I CALL SHENANIGANS! The ratings have been changed. I have two big problems with this DoubleDave's, and now another with Yelp. While I was searching for pizza options for lunch today I notice that this Double Dave's has purchased an AD and is now the top choice when searching pizza in Austin. I have no problem with stores buying ADs, what is fishy is that at the same time their rating is much higher. I noticed that what has happened is that the reviews for the old location (the one that was located on Brodie) have been combined with this location, despite the fact that they originally had two separate yelp pages (and the old location had a "closed" page). Almost all of the high reviews are written about the business at its old location when they had a buffet. I also find it odd that the newest 4 star reviews are all people that have less then 4 reviews, but that could be a coincidence and I hope it is nothing more. My other problem with this location is of course the lack of buffet, but worse then that is they are the most expensive Double Daves in the whole Austin area. You can go to double dave's websites and view the individual prices of each double dave's. Their are 8 locations of Double Dave's, this is the only location with no buffet, and also the most expensive of all locations. For example, a large pizza here is $12.99. The next closest is the Round Rock location (which has a buffet) at $11.99. All the other locations are $10.99 or $9.99. The same is true for every item on the menu from the cost of toppings to the price for beverages. To be fair, the cinnamonstyks are the same price. Their is a Simply inexcusable. Is it odd to write such a review for a simple pizza place? Perhaps. I just have loved double daves every since I use to skip class in high school to eat at the one in Dallas off the tollway (since closed) and felt something needed to be said. Try one of the other locations for all you pizza rolls and buffalo chicken pizza goodness. read more

My review for DoubleDave's only applies to this location as they recently moved and changed the menu. Gone is the pizza buffet that brought everyone there during lunchtime. The owner gave lots of explanation about food costs and needing to raise the price of the buffet to $11, you now get fresh cooked pizza, it's a great value, etc., etc. I'm sorry, but I don't buy it. Nobody else in town has to charge $11 for pizza, and there are other things that could have been done to mitigate the price like removing some of the more expensive buffet items. Since we were meeting up with someone else, we ended up staying and ordering off the menu. A slice of pizza - which was decent in size - was $3.99. Not exactly the great value we were promised. The pepperoni rolls were $1.25/each, but they were also smaller than the usual rolls you'd find on the menu. That being said, the slice of pizza was good. Unfortunately, I won't be going here anymore. DoubleDave's has pretty good pizza, but it's not up to compete with the more upscale pizza joints by ordering solely off the menu. It's the owner's decision, of course, to do what he wants, but while we were there I saw about half of the people who came in walk right back out after being informed there's no buffet. Best thin crust pizza's in Southwest Austin. I love their salad bar - lots of choices. They feature local micro-brewery beers, as well, which is how I enjoy waiting for my pizza to be prepared and cooked just short of burn - the way I like them. You don't need a fork - you can pick-up the slices and hold them in your hand without anything falling off or too much cheese. Perfect balance of fresh and flavorful ingredients and a fun staff. This is my first choice for pizza. read more

Wow. Paid a premium price for a large pizza (Sunday night dinner for my family), waited nearly an hour for delivery, and found the pizza so undercooked the dough was mostly raw. The staff and manager (Matt) apparently didn't give a shit and offered no apology whatsoever. Although they did refund my money when I requested it (because it was late and they could not even tell me when I might expect a replacement), they were surly and acted as though it was I who had inconvenienced them. Call me old fashioned, but as a paying customer I expect an apology and not attitude when your kitchen sends out raw food for my family to consume. They even had the gall to ask if I would prefer to keep the raw pizza instead of receiving a refund or replacement. For shame! Stay classy Double Dave's, you just lost a customer for good. read more

The only reason I give this trip 2 stars is the beer was cold. When I told the employee at 7:00 pm that the Romain on their salad bar was all turning brown he mumbled something about end of the night, they close at 10. Placing a hand above the salad bar, I know REAL SCIENTIFIC, it seemed not to be cold enough as most of the other items were not crisp. I also ordered an individual Philly cheesecake stromboli cut into 3 pieces... came cut in half. Not a big deal but the gentleman who appears to be the manager or shift leader needs to pay more attention prep directions because it's not the first time cut requests were not done. read more

