I wouldn't give this place any stars. We didn't even get inside before the bouncers assaulted our friend slamming him on the ground, and then slamming my hubs a onto the concrete. My friends are I were downtown and decided to stop here. 5 dollar cover not too bad other then there was nowhere to even stand. My friends tried to use the free shot on Yelp and the bartender said it was a shot of his choice which was disgusting! So far our SD adventure was not quite fulfilling yet. Arrived at Double Deuce, a country/ hip ho bar. It was alright. The country side had clogging and I do appreciate some good dancing myself so it was pretty cool to see this done live. The second part of the bar had a bull & hip hop music. The tunes were good & it was fun to watch drunk asses eat it when trying to ride the bull. I liked this place, it was more of a chill vibe then really getting your dance on. I was there at a private party, so I didn't have to witness any stupid crowds, excess countrified wardrobes, or cover charges. That alone is worth a good review. I guess on Monday nights, after 8 is Industry night. Whatever that means. We all got to ride the bull! It is fun to see the guys who think they are tough get on there and get tossed around. Girls need to be careful riding the bull, depending on how little of clothing they are wearing, as we caught a lot of crotch shots... There is a bar in the bull room, a bar in the karaoke room, and a bar upstairs, with a nasty looking golden pole of some sort that goes from floor to ceiling... All the bartenders are good at mixing drinks, but then again when you are a good bar patron, you only order drinks that have the name of the liquor you want in it- ala T and T, Jack and whatever, Scotch neat, Vodka and soda, etc... or beer. Make it easy on them! I probably won't come here, unless I want to Cowboy Up. Sometimes, you gotta pull on yer boots and kick some manure around. read more

First I want to say thank you to the management team for accommodating our group with the drink wristbands. However, the bartenders last night were not so accommodating to our group. They were rude and arguing with girls when ordering drinks because they did not believe that it was suppose to be $3 drinks and free drinks for the birthday girls. It took a solid 10 minutes just discussing that our bill was priced wrong. This ultimately led to us leaving the bar earlier than planned because we did not feel welcomed or happy with our stay. Went here on a Saturday night with some friends it seemed like a good place to go about mid way through our night. I paid the cover and purchased one drink and as I'm standing at the bar drinking it the bar tender takes it from me, gives me water and next thing I know a bouncer is escorting me out. I wasn't belligerently drunk I was just standing calmly at the bar with my drink. Also when I explain that my friends are inside and I just want to find them they continue to shove me out. Even if I was ridiculously intoxicated shoving a girl outside by themselves away from their friends really doesn't seem like a good idea. find a dude/chick in cowboy gear and have them give you a stamp on your hand... then make your way on over for free admission. just saved you several bucks. this place isn't phenomenal by any means but certainly one of the most entertaining spots of downtown for its uniqueness and the constant amount of girls that like to ride the bull. ;) in one room they play country and the other, top 40. It does tend to get stuffy upstairs but its great place for people watching. Rode the mechanical bull after watching my friend do so twice. The differences in our rides was crazy. She fell off because of rocking back and forth too quickly. I fell off because the guy operating the bull decided to whip it from right to left after only a short time of slowly rocking the bull back and forth. I landed in intense pain and heard three tearing sounds. This was the first night of my vacation. When I returned home, I discovered I had torn my rotator cuff and fractured my humerus bone. I now have to have surgery because the mechanical bull operator was a jerk. I signed a waiver, of course. I had only had 1.5 beers, so I wasn't drunk. I stupidly trusted that the guy would make the ride similar to that of my friend's. Don't ride the mechanical bull. I did it because it was free - but it definitely cost me. read more

YES..there is a wide variety of music, its not ALL COUNTRY ALL THE TIME. YES... there is a cover on the weekends (welcome to downtown)... but you can get on the list and get in free! Go to the website or myspace page and email your name and you're in! YES.. the mechanical bull is awesome. Some call it "cheesy, sexist or over-rated". Call it what you want, its still hilarious to see people up there. YES there is a stripper pole which is also great entertainment as the night progresses and those jager bombs kick in and females AS WELL AS MALES try their "skills " on the pole. Sing-a-longs like "Sweet Caroline" and "Don't Stop Believing" scream from the speakers on saturday nights (along with country of course). If you have a favorite song you want to sing.. GRAB A MIC AND GET ON STAGE! If sing-a-longs and country isn't your thing, head on over to bull room on fridays and saturdays where you can listen to top 40 hits you would hear on 98.9, 9.33 etc.. We felt right at home when we walked in to country music, a mechanical bull, and dancers on the bar like in coyote ugly. there's hip hop playing on one side and country on the other sometimes with hip hop mash ups. The DJ was ok, I don't know if people in SD really know anything beyond pop country, but he threw in a few oldies like garth :) The only minus was that there was NO DANCE FLOOR! you couldn't get away with that in texas... so we made one. $5 cover on Fridays, lots of friendly people and bachelorette parties. fun times! read more

