Finally got the high score on Tapper

Up-Down is the coolest arcade bar! I love this place. They have every old arcade game imaginable. Including pinball and ski ball which are usually big hits lol. And the games are usually all working too! It's amazing. They also have the Nintendo 64 out for people to play. It's also pretty cheap. They usually have great deals on the token prices and we always have left over tokens. And they have the best pizza by the slice. The slides are hugeeeee and delicious!!! There's also a patio with a couple yard games. And even an upstairs outside! There's virtually no parking though so you have to park a few streets away and walk. Have been coming here for years and it's a great spot to take any friends from out of town. Vibes and aesthetic are on point.

Super fun! If you're into retro arcade games, this is the place. It's 21+ at all times and they have somebody sitting inside the door to card you as soon as you walk in. At the bar, you can order all kinds of drinks as well as order tokens instead of paying the withdrawal fee at the atm. Each game takes 1 token or 1 quarter. Also, if you check their website, they might have themed nights. We just so happened to go on Mar10 night so all Mario games were free and there was a Mario cart race for prizes. At the back of the building, you can order pizza, either by the slice or a whole pie. Prices are reasonable and the slices looked huge. Bartending staff was nice and chatty. Staff also walk around taking drink orders as well. All but one of the basketball games were working so they take great care of all the machines! Highly recommend for a fun time to relax, play games, and drink.

This is such a fun spot that brings more than just a great happy hour! We ordered a Mona Lisa pizza and even our picky eaters liked it. The games are so much fun and there always seems to be a deal on tokens. Tokens were ten cents the night we were there! I also liked the game variety and the options for games with multiple players. Definitely worth a stop if you are looking for something fun and different!

Visiting Kansas City and decided to explore the downtown area. We stumbled upon this cool establishment and decided to give it a try. The unique theme makes this place inviting! Arcade games, decent drinks, and also outdoor views of the city really make this a trendy spot. Overall pretty good!

It's an adult gamer's paradise. Arcade and video games in all directions, upstairs and downstairs. Same goes for the bar counters. Everybody looked like they were having a great time. If you're not really into games, the patios on both levels offer wide open spaces to sit and hang out. You will also get better lighting outside too. I spent a good chunk of my time on the upstairs patio, marveling at the Kansas City skyline. This was probably the most happening place in Crossroads on a warm weekend night. It was also the night of the first pre-season Chiefs game. I had one drink, a cherry cider, that was a straight $7 because I paid in cash. I came after dinner at Town Topic, so I was too full for pizza. I wanted to try a slice of bacon mac n'cheese so bad!

This was my first time I'd ever been to Up-Down and it will not be the last!!!! It's 2 levels, so there's plenty of room for everyone! So many bars, games, and I think the best part was the pizza. When I tell you I was not expecting their BBQ chicken pizza to be so good!!! Definitely now in my top 3 pizza places in KC! The bar tenders are all so sweet and work at a brisk pace so you'll never have to wait on a refill. A night where it's a beautiful breezy night and you can share pizza and watch the cars roll by is a night for me! 10/10!

This place is fun!!!! Good spot to go on a date or with a larger group of friends! It's super chill, plays good music, has great arcade games, and is a venue to kick it. Bartenders are friendly and make good drinks. Pizza is also delicious!!!

Perfect for a date night or time out with friends. So many games to play and the pizza is amazing. Check out the deal of the day before you go. We went Friday and got some free coins for being one of the first 100 people.

Came here for a couple of hours, right after they opened with a group of three. On this particular day it was $1 off local beers. An expansive space inside and outside with plenty of staff to help with anything you needed. All games were a quarter and most were either pinball games or older games from my youth. The upstairs deck is a really a cool spot when you are not playing any games and just want to chill on a nice day. I'd recommend this place, especially for a date night out with groups. Enjoy!

Came here as a "surprise" after trying to find anywhere where I'm staying that had to do with pinball. Up-Down is a Gen X wet dream as we all grew up as young teens in the 80s right at the start of the arcade of awesomeness with games like Pac-Man , Donkey Kong, Centipede, Q-Bert, Burgertime, and so many others. The ones I just mentioned are here! And they work! The facility is dimly lit and has all our great music blasting. Full bar, and pizza on order. Daily specials. The games are all a quarter, but on Thursdays you can get 20 for $2 at the bar, so only $.10 a game which is a great deal. They also have skee-ball, basketball shooters, and did I mention at least 10 pinball machines? In-Out was so much f-ing fun for a good couple of hours. My mixed drink sucked, but the beer was good. Saw enough staff cleaning the machines and running the show. My brother and I also got carded even though I could have been the guy's dad. I believe it's adults only here. When we finally left, the place was starting to get full and you could tell that the groups were really having a good time. Highly recommended.

Great place to go have drinks and play some games. They have a nice rooftop and outdoor area. If you're hungry grab a slice of pizza, you won't be disappointed! Also, check out their daily specials! They have some great deals. Follow me @zeroforkzgiven for more fun photos and videos!

