No, no, no, no. If you're trying to figure out if you should go here either staying at the hotel/water park or in general the answer is no. My boyfriend and I wanted to save one day to have a "fancy" dinner. We got all dressed up and everything thinking we were going to have a nice dining experience. I don't even know what to say except this isn't that. The evening that was dined here was a pretty quiet Monday but for some reason they chose to seat everyone on top of each other even though most of the restaurant was empty. This made for a very crowded, loud experience even though there was barely anyone in the place. Then they brought us bread which was super crumbly and you had to cut the entire loaf yourself which normally whatever but it didn't really match the vibe they were attempting to give off ... then we started with the edamame my boyfriend order a steak and I ordered scallops and we both ordered broccoli to share (side dishes a La carte ) . The edamame was decent but took awhile to come out. Another thing that was very odd is they serve lukewarm water. The waitress only came to our table one time besides taking our initial order. The steak was pretty good I'm not going to lie but was it worth 60 dollars, sorry no and I will say I have had some steaks here in Texas that definitely are worth 60 dollars. The scallops however were the worst scallops I have ever had priced at 48 dollars. You will get a total of 4 scallops... and mine were unfortunately Sandy, rubbery, and fishy. I was so disappointed I have no words. Then the broccoli comes in this weird massive clump that you have to individually cut .. again this doesn't give the fancy experience they are pretending to give you, especially with how small the tables are.. why am I paying so much and cutting bread and broccoli at the table ? Why 4 stars? Because it certainly exceeded my expectations. --- --- --- Going into our trip to Kalahari, I was already dreading the food. The reviews ranged from meh to bad of all the restaurants on "campus", which had me tempted to leave the resort for our meals. But leaving was not super convenient and eating on-site was, so I let that win out over my desire to exclusively eat at highly-rated restaurants. Here were the results: ***5-stars -Special Bone-In Ribeye: I'm not sure if this is always available because it wasn't on the menu, but it was an absolutely awesome steak. It was definitely seasoned quite heavily, but I loved it. In all honesty, it was much better than the steak at an acclaimed restaurant in Houston that we'd recently visited for my wife's birthday. This is not "5-stars for a resort restaurant", it was legitimately one of the best steaks I've had in quite some time. -Hanging Bacon: I believe this is the top highlight on Yelp and it's that for a reason. The bacon was crispy and sweet (and large). The corn bread it's served with was the ideal complement. Order this always. ***4-stars -Lobster Mac-n-Cheese: Not a ton of lobster, but the chunks were large. A solid side option for your steak. ***3-stars -Brussels Sprouts: Had the right flavor, but were hard in the middle. ***1-star -Mushrooms: These honestly tasted like someone opened a can of mushrooms and dumped them on a plate. I ate maybe three of them, hoping they'd get better. They did not. This is the quality I was anticipating with resort food. Other notes: -The pinot noir I tried was pretty bitter and not my favorite, but that's kind of on me for not knowing wine well enough. -The server was very friendly and pretty attentive. -It was nice to go to a fancy steakhouse at a resort aimed at kids because it wasn't weird to have our son with us. In the "real world" we would have felt out of place doing that. -One of our favorite parts, especially from my wife's POV, was the musician. He was playing soft hits on the piano and singing and we really enjoyed him. Our grand total came out to over $200 after tip. Double Cut Steakhouse: More Like Double Missed We went to Double Cut last night, and let's just say the experience was... well, a cut below expectations. First off, they tried to convince me that my New York strip was a ribeye. Nice try, but I've seen enough steak to know when it's trying to impersonate another cut. Meanwhile, my wife's filet? Charred into what I can only describe as the love child of beef jerky and a hockey puck. Crunchy on the outside, crunchy on the inside--definitely not the filet we ordered. To their credit, they took my steak back to "show the chef" (probably as an example of how not to swap steaks), but the filet was left to suffer in silence, untouched and unredeemed. The waiter? Super friendly. The food? Super not. We're local, we come to Kalahari often, and have dined here a few times, but last night was like they were hosting a bad steakhouse parody. The event room next to us wasn't helping either--with staff scooting chairs around and hollering like they were hosting a musical chairs competition. For what we paid, there are plenty of places nearby that know how to cook a steak and keep the furniture moving to a minimum. Four stars don't come easy when I'm your customer, but this joint certainly earned it on my visit. It deserves mention that my meal and beverages were paid for by a company that basically reserved the room. I'm not sure that such an arrangement makes any difference, but I do know that there was a sizable tab at the end of the night. The accoutrements, such as the soup, salad and dessert were fresh and delicious. The filet though ... cooked marvelously. There is likely a steakhouse in the area that offers such quality, but if you are lodging at Kalahari, there's no need to travel beyond the property for a really good steak. Kudos. read more