Double Dave's has been cooking up pizzas and pepperoni rolls since 1984. They claim to be the originator of the pepperoni roll and the Philly Cheese-steak stromboli, on this day we were not there to try either though. We checked in for lunch, they had a great 2 buffets and a pitcher of beer deal for $20, but again we were not there for that either. I ordered a medium pizza half cheese, half pepperoni with a couple of sodas. As we sat down the cashier comes over and asks if I had ever tried the pepperoni rolls or the Philly cheese-steak stromboli, I told him it was our first time there, maybe next time. He walked over to the buffet and stole us a piece of each to try with their house made ranch. I am not one for ranch but he was offering so I had to try. The pepperoni roll was actually really good, good flavor on the pepperoni and provolone cheese, the ranch tasted like ranch and doesn't belong near pizza but again it was a nice gesture. The Philly cheese steak was a little over seasoned but the steak was legit. Just as we were finishing, our pizza came to the table. I was quickly reminded of Chuck E Cheese with the pan it came in. The crust was rolled to death, to the point where there was no more gas in the dough, they had to fold the over rolled dough over to fit the pan and make a flappy crust which was pretty funny looking. The sauce was just your typical over seasoned sauce that stole the flavor from the simple pizza they were making. The cheese was killed by the sauce and the pepperoni was a little spicy but had good flavor. Double Dave's is a good cheap place for families and college kids but overall was below average. Check out the daily specials, some days they have some great discounts on the pepperoni rolls and stromboli's. Two words: Pepperoni Rolls!! I love pepperoni rolls. Double Dave's is my benchmark in pepperoni rolls. And the best pepperoni rolls I've ever had came from this location. Splendiferous! Confession of my guilty pleasure: about once or twice a year, I love to indulge in some Double Dave's lunch buffet pizza action (actually, just about the only time I have DD's is their lunch buffet). It's not so much the pizza I'm after, but the hot and fresh pepperoni rolls. Their pizza is good too, as are their cheese sticks. They even have some sort of whole wheat crust now! And they are good about taking requests for pizza to put on the buffet. And what makes this indulgent treat even sweeter is that if you live in the neighborhood, you will often receive in the mail coupons for buy-one-get-one-free lunch buffet. One of my greatest weaknesses is a ooey, gooey pizza. I don't mean that in a bad way. Nooo - the deep pan crust is just undercooked to perfection, the cheese is thick and kinda bubbly. Double Dave's satisfies my weakness. If you're a family out for a meal, come on by. Friendly, goofy waitstaff will happily take your order. If you're the kind to imbibe, they have a decent (20 maybe) selection of bottled beers. Catch the game - whatever game is on - on the smaller screens. Normally futbol is playing on the big screen. Again. Nothing special, but my son really likes the old games they have like Pac Man and Pin Ball. Got the usual - veggie pizza and cordon bleu sandwich. All of our food came. No sandwich. Waited incase it was still coming. Waited 5 minutes. I finally said something. The man stated that I didn't order the sandwich. I politely said I did. He corrected me again. I found our receipt. We love their pepperoni pizza. The price is very reasonable, in fact inexpensive considering the quality of the pizza. And what is special is that the employees are always courteous. The only reason I haven't given a five is because we haven't tried any pizza other than pepperoni. Tuesday nights the pepperoni rolls are only $1 each. They are good, just not as good as the pizza. And they always have a dark beer, e.g. porter, which most places do not. read more

What can I say, it's DoubleDaves. The pepperoni rolls are the bomb. Others have imitated them but none are as good. THIS is the reason to get fat at DoubleDaves! The stromboli is also really good. The pizza is mediocre but they do have some pretty great monthly special pizzas. These guys have perfected the art of a pepperoni roll. I am not kidding here folks, these are the best rolls I've had. Now my experience in pepperoni rolls is limited, but the truth of the matter is that you will grab a second one, unless your a vegetarian. IN which case, they have 4 cheese rolls as well so you are good to GO! What you guys might not know, is that if you order online you can receive some discounts, which is always cool. Earlier this month, I placed my first DoubleDave's order online. The process was easy, and pickup was seamless. Everything was ready before I arrived. I chose this location because it scored a 97 on its most recent health inspection (6-28-2016). In person, the main area looks clean. I don't know about the restrooms, though. Notably, the glass doors opened up to a welcoming environment with an exposed kitchen and a diverse group of diners enjoying their pizza. I noticed that the cashier rings a large bell whenever someone puts money into the tip jar. The staff then hollers in unison. Work environment seems to be quite lively and healthy. They did, however, forget to give me the blue cheese sauce I ordered--which is fine. I overlooked it because this particular DoubleDave's seems to be doing a commendable job. read more

I went to Double Dave's for the first time since the 90's and I was partially positively and negatively surprised. The positive was the salad bar at this restaurant is a decent. The negative was the ranch dressing was not freshly prepared. The best and most memorable thing aboutDouble Dave is dipping the pepperoni roll in fresh house ranch dressing. The ranch dressing just tasted awful and out of the bottle. They have a restaurant made buffalo ranch but it is too strong to use with pepperoni rolls. I'm very disappointed where this place has gone. $25 for a large BBQ pizza and $5 for an ice tea? This is gourmet pricing for subpar pizza and a bottle of tea. I'm also disappointed that you still have the inside closed dispute the rest of the worked getting back to normal. This was a pretty good pizza experience. The veggie pizza my wife ordered was really good and was on wheat dough. The other pizza we ordered was a two toppings pizza on regular crust. It was really good as well. The restaurant was very busy and we took out pizzas home. read more

