Burger and Fries

Down on Mainstreet is a busy place in Downtown Washington. You can enter from the street side of the parking lot side. I lucked out and did not have to wait for a table. They have inside, bar and some outside tables in the back. The atmosphere is casual. The menu has a lot of options but I went with the Steele Burger and fries as the side. My burger was cooked to order and I liked I could pick my cheese and toppings. It was good sized and tasted great. The prices were reasonable. Being so busy it is a noisy place. Service was very friendly and efficient.

My wife and I were enjoying a weekend getaway and found this place along Main St. where we were staying. We were immediately seated at a table near the front windows. Our waitress promptly greeted us and took our drink orders. Our Margarita and Lynchburg Lemonade arrived quickly and were delicious. My wife ordered the crab and shrimp quesadilla and I got the Nauti Philly. The Philly was very hot and gooey with lots of cheese and shaved ribeye, along with onions and mushrooms. The Cole slaw did not disappoint either. Very tasty! The crab and shrimp quesadilla was quite nice as well. Lots of meat and the portion size was like a meal considering my wife ordered from the starters menu. All in all, the atmosphere was lively, the service was all you could ask for and the food was on point. Not one negative! Great job folks!

The food took forever to get. Was cold and some of it was burnt. New owners need to go back to how it was done before.

After new ownership nothing has changed - good thing. Brandi is a great bartender. Actually the quesadillas are really good and hearty- served with sour cream and marinara sauce. Ambiance is low key depending on the night.

Love to have lunch here. If you are trying to keep away from carbs the Hamburg lettuce wraps are great. A taco seasoned beef with tomatoes, onions on romaine wraps. I am a crazy coleslaw connoisseur and love the creamy type, this is the best I've had. My husband had a cheesesteak sandwich with fries, not so much for the figure watchers but if you are in need of your dose of fries and a cheesy, meaty sandwich this is the ticket. Our server was very pleasant and very attentive. The ambience is more of a busy talkative environment, great for meeting people. A comfortable casual nautical vibe. Although it appeared busy, we were seated within five minutes. Great stop on your visit to Washington or lunch mid workday!

Shrimp Rice plate

Have been by this place a few times and always wanted to try it out. Went for lunch on Friday. Very busy and was seated up front. Hostess was prompt and nice and ended up being my server. I ordered the shrimp and rice lunch which was very reasonably priced and came with a side salad. This should've been my warning looking at the price. The salad was fine , Caesar's salad. The shrimp and rice was delivered and I did a double take and looked at the food and up at her. I have never seen something so horribly cooked and on top of that presented to the customer. The rice looked as if it was taken out of a little microwave bag and tossed on the plate. The shrimp were supposed to be "blackened" but basically has some light butter with maybe some pepper in it. They weren't grilled but barely cooked. If I was a chef and cared anything about my job I couldn't for the life let something off my line that looked like this or was cooked like this. As a waitress I would never accept this from my cook staff so the fact she delivered it to me and thought it was "good enough" said all I needed to know about this place. It was priced well but even then I was embarrassed for them. I should've sent back but I didn't want to be "that guy" next to a table full of ladies trying to enjoy their day. The picture is untouched and just as she delivered the food to me. I did not have a single bite before taking the pic.

Shrimp Lettuce wraps, asked for tai sauce on side.

First experience at Down on Mainstreet and did not disappoint! (Wednesday 5:30) We will be back! Why, the food was excellent if not exceptional, and the wait staff was extremely pleasant and cordial. The 3-4" deep bowl of gumbo would be comparable to NOLA. The Shrimp Lettuce Wraps had mounds of delicious flavored seasoned shrimp. I asked for my tai sauce on side, as first time trying the way I wanted. The key lime pie, in house made as were told by our delightful waitress Timia, was nice and tart the way key lime pie is to taste. Clean restaurant, floor- tables to utensils. Was told by Timia that the restaurant has specials throughout the week from beers to food. Her pleasantness is one reason we will be back soon.

Really good eats for a reasonable price. Great local joint. I hadn't had anything bad here. Good sandwiches, good drinks and good service.

