I'm not the type of person who gives low ratings to a place of business but today is the day to do it. It has been a long time since we have eaten here so we decided to give it another try. Well, all I can say is I don't ever plan to return. I politely asked if they had any fish other than salmon or tuna. (Most restaurants do have a fish of the day.) The waiter, (don't know his name) rudely proceeded to tell me that the only fish on the menu is salmon or tuna and even said if we didn't like the menu we could go somewhere else. Then he asked if we were ready to order or if we were leaving? My DIL decided to order so she ordered and then it was my turn. I started with the fried green tomatoes and then the shrimp and corn chowder. I was told they didn't have any shrimp and corn chowder. I then said to him that it was on the board when we came in and he replied "they haven't changed the board" we don't have that. I said I'll have the crab burger without the bun. When our food arrived, he asked if we needed anything else and I said yes my tomatoes. He said it's on your plate, referring to the one slice of red tomato for my crab burger. I said no my fried green tomatoes. He replied back and said "oh! I thought you didn't want those since we didn't have the shrimp chowder." He didn't even ask, just assumed that I didn't want them. My DIL told him to just walk away because she recognized I was getting ready to go off on him. He then passed our table off to different waitress. This maybe acceptable service here but in my experience, NOT in most places. read more

i came here on a day off for a nice lunch by myself. i'm sitting outside and the flies are insane, and a gal from the restaurant brings this anti fly eiffel tower to my table so im not assaulted by the rats of the bug world. it worked. great place to eat obviously, because as i was sitting outside a nonstop flow of people came to have lunch. small section of outdoor seating available. friendly staff. 11/10 recommend. brookes was the best! ps. the dish looked so good before i got my hands on it in this pic read more

Down on main is awesome! It is locally owned and the food and service always goes unmatched. This is one of my go tos down town Washington. I hate to see people leaving bad reviews that didn't even eat there because they saw people not wearing a mask. If that bothers you then don't eat there. We ordered take out a chicken tender plate and some cheese fries. The cheese fries were really good. But the chicken tenders were crap we got the tenders for our 2 yr old and I had to pull the chicken out of the middle of the tenders because of how hard the breaded parts were very tough and hard. read more

We recently visited and can't say I'm in any hurry to return. We ate outside which was nice, but inside the restaurant was packed. They are not following any social distancing recommendations and their staff isn't wearing masks. We stayed because there was plenty of space outside. I know the restaurant is in a small town where covid isn't a big concern, but they do need to realize that if they have out of town visitors (like us) they may be putting people at a higher risk. Anyways, It took about 5 visits to bring us a beer because they were out of half they had listed and no one could tell us what was available. Food was okay. My salad was a bit wilted. Lovely quaint restaurant in "little" Washington NC...went with friends that live in the area and was one of the few places open today. The place was bustling but we never felt rushed. Our waitress was extremely polite and service was on point. We make it a point to eat there when we visit a friend who lives there. Great food, generous portions and fabulous prices. We come here for the bartender and her personality. I have a seafood allergy so not much I can eat here. Typical bar food here, but the drinks are large and the beer is cheap. I just moved to town, and i've eaten there twice. The staff is very friendly, even when the place is packed, which is apparently often and was, both times I dined there. I sat at the bar both times, as I was alone and didn't want to hog a whole table for myself. The bar area seems to be mostly locals, which I loved and everyone was very friendly. I had the blackened tuna sandwich both times (because it was so good the first time!), and was recommended by the bartender. They cooked it perfectly both times, I don't know how I'll go in there again and NOT order it! LOL! Nice place, plenty of parking, the food (well, at least the grilled tuna sandwich! lol!), is good. Good shrimp dishes in a casual cafe setting downtown in Washington. I had the grilled shrimp entree that comes with a salad and rice. I liked the freshness and the flavor of the blackened spices. The portion is small but I wanted something minimal for dinner. They had a few wines by the glass and some beers on their list too. We came down from Virginia to visit family, and this is probably the best place in the Washington/ Greenville area! Service was great, food was off the chart phenomenal. 5 out of 5 and will defiantly come back here on the next trip! Also, try the soft crab sandwich, or sirloin with shrimp! My husband and I were traveling through town and wanted "restaurant" food, not your run-of-the-mill fast food. We saw the reviews of this restaurant and after checking into a garbage hotel, we were really hopeful. I ordered the "award-winning" crab cake which I would think wouldn't even win an award if it was fake crab. It was literally inedible. My husband ordered tuna and it was not even seasoned!!! What a garbage restaurant! I would have enjoyed getting Taco Bell food in town because I know they have edible food without charging a ridiculous amount of money for hyped-up crap. Ordered the Thursday lunch special: Fried Shrimp w/ fries and slaw. BIG PORTIONS! Shrimp was nicely, but not overly, fried. Fries were crispy and delicious. Slaw was a little too liquidy for my liking. Still, an overall great meal. That, plus tea for $5.49? Can't beat it! Good place for a quick lunch, seated really quick as service was prompt as well, food was quick maybe too quick as kitchen forgot to season my burger, chips and my wife's Philly cheese steak, no even the simple salt & pepper trick was used. The $10 burger I think was a little over priced for the 4"bun and maybe 5" beef patty. The Philly cheese steak was fresh and abundant, but again lack of seasoning. It seems to be creeping into a everywhere. Servers who don't know anything about the food. My server here at lunch today made me feel stupid for asking what the difference in their 'special' cole slaw and regular cole slaw. I don't eat onions so I always ask when something has a fancy name in front of it. She didn't know anything about it but made it clear that I shouldn't have asked. I wanted to order the fish tacos and the same exact thing happened when I asked if there was any sauce on the fish tacos. She looked at me like I was crazy and I had to explain to her that fish tacos usually have a sauce of some sort - especially if they are listed as a special. When she walked away I felt like leaving because I felt belittled for asking. I'm going to give this place one more chance. This is my second time here and the waitress the first time treated me poorly. I'm eating alone and maybe the management has an attitude about people dining alone. read more

