I had a bagel from around the corner. as many people know- most business don't complain about outside food if you purchase. I make it a point to visit donut plant whenever I'm in the area. With all of their delicious flavored and tender donuts - my will power is weak, lol. But in all seriousness, Donut Plant offers great selections for moderate prices. My favorite donut is their "Tres Leches" donut - it is unbelievably delicious! This location is narrow and has a few seats. However, since it is right outside the Atlantic -Barclays Terminal, it's very accessible via MTA subway and makes a convenient meeting point. A friend had previously brought a selection of Doughnut Plant doughnuts to a party and I loved them, but I wanted to wait until I went in person before I reviewed it. I was looking for somewhere warm with a good cup of coffee on President's Day, and Doughnut Plant was exactly what I needed. After hemming and hawing and mulling and waffling, I finally decided I didn't *really* need one of everything and settled on a coffee cake doughnut (he got the PBJ filled doughnut). Mine was amazing, and the bite I had of the other one was equally good, full of house-made peanut butter and jam. They cycle through their coffee vendors and on tap that day was Joe, which I love. They also serve Intelligentsia and Toby's Estate, and sell all of their coffee by the bag. At an average of $20/pound, the bags are a little pricey but they make a darn good cup of coffee. Anyway. Now I've had a taste of about half of their inventory...I guess that means I need to go back a few more times to finish off the menu. Note: There are only about a half dozen tables in the place, and they aren't really designed for more than two people. I know the layout of the bldg is weird so that can't be helped, but it definitely isn't a place to sit as more than a twosome. Every time I've walked by previously it's been crowded so getting a seat isn't an option anyway, but on Pres Day it was pleasantly quiet and we were able to sit for a bit without feeling rushed. read more

Mmmmm donuts! I went for a run in my neighborhood and somehow ended up here. It must have been the smell that attracted me here or maybe the fact that I just ran a few miles. Regardless, I was super psyched to try the donuts and I definitely was not let down. The creme brulee and the tres leche cake donuts totally filled my sweet tooth cravings. Door and Yelp say they are open until 10:00 pm but door was locked at 8:50 pm on a Thursday night and girl behind the counter indicated they were not open or accepting new customers. We saw no sign saying they were sold out but based on other reviews, this is common. Why not just adjust the hours? Based on other reviews the time open stamps online and on the door is misleading. When they opened, we frequented them nearly weekly - including buying a dozen tres leches for my son's Mexican-themed birthday party (loved by all!). That said, I'm pretty underwhelmed by these donuts - there are some better than others (yeast with creme on inside, or just plain-er cake like the gingerbread one they had around the holidays). I thought I used to love the chai at the LES location, but have found it WAY too sweet here. I also unfortunately purchased a box of doughnuts for colleagues that didn't get consumed day-of --- oops! That coconut cream filled doughnut turned over night and we spit it out. Nope, no preservatives, but also, I bake cakes with frosting that last overnight?! When I inquired about it the next time the staff was like "these aren't Dunkin Donuts!" and I said, "I know! But I also would not have anticipated the cream going bad over night" - so I recommend if you're not eating it the day-of you make sure you know what's in the filling so that it's not just a day-old donut you get the next day, but that you don't get a rotten one. read more

For a place called Donut Plant that takes up its own little block, I expected the donuts to be made fresh in-house. They aren't, though, they're delivered from their offsite bakery. Still, they were tasty despite being pretty expensive. There's a huge variety of flavors and even types (yeast, cake) for whatever you're in the mood for, so they definitely get points for creativity. They even had a PokeBall donut, suggesting they'll often have specials and limited run offerings. I enjoyed my filled peanut butter donut that was extremely rich, but my partner didn't end up finishing the Blackout, noting it was a little dry. The highlight was actually the coffee -- I'd probably come back here for a good cup sooner than I'll be coming back for the donuts. Avoid the savory donut sticks; $5 for a weird little 'Avocado Toast' donut that was essentially just a mushy greased up pod filled with guacamole wasn't close to worth it. read more

Oh the deliciousness! Man am I excited about these doughnuts. I don't know when artisinal doughnuts became the new hot thing (2013?) but I hope that trend is here to stay because I can never go back to Dunkin Donuts again. Doughnut Plant has been on my to try list for years but I could never justify traveling from Brooklyn to the LES for a doughnut. Now no justification is needed because the Doughnut Plant is a mere 20 minute walk away (let's be real, it's going to be a 10 minute sprint). The doughnuts are pillowy and magical. I had a standard glazed and a chocolate hazelnut filled doughseed (smaller dough-ball) and they were as fantastic as they looked. I've been pretty loyal to Dough donuts because they're now sold in a variety of locations in Brooklyn but might have to switch allegiances to the Doughnut Plant. I reign from the Ohio valleys where cake donuts are bought on farms and cooked with familial gusto. First time trying doughnut plant. Really wanted matcha but they did not have it at the moment. I ordered a red velvet doughnut. Visually looks very nice. There are little bits of red velvet crumbled on the top and the bottom is white. Overall the flavoring is really good, not overwhelming sweet. I thought the texture of the doughnut was a bit dry, wasn't light and fluffy like other donuts I have had but none the less tasty. Pricing is decent and the location is very cute and small.