So we loaded up and showed up one day around Noon. Ambiance was really cool. It's in the middle of some sort of progressive looking shanty-esque suburb. The kind of place that does drag queen bingo. I was right at home. Inside was college sport bar, but with a nice, huge board on the wall of all their beer selection. It Was quite expansive. Service was top notch, too. Nice server took care of us, made sure our glasses were never empty. The food came out at a good clips, and we got an unexpected bonus of free little beignet-like donuts with some delicious dipping sauces. As for food, we started off with a jumbo order of the Truffle Parmesan Hand-Cut Fries for the table. We got to choose two from their extensive list of aioli dipping sauces. Fries were good. Dusted with the perfect amounts of truffle and parmesan. And the sauces were my oh my. I recommend paying the upcharge to just try them all. I mentioned the time earlier, because we had no idea we were stumbling upon their brunch menu. Even more options to choose from! I got the Crispy Waffle Smash Burger (smashed hertzog beef patties, fried egg, smoked bacon, merkt's cheddar, caramelized onion, maple aioli, crispy buttermilk waffle). This thing was really nice. Perfect waffle, not too small, not too big, and no oily or anything obtrusive. A nice bun option. Eggs and bacon sometime get lost against giant burger patties, but with these smash patties, the extra accoutrements really stand out and make this burger really stand out in my mind. I also for the try the Smokestack Burger (smoked burnt ends, smoked gouda, whiskey bbq glaze, pickle relish, chipotle aioli & crispy jalapeño straws). Uhhh, as you can read, this thing was loaded with goodness. Fatty burger, smokey burnt ends, sweet boozy glaze, acidic pickles, and texture from that jalapeno. This was the perfect burger. I insist you order this. Overall, my research did not reveal Beer Kitchen to me, locals recommendation did. Shows that you gotta use your street smarts instead of your book smarts sometimes. Best meal I had in Kansas City.

The service manager saw us eyeballing the menu on the board and answered out questions, then invited us in. My family of four was sat in a booth in the middle of the restaurant with good visibility around the entire establishment. Ambiance was good, considering that its not inherently a family place. Old tap pulls adorn the ceiling and the light is just bright enough to not strain your eyes, but not so bright that there is glare off every surface. I ordered a cowboy coffee (espresso with tequila, very interesting) and a waffle smash burger sandwich. The table got fries as an appetizer and some kind of fried donut thing that I could have sworn was a Zeppole. As always, let's start with what was good... The appetizers were very good. The dips on the fries were both amazingly good. So much so that I used them on my side of fries after the kids ate all the ones in the basket. The waffle smash burger had a good flavor considering I had never paired a waffle with beef. Prices were agreeable for Westport, but its Westport so there is a slight premium. Servers were pretty much everywhere, so it was never too long for any request we had to be taken care of. On the flip side of that, there was a server doing side work dead center of the restaurant which was kind of awkward. I am used to seeing side work done in somewhere inconspicuous so it was just a little odd, but not off putting. Now let's look at the things that could be better... The dipping sauces for the Zeppole were not thick enough to actually stick to the delicious treat. The berry sauce really needed to be reduced further because it was too thin by far. Delicious, but thin. My waffle for the smashburger sandwich was too oily by far. I think this may have been an intentional choice considering that the waffle serves as the "bun" for the sandwich and maybe the oil was an attempt to keep the juice from the burger and the sauces from turning the waffle into mush. It worked... but it did take away from the flavor by obscuring the taste of the waffle itself. My egg was cooked to specification, so that's a win, but my partner's egg was overcooked. Consistency! Very important and yet not guaranteed, I think. The biggest problem I have with the brunch at Beer Kitchen though isn't the food, but the menu itself. There is not any way to construct a decently priced "simple breakfast." If you're not that hungry, or adventurous, you may find the menu difficult to contend with. I would consider adding something like "the Oldtimer" and have it be two eggs, a meat, toast, and fruit. Price it at 13.99 and leave it alone. Overall, the Beer Kitchen is a nice little brunch spot. So much so that we intend on making it a semi-frequent stop for us on days when the kids want to venture down towards the Plaza. 4 stars. Has room for improvement but is a solid experience for what you pay.

I come here because it is convenient, always has been for me and now even more so because of the streetcar and because of the self serve beer wall. If that intimidates you don't fret because there is a full bar and some taps behind the bar the bartenders can serve you from. Sometimes I choose to do this because the beer wall can get pricey quickly but, it's a novel and fun concept that works for downtown. The food though I feel is overpriced, like why am I paying $15 for tots that are barely topped with toppings and really aren't even a sizable portion? Last time I was here to watch the Chiefs game I ordered the Rueben Tots expecting a fun pile of classic Rueben sandwich components on top of hot crispy greasy tots instead what I received was a small mound of stringy corned beef and a slice of melted Swiss cheese and a dismal drizzle of thousand island. I had to ask for more sauce on the side because it just wasn't enough for the amount of tots. If these would have been between $10-$12 maybe I would have let it slide and this review would have been different but for $15 I just wasn't too happy. Also, another note the menu online has absolutely no descriptions whatsoever so, if you're trying to place a pickup order good luck knowing what you're actually ordering. This could be an easy fix. The service is okay but sometimes it feels like you have to chase down the wait staff or just walk up to the bar to get another drink or ask for a menu. I'm sure happy hour is fine here but I haven't been for years so, I'm not sure if the prices have gone up for that too. Will I be back? Well yes but, I'll definitely order something different from the menu then the last time around. Maybe 4 sliders for $15 is a better way to go? Because I've also gotten the Rueben sandwich here before for $15 and I felt like it was sparse and the meat was lacking. I do believe they have a pretty good burger deal on Monday unless that has changed.
