2/10/26 - Dinner Four of us celebrated Fred's 80th birthday. We had 4 excellent meals and a delightful time. FOOD: The chicken parm was delicious! Two people had shrimp scampi. Very generous portion and was said to be excellent. The 4th meal was a chicken special, also reported to be excellent. Meals came with bread, very generous salad, a meatball, and a shot of lemon cello. Very nice touch. The meatball was one of the best I've ever had. A truly enjoyable visit! SERVICE: Perfect. Not rushed and not waiting. Very good pace. Servers were highly experienced. And had a great sense of humor. AMBIENCE: A little dated, but still very nice and clean. We will definitely return! Here's how this started I had 430 reservations got there at 4:10 was told not open yet, so I was just standing there didn't know what to do other waitress told my waitress well sit him at his table. That's how it started and then the came over and asked me what I want to when she did that which was probably 420 I said we would like claims Casino and stuffed peppers and I was told that I can't order till 430 so I said OK just bring my Pepsi everything was fine until I asked for more bread and I was told that I can't have any more bread and I said are you kidding? Overall I did enjoy this place. I thought the food was really good and service was top notch. My only negative point is that it really seemed to take a long time to finish the dinner service. I know there are a lot of course they served but it was a really long dinner. The service was definitely 5/5. They gave us a lot of complimentary dishes to try like the meatballs and some limoncello! That was a great touch. The food is also fantastic! The red sauce was good and I had shrimp scampi as my main dish which was cooked perfectly. The best parts Of the meal were the salad dressing (a creamy parmesan dressing) and the minestrone! Definitely need to try those if you dine here. Met friends for lunch today. The restaurant is only open on Tuesday and Thursday for lunch. They do specials along with the regular lunch menu. I had a special, it was chicken ricotta and spinach meatballs with linguine and red sauce. You have a choice of soup, today's was pasta Fagioli, or salad served with warm bread and garlic breadsticks. It was all real good. Our waitress was very pleasant and said the special was an excellent choice and she will be having that for dinner tonight. The restaurant is very quaint with water goblets, cloth tablecloths and napkins. Quieter relaxing atmosphere. read more

The Dove is quite a special place. This was the spot where Phil took me before he proposed. Sherry greeted us and was lovely as always. She can pour and craft quite the drinks and she is very much appreciated. Lisa, our server, was on top of everything and made sure everything was special. Dina, chef extraordinaire, makes THE best steak and risotto. My now fiance, ordered us a ridiculously large bone-in steak before a special event went down a couple hours later (the proposal). It was accompanied with broccoli and risotto. The risotto was so creamy and excellent, my mouth is salivating as I write this review. The steak was incredible. Dina certainly put her magic touches into this one and it was perfectly done - medium rare. Dina came out to check on us and she is truly a gem. You must pre-order this amazing dish. The entire experience was truly one of a kind and you definitely feel like family. It is such a comfortable environment. You always get pasta e fagioli, a meatball, homemade bread. Plan on spending a couple hours here. You are here for a memorable experience, not for quick service. The food, ambiance, and everyone who is at The Dove are so amazing. Check this place out. Never again. My entree was awful. I couldn't even eat my chicken picatta because it was like rubber and had a funny taste. The meatballs and sauce are a plate of salt. The pasta figioli was a bowl of noodles with a teaspoon of creamy sauce. The chocolate Dove candies sealed the deal. They were stale, and I had to spit my candy out. The decor..don't even get me started. It was like stepping back in time, and not in a good way. We got LOTS of water. That's the only positive I can say about the place. First I have to say we used to come to the Dove over 30 years ago. It hasn't changed ( at all) The decor is exactly the same.They haven't changed one thing.( At the front door is a dead plant to greet you.) The bar tender really didn't act like she knew what she was doing. First impressions are so important and ours wasn't great. We went early to have a drink at the bar( which is also the same and looked like the bottles hadn't been dusted in the same 30 years ) The woman kept trying to get us to go to our seat but we told her we were celebrating our anniversary and came early to have a drink. She replied with " I just don't like to see anyone waiting for a table " So after she tried to seat us 3 times we decided we better sit ... still 10 minutes before our reservation. They started us by taking our drink order which took a while. Then , like someone else commented, very salty meatballs and bread. Then soup which I thought was very good but I was so full already. Then limoncello to cleanse our pallet. Now for the main.... The lasagna was outstanding. Huge portions. Really good. I can't say enough good things about that. We will definitely go back when we're craving lasagna. We just wished the wait staff was friendlier. And it did take a very long time for dinner. The 4 older women were the main staff and the young boys the wait staff. No one wanted to smile the whole night Except the one shorter waitress. She seemed very jovial. The Dove is one of those restaurants that you always pass and say "oh we should try that sometime!" and then when you finally do you say "WHY didn't we try that sooner???" It doesn't look like much from the outside, but its been open a very long time and its showing its age. However, the food is well worth looking past its age. I've tried many things on the menu and truly don't have a favorite because there are so many good options. I try to try something new every time. One note though - we do always opt for takeout after our first dining experience took nearly 2.5 hours. When you eat there, you are eating as an experience so expect it to take a long time and be served many, many courses. They serve so many complimentary courses including a soup, limoncello and dessert cookie. You don't get most of this with takeout, but you do save yourself a few hours time. A helpful tip is to book their last reservation for the night so they bring out the courses a bit quicker so you don't sit there after they close. All of the waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. Prices are also extremely reasonable, especially given the large serving sizes. read more