We heard mixed reviews, but we were celebrating a special birthday while at Kalahari, so we decided to take the plunge. We knew it was going to be expensive, but we had high hopes. Our reservations were for 7pm and they were ready for us. We sat in the lounge area, which was fine, since they had live music. It all started very good. Drinks were good, Parmesan bread was excellent. We had the burnt ends and calamari for appetizers. Also very good. We ordered the Tomahawk steak to split between four of us. We ordered it medium rare and it came out rare and it was not the least bit warm. It was also pre-cut, so it was difficult to send back. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE STAR OF DINNER... For their most expensive steak, I expected better. The other entrees were okay. The linguine, kids filet steak and the burger were okay. Desserts were pretty good, the highlight being the S'mores Sundae...very unique and special dessert. Good in the beginning and the end, with the middle very mediocre. I'll begin by stating that I wrestled a bit with how to rate this one. I haven't been doing as many reviews but felt this experience deserved one. We stayed at the Kalahari and had a great experience overall. We were happy with the food overall compared to our expectations going in. Unfortunately, I think we caught this restaurant wrong. On entry, the restaurant is impressive. The wine bottles behind glass and the signage have a nice look and the walk back to the dining area gave the feel that this was a special place. It certainly takes you away from the feel of the family resort with kids running around. Great start to a date night. Our server greeted us and discussed drinks and apps. We ordered the Ahi Tuna app and a bottle of Wine. Wine List: Has a lot of overpriced crowd pleasers e.g. Silver Oak, Prisoner, etc. They did t have vintages on any of the selections which I found odd for a steakhouse. It was tough to find a good Value on this list, but I found one that I was happy with. It opened up fine after about 30 minutes but I was wondering about the wine storage temps here. I did appreciate the wine being decanted for us. Ahi: The Ahi was good quality as was the Avocado. What was odd to us was the Ranch on the dish. This is Texas, so we chalked it up to crowd-pleasing for the usual guests here. There were 3 slivers of radish on top, presumably for texture and color contrast.?. I was ok with the radish, but it didn't blend in and ended up consumed before I could try any with the tuna. I'll give the dish 4/5 as I can't give a 5 with Ranch on an Ahi dish. Next, we decided to have skulls for apps. My wife had the Lobster bisque and I had the French Onion Soups: The Lobster Bisque and French Onion were both good. My wife finished her Lobster Bisque and was pleased with it. My French Onion was good. Nothing remarkable, but I was happy with it. 4/5. So far, so good... Then came the entree. First we ordered the 45 day aged NY Steak. The server came back and told us they were out. So we ordered the 45 Day aged bone in Ribeye. I tried to stick to the dry aged thing even though I have been in a NY strip kick lately. So.. the steak comes. And The runner drops it and leaves I cut I to the steak and the think is really red. So I touch the middle with my finder to see the temp. And I felt like I touched a little bit of ice. This sucker was cold. I hate this dilemma at restaurants and immediately I'm thinking (that's why Pappas Bros. has you cut the steak in front of them. They want to make sure it's cooked right so you don't have to tell them if it's wrong. They care if it's right.). I k ow I was a little douchey about the wine list so I didn't want to be a problem but this steak was wayyyyy off. I called the server over and said it was u undercooked. Server took the steak back and asked if they could do anything else. We said we would be ok with the Madge d potatoes and wine u til we got meat again. So fast forward a few minutes and the steak comes back out. Apologies from staff and manager brings the steak. The first thing I notice is that this is the same steak I cut in half earlier. I know it's an expensive cut and that's a big loss, but refiring a steak cut in half... ok. I kind of take that as chef doesn't think they cooked it wrong I take a cut and it looked more done than before. But when I cut into both halves one was under but medium rare in places. The other one was still way undercooked. But now we also had this bark in the outside that tasted weird and was chewy. I wish I took a pic after the first drop but only took a pic after the second. It wasn't ice cold but the steak was ruined. We each took a bite and gave up on it. To their credit the server and manager both asked how they could make it right and offered another steak (after 2 tries and a chunk of the night it's a pass. I have no confidence in you his chef) and dessert. They took off the steak charge which I appreciated. 0/5 for the steak. Mashed potatoes ended up being our main course. They were fine although I think they had cloves of garlic in them. I could be remembering wrong but I think we We're eating around them. 3.5/5 The staff tried. It would be nice for them to call out the kitchen error on the front end, but I appreciate the effort to correct the situation. 