Well, I am biased when it comes to Dos Hombres I worked there many moons ago. I've always enjoyed the style of Mexican food they serve. My Favorite egg roll Chile Riano's smothered in green chili. I have eaten at thousands of Mexican restaurants, they are one of my favorite cuisines and let me tell you no two are the same that's what makes them unique everyone has their own style. The margaritas are great. The frozen ones remind me of an adult Slurpee but I prefer grande on the rocks no salt please. That way I don't get a brain freeze when I drink it too fast. Ha ha. The service was good. Food came out fast. I enjoyed everything I ordered. The only bad thing was my son ordered a hamburger. The bacon came out medium rare and the hamburger was well done. I told him maybe it's just me but I don't think I would order a hamburger from a Mexican restaurant and he loves Mexican, food, don't figure. I was with friends and family. We all had a great time we stayed past closing and never once did we feel like anyone was trying to push us out. Not so impressed today, I eat at Dos a lot but after today's service I may look else where in the future. Today I went with my family and we all ordered our food. After we ordered I asked for some hotter salsa. We received the salsa about 15 minutes later with our lunch. Once the food was dispensed my burrito was missing. I was told my food would be right out and the waitress went back inside. After about 15 minutes and my family finishing their food the waitress comes back out with my burrito. I was told that my food some how was not on the ticket. During this wait our drinks were empty and like I said the waitress ditched us for periods of time which was unescussable. I then received my bill and paid. I then noticed I was charged 9.99 for the dos hombres burrito when the lunch menu clearly states it is 8.29 during lunch time 11 to 3:30. I then questioned the waitress and she said she was unsure why I was over charged. I usually give Dos a great review but after today service I am a bit pissed and feel that at a minimum the waitress could have offered a discount for the horrible service and over charging. My parents have been eating here for decades and always enjoy the food and the excellent personalized service. The restaurant moved from a spot in a nearby strip mall and is now housed in a lovely standalone building custom built for it. The Coronado Tostada is my mother's consistent successful order. My father enjoyed a dish that was off the menu developed especially for him after some health issues. The long time chef, Annie, has retired and is missed. But the new cook team seems to have found their footing and is turning out good food. Whenever I visit we have at least one meal here, sometimes more. We are always greeted with enthusiasm and served with care. Sharon is super, providing efficient service with personalized conversation and showing a real interest in us and others she serves. I typically order the Southwest Chicken Fried Steak with Chimayo Red Chile Sauce. This is a good sized pounded steak that has been breaded and fried. You can pick the gravy or topping you want. I prefer the Chimayo Chile sauce, a northern New Mexico style red sauce. The meal comes with a salad and the choice of one side. I request the salsa, from the chips and salsa, to use as the dressing on the salad. It adds a nice zing compared to normal dressings. And for the side, I have a hard time choosing between the posole, a pile of corn hominy cooked with some chile and tomatoes and spices, and the sweet Mexican Corn Casserole, a moist cornbread with some corn kernels and sweetness and spices that make it uniquely wonderful. It is a great counterpoint to the red chile sauce and is almost a dessert. You can't go wrong either way. read more

I want to really like this place. I live pretty close to it. It does good things for the community...like "Give Back Wednesday's". They donate some of Wednesday's profits to deserving groups. I love that. Additionally, on Mondays, they have a coupon for buy one, get the second at 50% off. Good deal, and trust me you will see a gray-haired crowd there at Monday lunch. The place is nicely decorated and has areas suitable for big groups and some secluded tables conducive to romance. Huge plus - they serve local beers on tap as well as Mexican and domestic brews. Local wines are also available. I love this. As to the food, don't expect authentic Mexican food. I have had ok to good meals here ... The chicken fried steak with your choice of sauce, the salads, the chile relleno are all OK. But often the main dishes are not exciting. Yesterday, I had the New Mexico style stacked enchiladas. Note to self, when in Colorado, don't order food done in other state style. The enchilada looked like an NM Enchilada and the Chimayo red sauce was not bad. And (big kudos), they happily added a fried egg on top. I was warned that the plate was hot, and it was. Unfortunately, my food was not hot at all. So much so that the cheese between the tortillas was still visibly in its shredded form, and at refrigerator temperature. The beans on the plate were crusty and dry. So, edible but not pleasurable. My husband's chorizo burger was much better. Very flavorful and with extra green chile strips as requested. Fries were fine. The red onion, lettuce and tomato garnish was fresh and crispy (did not expect a great tomato in January, so it was better than expected). Service is generally sub-par in the bar. And it wasn't much better in the dining room on this visit. I feel like this restaurant has been around long enough that it is resting on its laurels and needs management to be more present and vigilant. We have been going to the Clifton location since it was in the Coronado Plaza location. We started going to the current location when it opened. After seeing several less than favorable reviews we were hesitant to dine here but were nicely surprised. Our server was friendly and had really good knowledge of all the dishes and answered all our questions, (also found out she's been there for a long time, which says a lot about a business). Additionally she shared they use local farmers for their peppers and produce they use- that's a plus in my book. We ordered New Mexico Combo and Carne Asada. The flavors were perfect. The pozole was delish as was the relleno. Very happy with how fresh the carne asada was with its pico and guacamole and sautéed onion. Make sure if you like spicy to order the fried jalapeño with the asada. It was a nice bonus. We expected the prices to be higher and for all we ate, the price was very reasonable.