I had written a pretty lengthy review for the Brodie location of this Double Daves Pizzaworks. I'm amending it. After seeing that the NEW location has a ONE STAR YELP AVERAGE, I felt a little pained on their behalf. It's unfairly low- though I'll be the first to concede the point that DoubleDaves without the Pizza Buffet is NOT the DoubleDaves most people know and love. I knocked a star off my earlier 4-Star review for that reason. Let's talk fairly about the PROS and CONS of this new location. PROS - The PEPRONI ROLLS remain the chief draw- and taste as good as they always did. - LESS CROWDED. (Sad for them, but I remember far too many Saturdays while I and my family stood around waiting for a dirty table to be freed up... And unfortunately, most of the regulars of the lunch buffet weren't exactly brisk diners. How can you be when you're turning a buffet into a Seven Course meal?) - The New location is FAR CLEANER than the old one was. (While it sucks for there to be no buffet, let's be honest... The old location on busy days was like a feeding trough - and some customers we such messy eaters that they'd get pizza, sauce, cheese, beer, and salad dressing all over their chairs, tables, the floors, and booths. I'm not nostalgic for the days when I'd find smears of Ranch Dressing on the buttcrack of my jeans from sitting accidentally on some slob's spillage.) - PINBALL and GALAGA! (Yeah, anything that can keep the kids distracted while grown-ups chat is a plus.) - CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE PIZZA. (You'll hate yourself after you eat it, and you'll get the transfat shiny face for hours- but dang, it's still so GOOD.) - A nice, LAID-BACK ATMOSPHERE. - A mostly FRIENDLY STAFF. (It seems to be mostly the same crew as at the old location- and they're all totally riding the mellow. Which was, for me at least, reminds me of the campus location and that simpler era.) CONS - NO PIZZA BUFFET! - SERIOUSLY, DOUBLEDAVE'S WITHOUT A PIZZA BUFFET?! - PRICES - Yes, they've gone up. In some cases, A LOT! And there's no prices on the wall menu- which is an especially questionable practice. (One assumes the Manager is aiming for lower-revenues, higher-margins- but it must be said, THIS ISN'T PREMIUM PIZZA, NOR IS THE ENVIRONMENT A PREMIUM DINING EXPERIENCE. It's a CASUAL HANGOUT JOINT in a strip center. My earlier review waxed nostalgic about the overall DoubleDave's experience. I'll spare you that here. The absence of the buffet does diminish the dining experience- and honestly, I've dragged my kids to the campus location on occasion when I wanted a little more out of the dining than the Arbor Trails location can offer. The kids now call the campus location "Super DoubleDave's", and sadly, I can't exactly blame them. read more

I get pizza rolls here because it is nearby and there is a shortage of fast food nearby that my kid will eat. The food is ok. I am a polite person. I am not the kind f person to leave unhappy reviews. I understand that things can get backed up. I can understand that I am going to wait awhile for pizza-related food items. So I place my order online and go to pick up after half an hour. I am told my pizza rolls will be ready in 25 minutes. I am ok with that. The place is crowded. It is Friday. I can wait. So I go to the restroom and sit down to wait. My 25 minutes passes. I am patient. It is Friday and it is crowded. I wait. I wait I wait. I wait. Cobwebs are growing on me. The room starts to empty out. It dawns on me that "something is wrong" I go up to ask where my pizza rolls are. They are right there- in a delivery bag. I say "how long have these been here?" Instead of "Oh, I am so sorry. We put these here by accident." or "Oh I am so sorry, we called your name but you didn't answer," (both of which answers I would have understood), I get a smarmy tone and a "we CALLED your name several times." and now the back story- this is NOT the FIRST TIME this same thing has happened to me. This has happened to me twice before. And i see it happened to Michelle M as well) No. I did not write a YELP after the first time. Nor even after the second time. But this place suffers from disorganization and a poor attitude towards your customers. I came home and threw your marginal product in the trash. Good riddance. Just had a bad experience at DD. We called ahead and were told over the phone that they had gluten free pizza. We ordered for several people and sat down. Then an employee came out and told us that none of their ingredients were Gluten free. I asked why they said they had Gluten free if they can't make gluten free. I understand cross contamination and that was not it. The employee (male) who was trying to be helpful just had no idea about gluten went to look at a chart on the wall. I could then hear a few lady's laughing about "why would someone eat out if they had an allergy" turns out it was the "manager" a female with lips pierced and another female employee. The manager then argued about returning all my money. She them did with a crappy attitude. I am surprised how bad her attitude was. The manager kept telling telling me that " all cheese has gluten in it and they can't carry specialty cheeses just for us. " This is an example of no food training. All they guys had a good attitude and were trying to be helpful. Train your people. read more

I did switch my rating to two stars, because they were nice enough, and did mostly give me what I ordered (minus the extra cheese). So let's just suffice it to say that Double Dave's is the worst pizza sold in Texas. And it is expensive. I mean you can get a decent pizza for $5, you know where. i do like double dave's pizza. but it's a bit pricey as well. i will, once in a while splurge to get dd's when there's also a great coupon. i wouldn't mind eating more of their buffet if pizza didn't always give us heartburn. and with a costco just right around their corner, costco is taking away my pizza business from them. i know, i know, support locals. i do my share of that with dog food @ tomlinson's and austin scoops. but dd pizza is good. i love their dough! read more
