This place is definitely a NYC staple. I feel like there's one on every corner at this point. Since New York doesn't really have a ton of mom-and-pop donut shops, most people end up here or Dunkin'. If you want something a little more unique than Dunkin' or Krispy Kreme, this is the spot. The only thing holding me back from giving it 5 stars is the price. A couple donuts and suddenly you're spending way more than you planned. That said, the donuts are massive. You can easily split one with someone or save half for later. Popped in for a snack and it didnt disappoint. Got the Wild Raspberry & Pistachio along with a hot chocolate. The hot chocolate had such a pretty design and was so tasty. Dark and creamy and just the right temperature. Donuts were good, raspberry was on the sweet side but still good. Haven't tried the pistachio but glad I chose it. Both weren't too heavy. I'm honestly upset with myself that it took me this long to try this place out. We tried 4 donuts and they were all super delicious - most importantly to me as someone who tries to minimize dairy, you couldn't tell at all their vegan donuts were vegan! The staff were so helpful and patient as we were choosing between all their amazing flavour options. I ordered from this place and I liked it. In support of the Champs, the New York Knicks, I ordered the orange and blue donut. It was flavorful, however it was a bit too sugary. For a change up, I would do the Wild Blueberry cake doughnut instead. I also think the Summer Peach and Crème Brûlée are pretty good. Recently, my friends and I tried a few more flavors. What caught my eye was the sign outside of Doughnut Plant that said Tres Leches cold brew. I love tres leches cake a lot and knowing Doughnut Plant has tres leches coffee got me hooked and made me fall in love with the place. I got a large size and it was semi sweet, not so sweet that I will be complaining about catching diabetes. I also got a strawberry shortcake and the icing was really good! It also got 3 slices of strawberry on the icing that were really fresh. I liked how it melt in my mouth. The doughnut was also good and not so crumbly that it made a huge mess. The place looked very cute with all the colorful doughnuts embedded on the cemented bench that went well with the doughnut tables. The bench was pretty tough to sit on since there weren't any cushions. All the decor were shaped of doughnuts. A small and quiet place that people come and go to enjoy doughnuts. These doughnuts are meant to be shared and recommended to not be consumed by one person. Their specialty donuts are very unique like the organic orange and tres leches that make me wanna go get more. I love that there was more than one gluten-free option in addition to the sourdough, cake, and yeast donuts. We opted to try a Marcona almond gluten-free cake donut and a strawberry sourdough per Brad's recommendation. Brad gave super detailed and thorough recommendations! They've got a nice array of donuts that they seem to change around seasonly as well as decor that seems to change seasonly also. On a recent visit to the Lower East Side Donut Plant, I reserved my snowman Donut and coffee cake donut as I had previously encountered issues with shortages on what I wanted due to the timing of when I had stopped by a particular donut. I remember first coming to Doughnut Plant in 2008 when it was still relatively new. It's incredible to see how they've become basically a New York institution at this point. My fiance and I were in Chinatown this weekend and we took a short walk over to get a dessert for the road. He's not from NYC so he'd never heard of Doughnut plant before. It was fun showing him all the different flavors. Their menu is seasonal so they have some flavors that they sell year around like the wild blueberry, but others are only around for a limited time like the coconut snowman my fiance ordered (not pictured). I ordered a peanut butter and blackberry jam doughnut. I adore peanut butter so I knew I'd love that part. What I was less sure about was the jam filling. I don't usually like stuffed doughnuts because I find most tend to be overstuffed, messy and overwhelming but this was good. It wasn't too much and it tasted like I was having a pb&j sandwich almost but better. I do the prices are a bit high to make these a regular indulgence, but they're not much different from other artisanal doughnut shops. If you have a particular flavor in mind you want to try, I recommend coming in early as items do tend to sell out. The good thing is that they do update availability in real time on their website, which can save an unnecessary trip to the store. You can also call ahead before you visit. The shop is small so it isn't somewhere you can really stay to enjoy your doughnuts but they do delivery if pickup isn't available to you. read more

I first saw the donut plant on the Food Network years and years ago. There was a show called "the best thing I ever ate "that I used to love to watch and there was an episode with the donut plant on it. For years, I have thought about these donuts and have wanted to try them. Recently, we were in Manhattan for a few days and had a packed schedule visiting many restaurants. One evening we were looking for something sweet and we saw that the donut plant was still open so we took an Uber over and grabbed a box of donuts. It was the end of the day so understandably it was slim pickings in terms of flavor options. But we were able to get a vanilla bean donut, a blueberry donut, and an assortment of other flavors. I think we were even able to get a Tres leches donut. It looked as if there were maybe one or two people working there, but the guy behind the counter was super friendly. He gave us good recommendations and let us know that the donuts were made fresh just a few minutes earlier. We sat in the location and scarfed the donuts and they were actually so delicious.