4/5. I don't think I can get over the lack of execution from the kitchen x2, but based on other reviews and pics I think we were unlucky. Wow! We had a fabulous dinner here while staying at Kalahari for a small family getaway. We walked in around 5:30 pm on Friday evening without a reservation and were seated right away. The ambience was elegant and charming with a live lounge singer and piano player setting the mood with some classic tunes. Our server, Ariah, was excellent - Extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Although this is an upscale steakhouse, it is also located within a family-friendly resort so I appreciated that they had a kids menu. My husband and I shared the chef's special - Chateaubriand with a trio of sauces - chimichurri, horseradish, and green peppercorn brandy. The creamed spinach with scallions was delicious although I will say a single serving (not the larger family size) is enough for two people. Huge selection of wines and bourbons. Elegant atmosphere. Review of DoubleCut Steakhouse - New Year's Eve Disaster This placed should be called: TROUBLE CUT THIEF HOUSE I recently visited DoubleCut Steakhouse for what was meant to be a special New Year's Eve dinner, but I left deeply disappointed and frustrated. This was my first visit--and quite possibly my last--to this purportedly upscale, very expensive restaurant. Let me start by saying the atmosphere was anything but "upscale." There was no dress code enforced, and to my surprise, people were casually sitting next to me and my date in swimsuits, while we were dressed for a nice New Year's Eve dinner. I was in a dinner jacket, and my date was elegantly attired, yet we found ourselves seated next to patrons who looked as though they had just come from a pool. The problems escalated when it came to the food. We ordered a $69 porterhouse steak to share, only to be told they were out of that cut. The waiter then tried to upsell us a $200 steak, which I politely declined. Instead, I settled for two filet mignons at $58 each--bringing the total to $120, a $51 increase from my original choice of steak. Clearly, this was a bait-and-switch tactic. To make matters worse, my date ordered a $10 baked potato, but was then told they were out of baked potatoes and sold us $15 mashed potatoes as a replacement. This felt like another attempt to overcharge customers without offering value. The final straw came at the end of the meal when an 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill--without any prior notification. This was especially frustrating because their website explicitly states that the gratuity is only added for parties of six or more. We were a party of two. As a result, I ended up tipping nearly 20% on top of that, which amounted to an additional $66. To top it all off, the service was abysmal. The waitress seemed ill-suited for such a high-end establishment, lacking the professionalism and poise one might expect at this price point. The entire experience felt like a money grab, with no attention to customer service or satisfaction. Overall, DoubleCut Steakhouse is an unscrupulous establishment that I would not recommend to anyone. The overpriced food, deceptive tactics, and lack of proper service made for a thoroughly disappointing evening. I'll be steering clear of this place in the future, and I'll be warning others to do the same. read more

The dumplings our son ordered weren't available, but they didn't bother telling us until we had waited about 40 minutes. They recovered by giving him a different item as a substitute, but our entrees took about an hour to arrive...and of course, after swimming all day, I was starving. Our entrees, aged rib eye and prime rib, and sides - truffle fries, creamed corn, and creamed spinach, were all good overall. We finished our meal, but were still charged for the dumplings we never received. It took another 20 minutes to resolve that issue. Up until we received the check, the restaurant brought itself up to 3 stars, but ultimately the last error with the check really put a damper on our entire meal. For what it costs us to eat here, I expected much better food and service. 1-Burnt Ends- whomever cooked these should be arrested! Being in TX and right across the street from Salt Lick BBQ, you would expect these to not be deep fried to a crisp and just crumble apart. A little salt on the outside but once you got past that is was just a tasteless mass of super tough chewing 3-we paid with a gift card for the resort and we were told that all of the gift cards were used. When I brought it up to the manager who stopped by our table, the card with the leftover balance was suddenly found when he went to check with the wait staff. They removed from bill but still. You're at a kids indoor water park. Play it safe and stick to the burgers and fries for dinner, walk up breakfast tacos and round rock donuts for breakfast, and quesadillas for lunch. We've visited this restaurant at least once per year since 2020 and we've had great past experiences however our visit last night left us questioning whether or not we'd be returning. Party of 5 including myself waited approximately 1 hour and 45 mins for our main courses. After wondering where our food was, I realized that there were two neighboring tables who were seated before us that still hadn't received their food as well. Waitstaff was great. Kitchen was awful. Typically it's not that hard to separate the waitstaff service from the kitchen when it comes to service issues, however an almost two hour wait makes that separation extremely difficult. Overall the food has always been delicious, but the wait definitely isn't worth it. We probably won't be returning any time soon. If you're at Kalahari, I suggest eating offsite or grabbing a pizza at Sortinos and eating in the lobby or your room. read more