Woof. Service: We came in for a 6:00 reservation on a Thursday, the place was busy. The space is cute, holiday decor but a bit tired. There were three servers working in the dining area, and they were constantly running around, we were also the smallest table, of three. Most tables have four to ten people! The reviews mentioned that it's a pretty laid-back and take your time sort of meal, but part of that is just due to the service. I will also point out that there's a complimentary meatball per person and bread basket, soup served to all, salad, a pallette cleansing shot of limoncello before your entree is served. There's a lot of back and forth. It took at least ten minutes between each encounter for our server to bring menus, take initial orders, return with drinks, and bring out the as for mentioned courses. I would have taken photos, but the place is very dark, actually turned on my phone so my father could read the drink menu. Our server was personable but definitely a bit gruff and pushy. You could tell she was kind of frustrated with how busy it was and the number of tables she was taking care of. She told us multiple times that she couldn't take our orders until the kitchen was ready. We did watch many other tables get their orders taken before ours. There is also a period of at least 15 minutes where our table was empty of pre entree courses but she had yet to come and take our entree orders. We felt like when she did come over we had to speak now or forever hold our peace on requesting anything else. The food: The bread was fine, and if you're battling hypertension, this is not a place for you. The red sauce is very very salty. The meatball was primarily made of salt. The pasta soup was bland, I added a lot of parm and raw onions to jazz it up. Salad was very simple and the crouton dust was a surprise-- my father was a bit perplexed, he was worried it was aquarium gravel. I got the calamari and mussels pasta with was ample, chewy and bland. I actually took the top off the pepper shaker to get more at once. The sauce was watery, splashing on my clothing. My fellow diners got the haddock special which was very salty and the pork tenderloin which was the star of the night- very tender and well dressed with a Marsala gravy. However, the menu read 'pork medallions' and it came out as two big boneless pork chops. We had no room for dessert and resolved that it would have taken another hour to get anyways. We left the restaurant clocking in at 2 hrs 20 minutes. I would come back to get the pork dish but I will get it for takeout...maybe a slice of cake too, it looked pretty good. read more

My goodness, this place has been around for so long and I still had never been there. I was happy to go here for the first time last night. We had a great dinner. I was really impressed. We got there right when they opened and they only had one table left in the dining room due to reservations, though they did have a few nice the bar area. The hallway smelled like potpourri, which is a little odd since I'd prefer it to smell like good food. We were seated promptly and I don't think I've ever been given water and been served so quickly. Our meal started off with a basket of warm rolls and bread sticks with complimentary meatballs and sauce with whipped butter. After that we each got a complimentary bowl of pasta fazool. Next came our dinner salad which was part of the dinner entree with a house dressing. I ordered the lasagna which was good and came steaming hot and I hardly was hungry for it by that time. My partner got the seafood diablo. It came with all sorts of shellfish and other items. He liked it, it was spicy. Oh, I forgot to mention limoncello was served before dinner. That was great and it was homemade. We ended up purchasing a bottle of it to take home. We couldn't resist dessert so we shared a tiramisu and my partner got an espresso. We were stuffed by the end. Honestly, I couldn't believe how inexpensive the bill was with everything we purchased and ate. Definitely glad we checked this place out and hope to go back. read more

