Located on Grande ave is doughboys pizza. We were greeted, our order was taken, and our cheese pizza quickly came out. This Pizza is New York style which is thin. So if you are into thin pizza, this is the place for you. Sauce is simple pizza sauce, not much flavor. I wasn't a fan of the cheese. It's goal of mine and my partner's to try a new pizzeria if we see it by chance and that's exactly what happened to Doughboys Pizzeria! However, to our demise, we didn't even order pizza! They had a deal on bogo wings and so we ordered buffalo and sweet & spicy wings (kind of like thai chili) as well as cheesy garlic roses. The wings' flavors were good but we would've wanted it crispier! The cheesy garlic roses were a little too salty for our liking. We have fond memories of that old favorite pizza--this was so far removed. We stopped going to Doughboy's a few owners back. The original owner read the bad reviews and offered the next buyers their fan favorite recipes, (the recipes that had the customers coming back), but the new owners wanted to make it their own. Shame. Even if it's been too long to remember what the original pizza tasted like, the pizza was underwhelming. I've eaten Neapolitan pizza in Italy and lived in New York I wouldn't compare the pizza I ate today to either. The one thing that is similar to Italy is they don't have ice. They sell canned drinks but no ice. There are several tables inside. It's probably just good for takeout right now because it was HOT inside. The pizza was missing toppings mentioned on the menu, which we would have preferred. The BBQ sauce is too sweet for this pizza; it doesn't complement it. There are so many better pizzerias in the area. I want to be fair, they did just open, but I had highest hopes for the reopening. Currently, there is no ambiance to speak of, Also the countertop was in disarray with things like spices and the basil and green onions that the pizza was missing. The pizza here was good. Being new to the area, been wanting to try new spots to eat at. From the moment you walk in the advertise new york style pizza and be being a new york native this instantly got my attention. A man greeted us he seemed to be the only one working at the time, taking orders and making the pizza himself. The only thing I thought was odd was that he didn't have slough change to give back so he had to go to the 711 next door to get change. Thought we'd give the new place a try. We had a Great pizza , combination pizza lots of toppings, buffalo wings were ok, kinda need to cook a lil more a lil more crispy would be nice. We called in our order and our pizza was ready in 22 minutes for pick up. They have seating inside too. Got a Medium for $21. Seemed fair, until I got to the crust and could tell that only AP flour, water, and salt were used for the dough. Not an ideal practice but filled the gut. Great for a quicker slice than 825 Blast N Brew, but would recommend skipping rather than waiting for a quick appetite. What's more is that the bread folded on my hand while clenching, which meant that it weren't kneaded well enough for a longer stay in. Wasn't happy about the pizza, and would caution advice to your pizza hunting noses towards Pismo Beach. They tend to have quite the difference in presentation and perfecting the slice. read more

Doughboys has new owners. Regular pizza is amazing my family shares. unfortunately, the gluten free crust tasted very homemade and the crust was funky. Came in around 8 o'clock on a Wednesday night, my boyfriend and I just wanted to eat a couple of slices there and take the rest of our pizza home. One guy was doing everything, taking our order and making the order and packing it and checking out the order. He had other online orders while making ours, so we asked if we could dine in. He gave my boyfriend a face and just nodded at him. Maybe ten minutes later, he comes back up and says he still needs to make another order before ours, so do we still want to dine in or take it togo? We felt forced to take it togo, so we just said we would. We went next door to go get some agua frescas. When we came back, he checked out a couple of online orders and then told us our pizza was ready but he forgot to make our garlic roses but that they were in the oven currently. I appreciated the honesty but then he asked if we wanted to wait for it or wanted a refund. So that kind of gave me the idea that he hadn't started on them and wanted to see if we'd be willing to just leave with a refund. We wanted to try them so we said we'd wait and eat some of our pizza while we waited. When we ordered he told us they ran out of pineapple and I was pretty sad about that. If there's one topping I'd really like on my pizza, it's pineapple. But we saw this place was Pinoy owned on life of San Juan's IG and we wanted to try it. We got a combo pizza, it was good. We thought whatever size we got would be NY style but it only comes in XL. So we just got a regular pizza but it was still good. Not impressed though, especially by the garlic roses which we were excited for. I could tell he didn't want to make them, there was no garlic and barely any cheese so it was just bread. But it was cooked perfectly, for it just being ... bread roses haha. He forgot our marinara sauce with it and when my boyfriend asked he gave him another look but then said oh yeah. I forgot that. So service was kind of disheartening, sunset was nice while eating our pizza but I did feel uncomfortable knowing he just didn't want us there. Instead of asking us twice if we still wanted to dine in or if we still wanted our garlic roses, he probably could've just spent the time actually making our food and we would've been out of there quicker. It just wasn't a good ambiance and we definitely felt like it wasn't anything special. It was disappointing after watching the life of San Juan IG video about it. Since we paid for 5 toppings I would expect them to put a bit more stuff on it. If we had known how light the toppings were going to be we would have only ordered it with one or two toppings. Was the caesar dressing supposed to be on the side? I definitely didn't taste it. The ugly: the fettuccine alfredo. I generally prefer al dente... but not that much. And the sauce was literally watery, with no flavor. Luckily the watery sauce absorbed a little into the pasta when I added plenty of my own parmesan and pepper and attempted to bake it in the oven to make it better. Best takeout pizza I have had in a long long time. For context, we eat pizza a LOT and particularly in the past few months probably every week tried a new takeout place for pizza. This pizza was so good. Fluffy but crispy dough. Flavorful marinara and lots of generous toppings. Unprofessional business in Grover Beach. Place is ready to take your money and complicate your day in the process. I ordered a pizza and pasta and was charged for both. After paying I was told that they did not have the pasta I ordered. I was told that the owner would take care of it the following day because the staff there was not allowed to make these reimbursements. Close to a month later I have not received my part of money back for an item I did not receive due to the business not having the food to make pasta. I rarely eat pizza out and usually make it myself because not many pizza places understand how to make a proper dough that's not too doughy or overcooked so a good sauce sometimes. We got doughboys on a whim and it was some of the best pizza I have had. The dough was nice and soft like a pillow that it was easy to chew and you could keep eating it without it feeling like a ball of dough in your stomach.
