Just moved back here and my son lives here and neither knew this place existed. Looks like bad reviews from yrs ago but I am telling you, THE BEST BURGER JOINT IN VALLEY! It IS a dive bar so expect that but they grind their own beef, hand cut fries, make own sauces etc. Fries were best I've had in town. Onion rings best I've had and the Kobe Smash burger phenomenal. Gotta try 'stuffed' next time. Staff was great but it was empty so service great. Maybe they've improved on nights there's events at Knitting Factory but might want to try when not fighting concert crowd . The hamburger meter was pegged at 100 when I finished my recent meal at Double Tap. THIS is the the best burger in the Treasure Valley. 1/2 pound of beef which has been stuffed with some of the add-ons you choose, like cheese. Customers order by marking a laminated selection menu that has too many choices to put in this review. The combinations are overwhelming, but you actually can design the perfect burger for yourself. My partner in crime chose a chicken Caesar wrap and said the chicken & the sauce was the best she had ever had in her long life. This review would not be complete unless I mentioned their fresh cut Idaho potatoes that they use for their "to die for" fries. We once made a meal of just their garlic fries and drink twofers. Drinking twofers is helpful to the wallet. The food cost was also easy on the budget. This is our new pre-game warm up spot before the Idaho Steelheads hockey games - only 1 1/2 blocks away from the arena - stumbling distance. The only downside is the length of time it takes to make the food. Plan on a slow paced meal. It wasn't a problem for us to gear down a bit to get the great quality from this kitchen. The inside is a normal divey sports bar with wide screens everywhere along with sports memorabilia. Booth, table and the bartop support the customers. During better weather months there is a very nice patio area. There is metered street parking but most folks opt for ParkBoi parking facilities, because we would not want the city of Boise to miss out on draining the last drop of blood from visitors and residents. I asked for fried chicken and it was delicious. 4/5 - Chicken Quesadilla: These were pretty good with a side of guacamole, sour cream, and salsa. 4/5 - X-Wings in mango habanero sauce: the chicken were huge and a little on the dry side. It came with a side of fries which were okay. 3/5 SERVICE: Fast and friendly enough. Somehow we got 2 orders of quesadillas so we took it home with us which was kinda annoying since we had to take the food back to the hotel so the food wouldn't spoil. Also we had limited space in the hotel's mini fridge. It tasted good though. 3.5/5 FINAL THOUGHTS: We would come back. The food was pretty good and the vibe was fun. read more

Nice dive bar in Boise, owned by a Veteran. Quite a few TVs in the pub. Two bars with taps, so the double tap moniker. There is another meaning that I won't discuss here. Food was pretty good, I'm more partial to crispy fries, but these were good none the less. Tuesdays and Thursdays are 1/2 price beers. The beef sandwich was good, and you get to order it any way you want on the menu card with a pen. The sandwich was good, with all the toppings I asked for. Beef seemed a little skimpy, but these days, it is expected. All in all, a good dining experience. I've been here 4 or 5 times since I've been in Idaho. read more

This is my favorite bar in Idaho. The drinks are good, the food is good, the service is amazing, and I just love the atmosphere. I love to sit and watch sports here, since many other fans do too and it feels like a community. All of the bartenders are so kind, helpful and attentive. Popped in here for dinner before going to a concert at the Treefort Music Hall in Bodo. The food menu is pretty basic, but the Chicken Caesar Wrap with fries was really good. I'm giving the pub five stars for the outstanding service. Both the young women who served our food and drinks were friendly, attentive, and awesomely on point. Right now, with a lot of restaurants and bars having to settle for untrained or mediocre and lackluster staff, it was great to be someplace where the customer service was shining through. My wife and I came here for our early dinner on April 10th before a concert at the Knitting Factory. We both ordered a beer and the Kobe Beef burger. The burger was huge and delicious! Definitely was not expecting the burger to be stuffed with the goodies I requested; nice touch! Definitely sets the food apart from other pubs! The homemade mango habanero sauce I had on my burger was fire, perfect balance of sweetness and spice! The beer was great too! Service was great; the waitress answered our questions and was very attentive! I initially meant to visit another pub a few doors down to watch the Super Bowl game, but they didn't have any special activities planned and they were even closed by the time the game finished :-( However, the bartender from that pub recommended Double Tap, and she made a good recommendation. The staff were all very friendly and outgoing, and they made you feel welcomed and treated you like a regular, even though it was my first time there... Especially Dallas, who has been attentive and helpful the entire night despite being fairly busy. The nachos were humungous; the small order is a meal in itself, and it took me the whole game to finish it (but then again I was still full from lunch)! read more