Came for my birthday which fell on a Saturday a couple weeks ago. I've been to double deuce a few times before that and always had a good time, so we brought a group with us. Everything was fine, the drinks were good and the bull was fun to watch as always - only complaint was the DJ on the second floor on the bull side. My friend and I requested songs only to be told by him "what kind of a place do you think this is?"... I was shocked because I requested a pretty tame rap song (in my opinion) and he was playing the soft-core porn version of Trap Queen on all the tvs. My friend requested Bossy by Kelis and he rolled his eyes at her. How extremely rude. I would understand if it was two drunk girls coming over to bother him but we were polite and nice. I went here with my friends and boyfriend while in DTSD. This country bar is pretty huge! There are two levels and 4 bar areas. The first level has the main bar at the entrance, and behind that area is the mechanical bull area, with a small bar nearby. The upstairs level had two areas as well, overlooking the downstairs area, especially the mechanical bull. To go ride the bull, you have to sign up, sign some waiver, and pay $5 lol. So many people go ride that bull, mainly girls, and the occasional drunk dude. The funniest part was watching the dude who was in control of the mechanical bull handle business. He really was having fun with the controls, big smiles! But when guys go up to ride the bull he's not so happy, and he gets boring with the controls. Overall, this was a good bar as it is pretty big, filled with country music, and there's the mechanical bull if you wanna go crazy. Oh yeah, if you check in you get a free shot! read more

Fun place for a night out! If you love country music, this is the bar for you. It gets pretty crowded so either get there early or wait in line. I do however like double deuce. This bar slash club like any one in downtown has a cover. It is very big upstairs downstairs country music side hip hop rap side and well although I'd love to be in the country side have to go to the hip hop side in order to ride the bull! It is a tradition I will not leave here till I have riden the bull! Yes its mechanical. This bar has a large military crowd I usually always see a fight or argument. Mixed group of people. This was the last stop for our night of bar hopping on Halloween weekend. The girls in our group didn't have to wait in line at all as one of the promoter girls just let us right in. We met up with the guys later as they had to wait haha. Ironically enough I was dressed up as a cowgirl for the night! (Maybe that's why I got a free bull ride). The music was an odd mix of rock, country, and top 40 which I wasn't really feeling all too much. The crowd here wasn't that great either. A fight broke out and some dude was bleeding. (Not really what I want to see when I've got a nice buzz on). The place was surprisingly crowded. As gimmicky as the mechanical bull was it's the only reason I'm giving this place 3 stars. I'd never ridden one before and like I said, some guy gave me a card for a free ride so I took advantage. My roommate had to pay the 5 bucks though. The wait to ride the bull was kind of long as they usually give you another try once you fly off. The guy who controls the bull is a lot easier on girls too. I never in a million years thought I would be so down to ride a mechanical bull in front of a bunch of drunk strangers! So it did add an unexpected but fun element to cap off my night. I am the reason The Tipsy Crow is now the Tipsy Crow. My friend got THROWN out of the Double Duece tonight. He had just gotten off a shift from treating cancer patients. A patron ran into him and spilled his beverages. He made it back to us an apologized for the accident. While he was apologizing, bouncers grabbed him and escorted him out. We immediately followed trying to ask what was wrong. Needless to say. Bye bye, Double Duece... don't know why you would treat someone this way. I never came here often when it was Martini Ranch, it was a very average bar but at a great location in the middle of Gaslamp. I've been here a few times now since it's Double Deuce, I like it a lot, who knew it would be so much fun watching people on the mechanical bull? I didn't even like country music that much, but I think they only play it about half the time, it's San Diego after all. cover is $10, haven't figured out how to get in for free yet, I don't have boobs. read more