Haven't been here in a while because of service but some friends decided to try again. Reservations were at 6:30 we were not done being served until 9:00 we were finally able to leave after taking a few bites of food at 9:45. It was a disaster they kept on giving us soup and meatballs and other items because they couldn't handle the amount tables our waitress had to handle. She had s table of 19 in the back room plus numerous others including us. Once our orders came the food was ok nothing worth spending that much time to wait for food. First time visiting The Dove Restaurant, drove past so many times always saying, we have to go there. We waiting at the bar for our table to be ready, which was ok, as it was date night and we go to spend time at the bar talking. Once seated, we were greeted by our server Grace, was very friendly and bubbly. The young man who was also our server immediately brought us our complimentary meatballs and bread. They both were very hot and delicious. We sat and talked after eating and enjoyed the ambiance and the romantic setting. We were able to look at the menu after hearing the specials and decide what we wanted to order. Once we ordered , We received our complimentary pasta fagioli, that was the best ever. We had a nice amount of time in between the soup and then our appetizers were served. More time passed and then we were served our salads, I highly recommend the house creamy parmesan, More time passed and we were served our entrees. We were then offered dessert, that we had to decline as we were full from the multiple courses of food. Our dining experience at The Dove restaurant was exceptional. This is one of my favorite restaurants. I've had almost every pasta dish on the menu and I never leave hungry, plus lunch for the next two days! The entrées come with a complimentary cup of their AMAZING pasta fagioli soup, followed by a lovely salad (I highly recommend their house dressing- a Parmesan ranch). You also get homemade rolls, don't make the same mistake I do, don't eat more than one before your meal arrives. Between the soup, salad, and one roll, you won't have much room. And just when you think you can't fit anymore in your stomach, you're given an adorable little sugar cookie just to top off your meal, even though you've already loosened the belt on your pants. This is our absolute FAVORITE place. Between the amazing staff, owners, and food... this place is to die for. The courses are unreal - you will continuously eat until you get your entree. Not only do they give you complimentary meatballs and bread, but then soup, salad, your entree, and warm cookies to finish. I'm a picky italian, and this is the whole package. This restaurant is a place you can go with the best value and wont leave hungry. The staff is amazing and always checking to see if you need anything. Right when you sit down after you order the drinks they come out with bread and meatballs. There are no meatballs on the menu but they come complimentary and are very flavorful. We placed order for appetizers the stuffed peppers, calamari, shrimp cocktail, duck wings that were on special. All were very good the only thing is the stuffed peppers had seeds in them and were very hot almost to the point where you couldn't enjoy them. Then came the complimentary pasta fagoli soup which was hot and delicious with cheese and onions that could be added. Then our salads came out they were large and would recommend the house peppercorn dressing. Then came the shots of lemonchello to cleanse the pallet. The entrees which were piled high with food we were so stuffed we could only take a couple bites then needed boxes. The bites we did take were delicious. The fettuccine was so creamy with huge shrimp. The Parmesan covered the plate and was so flavorful. We were too stuffed for dessert but compliments of the chef they brought warm cookies that we had to try and they were out of this world. I would recommend this place based on the service and the wonderful food. Just a heads up skip the apps you can then enjoy your whole entree. read more

Just happened to stop into The Dove without a reservation on a Friday night and they were able to accommodate us immediately. What a pleasant experience! The servers were extremely friendly and the service top notch! We were happily given a complimentary meatball appetizer, soup , and limoncello! The portions were huge, and all of our food was absolutely delicious. They specialize in Italian food and everything was fresh and tasted wonderful! The prices were very reasonable. The only negative is that the restaurant needs a bit of updating, but I highly recommend! read more

