In my undergrad days in Seattle my go-to, when I wasn't particularly craving anything and I wanted a meal that could be stretched into 2 meals, was always teriyaki. Now, in Portland, my go-to is Thai- just given how convenient and how easily accessible it is on every street corner! Today, without much of a craving but a hungry belly, I decided to relive my undergrad days and try out Dosirak. For $6 I got a huge box of chicken teriyaki, brown rice (no additional charge!), salad, and 2 mandoos. For $6 I wasn't expecting as generous of a portion (definitely 2 meals!) and such good quality meat. Good stuff. The teriyaki is not too sweet, the mandoo are light and crispy on the outside and delicious inside, the salad dressing is OK (a bit too sweet for me) but the lettuce is crisp, and the availability of brown rice completes the lunch box they serve. The owners are genuinely nice people, and the serving is huge. I usually eat half and refrigerate the other half for the next day's lunch. Holy, where have you been all my life? I generally consider college fair, and college students in general to lack taste. While, I admit, price is very important as an undergrad, most of my experience is rows of self-serve, shovel fulls, of tasteless restaurants, radiating out from most college campuses. Not so here. I grabbed a bento, expecting the worst, but was pleasantly surprised to have one of the top 5 bento experiences I have had. The salad is above average, the chicken was well done, a bit of the important char and still moist on the inside. The sauce, excellent. I would compare this favorably with Kokiyo in n, better than Tokyo grill in sw, and better than Bentoz. ( I do my bento research) read more

This is just plane and simple chicken teriyaki. The portions are huge. I'd say the $5 rice bowl and chicken is about 1.5 meals. You can get brown rice at no extra charge. The meat is grilled. The price is unbeatable for the satiation of college students across the way. They only take cash. The one draw back is it was served in a non-recyclable, non-reheatable plastic container. What can I say here that hasn't been said already? For 7 dollars you get a ton of chicken, rice, salad, and two yummy dumplings (I can personally never finish a meal!). Great value for starters, but it's also always delicious! The chicken is yummy and is never dried out or nasty. I'm always a sucker for dumplings so I will love them no matter what. Rice is hard to mess up but it is great like everything else. This is a minor note too but I love their cart's design. It's really bright and cheerful and it matches the owners! Ok this place is lowkey the best food cart by PSU. My office is three blocks away and this spot has become my official "treat yo self" lunch. I tried it about a month ago and have been back every Friday since. I get the teriyaki plate and it is MASSIVE. I usually eat the salad and a few pieces of chicken for lunch then save the rest for dinner. I eat the plate over the course of two meals and I am seriously full all day. The servings here are no joke. I see some reviews saying it's only $6 or $7, but the price has gone up. It's now $8 for the massive plate, but still totally worth it. read more

i'm a fan of simple food cart menus - why clutter your menu with 89673 items, when you can have 1 perfect lunch item? i love the dosirak lunchbox so much, it's hard for me to venture out to other carts sometimes. i wasn't much of a teriyaki fan before this little yellow cart of friendly lunchtime simplicity moved onto my office's block. like others have said, they win you over with the free sample. the chicken is SO GOOD. the sauce is not too sweet or salty. and they provide rooster sauce with added vinegar, which the dosirak lady recommended to me, and of course, it was awesome on the chicken and rice. the happy korean couple running the cart know my special order (white rice, no mandoo), so i kind of feel like norm walking into cheers when i visit this cart. read more

It was a little chilly the other day. That perfect weather where you are craving something warm and delicious that'll stick to your ribs. So looking for some comfort food, I strolled down to the PSU food cart row in search of something to quench these pangs of hunger sweeping over my body. The varied smells of tikka masala, thai noodles, carne asada burritos, philly cheese steaks and even waffles increased the pangs of hunger and proved to be way too enticing to allow for decision making. I couldn't decide and stood there like a displaced and hungry refugee walking into a Costco for the first time. I was at a sudden loss (and I'm never at a loss when it comes to food. I usually know about 3 hours before exactly what I want to eat). It was the sound of "Free Sample" that did it for me though. The free sample came from the lunch cart Dosirak (according to the chef, Dosirak is Korean for bento). Almost a meal in itself, the sample consisted of 4 strips of perfectly charbroiled chicken swimming in a teriyaki sauce. The husband and wife duo beamed with pride as they watched my face light up in recognition that this sauce is a thing unto heaven. All at once it is sweet and tangy, rich and flavorful. It's a sauce that brightens your mouth as you realize this is the best teriyaki sauce I have ever had. I told them I would take it, whatever this chicken was, and the wife laughing clapped her hands saying, "The sample wins again!" The husband starts laughing as well and begins to get everything together. We make small talk as I watch him take some chicken from the grill, chop it up into a heaping mound and place it on top a pile of steamed rice. To my surprise, he then takes another HUGE piece of chicken, chops it and throws it on top of the already humongous pile of chicken. He then smothers it in that delicious sauce and as he does so, he looks over his shoulder at me and says with a wink in his eye, "You want a little extra sauce?" "Hell Yeah!!" I blurt out and he starts laughing again. He hands me "The Lunchbox" as he calls it and I swear this box of deliciousness weighs 10lbs. As I walk away he knowingly says with a smile, "I'll see you next week." Yes he knows. After diving into the amazing amount of perfectly grilled chicken, perfectly steamed rice, two crisp and delicious mandoos (potstickers), and a green salad, he knows that he will be seeing me each week for a long time to come. read more

As a first year student at PSU, I had no idea of any good eats around here, but everyone says "Go to the food carts" for their extreme, gourmet value. After many trials of various other food carts, I was not blown away, but I was satisfied. Until my friend pointed me to this food cart. For 6 dollars, you can fill yourself with the well rounded dish known as the "lunch box." But if you're feeling like it might be a bit much, they have 4 dollar portions that hit the spot. The chicken was moist and hot off the grill, the sauce was gingery and not super sweet like a lot of teriyaki, the dumplings were crunchy, and the portion was huge. They pretty much only have 1 combo/choice on the menu, Teriyaki Chicken, rice (white or brown), fresh salad, and mandoos (dumplings).
