    A mess

The worst experience. Everyone makes mistakes you can place an order and improperly get the right information that happens. Oh boy when you already know that the order you're handing the customer is not what they ordered and lying to them to their face. Now you really crossed the line in food service no thank you. Carne asada torta was chorizo egg soggy and not my thing. The employee even had me hand them the bag of food took inside to check the order when handing it back I said " carne asada torta right?" Looked right at me and said yes. Very disappointing.

Chorizo breakfast burrito, it was good. Don't know if they forgot to add cheese to mine but i would ask for it next time. Green salsa was flavorful, not spicy.

this place used to be good but the past 4-5 times ive gone here, it has been consistently VERY low quality. Multiple times I'ved tasted mold/rotten vegetables, they often get the order wrong, and they never replace or refund their mistakes. Pictured is the hard chicken taco (after a 5 minute drive home), the "giant" burrito, and the salsa (that is usually red, but obviously is very old). Super disappointing because it didn't used to be like this, but they have made it clear that it's not just an off day, they just always serve food like this now.

Delicious spot! Friendly staff, delicious tacos, quick service, and a drive through that is open late! This place is right downtown near my workplace and I can't believe I hadn't tried it before. The carnitas tacos plate was delicious - well seasoned meat, juicy, great flavor. I love their red and green salsas!! Refried beans a good too. I'll gladly explore more of the menu....I love a no frills mexican spot with good food, quick service, and affordable prices.

Bacon bits in my veg burrito

This breakfast burrito was very yummy but I was distraught. I am a Jew who doesn't eat pork and I found myself picking bacon bits out of the eggs, which makes it not vegetarian anymore nor is it kosher or halal friendly. I'm just a mixed race Mexican who was craving comfort food and had a concerning pork surprise :( I'm just warning my fellow non pork eaters to beware.

pretty good! very quick service. wonderful interior, very cute, very nice. i got the beef burrito and enchilada combo with extra beans and rice and it ran me about $15. i had the enchilada first and got full. 15$ for two meals is a pretty good deal to me. the employees were very nice and attentive. beans and rice were good but a bit bland but were great with the hot sauce. the enchilada was good! all in all i really enjoyed my stop here and i will be back!

Added 4.13 tip to my ticket I never even saw an option for tip and they just added it to my tab. I asked them and they looked at me like I was crazy

Carne Asada Breakfast Burrito with guac Adobada Taco

My partner and I love the food here! The staff is also super friendly and kind to us. Food always comes out super quick. The carne asada break burrito with guac added is our go to order. I will miss coming here now that I am leaving Eugene!

My sons and I were out and about and decided to have lunch. We had a hankering for Mexican food and after some looking we tried this place since we wanted to try someplace new. We ordered the chicken wet burrito and torta to split. The burrito was a good size and the sauce was tasted very good which completed all the internal components. The torta was also very good, the meat was seasoned well and the bread was very light and airy. The service here was great and they were friendly.

Some of the other reviews were negative on their food...but our food was fantastic. The burgers were moist and not greasy. The waffle cut fries were hot and crispy. The bartenders work non stop to get your drinks and food out quickly. My daughter loved the churro style donuts (but they are messy). The decor is a D&D dive bar scene....so many things to look at as you wait for bingo to start. They just changed the rules and you do have to pay $1.00 per person to play bingo...but where else can you get that type of entertainment for a dollar. We can't wait to return.

At one point, the bartender disappeared for approximately fifteen minutes, leaving several patrons waiting without acknowledgment. When she finally returned, she casually mentioned she had been on a personal phone call. A second woman then stepped behind the bar, immediately clarifying that she was not, in fact, a bartender. When I expressed concern about the extended absence and lack of service--something I would consider standard feedback in any hospitality setting--I was abruptly told I was "speaking badly" about the staff and was asked to leave. This kind of defensiveness and disregard for patrons is deeply unprofessional, especially for an establishment that positions itself within a community where communication, accountability, and mutual respect are paramount. Eugene has a growing nightlife and alternative culture scene, and many people--locals and visitors alike--expect spaces that uphold those values. Based on my experiences, I cannot recommend The Serpent & the Sparrow. There are other venues in town that offer a far more welcoming environment, competent service, and a genuine respect for their patrons.

