Was an early morning, a couple weeks ago, slightly overcast and wanted to place for a good cup of coffee with a friend who was visiting. Came on to this place, which was just down the block and came in the staff were friendly who was used to order and I ordered everything bagel with butter in a smooth espresso and vanilla latte. The service was prompt quick in the outdoor dining in the back area and the luscious guard was the best part of the whole adventure. This is an area that's well loved by the community and there's always a nice group of people socializing in the front in the back area is quite a fine, so I'll be going back here again for sure. read more

Came here because I saw the cute pictures of the patio online and wanted to check it out! The interior was very cute and service was fairly quick - there was a line forming but I got my order in a couple minutes. I ordered a lox bagel, breakfast croissant with bacon, toasted marshmallow latte, and matcha latte. After getting my food, I wandered to the back and it was GORGEOUS!! I could definitely see myself just sitting here with my kindle and reading for a little bit haha. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to sit and chill since I had some other plans for the rest of the day, but I would definitely come back whenever I decide to have a slow morning! read more

Been coming to this place for about a year, it's about time I show some love. Great staff, great food, , fresh juices & great prices! I used to only come for coffee . Then started trying more of their menu little by little. Now this is officially my "spot" Mon-Fri. My breakfast go to if the breakfast bagel but I sub the chorizo out for either turkey or pastrami, no up charge. Or if I'm feeling healthy I'll go for their fresh Green Detox juice. They remolded the back, go back there and relax on your lunch break or meeting . Super chill and cozy. Love this spot. read more

Double Shot Coffee is a cute neighborhood shop that offers juices and Java and smoothies and teas along w/ breakfast pastries of sorts. We were looking for a place just before a quick conference @theJewishHome. We ordered some tea milk lattes and the baristas delivered. Steamed almond milk and an early grey for me and steamed whole milk w/ 2 breakfast tea bags for boss. Easy peasy and we were off for conferencing. A ton of Shady looking places out here and none that I would recommend eating from, but this location stood out and was inviting because it was different and had healthy options. The clerk/food preparer or possibly owner was very sweet. Ordered the Chicken empanada and the carrot/orange juice and a breakfast bagel with sausage. The bagel was so soft and thin. I've never tasted a bagel like this in my life, so good. I loved that it wasn't overly thick and you bit into more bread than insides. Ample seating and outdoor seating, very relaxed. Cool environment. Glad to find this spot in the middle of everything else out there. read more

Just like my other review for the pie place, I do feel bad rating this place a 3/5. I was super excited to go in and get a coffee-something drink. I did not see anything new or interesting. I was expecting something extra, something to catch my eye. So I decided to try out their coffee. I was excited to see coffee labeled "Mexico" because I am always trying to find a coffee that tastes as good as the one I had on a trip to San Felipe. And then I was dismayed, horrified actually to find that I could only order pre-made coffee from the dispenser that was a blend, or a "House blend" as I called it. Never knew what that meant until today. But hey, could be something spectacular. So I ordered my coffee black. Coffee was OK. Better than what you would get at other places where coffee isn't really the main focus. I wish there was a way to get single origin coffee, but it's a trend with this area - they need to sell food fast. No time, staff, or place for individually-crafted drip coffee. I liked the mural. However, the coffee was affordable. $3.90 for a large. The area is a lot smaller than the pie place, so less welcoming. More of a place to grab-and-go. I'm really wavering between a 3 and a 4. I really wanted something to grab my interest and press that hyper active button in my brain. Oh well. And since the pie place owner didn't like my review, I will explain my reasoning more fully. 1. I've been to many mom n pop coffee shops. They have unique seating areas so people can practice coffee/cafe culture where you sit for hours and talk with friends over an AMAZING cup of coffee that when you take that first sip, your brain feels a tingle at the base and it works its way to the top of your head. Were it not for the high levels of caffeine, you would order more coffee. 2. The coffee choices: I want to see where my coffee is coming from and I want to be able to try different flavors. Like Philz, before it became a mega chain. But there are a lot of cool coffee shops in the Bay Area outside of SF that deliver. And maybe this is my prejudice, but if you're in SF, then I kinda expect something to live up to "SF". The mural is cool - it brings character, but I need something MORE from the menu. And maybe there is MORE for other people. But not for me. 3. Maybe I'm spoiled by my coffee I make at home. One bag of coffee for me is $7-15. I understand I'm paying for the convenience, and I definitely needed the coffee today. My go to is Dean's Beans because they offer bird-friendly coffee which uses beans grown under the canopy to promote habitats for migratory birds. On my visit, the coffee wasn't really making a case for itself. Better than McDonald's or Denny's, but not a cup where you take a sip and say, "No cream and sugar needed". So for me, this coffee shop is a 3/5. Maybe you'll enjoy it and you can support place that to its credit provided affordable coffee. The barista was friendly and quick. The place was clean. Yeah. But I won't make the trip up the peninsula for this place, I'm not going to tell my friends, "Hey, there is an AMAZING coffee shop you got to try out". Give me something to rave about and I'll rave. But I cannot inflate my rating because it wouldn't be honest. I have fond memories of other coffee shops and reminisce over cups of coffee. This one was forgettable. But yeah, if you find my pie review, it's the Pigeon that wins this round. If you're looking for a quick cup of coffee and you're tired of Starbucks, Blue Bottle, and Philz, this place serves coffee. read more

