Dos Osos has made an impressive transformation from its Eagle Crest days into a very enjoyable and well-maintained course. I played there yesterday with two friends, and having played it before, I can now confidently say it's a course you can enjoy from tee to green. The greens are smooth--comparable to many private clubs--and the clubhouse is welcoming and well-stocked with quality merchandise. The new carts with yardage displays are practical and among the best I've used. Kudos to Head Pro Mike Skala and his staff for their great work. As an avid golfer, I highly recommend this course for its value and overall experience. Glad JC Golf took on the challenge and turned it around. read more

As I said in my previous comment, we live in the neighborhood and would really enjoy attending these events if changes were made regarding the food service. The improvement is absolutely noticeable, and the layout has always been fun but with better conditions it's become a great course. It's no Encinitas ranch but considering how it was a year ago, it's been improved a lot. Great job JC golf! read more

I am updating this review because the manager mike contacted me and made things right. Every business will have a problem, a great business manages well. Mike called me, listened and made me want to come back. We had a fun time. My daughter with Down Syndrome rode in the cart. It was a beautiful experience with the trees and sourounding mountains The freshly grilled cheese burger was much tastier than I expected. I bought a few new gloves. This is a course in the middle of improvements in both fairways and clubhouse. And its a public course and not private, so one has to come with realistic expectations. But the layout is great. I played here about 10 times in the last 2 years when it was called Eagle Crest. A year later with new ownership and some renovations, I was optimistic. Your scores will be erratic. The grass in the fairways look better but the greens are high and bumpy. The fairways are still narrow especially with the overhanging trees. It is easy for your drive to roll off the fairway into a water hazard, trees, high unmaintained rough or out of bounds. Bring lots of balls. Even good players will lose a ball or two here. If they can open up the fairways a little bit more and get the greens to roll smoother, it would be a more enjoyable course to play. read more

Was very excited to play this course since JC took over and remodeled/upgraded from Eagle Crest. Sadly, not much has changed. Price was pretty high for this course and conditions. Still lots of work to be done. Better deals and courses out there folks. I guess I'll wait another year or two to see if this improves. Very disappointing. read more

I played on Friday 4-11-25 and the course was in good shape. For the most part all of the fairways have filled in with only a few ground under repair spots on the entire course. Will definitely go back again soon before the summer heat starts to settle in the valley. The only downside is that the driving range is gone so you have to warm up hitting into a net. Not the worst but not the same as the range when wanting to work on some swing tweaks. read more

Just finished my round at Dos Osos. Had a fabulous time. The clubhouse people were welcoming. The place had a very good vibe. The golf course was in decent shape and I'm sure under the new management will only continue to get better. The pace of place was great and we got a very good deal through golfnow to play. Reviews had me nervous but I played this course on 5/23/25 and was really impressed with how it looked. It is still a work in progress but is absolutely playable. Price is fair. Greens were good and the overall layout of the course is great. Only downside is there is no driving range. There are two nets available but it is first come first serve. read more

We had not played here for a few years since it had fallen into disarray. Conditions were terrible. With the new owners and renovation, I give them 5 stars for their progress and improvements. Although there is still work to be done, the staff is friendly and making an obvious effort to bring the course back. Worst fairways and conditions of a golf course I've played. After a "2 million dollar" repair it's absolutely terrible. Holes aren't cut, hitting off dirt or weeds every swing, tee boxes are either filled with divots or grass is up to ankles it's just sad. Wouldn't play it for a free round. Staff is nice. read more

I am a bit leery to play this course. When it was Eagle Crest it was a bargain, under $30 (?), now $60 mid-week. I must admit the cost of golf nowadays has me playing less and wondering if I need to redirect my time and money elsewhere. $80 gets you 4.5 hour walk around a goat track. Even the military courses are overpriced and falling into disrepair. Something to ponder.... read more

This was once a beautiful golf course... I haven't played Eagle Crest in several years but it used to be one of my favorites... Green fees were always lower here. I guess after decades of being a lower priced course the deferred maintenance has finally caught up. To be honest the entire gated community looks like its starting to get run down... What a shame. As the other reviews say - its in bad shape EXCEPT for the greens which were still pretty nice. Most of the bunkers had either 'ground under repair' signs or they were full of weeds or they were just dirt with no sand. I know its expensive to maintain a golf course but the little things that probably wouldnt cost too much start to add up into big problems... One star overall but adding another for the greens. read more

Three of us met up with a friend who lives nearby to play a round here yesterday. We booked a deal through under par and, by the time it was all said and done, got 36 holes of golf in. I must be honest and day I was a bit nervous as to what the conditions of the course were. There were a lot of negative reviews here and many of them in my opinion are unjustified. It's one thing to complain about not having flush fairways in a tropical climate, but to complain about dry fairways and spots of dirt in the foothills of North SD county in the middle of summer is uncalled for. There's a "mud rule" for a reason, and once you were within 50 yards of the green the conditions were great. The photo above is what a typical fairway looks like and, as a municipal golfer who 's approach shots range from respectable to complete shanks, I have no complaints. Also, big shout out to the staff here who were absolutely awesome. 2 gallons of water, a couple Dr. Peppers, and 9 lost golf balls later, it was a great time. read more

This place is bad man. No other way to put it. Been on a "soft opening" for a year and it's trash still. Torn up greens. Terrible fairways. Imagine playing off of dirt for 18 holes. How does a course charge a full rack rate to golf on greens that are beyond reproach. I get they didn't come back as planned, but Eagle Crest was better. Thank you to jc golf for purchasing Dos Oso. The previous owners ran the course into the ground. We went out today to check out today and played during their "soft opening" to see how the course compares to what it looked like before the previous incompetent owners sold it. It is not finished yet, but in just a few months, JC has already made huge improvements. We actually saw the color green on the course for the first time in years (as in, actual grass!!!!!). The tee boxes have been leveled out, and there is actually grass there as well. We even saw a cart girl on the course today (never ever seen one at eagle crest in the past). It still has a ways to go, but it is in infinitely better shape than it was a few months ago! Now please do not jack up the rates JC! read more