There are restaurants that seduce you with promise, and others that test your patience before…read morerevealing their intent. Lion & Owl, on this particular morning, proved to be both--a place of evident talent, yet uneven discipline, where flashes of brilliance are offset by lapses that no serious kitchen should permit. Let us begin with the triumph. The buckwheat pancakes arrive not merely as breakfast, but as a composition. A stack of admirable loft and structure--evidence of a properly developed batter, handled with restraint and precision. The crumb is airy yet resilient, each bite yielding gently before dissolving into a delicate nuttiness inherent to buckwheat. A caramelized banana sauce pools generously, glossy and fragrant, its sweetness tempered by the cultured tang of crème fraîche. Toasted coconut chips scatter across the top like crisp punctuation, lending both aroma and texture. This is cooking that understands balance--sweetness checked by acidity, softness lifted by crunch, comfort elevated by technique. It is, quite simply, a five out of five dish. The kitchen, here, remembers what it means to nourish and delight. And then--alas--we encounter its counterpoint. The mushroom brioche toast, in conception, should be a study in harmony: buttery bread, earthy fungi, silken eggs, fresh greens. Yet the execution falters at its very foundation. The brioche--so essential, so central--is pushed past the threshold of caramelization into bitterness. In a bread so rich with butter and sugar, precision is everything; overcook it, and the entire structure collapses under a shadow of char. The garnish, too, feels careless--large stems of greenery draped without intention, rather than composed with purpose. It is a dish that looks promising from a distance but betrays its flaws upon inspection. A two out of five--a failure not of imagination, but of discipline. The brie and truffle macaron arrives as an afterthought--set aside, unannounced, uncentered, as though it were a spare utensil rather than a composed pastry. Presentation matters. It signals care. Here, there is none. And the macaron itself? A confection that should whisper with delicacy instead resists with age. The shell is hardened, the interior overly chewy--signs of time having passed unkindly. The flavor is confused: a sweet, almost vanilla shell encasing a mild, savory filling of whipped brie and timid truffle. Neither side asserts itself; neither yields to the other. It is neither dessert nor savory course, but a muddled compromise. A two out of five, and left unfinished--a silent verdict more damning than words. The mimosa, I am told, is bright and pleasing, though presented without flourish--a small omission, but telling in a restaurant aspiring to polish. A four out of five, competent yet unadorned. The pour-over coffee reveals a lighter roast profile: bright acidity at the fore, a nutty mid-palate, a gently lingering finish. It is, as you observed, "hipster coffee"--intentionally expressive, though perhaps too acidic for a more classical palate. On flavor alone, a three out of five. Yet the experience is marred by a most unforgivable intrusion: a hair in the initial cup. Such a thing should never reach a guest. Ever. And beyond the plate--there is service. Dishes arriving out of sequence. Eggs meant for one guest appearing with another's delayed entrée. A table divided, one diner finished while the other waits. Explanations that do not align with reality. Items placed without acknowledgment or intention. These are not minor stumbles; they are fractures in the very architecture of hospitality. The Verdict Lion & Owl is a restaurant caught between what it is capable of and what it consistently delivers. There is real talent in this kitchen--evident in the pancakes, in the conceptual ambition of the menu, in flashes of thoughtful composition. But talent without rigor is unreliable. And hospitality without coordination is hollow. For every moment of genuine pleasure, there is another of carelessness--overcooked bread, stale pastry, inattentive plating, lapses in cleanliness, and disjointed service. In the end, one must judge the whole, not the highlights. Overall score: 2 out of 5. A restaurant with promise--undeniably--but one that must remember that excellence is not achieved in moments. It is achieved in consistency, in care, and in respect for the guest at every stage of the meal. Until then, Lion & Owl remains... a place that almost is.

Busy but they had a table for us. Very nice decor, rotating menu. We had the buckwheat pancakes with caramelized bananas, dates, and pineapple syrup which was sweet but not overly so since the pancakes underneath were not touched by the syrup ended up being a really nice balance. Bacon was like a cross between pork belly and bacon (very thick) but really tasty. Breakfast Sando was good with in-house ground pork and a nice aioli. We also tried the savory macarons (Brie and truffle) which are delicious. Creamy and a tad sweet. Not too much truffle. Coffee was a bright tangy pour over-not my favorite type but some people really like that style. Oh, and we had a blood orange mimosa which was really good Overall an excellent experience! Definitely going to again when we are in town!