My family came here on a mini trip from Columbus. We both love Italian and until this place were never happy. The staff is out of this world! The meals are a huge portion and the taste is amazing. I got a GC for Christmas present. As I perused the menu online I saw they have escargot! I love escargot and not many place has them. So my bf and I decided to stop by and get some appetizers, a nice date out. We ordered escargot and beef carpaccio. While waiting for the food they gave us a basket of bread and... meatballs! Whaaa... I don't normally like meatballs sauce but this actually quite good for the bread. Though the meatballs itself ok but I like it to be more flavor. Finally our apps out. Beautiful presentation on beef carpaccio. The escargot however a bit odd. I love the beef taste fresh and just yummy! The escargot is ok. I would love more butter on it. The cheese made it a bit heavy. After the apps we got another surprise a lemon cookies! It's nice lemony taste, subtle not strong, soft and warm fresh out of the oven. The waiter is nice. Overall good experience. I probably would go back though the menu selection is just ok. read more

Traditional, homestyle Italian food at it's finest. I remember as a young child, passing by the Dove restaurant on the way to McKinley mall and I always wanted to eat here but my father always teased about the strange hours. Well, he was right, they do have weird hours - They are open for lunch and dinner but not open from 2pm to 5pm. My husband and I wanted to try a new place for our anniversary dinner, so I finally got my chance to go here! The interior décor is typical old lady house. They are definitely trying to keep the home-style theme. We were the youngest people there by atleast 30 years, which isn't a problem...but we felt awkward because even the waitress treated us like "What are you doing here?" It was dark in the restaurant so when the waitress came out with the candles, it added a romantic feel to the dinner, so that was appreciated! There was a lot of unexpected complimentary pieces to the dinner... they gave us a free mini appetizer to try of polenta, a cup of pasta fagioli (Which was the best part of the meal), a lemon liquor shot to "cleanse your palette", and warm little cookies as a dessert. My husband and I both appreciated the complimentary additions. Then we realized why they kept offering them... the service was so terribly slow. We were in there for over 2 hours, had to flag down our waitress for our drinks, etc. If it wasn't for the slow service, I would have given 5 stars because the owners genuinely care about their guests and it was a nice home cooked meal. We won't be back, but I would recommend this restaurant to my parents to check out. They are retired and have 2 hours of their day to spare. (P.S. Not Dog Friendly) read more

I am so sorry to say that we had a poor experience at this restaurant. From the moment we arrived I kind of got the vibe that this was not going to be the place for us, but I had gone here before a few years ago, and liked it. We waited almost 10 minutes for a hostess to even acknowledge our existence, only to tell us that in a restaurant filled with empty tables, there was going to be a 15 minute wait. So, we went to the bar and grabbed a drink with another couple doing the same. We did indeed wait at least 20 minutes for a table. We were then seated and waited another 10 minutes for our waitress to show up. When she came back to take our order, we had to ask if there were specials, otherwise we never would have heard them. We placed our order and off she went only to return with the list of items we ordered that they couldn't make. She dropped off a basket of bread and a bowl with two meatballs. By this time, I was hungry and eager to eat them. The first thing we both tasted was salt! I separated the sauce from the meatball and both were so salty. I think maybe the sauce had too much and the meatball absorbed it. Next was the soup. I think it was suppose to be pasta fagioli. It was bland and gritty. The salad was good and the beef rolletini was actually delicious. The chicken parm was too thin, too much breading and covered in the salty sauce. The service was very lack luster and insanely slow. I dis not experience a welcoming feeling here at all. And a heads up, if you are on a low carb/Keto diet, this is a no go, as there is not much without a pasta base, breading and no salad selection other then chef. Very disappointed especially with all of the positive reviews here, but as I review them, most are older from the time I first went here. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a weekday date night at the Dove. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. We ordered chicken marsala and shrimp scampi for our entrees. Both were delicious, but not the best we've had in the Western New York area. The chef provided complimentary soup, salad, bread, meatballs, lemon cello (to cleanse the palette) and Italian cookies. This place has been going strong for years and shows no signs of losing its appeal. Really excellent homemade meals with a decidedly Italian bent. And your meal comes with the works: soup, salad, palate cleanser, even a warm cookie (the cookie wasn't very impressive though). We could smell the garlic from the parking lot, luring us in. I had the special, a pork chop, and it was really delicious. Nothing much fancy about the decor, but the service is excellent (same waitress has been there for years and she shows no signs of slowing down).
