Dos Jefes Cigar Bar is one of the those rare places that feels like it has been there forever. This is a friendly Uptown cigar lounge and has an authentic Havana feel to it. Service is welcoming to all from first time visitors to seasoned cigar aficionados. The full bar is excellent and the cigar case selection is exceptional! Just don't open the case yourself as the large sign says or you will scolded, lol. Really you will. Dos Jefes's atmosphere is the real gem. Dark, lush and smokey surroundings make for a perfect setting to unwind and take in the Cuban-inspired bric-a-brac that surrounds the walls. When in New Orleans, this is one of the places I visit for live music and a nice cigar. The interior is smaller than most, but the vibe is HUGE! In this rather small space, a ton has been packed in! - a well stocked bar, a well stocked humidor, an area with a pool table, an interior seating area, space for performers, and an outside area with lots of seating, from which you can easily hear the music and collect drinks from the bar. On this night, the band was a jazz sextet, Afrodiziacs. The bar does not have a cover charge, nor drink minimum. Having said that, the bar is so well stocked, you will have multiple drinks. The bar was full, and when the music got rolling, people started dancing, some with strangers from a neighboring table. If you you are in the Tchoupitoulas Street area, this is a must! I love this bar. Not everyone knows my name here but they know my face. I usually meet a friend here once a week for a few drinks and cigars. I love how welcoming it is here. Discussion at the bar quickly turns into group discussions. It's a nice bar with great bartenders and pool tables. I've noticed that Thursday nights usually have live music. Jan 01, 2018, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! We stopped in to engage in the cigar bar. Great thing about this place & how we came to choose it, was because of its late closing time... 3am!!!!! So off we go!!!! Arriving was cool; not too many stares as we entered, stranger danger... Lol. I made my way to the cigar case for selection. When I decided, I elicited the assistance of John, the vest & pageboy clad bartender, for purchase. He clipped them and allowed us to use his lighter to get the party started. The price range on cigars was cool & affordable. Because this was New Years Eve/New Years Day, there were sandwich trays to celebrate... How cool!!!! Met a nice lady Tanya (ton-ya) & we shared NEW YEAR's Resolutions, of which I made NONE; we talked pooches & traded ER work stories. This was a great night cap; great cigar & convo. Lots of room to move about in the cigar bar & even an open back room with lounges & mini-sofas. Good that you can get a drink as well while puffing on the 'gar. Street parking is available & there are a few spaces on the side for angled parking. Would give .5 stars if I could. I am typing this outside of the establishment because I am so confused. My companion and I came here for some drinks. We had 1 drink each and had finished them. About ten minutes later, we are just chatting when what I assume was the owner (a ruddy older white man) came up to us and demanded that we buy another drink or leave. There were other patrons in there without drinks. We didnt cause a fuss and just left, but I found it extremely disrespectful to target us and demand/pressure us to buy more drinks at his speed or leave. Very rude and gross. read more

If you're into cigars, this place is for you. They offer a huge amount of cigars for sale and allow smoking indoors. They always have an amazing band playing in the front and drinks for a reasonable price. Lots of seating and a nice pool table in the back. The only bad thing about this place is that if you don't like smoking, it really smells like cigars and the ventilation isn't great so you'll definitely smell like smoke after leaving. read more

Looking to have a cigar in a bar in New Orleans? This is one of your only (and best) bets! Product: It's a bar. They serve drinks. The selection is good, but the prices can be a little steep. It's to be expected, though, as they have free live entertainment and don't sell any food that I recall. You can also buy cigars from their humidor to smoke here (or, just bring your own). (3 stars) Service: There's a full-service bar. I think it's usually just one bartender, but there may be 2 there for busy times, like a Friday or Saturday night. Service has been just fine for me when I went in. The wait for drinks I don't ever recall being long. (3 stars) Facilities: It's an older corner building way Uptown on Tchoup, almost to Audubon Park. Parking is on the street, but usually not an issue because most of the area is residential and there aren't that many storefronts around here competing for space. It has a rather old-fashioned pool hall feel about it (yes, there are pool tables inside). There's space right by the front door for a small ensemble to perform. The area is basically split up into 3 areas---the main front room with the bar and some tables, the back pool room, and the patio outside (entrance to such is through the front door, just past the bathrooms on the right). Divey? Maybe a little, but I like it. (4 stars) Bonus: There's free live music most nights of the week, mostly old-time "ragtime" jazz. Overall: A big bump up to 4 stars for the ability to have a cigar inside in New Orleans and the free live music. I'm also used to cigar bars in Manhattan that are full of wealthy, old business men and high end call girls all done-up, trashed-out and on the make, so that might add to the nausea that ensues. Rejoice, for Dos Jefes has a completely different environment and just the kind I like- smoky, dark, lively; very much evocative of a different time and place. They regularly have live music that only adds to the whole pre-Castro jazz club in Havana feel. This past Saturday night there was no cover (tip the musicians, please!) And there's a swell patio. I like Dos Jefes. For years I have heard how great this place was, but it was never really on my radar. A few months ago several of my friends met here after an elite event and I had a great time. The main room has several tables and a small stage area. There is a raised back room with an old couch and a pool table. The couch was cloth and well worn. Sitting on it was nice, but the cushions are so worn you sink very deeply which made getting up difficult. The pool table is also fairly close to the couch, so watch out for cues or you may end up needing an eye patch. The beer selection was very good. I was happy to find Nola Hopitoulas on draft, but it was expensive. Apparently they charge a music tax of $1 extra per drink whenever a band is playing. I am all for musicians getting paid, but it seems the beer was around $8 or so per pint. There was a wonderful cocktail waitress roaming the room, so I didn't have to fight for the bartenders attention. That was a huge plus and made the entire experience better. We lucked out that Sunpie was playing on the night we visited. It was even better that during their set break, we were able to hang outside and chat with the band. If you can live with the smoke and the high cost of drinks, Dos Jefes is worth a visit. read more

