Jan 01, 2018, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! We stopped in to engage in the cigar bar. Great thing about this place & how we came to choose it, was because of its late closing time... 3am!!!!! So off we go!!!! Arriving was cool; not too many stares as we entered, stranger danger... Lol. I made my way to the cigar case for selection. When I decided, I elicited the assistance of John, the vest & pageboy clad bartender, for purchase. He clipped them and allowed us to use his lighter to get the party started. The price range on cigars was cool & affordable. Because this was New Years Eve/New Years Day, there were sandwich trays to celebrate... How cool!!!! Met a nice lady Tanya (ton-ya) & we shared NEW YEAR's Resolutions, of which I made NONE; we talked pooches & traded ER work stories. This was a great night cap; great cigar & convo. Lots of room to move about in the cigar bar & even an open back room with lounges & mini-sofas. Good that you can get a drink as well while puffing on the 'gar. Street parking is available & there are a few spaces on the side for angled parking. I plan to return; I understand there's live music here on some days... hopefully they'll be sandwiches then as well.

Stellar music and vibe. Excellent service by Hannah and the rest of the servers. It's like a neighborhood bar that allows cigars with a great welcoming atmosphere. I can't wait to come again!

If you're in the mood for live music and a great selection of cigars this is the place to go. Totally chill vibe, dark, slightly grunge worthy. Looks a little sketchy from the outside, a total guy bar. Don't go if you're not willing to be in smoke though. Has a lot of character and believe it or not lots of friendly people! Full bar, fast service- they even have an outdoor area. If you're nearby and wanting a low key vibe and a drink, stop in.

Alcohol? Check Pool? Check Big TV? Check Foosball? Check Live Jazz? Everynight Very laid back place to come have a drink and have a smoke. Yes people smoke here so if you're anti second hand smoke it probably won't be a 5 star for you. Even so this place is a must to check out. Very chill place. Good place for visiting friends too. Just make sure they're not supporters of the smoke ban bill that just got struck down by the house..

Dos Jefes was the first cigar bar I had ever been to and it wasn't what I expected, in a good way. What I'm learning about cigar bars is you have three kinds- the cigar shops that allow you to smoke in a small area that's secondary to their purpose, the high end cigar bar that is more of a jacket and dress up type place to sip wine and enjoy a puff, and the casual lounge style cigar bar where you can play darts or pool and it's a much more relaxed atmosphere. Dos Jefes is the latter - a low key lounge with a large bar area where you can listen to live music, a back area with a pool table, slot machines, and an outdoor area as well. You can make an evening out of this bar or just stay until you finish your cigar. This is a great place to hang out and enjoy your cigar comfortably and have a little fun while you do so!

Great music...makes the smokiness worth it for the non-smokers!

On a previous trip we had seen an evening show at Snug Harbor and wanted to experience something else. We had read good things about the Spotted Cat and their sets run all afternoon. We were a little confused about price because one of our guidebooks said there is no cover but you're supposed to order drinks. There was a doorman who charged us something like $5 each (still cheap!) and we ordered beer and a N/A drink at the bar and listened to a great jazz group playing old-time jazz. Interior is tiny and you're pretty close to the performers. We were standing at first but eventually found some seats as people left. There is even a back courtyard if you want to be outside, although I don't know if you can hear the music or not. We bought a CD from the band and enjoyed it when we got back home. All in all, a great New Orleans experience.

Overall had a nice time enjoying the music!

So glad we had an opportunity to reserve tickets (highly recommend you do) for this intimate musical experience. It highlights the incredible talent, creativity, passion and FUN these artists have for jazz and their instruments. Feeding off each other's energy and really had you moving in your seat. Front seats are WORTH the money!! Each artist got to highlight a song of their choosing and each one ATE! They left no crumbs. I must have been a smiling fool in the 2nd row seats, but music, personally, is the best way to get through me. Years in music myself, I understand the dedication and commitment it takes. You FEEL that here when they are on stage performing. Jazz and its spontaneity and history is the cornerstone to Preservation Hall. I LOVE that there is no recording/picture taking allowed (unless the artists strictly tell you otherwise). It helps keep their art intact but helps immerse yourselves with them into their craft. Living in the moment. The last song they kindly let us record/take pictures and I will treasure them until I can come back. Side note: that trumpeter (I believe his name was Will?) has a VOICE as smooth as velvet and I was mesmerized. Video shows a brief moment of the night.

If anyone is military, they do not offer a discount, but they aren't the only ones to do so and its ok. Glasses of wine are $16 a pop. Kinda pricey if you ask me but I believe that is standard when its a restaurant in a hotel. People were really nice, friendly, and helpful. I asked for other locations as farvas wine tasting and music and they helped out with that. The only reason I gave 4 starts versus 5 was the confusion if I could taste the wine before I commit and no military discount. I'm aging out of late night shows, so I took a pass on seeing Kings of Leon, Raye, Stephen Marley, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Blind Boys of Alabama, and Cowboy Mouth. Instead, I headed toward Frenchmen Street, and the Three Muses. The musicians from Bad Penny Pleasuremakers were setting up as I arrived around 6 p.m. By the time my drinks arrived the band was in full swing mode. Mills at the bar took my order - beef bulgogi ($16), a bottle of PBR ($5), and a Maker's Mark neat ($10) did the job. I paid at the bar and took the number letting the server know where to deliver the meal. The band kicked in, and I was transported to heaven. This is a small, open space where the band can dominate without being intrusive. I took my time with my meal, soaking up the generous vibe the band was sharing with the 20 or 30 of us in the hall. I should note a local resource that might get unsung: 99.7 wwoz tracks the music of New Orleans year round, and does a great job alerting us to venues and performances at places like Three Muses.