It used to be much better. Returned after a 6 month reprive as it wasn't great last time. With only 8 other people already in the joint, it took a loooong time to get a drink order. It was pretty obvious when I walked in- so I didnt see ya is weak. "Do I go up there?" Bartender just chit chatting with friends at the bar instead of serving tables - seemed more like coworkers infighting instead of service. The cook took my food order. Food was good but the same is widely available elsewhere for $ame, less or a better place. Weak mixed drink. More like a soda. My standard drink- I know what it should taste like. For a place that was (claims to be) a military bar- at least display the American flag correctly. Dang! And how many grunts have just ignored it? Owners probably taking their "automatic audience" for granted. The proximity to the Knitting Factory makes an obvious customer pool and pays the bills. But this could be on the short list of departing owners. Visit while you still can, if you like low service. Restaurants is a tough business. read more

We dined here before the Hells Belles concert at The Knitt a week ago. This is typically one of our regular weekend stops. We received an alert from our credit card the following Monday to verify if we left an over 100% tip....we did NOT. The server changed out receipt. The past couple of weeks we have noticed a change in staff and are not happy with the new evening crew. We were here again this past Friday night and the crew was not welcoming. Bring back the old staff please. They are welcoming and don't change the receipts to give themselves a larger tip!!! We will go elsewhere for a while and see if this place can figure things out. read more

I'm visiting Boise for work and my hotel recommended this place. Great dive pub! Definitely has that dive bar kinda feel to it, but good selection of beers on tap, good burgers that have the veggies and cheese cooked inside the burger. I had the elk burger w a local IPA. Drew took great care of me while I ate and hung around for a while to catch up on work. I definitely recommend but just know that's it's a down to earth kind of place - not fancy and frilly like other "pubs" sometimes are. read more

I have been waiting for food for over an hour. We keep getting parts of our order. When we arrived at 5:30, it wasn't busy at all. My husbands band was playing a show over at the Knitting Factory and they wanted something to eat. We placed an order consisting of: 2 cheeseburgers plain with fry sauce 2 turkey sandwiches on sliced bread with only mayo 2 chicken wraps The order wasn't completed until almost 1 hour and 20 minutes after arrival. It was seriously insane. Needless to say, our warm food arrived cold and the food that should have been cold was placed in the same boxes as French fries and so there was an insane amount of grease on the bottom. When I had about 75% of the order they were telling people who were coming in that they would have at least an hour wait for food. Overall, I was totally unimpressed by the quality of the food that we received for the price we paid. A burger ran $12 and was flavorless. Another band mentioned to me at the end of the show that it took over 90 minutes to get 2 pounds of wings. I would not come here again. While I realize that they have a small kitchen and only 2 people working, communication would have been very appreciated especially since we did let the server know that we had to be out with the food within 30 minutes and she said it was no problem. read more