Where do I start. I travel the ends of this country and end up here to have dinner. We were told that it would be a 30 to 40 minute wait for a table for 9. While sitting and waiting for an hour and a half and watching 2 6 tops be broken down and customers that had come in after us be seated and another 6 top given to another group that came in after us we approached the hostess to inquire. She said that she had not had any tables come available. Well I beg to differ. We were told at least another 15 minutes. My wife had the salmon and it was the worse she had ever had. It was very dry and tasteless. I had the pasta and shrimp. The white sauce was more like a paste. Heavily seasoned, and the shrimp where small. I will say that the wait staff did do the best that they could. It is food if you need sustenance. If you have a choice, dine else where. Well I was talked into going back. Had the sun dried tomato chicken, mashed potato and grilled veggies (squash). My idea of grilled differs greatly from the cooks. They were steamed/stewed squash. The mashed potatoes were not hot, were dry, and had the appearance of being old by looking gray. The chicken breast was thin, dry and tough. The flavor I will say was decent. We really like the food; however, it is extremely noisy. It is not just loud conversations. It is yelling, screaming, tremendously loud laughing, etc. You cannot hold a normal conversation with others at your table since you can't hear over the noise. It is like that every time we eat here. it could be an enjoyable restaurant if the staff could control the patrons. read more

The new appetizer the "Gemma Sticks" are amazing! Homemade pimento cheese all melty and so good! I had Big Joe's Chicken Philly that was huge and very good!!! Can't beat the homemade chips and ranch either. Will be back. read more

I was in Washington for a 5k and found this quaint, cute little place with the assistance of the Yelp app. We were "late" for dinner but the restaurant still had plenty of people dining. They played mostly 80s music, which I loved. My daughter ordered a burger and fries and I had the grilled chicken sandwich which I requested lettuce wrapped and a side salad. The side salad was very basic (iceberg, carrots, cucumber and a few small red onion slices) but the dressing was delicious. The chicken was pretty good (I believe it was cooked on a flat-top grill) but the lettuce around it was very green and crisp. Very nice. My only "compliant" about the sandwich was the yellow cheese. I would preferred a different cheese as the yellow didn't really work well with the chicken. My daughter enjoyed her burger very much (although she had requested no tomato and it had tomato on it, not a big deal though) but she LOVED the fries. The atmosphere was quaint and our server was terrific, very kind and accommodating. The only other "negative" is that the ladies bathroom was literally right next to the kitchen. Not a huge deal but it was weird to come out and be right there. I understand the restaurant used to be an old store (maybe?) so there is only so much you can do about the bathroom placement. Again, not a huge deal just odd. We would certainly return, the menu was surprisingly large for the size of the place and next time I'd probably try something with pimento cheese! read more
