This is the only auto repair I have ever used where I totally trust John to tell me what I need and what I don't need.

I had the chance to reject them, but it felt like a pretty aggressive way to try to upsell. After I approved only the necessary services, I got a notification later in the day that they had to add one more item to the invoice, a replacement mass airflow sensor. And I couldn't reject it if I wanted to pass the state inspection. I'm pretty skeptical that it was actually necessary, and if it had been included before I'd approved other charges, I'd have felt like I could get a second opinion at another garage. They had to order the mass airflow sensor, so I got my car back in the mean time. When I tried to drive it the next day, I got a warning "Check Hybrid System - Stop Vehicle in a Safe Place." When I stopped at a stoplight, the car wouldn't drive until I turned it off and back on again. I couldn't take it back to Girlington Garage because they'd closed for five days for some company event. I took it to another garage, they ran a diagnostic, and based on the results, I'm pretty sure it's related to Girlington fiddling with the mass airflow sensor. Honestly, I feel kind of scammed. The prices are really high, I feel like they tried to sell me things I don't need (and partially succeeded), and I got back a car I couldn't drive for five days. I will say, the Service Manager, Nya, seems really great.

It does not have power steering by design, and it's not required for a vehicle of this age. I've replaced almost everything on the car myself and have five years of shop experience, so I know what I'm working with. Before bringing the car in, I informed them about the existing issues. My rear tie rod bushing was bad because I was sent a defective aftermarket part from TrueHart. I had already contacted the company, and they apologized and sent a replacement. Since the car is lowered, I need that specific aftermarket tie rod for proper rear alignment adjustments. I made all of this clear ahead of time. I also explained that my front subframe was squeaking due to hitting a pothole and scraping my subframe, and that I already had replacement bushings on the way. I told them not to worry about these issues because they were already being addressed. I understand doing a pre-inspection for liability reasons. However, despite being fully informed, they flagged my inspection and then tried to upsell me on repairs I clearly stated I did not need from them. I never asked for diagnostic work -- I only came in for tires. Because they reported my car, the shop that previously inspected it ended up getting fined for issues that occurred after my inspection. My inspection was also set to expire in two months, so it wasn't even close to new. I want to be clear: I have nothing against the mechanic. My issue is with the service writer and how this was handled. In five years of working in shops, I've never had a worse experience. If you don't work on your own vehicle, be cautious. If they bring you a quote for additional work, I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before agreeing to anything. Based on my experience -- and what I've seen in other reviews -- this doesn't seem like a one-time issue. This is the only shop I've ever felt strongly enough about to write a negative review. Unfortunately, this was by far the worst experience I've had.

The process was pretty smooth except I think their default service is set up for purchase and service in shop. So when I called about my appointment they had to check another system or another service member. It's not a huge issue but it did make me wonder how Goodyear gets away with calling their online service/order system easy. So I'm not sure I can blame VT Tire for that. Service took about an hour or so as the old lug nuts on the car needed replacement and the technician showed me in great detail why, which I very much appreciated. They got me on my way pretty smoothly. My only complaint is they did try to help by mentioning my TPMS warning light would be on after the new tires installed but should turn off "after driving some". Actually, the 40 minute drive home it stayed on and then when I finally stopped and checked tire pressures, one of the new tires was about 3-4 psi soft. After filling that up the light did go off. So I was a bit shocked that not all the tires were inflated to TPMS and mfg requirements before I drove off. But overall yes I would recommend these guys. They seem to know what they are doing and appear to have a system that gets you in and out the door quickly. Oh and also, they work Saturday mornings!

By the way, there are no appointments available, which is a really bad business model for people who actually have other things to do or work or school. I understand there's a great demand for putting on snow tires as well as taking them off, but a combination of their working hours and taking no appointments really doesn't help the average person.

On September 20th 2024, I brought my 2007 Honda Fit to Steve to take a look at some service lights and a funny noise. He fully diagnosed it on the spot, told me I needed to bring it back for a new transmission and new brakes and that he'd call some parts companies and get back to me with an estimate. He never contacted me again. A few nights ago, 12/2/24 my engine started billowing smoke late in the evening and I emergently had my car towed to hometown after hours, thinking that as a loyal customer they may be able to get me in. Instead, I got a phone call from Steve telling me that they have never and will never work on Honda Fits, my car is blocking the plows (there is no snow) and that I need to bring it elsewhere. I asked for a recommendation, and he told me that no one will work on a Honda fit and he won't send me to one of his friends. I brought up the diagnostics he did, and he told me that when he did it "6 months or a year ago" (actual timeline = 10 weeks) that he did indeed call me back with prices, "or maybe left a message". So in one conversation he both admitted that he did work on my car and looked into parts but that he also has never worked on my car and won't in the future. I think I asked one more question and he told me my keys were in the cup holder and hung up on me. Great business, Steve!
