In the midst of pregnancy, I have done from zero cravings to craving things I have craved zero times. I figured it gives me a great advantage to review places I never thought to visit. The first, and most revisited, is Doughboys. I do not consider myself an expert but their sugar donuts are more times than not, still warm, the sugar is light and fresh and the dough has the perfect fluffy texture. It's my go-to, hands down. The glazed are delicious as well, for those of you who like the sugar flavor with a little more slight candied crunch to it. They are a great for a little richer stickier experience. Last, I'll touch on the maples and Bavarian creme. I'm still a fan, but they are more run of the mill. I appreciate that there isn't too much creme, and the flavor is light... but the maple flavor is pretty average (if my memory serves me well). The last touch is the drive thru! I like to hit Starbucks (typical) first then grab a fresh donut to complete the package... all while clad in my jammies! Pros: Sugar donuts, fluffy texture, drive thru Cons: sometimes they run out Overall: I've got 3 more month of these cravings, but at this rate they may be here to stay. Donuts are delicious, and Doughboys's are especially so. Great variety, always fresh tasting, and served with a smile. There are also other pastries like croissants and claws, as well as bagels and breakfast sandwiches. The coffee is quite decent, and I'm never tempted to make a second stop at the Starbucks across the shopping plaza to get my coffee there. Sometimes on weekend morning Doughboys is very crowded and folks don't realize that there are usually three servers (always super cute/friendly ladies) behind the counter at once. But eventually they do realize it and order and the line moves quickly once that happens. While I'm waiting I like seeing the "feel good" stuff on the wall--newspaper clippings, photos of the little league teams they sponsor, and a plaque from the Salvation Army. There's also a nice flat screen TV to the left of the counter for those who like the moving images. Doughboys is so good that I haven't even tired of it after going at least one day (and sometimes two!) a week. Highly recommend. read more

I have been coming here for years. Their donuts are always pretty good. The last time I came I received a nice long black hair in my donut. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe it was just a one time accident. Today I go get myself a doughnut just to be surprised by another long black hair imbedded in my donut. I am a pretty easy-going person so I just called and let them know that this is the second time I have gotten in my food. The girl I spoke with offered me a refund, but didn't say much about the hair. It's not about the money. It's just pretty disgusting that the last two times I have been here I've gotten a black hair in my food, I can only imagine how many other people have eaten a black hair that was inside their donut lol. read more

When boxes of donuts from this establishment show up where I am, it's a good day. Attention to detail, great presentation, great flavor are combined to create memories....and I'm talking about a donut. This was, and it's hard to believe, my first visit to the actual establishment, and they had a cherry fritter. I've never even heard of this before and so I had to have it. I was glad that I did. Based on donuts alone this place would only get 2 stars. Due to their excellent service I raised them another star. The donuts are so - so. They are really dense and heavy which combo'd with the huge sizes on most is a killer. When I want a donut I want to actually eat a donut - not take one bite and feel like I won't need to eat for another week. I did think it was nice that when I asked if they had any cream filled donuts the employee helping me offered to fill a bar with cream for me since all they currently had was custard. Again, one bite in and I was down for the count. I guess I prefer my donuts a tad lighter and fluffier. I had high hopes since it's so close to my house, but alas, i'll grab a bagel instead and wait for the day a Dunkin' Donuts opens here. read more

Doughboys Donuts is outstanding! These guys are just the best. I love sweets it is my guilty pleasure. This is one of those places where I will spare the calories and fat because man it's good. If I could eat 20 donuts in one meal and not have to suffer the consequences I would. Did I mention these are tasty donuts? Well, they are! Oooh just thinking about them makes my mouth water. I know you guys have probably hear it all from other reviews but just the quality of the donuts, they care they put to baking them, the store cleanliness, the staff being awesome, etc. They are just a great place and I am glad they are around. I highly recommend coming here for a donut or two or 3 or 5000 of them haha jk. I will say having milk at the donut shop, good call. Also, of you are ever having one of those party weekends this place opens at 5am every day. I will say that again they are open EVERYDAY FROM 5AM TO 9PM and on Fridays and Saturday they are open from 5am to 10pm. That is freaken awesome. So, if you have a late night sweet tooth or an early morning sweet tooth they are there for you. I love it! They staff is awesome by the way. They are really patient with you and for us that's a plus because we have kids. They can be indecisive. But they are accommodating to our needs. Again great staff and the quality of their donuts are awesome. Walked in here for the first time heard their doughnuts were good, won't lie the doughnuts are amazing but as soon as I walked in I was getting all kinds of stares from the older lady working on Friday 3/29/24. Not only were the donuts fantastic, I wish I could give 10 stars for the employees and customer service. Came here last weekend with the family. Completely enjoyed the experience and some tasty donuts. After we were satisfied and heading on our way we bid farewell and started heading back to California. However 10 minutes into our return trip my 12 year old realized that she left her purse at the donut shop- cell phone and all. So I called immediately and they had it! Most time they will have plenty of selections even towards closing time, but they were couple of times when it was very minimal. I've always had donuts here so I cannot speak for the other items they have in the menu. The customer service although nothing special has always been good. I love doughboys. Donuts are so good for many different events and Doughboys are some of the best donuts in Reno. In my family they have been brought in for work events, school birthdays, big events, and for a Sunday morning treat. I always feel that their donuts are fresh and definitely not stale. If I had to give donut recommendations I would recommend the wolf pack claws (specifically chocolate) because not only is it great Reno/UNR pride but they are soo chocolaty and delicious. And my Brother loves the powdered donuts and the cake donut (which I also think is very good). Lastly, I recommend the donut holes, because all donut holes are good and that's a fact that I stand by. Also the staff here is super nice, the food is cheap, and it's also very easy to get in and out (although I've never been through the drive through so I can't say anything about the drive-thru speed) read more

This place never disappoints with its perfect circles of puffy treats that melt in your mouth. They have the perfect ratio of sweet glaze and tender moist raised donuts. When I order a cherry glaze donut, I appreciate the fact that it actually does taste like cherry! Even the cake or old -fashioned donuts have the right texture. I appreciate that Doughboy changes out their oil and I have no ever had a donut from this shop that tasted like old grease. Doughboys is the only traditional donut shop in Reno that is legitimately good. I've never had anything bad from any of their locations. They are also VERY supportive of the nonprofit community. Maybe more than any other food focused business in town. Which I think community involvement alone warrants going to get a dozen from them. Definitely try their sprinkled cake donuts. The Apple fritter has no pieces of apple in it, the chocolate cake donuts had really thin frosting they didn't have any lemon filled or chocolate croissants.
