My only "but" is this is a fast food environment- order at a counter,then get your own drink, sit down, they bring it to you. I tipped for this not knowing how it worked-- I personally do not feel this is a tip worthy service. Now, I know I ordered lobster and market price isn't cheap, but my bill was still over $45-- if I had thought more with my head and not my stomach, I would have went elsewhere and had a true sit down meal. I asked for truffle parm tater tots instead of fries. There was also a Lobster Roll with brussel sprouts instead of fries. A Poke Bowl and a Fish Sandwich. Two orders of the parm tater tots arrived at our table quite quickly. Small orders I might add, there were about 13 tots in the bowl. Two other plates showed up in about 15 minutes, the melt and the fish sandwich. My melt came with fries. I guess she just charged my $4.95 for 13 tots. The lobster roll came in another 5 minutes or so, with, brussel sprouts and fries! The three of us picked gingerly at our food waiting for the last order, the poke bowl. Which took another almost 15 minutes to arrive! The service was weird, our food came out in intervals, and incorrectly. My melt was, mediocre. We did take-out from Slapfish in the last weekend of July. There were some really good things to say, but there were some very amateur mistakes that, seriously, you could have avoided. I should mention that one thing I hate about take-out, is that it leaves the door WIDE OPEN for mistakes not only to be made, but to go unaccounted for. I did take a look at the food and the general orders were correct (we did get all of our ordered entrées), but the details of our orders were not done correctly. So let me start with the good things... The food was F-R-E-S-H. My whole family loved that and we couldn't shut up talking about how flavorful it was. I won't give a whole novel on all the entrées, but I can say we all found our plates very delicious with flavor, texture, all the great things that come with fresh ingredients. While I was waiting for the food, I had a chance to check their men's room. It was reasonably clean, organized, and modeled well. I also observed the dining area, it was clean and organized. Reflecting back, there weren't that many people there so maybe it was before the evening rush(?). So with all that good stuff, what could possibly have gone wrong? Well, I did request the take-out order to be ASAP, which left 14 minutes between the time on my computer's clock and when "ASAP" would be. I did not get there in time, but strangely enough the food was not ready either. That was odd. So why would the timer give only 14 minutes for 5+ entrées? Are the cooks that good? So something wasn't right, either the time estimation was wrong or the preparation was slow. Something needs correcting there. I also requested a few specific options with three of the orders. One order was to have cucumbers on the side (which they were not), another to have NO avocado (it did avocado, I hate avocado), and a third with slam sauce (which it didn't have). So shame on me for not checking closer and holding accountability for these. I don't live in Albuquerque, so I don't think I will return any time soon. But the freshness was definitely memorable in a very good way. If other patrons can confirm this, then this was probably just an order gone "less than perfect". In a business where serving fresh food without breaking somebody's bank is probably challenging, I believe credit should be given here. Come for the freshness, I think you will be well pleased (hopefully you'll get the slam sauce you asked for). read more

In my opinion, Slapfish is a little overpriced for what you get. It is pretty decent but not somewhere I would go out of my way to go. I went the other night with a friend who was craving lobster and I ordered the fish and chips. My first mistake was ordering the larger size with two filets instead of one because the filets were much larger than I expected. Looking back, I should have known lol. The dipping sauce was fantastic though! Super good. The fish was good too, rather oily but that is usually the name of the game with fish and chips. The fries were somewhat undercooked though. I do love french fries and their fries would have been the perfect size because I like a medium thick fry, these were just too firm and a bit undercooked. I ordered a bottled rootbeer because I really wanted a soda and it was great. They have a really decent selection of sodas and even some local wines and beers. We went to Slapfish specifically for a lobster roll. The posted menu said the price was $26.95. It's a bit high but lobster rolls are generally high. The cashier told us that price was incorrect and it should say "market price" instead. He said market price was $36.95. We asked him to check with the manager who was within earshot and within view. The manager agreed the price should be $36.95, even though the sign clearly said $26.95 (as does their website). We instead purchased a shrimp scampi roll and an order of fish and chips. The fish and shrimp were ok. The fries were overdone. As a side note, we were there about 6:30pm on a Friday and only one other customer was there. read more

