Boston Creme was the doughnut of my childhood and I thought I'd never taste one again after going vegan. When a friend brought me my first vegan BC from Dottie's, I was like an animal. I'm serious. A client made an unannounced visit to discuss something serious with me while I was eating it and I just kept eating. I am embarrassed to say I check their Facebook page for the featured specials every day, fully willing to drive nearly half an hour to buy one if need be. They have some really exotic ones. So I'm not vegan but I used to be and I've had some amazing 100% vegan desserts. However this place misses the mark. The donuts have a really weird gummy texture I think if the recipe was tweaked a bit it could make a huge difference. I think if you're vegan and the options are limited and you need a sweet fix then this place can do the job. But if you have a plethora of options and you're not vegan I wouldn't recommend coming here.... read more

This is a cute little place with some seating that would be nice to chill at during an off peak time. Came in excited for their eagles themed donut called the greased light pole and got a few others (chocolate glaze and the lemon poppy seed) Not what I was expecting. My first stop visiting from Chicago. There really is no vegan donut scene there in the least so I am always excited to eat donuts when I travel! Some of the best donuts I've ever had...and I wasn't always vegan! I love all of the unique flavors Dottie's carries. We got a chocolate cookie butter donut, a coconut mango donut, and a blueberry scone. This place is dangerous. Dangerously delicious! I love the vanilla glazed donut. The Boston cream styled donut is tasty and not too sweet, basically, perfect. Let me start this review by being completely honest: I'm a brat. Anything that mildly inconveniences me ruins my day. Now that I've got that over with.... I placed a Postmates order for Dottie's after I've had some coworkers at my vegan job tell me how good they are (coincidentally, my job used to sell Dottie's Cinnamon Buns). I was really craving doughnuts and since Krispy Kreme doesn't deliver or exist in Philly, I hoped that Dottie's would answer my prayers. Placed an order for three specialty doughnuts and a filled one. Received a call from my delivery driver and this was my fault but he was mumbling and finally asked if I'd prefer a Boston Creme or Apple Fritter. I didn't really know what this question meant so I said the AF. He arrives and lo and behold, the only thing in my bag is an apple fritter. Huh. I was saddened because I wanted a doughnut and almost just gave the whole thing away to my boyfriend but he told me to give it a try and honestly... that was the best damn thing I've ever had. I didn't give a f**k about not getting doughnuts (placed an order rather late in the day so I assume they ran out). That fritter changed my life. I realized that I should stop getting upset when things don't go my way and appreciate what I do get. But also, it was just so good. I'm normally not a fan of apple baked goods but ugh now I wish my driver would have brought me two or seven. TLDR: Get the damn apple fritter if there's nothing else left. It is worth it. read more

I love donuts and I am really happy a vegan donut place opened up in Philly. Donuts are pricey but worth it if you are vegan or just want to try something new. It's kind of hidden and hard to find, but there's a lot of free street parking close by. Every day they have cool unique different flavors and they usually post them on their Instagram. On their instagram they post when there donuts are sold out, which is great and considerate. My favorite donut so far has been the raspberry sugar filled with roasted fig jam and the Oreo. The donuts are big and fluffy and the consistency is very dense; different then any any donut I have had. The donuts are really good! They also have cinnamon buns and apple fritters, which are to die for. They tasted better than some of the donuts. Please definitely try these! The iced coffee is decent. There are a few stools and table for seating. Because they have rotating flavors everyday I definitely will be back again to try more. read more

These goodies don't fall into normal vegan traps - I could have been fooled that my boston cream donut was the non-vegan version! So, great job. Get there early, like seriously right when they open. If the apple fritter ain't ready yet, get a couple of whatever else looks good while you wait for 20 minutes for a hot fresh fritter. Seriously, it's that good... I mean they're all delish, especially when they are still hot, but the fritter is the best baked good I've eaten this year(it's fried but still counts as a baked good/pastry) which is saying a lot because I ate my way through Paris France this year and didn't abide by vegan rules... Delicious donuts and bagels! I couldn't even tell that they were vegan. My partner and I shared an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese and a caramel cheesecake donut. Dottie's is absolutely amazing! They have great beverages and pastries on top of their donut offerings. They have new creative flavors everyday; sometimes I need to try a flavor out of the pure uniqueness of it (even if I don't think it sounds particularly good - and every single time I wind up loving it.) Super excited to try this place. We got the cinnamon and sugar, vanilla glazed and chocolate PB and oreo donuts. We also got an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese. I'm not a fan of yeast donuts, but my husband danced with his cinn and sugar one. The flavors of the vanilla glazed and choc PB were good. I had the blueberry peanut butter? It was a dense donut with a good chew to it. I like the chew, but it was pretty hefty. You can probably use it as a pillow and it won't sink in like most pillow. The ingredients were high quality and the taste was on point. It wasn't too sweet and in your face, after each bite I could taste peanut butter and a hint of blueberry. This place was only a walk away from Clark Park. The donut was absolutely fantastic and somehow it didn't feel obnoxiously sweet the way a lot of vegan donuts do. I got a Peanut Butter Chocolate Oreo and it was HUGE so worth the price. I also got a bagel which was a dud- too difficult to chew, took me like 20 minutes to finish. I LOVE DOTTIE'S DONUTS! I was never a donuts person before I went vegan but this place changed my mind. The donuts and coffee are delicious. I've found myself making it a ritual checking their Instagram page to see what flavored donuts they will serve each day. Cookie butter, Thai tea, and cold brew are my favorite!! I buy a half a dozen every time to keep them coming back. I wish they repeated great flavors they made only once (like the snickerdoodle) because if you don't get to the shop that day, you'll never get it. I love the staff here. They are always kind and funny. I've been going here for 3 years now and fully support this business. My reason for the 4 stars is because of one of the newer employees. I've never had any problems with anyone here except for her. She seems to be in a bad mood all the time. Like I've stated before, I've been going here for 3 years now so I have a typical order. The other employees know my coffee order at this point so they can swiftly complete it. She, on the other hand, rolls her eyes and huffs & puffs at it. I tried to ignore it, but she's done this several times in a row. She made my drink incorrectly once because she misheard me. I told her the mistake and she tried to tell me I was wrong. I restated she misheard me because she was rushing and she stared at me for a few seconds. She then quickly dumped the drink into the sink aggressively and went to making it correctly. There was no one there except me so I don't know why she was rushing in the first place. I was in no hurry. She's typically here on the weekend so ever since then, I try not to run into her again. I'm not going to call her out by stating her name or look, but hopefully she reads the review and fixes her attitude. Dottie's Donuts is a happy environment and don't want her ruining it. My boyfriend and I were in the area for a car show. As always, I do my usual yelp search for vegan foods in the area. I saw Dottie's Donuts and knew we needed to stop there. We ended up getting a dozen. The breakfast donut was probably my favorite, followed by the jelly. We also got a boston creme, cherry sugar, chocolate chocolate and a purple one that I forgot the name of. The donuts were light and fluffy and delicious.