It was my first time here. The only employee who was a young lady was very friendly and nice . I ordered an Americano . The taste was ok . Taste of coffees are different. Next time I pick something else . They had variety of other hot and cold drinks, fresh juices, bagels and pastries. Right now I am on a specific diet and I can not eat everything but very soon after I'm ok with my food restrictions, I go and try their other stuff . They have a very nice quiet patio also . You can just go there, have a drink and relax . Parking is hard to find though. read more

Finally got go go to our neighborhood coffee shop. Got the Iced Rose Latte ($5 with tax/tips). It was tasty, quite sweet. However, it was logistically difficult to drink. The cup was filled completely to the lid and the straw opening was too tight. When I tried to insert the paper straw, a bunch of my latte spilled out, and also the straw quickly became mangled by the opening and disintegrated where it was being squeezed, making it hard to drink. read more

The specialty lattes are so fun, it's hard to choose. I settled on an horchata latte as an afternoon pick-me-up. If you have a sweet tooth, this is the drink for you--cinnamon sweet and delicious. The chocolate chip cookies are a little crunchy and they don't skimp on the chocolate chips. The barista was so friendly, and she tells me there's a patio in the back for people who want to enjoy their coffee sitting down. The place was sparkling clean, with lots of hand sanitizer and contactless payment options. Definitely worth a visit when you're in the Excelsior! read more

I just fell into this low-profile Excelsior coffee shop after eating a quick lunch at The Salad Place nearby (review: http://bit.ly/2HZKz9N). It was a perfectly reasonable spot for some caffeine as there were plenty of small tables to nurse a $4.25 Latte (photo: http://bit.ly/2jIdFw5). I only realized later that they offer eight variations on lattes on their menu, but the plain one was fine by me. They have the requisite baked goods in their display case (photo: http://bit.ly/2Il81Op) and a small sandwich menu just in case none of the neighboring taquerias don't suit your fancy. I guess they get their name from the automatic double shot they put into every espresso drink. This was one of my more economical reviews because why pontificate when you don't have to, right? I came here since I was waiting in the area. 3 stars for the latte. Extra star for good service. The barista/server was happy to let me know the most popular drinks here, the horchata and lavender latte. I'm not a fan of horchata and wasn't feeling adventurous enough to try the lavender so I went with the nutella latte with soy milk. Tasted like chocolate milk for adults. Could have used a slightly stronger taste of coffee. Plus for my latte coming out piping hot - some places don't make their drinks hot enough. New to this coffee spot and can say not too bad. The inside is very neat and clean. Menu is straightforward and simple. Ended up getting a hot mazapan latte w oatmilk which I would give a 8/10. The mazapan was not an overpowering peanut taste and the oatmilk being a compliment, making it a creamier texture. Also got an iced pistachio latte which I would I give a 6-7/10. Couldn't taste too much of the espresso, the flavor also had a floral taste to it. Overall, really nice place to get a good cup of coffee and would come back. I stopped here to grab breakfast ordered the strawberry smoothie and the breakfast bagel sandwich. They were both really good but especially the sandwich! I think they put it in a panini press so the outside had a bit of a crunch but the inside was soft. Delicious! The only downside was the paper straw made drinking my smoothie impossible after 5 minutes. I recommend that they get those plastic-like compostable straws that are much sturdier. Otherwise, the workers were nice and the mural was beautiful. Will definitely come again to try different different things on the menu! read more

Terrible service. After placing my order I was asked several times what I wanted(mind you I was sitting at my table). 20 minutes and an empty cafe later I get my bagel. Average. Another 15 minutes later and a finished bagel, I get my smoothie.......... More like an ICEE with pieces of unblended fruit. PURE ICE AND FRUIT! My sister orders a chicken sandwich; a good 30 minutes of waiting I finished eating and she gets her sandwhich with 7 pieces of large bulky lettuce and 3 pieces of what looks like costso salad chicken, along with a "smoothie" yet again a large piece of colored ice with a faint taste of fruit. This is a great neighborhood coffeehouse and a great addition to the Excelsior. Great sandwiches and pastries and, of course, espresso served by a great and friendly staff. Funny thing about finding this place. I had just finished up at the Auto-Zone and wanted espresso. I pull out yelp app and do a search. Nothing new turned up and I thought I would walk a couple blocks to my favorites. Seriously, I'm standing right across the street from it and it doesn't appear in the search results!
