If you're going to only get one thing from this place, it has to be the Lobster and Crab Grilled Cheese sandwich. It was hands down the best grilled cheese I have ever had. The bf and I split that sandwich as well as a Lava Shrimp dish and that was plenty of food for the both of us. Although I had seen a lot of positive reviews on the Lava shrimp, I wasn't that impressed with the dish. Being that we just had a heavy sandwich, eating a bunch of fried shrimp didn't really pair well. I think this dish could actually be better if it was sauteed shrimp instead. It's located at The Wharf in Lahaina, Maui and it's definitely a place I wouldn't mind coming back to if I lived on the island. The restaurant is an open-air spot where you order at the counter and find your own seats. What makes the atmosphere more enjoyable is the free live entertainment. I only got to try this place once. My husband and I ordered the lobster and crab grilled cheese sandwich. I absolutely loved it! There was a great amount of crab and lobster in the sandwich with some greens. There was their "lava lava" sauce, which is a spicy aioli that they put on pretty much everything. We have been here many times during our stay. Whether it be breakfast/ lunch/ or dinner- it's all amazing. Their breakfast fried rice was delish! During one stop I tried their Poke of the month that was served on lettuce wraps- so fresh and tasty! Their sample platter is made up of pork quesadillas, calamari, and lava lava shrimp. Def recommend trying this! But hands down my favorite dish was their lobster and crab stuff grilled cheese on Hawaiian bread with their lava lava sauce. It's ridiculously good. We have eaten at quite a few places from diners drive ins and dives and honestly most of them aren't as impressive as you would hope. This one definitely was! We started with the lava lava shrimp. It was crispy and flavorful and just the right balance of sweet and spicy. I also had the grilled Brussels sprouts with bacon and cannot recommend this enough! Such a tasty dish! My son had the fish and fries and ate every bite. It was perfectly cooked with a flaky crust that wasn't too batter heavy. My oldest had the lobster and crab stuffed grilled cheese and it was awesome but super heavy. Huge pieces of crab and lobster inside that you would easily identify and enjoy. They don't skimp! He wound up sharing with my husband and splitting half and half. My hubby has the fish tacos which were also light, tasty and flaky with just the right amount of batter. Truly perfect. Let me get this out of the way--I love the drinks (all about those lava flows!) and the lava lava shrimp at DTH. But today's visit was marred by a service mishap that could have readily been avoided. We went for breakfast--we specifically told staff we were waiting for them to start serving at 10:30-and ordered a couple of drinks and waited. The kitchen opened and...we were told they're not serving breakfast, just lunch. Even though we specifically told the front staff we were there for the breakfast menu. Sigh. By name and appearance alone, this isn't the top of restaurant I'd normally choose because I'm not a huge fan of fish/seafood. We'd heard good things about it, though, so we decided to give it a try. There was a bit of a long line to order at the counter but it moved pretty quickly despite a couple of customers taking a really long time to figure out what they wanted. While we were waiting, a man was passing out free coupons for the Lava Lava shrimp. So, we happily added that on to our order. We also ordered the Mermaid Fries and the lobster and crab sandwich. And drinks! We received our food after just a bit but our drinks never appeared so I had to check with the bartender. For some reason, they didn't seem to have a record of my order but they promptly whipped up our drinks without giving me a hard time. We loved our drinks ( Hurricane and POG Mai Tai) and really enjoyed the Mermaid Fries and that free Lava Lava Shrimp. Just like anything here, it all starts with finding a parking place but when you do the meal is well worth it! This is a true fast food / restaurant hybrid in that you order from a counter and then they run your food to a table. Seating is first come / first served which can be tricky with a big party due to DTH's popularity and seating options so it's not unusual to see people circling like sharks waiting for a party to leave. Having said that, you come here for the food which does NOT disappoint. Whether it is a monster burger, chicken and waffles, or the best sandwich I had on vacation, ahi tuna melt, you really can't go wrong here. Kids meals come with a shaved ice to the establishment next door and drinks are self serve. Hold out and look for free lava shrimp appetizer cards everywhere including your hotel most likely. If you aren't driving or have a DD have fun trying their vast collection of creative Shots. Service is outstanding and friendly but can't help with table finding but don't hold that against them. Decided to grab dinner here around sunset, before heading back to the hotel. Down a flight of stairs and they reveal a cute little courtyard with seating. We got the lava shrimp (of course) and captain's selection of fish of the day, served with vegetables. Both were goooood! I could eat that lava shrimp forever, and the fish was really fresh. This is a great little spot if you want to get some quick lunch or a drink. Guy on the food network featured this place on his diner show. You stand in line at the counter to order your food and then find a seat in the courtyard. There is usually live music while you wait and enjoy your food. We had the lava lava shrimp, Ono and Ahi tacos. The lava lava shrimp was amazing! Highly recommend this. I did see others with the poke appetizer and wished we ordered that too. The Ono and Ahi tacos were very flavorful and filling. This wasn't my favorite on their menu. Food is all tasty, but watch out for the spice level on the shrimp poboy, it can mess you up (I speak from experience).
