This place is a mixed bag. On the plus side, the layout is great, with a main room with live music and an outdoor patio, and the quality of the music is excellent. The night I was there Delfeayo Marsalis was playing with his quartet, and with no cover charge you can't beat that. On the down side, they need some truth in advertising on showtimes. I was there on a Friday night ... in local papers and on numerous places inside the bar (a chalkboard, a flier in the bathroom), the starting time was listed as 9:30. In fact the music started as 10:45. A half hour or so later I can see but that's not even in the ballpark. Then you have a the whole smelly cigar thing. Drinks are expensive ($5 for a bottle of corona) but I guess that's to be expected. The night I was there it was pretty packed but only about 20% of the people were listening to the music. Went last night for a friend's birthday. Yes, the drinks take 10 minutes and cost 10 bucks. Yes, its really smokey. Yes, the bartender sucks. But what really sucked is when two drunk assholes started a fight while the bartender ignored the problem. I know it sounds like a story, but the 10 of us were just hanging in the 2nd room playing pool when some random dude that we had never met before started harassing the girls. We all asked him to leave several time, and the bartender really needed to step in. He didn't and a friend got sucker punched. I will not be going back, and if you don't like being punched or groped, I wouldn't recommend it. The prices are absurd too. Especially for a dive bar. Really absurd. Cigar prices were crazy too. $18 for a Hemingway Short Story!?! Go to St. Joe's or any of a dozen other bards. You'll be happier. read more

Cute little spot for live music. Beware it is a cigar bar so make sure you're ok with a smokey room. There is always a very nice patio area which is secluded from the road where you can escape the smoke. Went there with friends and had a really good time on the patio. There are swing seats as well which was a nice touch, as well as the ring bar game out there. Overall it was great because there was live music inside and a large patio outside. Last cigar bar you can smoke inside of in all of Orleans Parish! If you're looking for a old fashion cigar bar where you can still smoke, then Dos Jefes is for you. They do have cigars for purchase, though it is a very limited selection. A few Rocky Patels, Aroma de Cuba, La Gloria Cubana, and some altidas brands. They do allow you to bring outside cigars as well as cigarettes too. If it is not to hot or cold outside, I suggest you to check out the fenced in patio. This dimly lit dive has live music on many nights. There is no cover charge for nights that music is played, they do however upcharge $1 for all drinks for the duration of the show. WONDERFUL Just what we wanted. Cigar bar with a drink selection! The hour stink. It wont open till 7 most day and the specials are from 5-7 go figure. However they have wonderful prices wonderful products and live music. At night a mobile unit serves out side starting at 10 and the chef assures me that he has the brisket to beat. This is by far my top choice of places to hang when I want to smoke a cigar and listen to some live music. Not many places in the city to do that with the smoking ordinance so this place is clutch for me. On most nights you can even get you some tacos from the food truck thats out front. Dos Jefes is like if your buddy Bob had a basement that you could hang out in. It's dark, almost dank, there are old couches, a pool table, a bar, and you can smoke cigars there. Great spot uptown on Tchoup! If you are a fan of cigars you must come here. The vibe in this place is awesome. Dimly let and very comfortable. They have great specials for happy hour, seven days a week. The servers are very nice and it does not get too over packed. The taco truck also stops by here on Friday and Saturday nights. Selection of cigars is horrible. It is hard to believe that they even call themselves a cigar bar. There is no walk in humidor. Prices are way off. This place is divey for sure. I don't necessarily mind that but I still think they could up date the furniture. You should always avoid cloth furniture in places that are smoke filled. Leather makes so much more sense. The lounge area in the back with the sofas that look like they were left on the curb somewhere...ugh ! The bartender was quite dismissive for whatever reason. The drinks were not good at all. It was the first experience we had at both Dos Jefes and with our new Drink Deck (awesome!). First, the card from the deck was accepted without question, entitling us to $10 off a purchase of $30 or more. While in New Orleans, my husband and I wanted a good cigar, a good drink, and live music. Dos Jefes fit the bill! What a tremendous find in a city swamped by tourists. Out of the tourist fray, it is a local neighborhood bar with all that typically involves: friendly people who wouldn't let you stay a stranger for long if you were open to meeting people, great bartenders, the nicest bouncer on the planet - though I'd guess he can get serious if need be. The decor is probably best termed comfortable and kitschy; a screened patio, the main bar room, and on an upper level, lots of comfortable seating. All of the men in our group found cigars to enjoy - and the afficionado in the group had no complaints about the selection. And the double door stands wide open as does the door to the patio and something out back, too, I'd guess - so the cigar smoke does not build up in the air. As a non-smoker, it never bothered me to have cigars going all around me. There was plenty of fresh air moving through the place. The bar selection was great. If you could name it, they could pour it. But the best was the music. Live music - NO cover charge. WOW! Great, great jazz performed by fun, friendly musicians. The night we were there it was Tom Hook & Swing Cats Ball. Absolutely fantastic musicians. If you get a chance to hear them play - go for it. (Google them for their schedule.) You won't be disappointed. And be sure you stick around for one of the songs that Wendell (?) whistles. Incredible! It was the best jazz we heard all week - and we ventured out in search of great jazz every night. Forget the FQ and Frenchmens - at least for a night or two - and head to Dos Jefes. It is a cab ride out to the bar, which is in an Uptown neighborhood. But you don't have to pay a cover charge to get in so it is well worth the fare. dos jefes could have a lot of potential if they redesigned the interior. i feel like it needs to update itself from cheap hotel lounge to hip library and/or man-cave. the bathrooms also need to be overhauled. the patio area is nice but not as spectacular as it could be. doubtful that i'll be back as there are better bars around town with more ambiance and character. read more

Since this spot is so far Uptown, I hardly ever go. Went twice last week and one night was average and the other night was awesome. I like the bar itself; comfortable, good place to be with friends at, especially when a cool jazz act is playing. Things don't happen until late, so never go early for a show, unless you plan on being wasted by the time the show starts. Free admission every night with bands playing every night.(except Monday) wonderful cigar selection and copious drink selection with friendly bartenders that can make anything. Made a visit here on Wednesday night, when Bob Andrews was playing the piano. Andrews is a very good, very versatile piano player. True to the name, there is a fair sized humidor from which to select cigars. So expect some smoke here. There is an outdoor area in case the fumes are an issue. There is also a very good selection of bourbon and scottish whiskeys, which pair very well with a good cigar. In the back, is a section for playing pool. But if you are here, it's for music in a laid back atmosphere. Getting a taxi there easy enough but the same can't be said for the inverse. Its pretty far up the Tchoup, at least eight blocks beyond Dick and Jenny's and Tipitinas. Just call a cab company about fifteen minutes before you are ready to go. Next time in town, I'll make a point of coming here on a weekend as well. read more

Alright, I'm not a 40 year old man that only enjoys whiskey and cigars. But, this is the place where you can get good aged whiskey, scotch, or brandy.
