Ate here today with a friend. When I entered, I thought I was upstate at the only diner in town. It has that type of atmosphere. very blue collar and very good! Absolutely classic American small town diner fare. The food is decent, the portions are relatively generous, the service is brisk and attentive, the specials are in plentiful supply, and the prices are low. My family brought me here for my 69th birthday and it was totally a hit and miss experience. First of all, if you are looking for nostalgia, this is the right place to be. The moment I stepped inside the door I was reminded of the many diners I have visited in my youth. That was the first plus. We also had a very friendly waitress who even went so far as to not charge us for the slice of cake I requested to take home for my birthday (we were far too full to eat any dessert after our meals). Unfortunately my Daughter and Son-in-law were disappointed when we asked for take-home boxes, which we received in a timely manner, and yet the bill hadn't even been prepared when we were ready to leave and they had to go to the front in order to have that done. Now as to the food... it was definitely hit and miss. I ordered the Broiled Seafood Combo and was delighted with what I received. It included the usual items (crab cake, shrimp, scallops, and fish) but also one you seldom see at a diner... a lobster tail. What a treat! Although the lobster was a bit overcooked, it tasted just fine. Everything on the platter was good, but the crab cake was definitely much softer and looser than others I've had at local diners. This didn't detract from the taste but the texture was a tiny bit off-putting. Now for the star... the crock of French Onion Soup was delicious. I will definitely order this again. Most of the rest of my family ordered off the breakfast menu and seemed content with their orders. Now I come to the most unfortunate miss. My Son-in-law chose the special of the day... the beef stroganoff. He took just one large bite and immediately pushed it away. My Daughter took a smaller bite and made a terrible face. I can't speak to what bothered them because I declined to taste it myself, but it was obvious that the meal was inedible to both of them. I was told that it had a very strong metallic taste and left a lingering unpleasant aftertaste. I cannot say why this happened, but they had no problem in removing it from the bill even though he did eat the baked potato and salad that came with his meal. Oh yes, the salad bar was a big plus. Not all of the local diners provide an all-you-can-eat salad bar buffet style which also included such things as pudding. I would return just so that I could take advantage of that bar again. I was, however, disappointed in my cake which I ate later in the evening. It was carrot cake, a particular favorite of mine that I've seen made in dozens of different ways. Their recipe is not one of my favorites. The cake was far too dense and had far too many nuts in it. The nuts overpowered the flavor. The frosting was far too sparing, especially between the layers. Actually this is a case of preference in taste more than any fault with the cake itself. Overall there are other local diners I lean towards return visits more, and am not that sure I'll make an effort to return here in the near future. Overall... 2 1/2 Stars. read more

Food is great.... but sometimes the servers are sketchy. So is the parking! But honestly amazing breakfast and take out is always on point.

I stopped in there when driving through PA on Friday. Very nice employees. I ordered French toast, scrambled eggs and coffee. The French toast was very good and the scrambled eggs and coffee were very good as well. The price was very reasonable and have no complaints. This is a nice, clean, and comfortable diner. I would eat here again if I ever find myself in the neighborhood. read more

Great diner. They easily and graciously accommodated our 18 player soccer team plus parents. Salad and soup bar was great. Two different types of soups on the bar. Servings were large and the waitresses did a great job getting our orders taken and served and back to our next game. read more

My wife and I were in the area for a visit to Longwood Gardens last weekend and decided to stop at this diner for a late lunch. The staff was warm and friendly. The decor is a well executed early 1960's Formica and metal tables with red vinyl seats and booths. We ordered burgers, which were tasty. Generally the food is good, typical diner food. Staff is friendly to their regulars. My family from the area eat there often. So when a take out order is missing a chunk of what was ordered and the owner doesn't call (3 times) as is promised, and no refund is given, needless to say, the word gets out and neither myself, when in town, nor my family will eat there again. read more

Food is always good here. Service from all of the waitresses is always great - courteous, attentive, kind, and friendly. The owner on the other hand- very much lacks people and good, honest business skills. I ordered a tuna melt, which normally comes with fries. I asked my waitress to substitute pickles for the fries and she informed me I could substitute a side size salad for the fries. She even said I could go to the salad bar to get it. Well, the salad I got from the salad bar was very small, about the size of a tea saucer - lettuce, some shredded carrots, half of a hard boiled egg, about 10 kidney beans, 10 chick peas, and 2 beet slices with fat-free Italian dressing. Unbeknownst to me, when my check came out, the owner insist to the waitress that I be charged for the tuna melt and fries (which I didn't get) plus $5.99- for a total of $16. Are you serious?! If you aren't allowed substitutions, then that should be clearly conveyed to the wait staff and written on the menus. read more

I'll tell you what, if I wrote this review about ten years ago, I wouldn't give it a five, just because of the original look of the place and it smelled like someone had gone to the bathroom on the floor. But now in 2015 this place is great! Same staff just a bit of a uplift in the décor to change it to a very diner like setting, wait staff is very tentative and the speed of getting your food all depends on the time of the day you go (If you go at seven to eight on a Saturday, your going to get your food in like ten minutes flat), food is great, I always get a two egg breakfast and its always a good meal to have when your out in Thorndale, love the buffet and price's are very good. I'll have to try it sometime for lunch sometime. Only thing I'd give a gripe about is the space between the table and the booths, there is a very small amount of space if your sitting at the double booths by the window, half of the time I've hit my leg on either the leg of the table or the wall, they should have either done what they did at the back wall and have the booth on one side and the table on the other in the diner section. read more

Every time we've been to Double D diner, we've had quick, consistent service. The prices are good with large portions. It can be very crowded around weekend brunch time with large parties sitting near the breakfast buffet but thankfully they have a section with booths only, so we've never had to wait longer than a few minutes for a seat. Good food but the service was sub par....waitress was surly and the person at the register seemed pre-occupied and confused. Won't be going back. Coffee Cup in nearby Downingtown is by far a better place to eat. read more