We were happy to see that while they were fairly busy, they were quick to put together a table to accommodate us right away. Located within a small strip type mall in South Eugene, parking is relatively easy. This local family business is open 7 days a week from 7am to 2pm. They offer their full menu which includes both breakfast and lunch items all day. In addition to American breakfast classics they offer Mexican-inspired dishes such as Huevos Rancheros and Chilaquiles. Our server came by and welcomed us and took our drink orders. In addition to the natural offerings of coffee and assorted juices they offer specialty coffees ranging from a standard iced coffee to white mochas, cappuccinos, dirty chai tea latte's and Mexican mochas. As we began to peruse the menu we immediately noticed their prices are extremely reasonable, which is always appreciated. Everything on the menu sounded really yummy and we each made our selections. Our table ordered items including the Linguica Scramble, Pancakes, and Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches. The restaurant had a good steady stream of customers but they appeared to be able to handle the amount of people and we didn't notice anyone wait more than a couple of minutes to be seated. We also observed a good amount of to-go/Door Dash traffic. Our orders arrived in a timely manner and looked delicious. We each enjoyed our meals and we understand why my brother-in-law made the suggestion. If you are visiting the U of O campus or are in Southwest Eugene, check out South Hills Cafe!

Finally a layover showed up almost a year later and I had my itinerary planned out which included Morning Glory. I didn't review this spot last time but I should have. This visit was disappointing because it has fallen in standard. Others may disagree with me but traveling, dining out and food reviews come with the territory of my job. I walked in solo at 9am and I expected it to be busy so let us accept that. However, I saw 2-3 empty tables including two spots at window by the counter so I was wondering why it was taking so long to be seated. By the time I was seated it was 9:25ish. The young lady with the tattoos and pink hat was kind enough to attend to me and take my order. The food (pesto omelette) arrived at 9:55am so almost 30 minutes later. Like come on guys, really? On top of it I had to keep looking at my watch because I had to get ready for work. On two occasions I almost decided to pay and walk out before the food arrived and you have to drive my last nerve for that to happen. The egg itself tasted decent albeit the size soysage patties were a little dry. The orange juice was awesome so no faults there. I'm just annoyed because I had to wolf everything down in minutes to get back to the hotel rather than enjoy it because it took so long for the food to come out. My gripe is that service took forever and I was watching the servers multi task and be stretched thin. I won't fault their effort because they were doing their best. Oh and not once did some ask "do you need anything?" or "how is the food?"; I worked in the service industry for 12 years so I can easily see a lack of it. The other issue is that you have to eat then pay and there's only one register so the lines just seemed never ending between people trying to get a table to people placing takeout orders to people wanting to pay. Pesto omelette, side of soysage patties, orange juice and latte came to $40 with the tip so it's not exactly what I call cheap and when I am forking out upwards of $30 I expect some level of service. Would I return? I'm in two minds about it because I will probably look for another spot for my next layover.

I will also say, I worked in restaurants for almost 8 years and I am VERY understanding of costs and the possibilities of off days. But this place is honestly ridiculous. First of all, I did a to-go order, so my review is completely about that experience, the food, and the cost. I do not have a review of the service. $18 dollars for a breakfast burrito sounded crazy, but since it was my bad not checking the prices, I went through with it. The food was not at all worth $18. It was bland and soggy, not moist or juicy from the sausage, just soggy. The flavor of the sausage was good but other than that the burrito was completely bland. The home fries on the side were pretty tasty but I didn't even want them and would've preferred them inside the burrito or not included at all for a lower price. My main reason for leaving 1 star and not maybe 2 or even 3 is that they charge a 10% gratuity on to-go orders which, to me, is unacceptable. I generally tip about that much on my own for to-go (20-35% if I eat in for people who think I'm awful lol), but given the food is ridiculously overpriced I was unsure if I would this time. Them making that decision for me without any heads up ensures I will never come back here again. A small note on ambience; the place is stinky. As I said, I didn't sit down so take this with a grain of salt, but when I walked in I was blasted with a musty and kind of dirty smell that would've had me not wanting to stay for a meal. I honestly feel bad writing this review but this place does not deserve the communities continued business unless they SERIOUSLY up their game. I don't believe I will ever be back but hopefully they improve and actually live up to the 4.1 rating that they have.