The other reviews are right... the food here is amazing, the service is abysmal. We sat down, received beers right away and asked for food menus. You fill in your menu to order- which we did- and then proceeded to wait about... 15 minutes for someone to come back and take our menus. In that time, our waiter walked past our table no less than 3 times, and wasn't the one who ended up taking our order. Our food came out in a decent amount of time- the burgers are so big! They are also delicious; well balanced, and not at all dry. The fries were hot and delicious. I like mine a little more crispy, but my fiancé doesn't. They were good either way. After we received our food, no one ever came back to check on us. We finished our beers about halfway through the meal, they were never refilled. We finished our food, and sat and waited, and waited, and waited... as our server walked by our table several times, and noticed more than once that we were finished. Finally, I walked to the bar, where Bree was hustling to get drinks out. I asked her for our check and a box when she got a minute. She got us both in a timely manner and had us double check our tab before she ran the card. She is awesome! The other staff were inadequate and complacent. I don't know if I would return. The food was definitely worthy, but the service really marred the overall experience. read more

Awesome place. KC is a super welcoming person. She recommended the burger and I'm glad she did. One of the best burgers I've had. Theo is an amazing cook. Not only that. But he and KC went out of their way to make sure I had what I wanted even if it wasn't on the menu. I wanted garlic fries. They were not on the menu. But Theo and KC refused to take no for an answer and Theo put together his own little recipe for garlic fries to make sure I had what I wanted And let me tell you. Theo's garlic fries where some of the best I ever had. I'm from California and I'm the next time I'm come to Idaho. I expect to see Theo's Garlic fries on the menu. There is so much that I love about my trip to Boise but this little hole in the wall bar was absolutely one of the best! I was greeted immediately by a welcoming bartender and sat down right away and felt like I was home away from home. I was given the first-class service, granted it was not a busy time, but I felt like the folks helping me were really good at what they do. If I could give zero stars I would. On multiple occasions I've waiting 20+ minutes to even get a drink. When I get my cocktail it is usually watered down. A friend of mine ordered a Bloody Mary once and it barely contained any alcohol. We literally watched the bartender add water to her drink! When we brought it up, she said "that's how we serve our vodka , from the gun". Literally writing this review as I am waiting to even be looked at, 23 minutes and counting. Decided try this place out for first Thursday and we made a mistake. This review is purely based on the dining experience. To start of with the high top tables were very unstable. I know my parents taught me not to lean my elbows on the dinner table, but I'm a lazy adult now. Then we get to the $3 beers for first Thursday. Waiter didn't tell us what was on tap so we made a decision based off the tap handles we could see. When the beers were served, they weren't ice cold. Finally, we get to the food. Ordering was your normal experience at a bar. It took a little bit for the bartender get back, but I expect that at a bar. The first issue we experienced was the onion rings were ok, but lacked seasoning and the basket was as soaking in fry oil. The next issue was the 40 minute wait to get two basic burgers and fries. When the orders came out the lettuce wrapped one came on a bun. When it was brought back it came on two pieces of romaine lettuce. This was not a great option if you wanted to eat it like a burger. Then we get to the burger patties which were under whelming. As you picked it up the burger it fell apart in chunks, as the cheese and veggies are formed in the burger. The meat wasn't seasoned and tasted like ground meat patties you buy in the 10 pack at a grocery store. The fries weren't bad with good seasoning, but were a little cold. Was at the weekend Art in thenpark. Came in here to grab beer because White Dog didn't have any dark beer on tap. The waitress was nice and did what she could. However if I were the owner I'd suggest staffing more servers during big events. A large group came in and 1 server isn't enough to cover everyones needs. The beer was okay. I'm moving on to another pub after my group finishes their quesadilla. Food here was also standard pub fare .. nothing special. read more

Great burgers here. If Mickey D's isn't your forte and you like the real thing come here. It's easily a double burger anywhere else. Didn't think I'd make it but it was so good I couldn't help it. They don't have bottomless fries here like 5 guys or Red Robin but they make up for it when you get your custom burger. This is my new place when I'm wanting a big one to eat. I picked Kobe beef for mine. Beer selection could be a bit better but it's better than some in town. See why they named it Double Tap here it's double everything. Cool staff and sports on the tube.