Four of us went last night for a graduation celebration. The steaks were quite delicious. My husband had the 8 oz filet and I had the NY strip, along with another member of our party. Our grandson who was the man of the hour went for the wagyu steak. All were cooked perfectly as ordered and were so yummy! We all couldn't stop commenting on how good they were as we ate them. Our primary waitress was lovely and professional but some of the secondary servers need a bit more training and/or supervision. For example, after our utensils were taken away with our finished salad plates, we never got new forks for our meals. Our steaks were served and we sat there staring at them, unable to begin eating while waiting for the server to come back with forks. It took too long and should not have happened at a place where you're paying $72 for a steak. Also, my husbands salad plate was not taken away when they served his steak. It was obvious that his place should have cleared before the server started laying the steak plates on the table. It created unnecessary awkwardness. The food was all delicious though. My grandson loved the lobster bisque and the mashed potatoes. I had a loaded baked potato which was really decadent. The only thing I would change about it was it seemed like it was sitting in a pool of melted butter. I would have preferred to have a dollop of butter to mix in myself rather than having melted butter literally poured into the potato, making it a little too greasy in my opinion. I had made reservations for my wife's birthday. This was the first time we had been to double cut. First. We waited for almost 30 minutes past the reservation time for our table. We waited in the lounge area where there was a very loud karaoke type entertainer which was a little off putting. Both the long wait and the "entertainment" was a new experience I had not seen in any fine dining establishment. With the reservation, I had requested a bottle of Perrier-Jouet, as well as the dessert to be served as a birthday cake. This was put in the notes when the reservation was made and confirmed after the debacle. Both items ended being missed. Next, the server was essentially reading the menu from memory, which was bizarre. Initially I was wanting the advertised butcher's cut, which I found out was not a butcher's cut, i.e. hanger steak, but just the steak of the day. I would have thought a steak restaurant would know the difference. I ordered the NY strip and received a filet minion. They took it back to fire the correct steak and left the sides to sit at the table and get cold while waiting for the entree. The potatoes flaked off in chunks when serving. I am assuming they were dropped in boiling water, instead of putting in cold water and brought to a boil to release the starch, combined with the amount of butter, but not correctly whipped with cream/milk. Just poor execution. The cream sauce in the spinach was congealed and had broken. I sent it all back and waited for my wife to enjoy her crab so I could get a meal elsewhere at that point. Finally, the dessert was sent on a cheap plate with "Happy Anniversary" printed to look like it was done with icing, as every other fine dining establishment we have been do does, aside from the fact it was intended as a birthday celebration. I must say, this was indeed a great pick for NYE. We arrived just before the doors open. The restaurant was awesome with accommodating our two extra guests. We totally appreciate that. And our server was phenomenal. I'm so sorry sweetie I don't recall your name. But she was the nicest thing ever! She did great with accommodating the 6 of us and was indeed very polite, informative with the menu and kept our order coming in a timely fashion. We will indeed be back. I'm still looking forward to trying the lamb chop. The ambiance was spectacular. Although it was pretty busy NYE, it was not noisy at all. It had a very romantic tone. So great place for date night. The guy on the piano was pretty good, unfortunately I don't know what he was saying half the time. He can hold a note , but his diction was a bit off. Which kind of made it comedic. This place is truly incredible! Our meal was delightful, especially the prime rib and new york steak! The wine selection is to die for, and our starters were so amazing! We started our dining with the hanging bacon, which has multiple types of bacon all dipped and rubbed in a brown sugar mix. This place was out of this world amazing! The lounge singer was a nice surprise. We grabbed a drink at the bar and listened to light music play as we waited for our table. Set the mood for the evening for sure. The ambiance in this place is perfect for anniversary, special date or any night really. Prices are high so would not do it weekly but will definitely be back and would recommend to locals or out of towners for a great dinner place. We started with hanging bacon and cornbread app which was delicious. Moved on to scallops and aged ribeye which melted in your mouth and then couldn't finish our dessert so packed it up to take home.