Their management is really on top of things. They've fixed the timing on their fish and chips so that the batter doesn't get burned. The batter is now light golden and fish is firm yet tender, not mushy and tasteless. As a plus, the brussels sprouts are also roasted crisp, with a perfect glaze. We wanted to celebrate my MIL birthday. Everywhere was busy on a Saturday night. So we ended up trying Slapfish bc it didn't have a long wait. When we finally found 2 tables, per the governor's orders, we couldn't sit together bc we had 6 ppl. We ordered inside and they brought our food out to us. We started with Shrimp Ceviche bc I love ceviche. It came with toasted chips. I was excited to try their Seafood, so I ordered their most expensive item, apparently. Lobster roll with fries was MP ($22-$25)?! And SO got the Clobster Grilled Cheese with clam chowder, which was less expensive. Overall, we thought the food was bland. Honestly, the Shrimp Ceviche lacked much flavor. The chips were crunchy, but needed salt. The sandwiches were tasty, but weren't the best. The bread got soggy quick. SO didn't care for his Clobster grilled cheese bc it was greasy, but at least the cheese was stretchy. He enjoyed the clam chowder more. But I was hungry, so I made sure to finish everything. MIL enjoyed her Poké Tuna bowl at least. Service was attentive and patient. The food came out pretty fast. They didn't bring 1 out of the 2 Shrimp Ceviches, but they made it fast while adding extra chips. The next day, I ate the leftover Shrimp Ceviche and added Tabasco sauce and cilantro to brighten it up a bit. I see what Slapfish was trying to do with their branding. Went there after trying to find a good fish place with high hopes. Wife ordered fish tacos and I ordered fish and chips. First, the fish tacos were literally just fish sticks that looked like they were pulled from a bag you find at the market, the tortillas were stale and the salsa had the consistency of blended whole limes with some unripe tomatoes. The food was nasty. I ordered the fish and chips. Again, 3 little fish sticks with a tartar sauce whose main ingredient must have been salt because that's all you tasted. I thought, I'll eat the fries and sure enough they were just as salty as the tartar sauce. I went to complain about the taste and their response was to give me a new tartar sauce. The place was extremely cold with an older family bundled up in blankets to keep warm. DO NOT GO HERE, is you plan on having a good meal. I am so upset that I only visited Slapfish on my last visit to ABQ! As I travel for work, choosing a chain restaurant for a meal is not my first choice. Man, I was so wrong about this one. The key to Slapfish, as the waitstaff from the register informed me, "Choose the fish, then choose the dish". As the restaurant is always serving seafood that is currently fresh and sustainable, it's difficult to make a poor decision. I would go into detail about my dishes, but they were all great! One of my favorites was the variety of hot sauces available. All are of the Snapfish brand, but they do not shy away from heat and the flavors are solid. The website suggests, "Slapfish takes the fine dining mantra and puts it into a fast casual model," and I totally agree. From the small bottles of wine, clean appearance throughout, to the dishes themselves, I felt like I was eating high quality food in a casual dining experience. If all locations are like this one, I HIGHLY recommend Slapfish for any dining occasion! I'm going to bookmark others in areas I typically travel. read more

Slapped by Slap Fish I was working in NM for a few days so I searched "best fish sandwich near me". Highly rated, Slap Fish was within walking distance. I ordered the Fish Sandwich Blackened and the Spicy Tuna Taco was just calling me especially after she said "They are appetizer size" when I asked how many (3) and how big? As you can see by the plating, the fried were the star of the dish. They were crispy, hot, seasoned well but under salted. And as we know, adding salt to fries at the table is much different than adding it properly and immediately after they come out of the oil (or the air fryer). Salt them better and I will return just for your fries. The fish sandwich was ok, meh. Too much bread and other stuff in relation to the amount of fish. The spicy tuna taco special was bad. Pretty sure it was the Old El Paso taco corn shells (why not soft small tortilla). We all know those OEP types need some juicy ground beef or pork or chicken to soften up those hard and dry shells. In this case, the overall dryness of the plate was amplified because the tacos were sitting on a bed of raw dry cabbage and more than half of the taco was filled with it. What a dry bite, sheesh. The cabbage was not salted to extract water and to soften it, it wasn't seasoned with anything. Next, I tried eating tuna solo. It was spicy (hot sauce, Tabasco, or sriracha and green onions) but it was one note and contributed to the overall dry theme. It needed some mayo, some shoyu, some sesame oil. So I dunked it in the chipotle mayo and that helped A LOT along with a big cup of water. If I return, it'll only be for the fries. read more

Hoooooo-weeeeeee! I am so grateful to Yelp for prompting me to step outta my midtown comfort zone and into uptown to try this amazing little order-at-the-counter seafood place. First of all, the premise of the joint is sustainability and the seafood they serve appears (at least the day's specials do.. and speaking of, Barramundi?!) to be inspired by conscientious farming and harvesting practices. That makes the true vegetarian in me feel a little bit better about truly being a pescatarian. The other premise of the joint is to serve remarkably unique menu items, from their food to their drinks. And the other other premise of the joint is to serve up incredibly tasty goods! I ordered the Clobster, which is a phenomenal concoction of buttery texas toast topped with creamy, chunky lobsterness, topped with an equally calorie-budget-defying slab of cheese, toasted to a perfect degree. Staff hinted that green chile thrown in is an absolute to-die-for addition, so naturally I had to cede to their recommendation. Awesomeness. I also ordered the clam chowder, but was not entirely wow'ed. Though the flavor was nice, the clam was pretty rubbery. Nevertheless, I cleaned my bowl, so it certainly wasn't a deal-breaker. If I had it to do over, I'd try the ceviche. Another thing I'd like to mention is, aside from serving a great selection of canned and bottled drinks - alcohol and non - and local draft beers, they also serve fountain sodas by Tractor Beverage Company (not to be confused with Tractor Brewery; this Tractor is of Idaho). The fountain offers a magnificent collection of tasty 100% organic, GMO-free soda pops, with unique flavors like Blood Orange, Kola Cola, Cucumber, and (my favorite) Coconut. The fountain is hidden in a cubby around the corner, and I originally overlooked it, opting instead for a bottled root beer from the drink case at the counter. Gladly, they have little sampler cups sitting right there, so I got to try em all! I woulda' totally got the fountain soda if I'd realized it was over there. Oh! I almost forgot! The other other OTHER premise is apparently service service SERVICE. They were so excited to expose the customers to all their other awesome premises, and really made me feel like they were glad we popped in. If I could offer any recommendation, it would be to put one or two things on the menu that cater to the vegetarian. My vegan escort opted for the Power Bowl without the fish, which was pretty good but truly not worth the $13 without it. The chowder fries were pretty good, but it was a lot smaller than I expected for the price that I paid for it. There was enough chowder on it and it was great. For my entree, the shrimp roll with grilled shrimp was also delicious. There were a great amount of shrimp on the piece of bread. The bread was nicely toasted and buttered. I thought the fries were very plain and didn't have any seasoning on them at all.
