Lots of reasons to like and patronize Double Dogs in Hardin Valley. Garage doors for that al fresco feeling, flat screens everywhere, good food at reasonable prices, clean restrooms and lots more. For us, the most important thing is that the help and especially the bar tenders make us feel welcome. They are more than just money takers and drink deliverers. They take an interest in their customers and we love going to a place where we feel wanted and welcome. Sadly there are nice restaurants right in this area that make their customers feel like they are a nuisance and a bother. Too bad, not good for business but on the bright side, great for Double Dog. It is cheesy, tasty, a little creamy, with chicken bites and croutons mixed in with the flavor of buffalo sauce blended in. It makes my mouth water thinking about it. I've been here twice and neither time disappointed. This time I ordered a root beer float and the blue cheese burger. I think the patty could be a little larger, in relation to the size of the bun, but otherwise the flavor was delicious. The fries are skinny fries and do not come with the burger, but can be added for not much more money. All in all, the atmosphere is a bit crowded and loud, but it's a sports bar. In spite of the mediocre reviews, since it's located so close we decided to give this place a shot for some Friday evening take out for the family. Not a complicated order, two burgers, a pizza, some wings and fries. When we got the food home, even though items were correct on the ticket, there were missing items (fries), wrong items (blue cheese dressing instead of ranch), and items missing ingredients from their own menu (loaded double dog pizza had no pepperoni). First thing to know is that this place seems to always stay packed, so that tells you that people must like it! I've been here three times and the most recent two visits were for take out As for the atmosphere, the word that comes to mind is "busy." There must be 20 different TV screens all going at once with different programming. If it's dinner time, you'll probably need to use your "outside voice" to be heard by your fellow dining guests or bar mates. If you're looking for a place to quietly unwind and relax after work, this isn't the place. If you want to be loud and keep that stress level up for a little while, then this is where you want to be. As for the food, they put nice unique spins on typical entrees and they achieve positive results with the outcome. On this visit I had the Thai Pasta Salad. On top of a layer of iceberg lettuce, you have pasta shells mixed with cucumbers, Edamame, and tomatoes. Usually onions are there too, but I'm not a fan so I told them to hold the onions. The dressing is Thai Garlic Vinaigrette which provides a good amount of spiciness to the salad. I got the entrée size for $6.99 and it was enough to satisfy. There apparently is also a "side order" portion available too. They have a good selection of brick-oven pizzas too focusing on specialty topping combinations. All pizzas, by the way, are one size: 10 inches. It's a perfect size for one hungry person, but if you are thinking about sharing, it may be better to order two pizzas. Worst case scenario is you'll have some leftovers of their delicious pizza for later! read more

Kudos yet again to the entire staff at Double Dogs. We had 20ish people in there last night for a reunion of former co-workers. The staff rolled with us and provided excellent service in addition to your consistently wonderful food and clean, friendly atmosphere. Our very patient and friendly waitress provided our table with plates of garnishes (cherries, lime, orange, lemon) to snack on while our large party arrived and gave us coloring pages and crayon packets for the kiddies. ***I wish I had listened more attentively to her name, so I hope someone in management will see this and know which one she was.*** She is tall and thin with dark hair pulled back in a ponytail. She is very friendly, attentive, efficient and professional, as was all your staff working the side room (with the garage doors) last night. Our party kept growing and taking over more room, and they worked together as a seamless team to patch more tables together and get everyone served quickly. Everyone in our group had a great time. I loved my Breakfast Burger, and, of course, the fries. You all always do a great job serving my husband, who is on an extremely carb-restricted diet. First and last visit I met a friend for late lunch at the Double Dogs on Hardin Valley road. Her son shortly came to join us. The staff insisted he wear a mask from the door to our table (15 ft?) and he was a bit belligerent, saying things like 'this is stupid'. Nothing obscene, just complaining. When he finally walked to the table, he yanked it off halfway to the table. Admittedly, this was all bad behavior on his part. Just as he sat down, the owner stormed up to the table and essentially got into my young friend's face, telling him that this was a serious thing, and a manager at the restaurant had died from COVID, etc. The young man threw the mask on the table and left in a huff. I am not condoning the young man's behavior - in fact, I took him to task over it later. My issue is with the owner. There are ways and ways of saying things to people. He could have tried to sooth and gain understanding from my young friend. Instead, the owner chose direct confrontation in a belligerent, challenging, rather loud tone. It was rather like watching two animals confronting each other trying to start a fight. At the end of our meal, over an hour later, I walked to the desk and asked to speak to the owner. I was very polite and acknowledged that my young friend did not behave well. Before I even got my sentence completed, I was given a lecture on how he had behaved, and how the owner was sick of people pushing back on the mask thing. Again, I kept calm and said I understood that he had to uphold mask wearing and my issue was not with that but with his tone of voice and attitude while pursuing the matter. I was told that he would 'say it the same way 50 times' and 'if anyone didn't like it they could go somewhere else.' As he was talking, the volume on his side got louder and he was visibly angry or affronted. At that point, I just said 'Well, ok then.'. He said 'Okay' and stalked back into the restaurant. Not only could the owner have handled the situation with my young friend better, I left feeling I had been attacked for bringing up a concern. So, be prepared for possibly fireworks at Double Dogs. Personally, I like a calmer atmosphere than seems to be present here. read more