The food is mediocre at best. Service was friendly but slow. After a couple of honest tries to like the place, I just don't.

Stopped in for lunch when passing through on a road trip. Definitely worth the 20 min wait for a table. !

She was incredibly sweet and attentive. She seemed a little nervous at first, but she did a great job and made us feel very welcome throughout our meal. I ordered the Crispy Rice Tuna Salad, and it was excellent. The tuna was fresh, the combination of textures was fantastic, and the portion was much larger than I expected--I couldn't finish it. I also appreciated that the menu offered a good variety of choices, from lighter dishes to more indulgent options. The restaurant itself has a cozy, eclectic atmosphere with interesting décor that makes it feel like a hidden gem tucked away in downtown Washington. Add in the fact that they're open on Mondays when many nearby restaurants are closed, and Blu becomes an easy recommendation. I'll definitely return the next time I'm in town.

After numerous trips I still can't put my finger on what exactly is done differently at Blu to outperform so many fantastic restaurants. It's as if they have somehow managed the flavors of a Michelin restaurant with plating that isn't so... boring and sterile. Portion sizes are more than adequate, none of that one taste nonsense here. The service is always fantastic, professional and friendly. The owner is occasionally willing to share recipes with you and has never disappointed me with a recommendation. The cocktails? Just "wow". Perhaps what makes this place so fabulous is that they manage to do so well in so many categories. I'll consider that more in depth next time I make a reservation which may just have to be today. Speaking of, if you don't make a reservation, don't be disappointed when you don't have a seat. This isn't a place you can always walk in and sit down. They don't have many tables and it's obvious that they aren't the type of place to sit more people than they can take care of. Take some time, enjoy a drink and one of the best meals you'll have in the area. You won't regret it!

They have a nice selection of cocktails, many of which seem crafted to honor the local vibe. I had a cocktail containing a house distilled gin. Delicious. They also let my husband sample two of the house distilled gins before he ordered a gin and tonic. He was very happy. Kennedy, our friendly, knowledgeable server, brought out complimentary cornbread with brown butter/molasses butter and tomato soup shooters. Yum. They offer two- and three-course price fix menus, and for a few dollars more, you can make it a wine pairing. My husband did that, and I ordered off of the regular menu. His collard green salad was sensational! He couldn't stop raving about it even as he was finishing it up. His second course was filet mignon, and it was the most savory, tasty filet I've ever had! I had lemon risotto with asparagus and tomatoes - it was delicious as well. We were at the Hackney to celebrate closing on our house in Washington, and we made the perfect choice for a celebratory dinner. We will be back!

I had just left an adult family pajama party and I got a little lit. I ordered my usual, Texas bacon cheesesteak melt with hashbrowns and orange juice. Then I proceeded to use the restroom. I planned to do so first but was occupied. I decided to sit at the bar as I came solo. When I returned from the restroom, my OJ was ready in a plastic cup. I noticed most of the staff i holiday attire. The exception was my server who was in typically Waffle House attire. My Server assumed I was ordering to go. I noticed the cook putting my order in a to go tray and I asked a different server if I could eat here and she said yes. By the time it was all said and done, my food was already packaged up. I sat inside and ate. My food was ready within 5 minutes. Joshua was the cook. Around 2:50pm, I ordered a waffle lol. By this time, it was just me in there. I bought some Touch Tunes credits and was vibing. ---- I went back the next day (Christmas) around 12:20pm as they were really the only place open. It was really busy. Luckily, there were two seats at the bar for my son and I. Our waitress was Lakeland (maybe spelled incorrectly) Around 12:25pm, I went ahead and ordered my son food. He got a kids waffle with peanut butter and chocolate chips plus bacon. At 12:27pm, I ordered my food. I got the all star with hashbrowns, blueberry waffle, and bacon. My son received his food at 12:30pm. The bacon looked perfectly crispy while his waffle was over cooked. I received my food at 12:38pm. Not gonna lie, I was initially concerned about my waffle because it looked like mold lol. BUT, it tasted fine lol. The Bacon was crispy and delicious. The toast was great as well. Another good experience!