This course plays much better now that it's under new ownership and they have put some money into improving the fairways and greens. Now, they just need to keep it watered and maintain it throughout the hot summer coming up. That will be the real test. Also, PLEASE bring back the driving range. What is a golf course without a driving range! I heard from a guy that mans the booth out front that a new restaurant and driving range will be coming sometime in 2026. Played this course about a year ago and the Improvement is quite noticeable. Last year this course was like playing in a cow pasture. Now the fairways are mowed and except for some bald areas the fairways are coming along nicely. The greens still have a ways to go but by the Feb. grand opening the course should be in pretty good shape. Nice to see the improvements JC golf is making. Also want to compliment the guys in the club house who were friendly and accommodating. read more

JCR has a ways to go returning this course to its splendor. This is a terrific, challenging track. It didn't get into bad shape over night so it's going to take time to recover. Be prepared for very wet conditions in places on holes 1-4. Mainly because of new sod. Greens will need time and maintenance. Bermuda grass grows in splotches some pretty large areas. I'll play here probably enough to see how the course evolves. read more

Jerry, the cashier is very nice. A multitasker. He has to be; he's the only one working. This slows down the process. We had a 2:30pm tee time and was delayed 20 minutes because Jerry had to get food for other golfers while 10-12 people waited in line to pay. Not Jerry's fault. He needs help. The course is located in a nice community in Escondido. Entrance to the club can be tricky though. So try and get there early. read more

Greens were in horrible shape, large patches of dirt and mud in the fairways, and the sides of many of the course are filled with huge amounts of dead brush and trees. Also, fill up the lakes, they're only 1/2 full in places. The staff was very friendly and helpful and I hope they're able to turn this place around. This place is run down. They had no range balls, horrible rental clubs with nothing lower than a 6 iron. Course overgrown with weeds. Pathways flooded out. You lose your balls on the fairway with how unkept it is. Never coming back read more

Many of the reviews are much more negative than should be. The course is still being improved but is in decent shape. Back nine is in pretty good condition while front needs a little more work. I have to go 2 stars, and it's a shame, but actually more than fair. First of all, it's a very fun layout and could be special. Unfortunately, the condition is atrocious, fairways are as bad as it gets, bunkers are even worse, and most are unplayable. Greens are ehhh puttable...I guess, but really, they're the bright spot on the course conditions. Tees are decent, not great. I think the lack of revenue is the culprit here, of course, $30 during the week is fantastic. However, most courses in the area with a layout and challenging yardage will be $60-$100 during a weekday morning. Friendly staff, range, large putting green. I go because it's cheap and I use it to practice. read more

Waste of time and money!!! DON'T PLAY THERE!!! Played yesterday and my foursome lost many...too many balls in the fairways due to long weeds, not grass, and gopher holes. Yes in the fairways!!! The course is in deplorable condition. We couldn't use the range, even though we a had a package that included range balls. The course is a joke at any price!!! Hands down the worst golf course I have ever played in its current state. It used to be so much better. Staff was friendly, however they didn't have me down for my tee time even though I called the clubhouse directly a week prior ( they got us out 10 minutes after what I had booked, so no biggie). I got a deal on underpar.com which worked out to $25 per person, and it wasn't even worth that. I honestly wouldnt play their for free because it isnt worth the 30 minute drive. They have let this course basically rot into the ground. I read poor reviews, but what I played was way worse than I could imagine. Gopher holes everywhere, fairways are mostly dirt ( and if there is some green there, it is basically weeds). If you miss the fairway, it's un-mowed weeds, sometimes 18-24 inches high. Sandtraps are concrete and/or overgrown with weeds. Water hazards have all but evaporated. Greens were decent if you didn't have to deal with burned marks where previous pin locations were. I walked off after the 12th hole because it was close enough to the parking lot. First time I have ever walked off a course. read more

Layout is fun, and you can see the amount of work they have and are putting into this course. The price is a joke. 70 dollars on the soft opening is ridiculous. They say it's $10 off and a no cart fee until the grand opening in Feb 2025. Even if the bumpy ripped up greens improve, or the patchy mud ridden fairways are cleaned up, this course is not worth $95 when it opens. Take your money somewhere else. read more

This has always been a decently kept middle of the road course with a pretty fun layout and a manageable rate. But, apparently the course is up for sale and the owner is no longer putting any of the money into it. At this point, it's completely unplayable and should not even be considered a golf course. Range mats are demolished and the balls are just a mish-mosh of lost balls from the course. Tee boxes are horrible, zero grass in the fairways, and rough is dirt or overgrown dead weeds. Traps are completely full of weeds and the greens are are either diseased or unmaintained with the ball hopping all over the place. Gopher holes everywhere and transient palm trees growing all over the course. Water hazards no longer have water in them. The absolute worst conditions of any course I have ever seen. Left after just a couple holes, a complete waste of money. Hoping this course gets sold soon to someone that is willing to put some $ into it and bring it back to life. read more

I'm very reluctant to give businesses 1 star reviews unless the experience is truly terrible, but the staff at Eagle Crest was their saving grace. They're very polite and kind but that's where the good ends. The course is truly unkept and quite awful, all of the recent reviews are 100% accurate. The tee boxes are in terrible shape, fairways are full of gopher holes, weeds, often times just straight dirt and the ponds are not even ponds. This course, in well kept conditions, has the potential to be great. It's a shame it's not being maintained. read more