We were happily surprised this past Saturday night when hungry and returning from a trip we discovered that Double Dogs' kitchen stays open until 1am, and decided to give it a try. Husband and I both ordered burgers, me a "Bo Burger" and he a "Blue Cheese Burger,"both with fries. Fresh, crispy lettuce, well made burger with all the usual trimmings. Really tasty! The fries were so-so; I think maybe the oil wasn't hot enough when they tossed them in, because they were a little oily and soggy. We'll give them another try and hope they're better next time, because fries....well you gotta have 'em... Drink prices were very reasonable. Recommended! read more

This is a regular place for my volleyball crew and me. Play sand doubles in the Spring and Summer then head here. The food is OK. Honestly we come here more out of convenience. The real trouble with this place is the service. It is 99% of the time sub-par. We NEVER have the same server. This says (to me) that the turnover of staff is high and that's not a good sign. Our waitresses typically miss the mark in three key areas: 1. They don't know what liquors the restaurant carries. 2. They often walk away while we are still ordering food....I guess they think the order is done. But it's not. 3. Their follow up after the first few bites of each course (we usually order an app and entree) is inconsistent. With more attention paid by management to these errors Double Dogs would vastly improve. read more

Tried Double Dogs for the first time. Arrived about 5:00 PM and was seated right away. Greeted quickly at the table by my server, Lindsey. Ordered drinks and then got down to looking over the menu. The menu is pretty diverse, with a variety of sandwiches, 1/4 lb hot dogs, brick oven pizzas, salads and burgers. Ordered the jalepeno burger with a side order of onion rings. My girlfriend ordered the Tillamook Dog. Everything arrived hot and presented well. The onion rings were lightly battered and very fresh. After two beers apiece ($2.95 for a 22 oz beer) and all the food, the bill was $30, which I thought was a great price. Started getting really busy on a Tuesday night by 6:00 PM. So, I just gotta give a shoutout to Ken from Double Dogs of Knoxville in Hardin Valley. Gene and I went there tonight after a long grueling day at his work. The place was crazy. People coming in as others were leaving. We spent two hours there while Gene watched the football game. I spent the two hours observing. The staff there is amazing. Those poor people did not stop. But Ken, was in charge of the Kitchen staff, and making sure the food got out. Well, he was in charge of everything pretty much. LOL. He is AWESOME! I seriously sat there in awe as he made certain every table got what they wanted and in good timing. The man did not sit down once, nor did his staff. And he smiled. Even coming to our table and jokingly saying "come on back, I'll show you how it's done" . I think he saw the amusement and total respect in my eyes . Our waiter Justin came to our table and even apologized that he couldn't get there more times, even though he made absolute certain we had everything we needed. I'm honestly so impressed by how this restaurant is run. Kudos to them. I would definitely come back. I wish we would have gotten pictures of our food, because that was amazing too. We were just too hungry. LOL PS. Ken is seriously the bomb when it comes to management. I even talked to some the servers and they all said the same. He's amazing and just what they need.