Dos Jefes was the first cigar bar I had ever been to and it wasn't what I expected, in a good way. What I'm learning about cigar bars is you have three kinds- the cigar shops that allow you to smoke in a small area that's secondary to their purpose, the high end cigar bar that is more of a jacket and dress up type place to sip wine and enjoy a puff, and the casual lounge style cigar bar where you can play darts or pool and it's a much more relaxed atmosphere. Dos Jefes is the latter - a low key lounge with a large bar area where you can listen to live music, a back area with a pool table, slot machines, and an outdoor area as well. I'm no cigar aficionado but i've always enjoyed relaxing at Dos Jefe's for years. I came back to New Orleans just shy of a year after Katrina and Dos Jefe's was one of the bars i frequented beginning in '07 if my memory serves me correctly. I was a real regular, Sean the owner was a very cool dude, he surely made you feel welcomed. I stopped in here the night before last for the first time in about two years and nothing has changed, and that's perfect. Same chill ambiance with live (good) music, a fine selection of cigars and pretty nice drink specials. I love bars with couch lounging and there are some quite comfortable arrangements in the pool table area that also has a little service bar, the place is quite accommodating and there's usually a bangin' food truck outside to cater to your hunger. Would have given another star but the bartender last night either thought i couldn't do math or i wasn't going to tip him because he certainly didn't give me correct change on an order my 8 year old nephew could handle. Went last night for my first visit to Dos Jefes. I've been on their email list for quite some time but never made the trip out to their location when we have come in to town. Shame on me! This is exactly my kind of place. Nice selection of whiskeys, live music that accompanied the experience, and cigar friendly! My friend and I enjoyed the Fuente Short Story cigar from the establishment humidor. Our wives joined us along with my mom and everyone enjoyed Piano Bob. Finished with a Montecristo White Label and a few more scotches. Made for an enjoyable evening and we're planning on going back again tonight. See you there! read more

It just seems that every place we go is a hostile owner or manager that doesn't want the business and is just ready to fight potential clients coming in. Gheeeeez! We live in the neighborhood and we came with our dogs with the full intention of taking our dogs to the back patio. What seems is who was the owner came out into the back patio while we were there with our well behaved dogs had a melt down when We were sitting outside and opened up the back door and wanted to scold us as our small dog was barking at him (because she was scared of him) then proceeded to tell us how a our dogs were misbehaved and that he would no longer allow dogs. Our dogs are super chill scaredy "cat" dogs. And all he could say is we won't allow dogs anymore. It escalated into a very angry pissed off owner that SHOULD retire cuz he is one miserable SOB with our dogs doing nothing. New owner PLEASE! old white haired man is BAD NEWS!!! The owner HATES YOUR PETS! never coming back under this ownership! I wrote this before I even knew he kicked one of our dogs after a lengthy conversation with my boyfriend. This place was so NOT what I was expecting when I got there. I was thinking a smoky, dark, intimate blues club based on the website. Smoky, yes. SO smoky. Dark and intimate, no. It's kind of bright and definitely not intimate, but the drinks are cheap and strong and the music is good. I'm definitely coming back here for happy hour. We missed out on this deal last time, but $3 Sangria? Yes! I was willing to pay the regular $6 on a Saturday night, because it's good Sangria, but seeing the Happy Hour sign on the wall made me cringe every time I handed over another $6 + tip... knowing if I had been there a few hours earlier it would have been half the price. The bartenders were friendly. I love the atmosphere. I mean, I could do without the smokiness, but it's a Cigar Bar, so I'm certainly not holding that against them. Count me as another non-smoker who thinks Dos Jefes is still cool. It has that inviting, old-New Orleans feel with lots of warm wood, old pictures and ads on the wall, and a wide array of cigars proudly on display. The bartender was cool, the owner came out chat (my friend knew him), and Tom McDermott was layin' it down on the keys in the corner. I hate smoking but I've got to admit I have puffed on a handful of cigars in my life so if you want a cigar I guess this is a bar to get them at. I still hate smoke so even though I've taken a few puffs on a cigar I still have no desire to be around them or any other smoke. They have a decent happy hour when there isn't music playing. When they have music here there sometimes is an up-charge of $1 per drink and I don't like such a policy. I'm all for supporting live local music but I greatly prefer a cover charge and would much rather pay $5 at the door or have a tip jar for the music and know what I'm getting into rather than a surprise up-charge at the end of the night. Dos Jefes has exactly what I look for in a cigar bar. Great liquor and smooth cigars. I'm not a smoker (anymore), but I can have a cigar every now and then and the smoke inside the place doesn't really bother me at all.
