I love to find a local hole-in-the-wall local diner. Downtown Diner opened in 2013 and has been on my radar for a while. The tiny restaurant was packed with a line waiting for a table for New Year's Eve lunch. The wait was short, maybe 10 minutes. The place is not fancy or upscale - just salt of the earth. The tables are covered in Formica and clean. It was loud inside with all tables filled and people in a festive mood. People seemed to know each other. Homemade pies filled a case $3.75 a slice. We sat in a comfy booth. The menu is a mix of traditional breakfast and lunch items. They're famous for their one pound hamburgers. I ordered the daily special Rueben Sandwich with fries and coleslaw for only $9.50. What a deal! My meal was huge. The Rueben was on toasted marble rye. There was plenty of corn beef, sauerkraut, cheese and sauce. The fries were nice and hot. The coleslaw was thin sliced and sweet. I finished my meal with a slice of Lemon Meringue pie. The slice was generous and I shared it with my husband. Krista, our server was friendly and attentive. Drink orders are taken quickly. Food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. The staff was hustling to keep up with the packed house. They have daily specials and a kid's menu. Parking is limited in their small lot but there is nearby street parking. read more

literally everything could be improved quite a few few years ago. It was pretty good, but it's gone downhill. The food is not as good. The service is not as prompt. It's just not good anymore. all the servers are very nice and lots about the only thing I can complement the table we sat at was Jody the food we ordered wasn't very good. There were two places to get breakfast in town or near town. The other one was jammed and you couldn't get either a parking spot or a table so we need to have a quick breakfast and we went to downtown diner we will never do that again. read more

I'm from out of state and finding a decent place to eat is always a challenge. For some weird reason, I like to have a traditional breakfast which is not normal for me. I don't like chain restaurants, and I'm a big supporter of small business if the price is right. This diner is probably typical of small towns, quaint, and good service. You can tell locals like it by the way the waitresses know their names. Food is above standard and the coffee is just the way I like it. None of the perfumy crap. Who decided to crush Captain Crunch and make double dipped french toast?! The Downtown Diner did! My son ordered this and I gave it a shot. Wow I'm going to try to learn how to make this at home. It's so great. This creativity would be why I love family owned diners. I am a complete gravy snob. I am from the school that you should only have white gravy with sausage in the morning. If I walk in a place and see brown gravy, I won't even try it. I believe brown gravy is for meat at lunch or dinner. So if you desire to visit the Mecca of white gravy like I do... This is your place! Soft biscuits, flavorful gravy but not greasy....perfection. Great breakfast stop! I also love people watching. This is a very good place to eat breakfast or lunch. Lunch specials each day. Service is friendly and fast. I enjoy breakfast for lunch. Burgers are good and you can add an egg. Very busy at lunch. Everything was cooked perfectly. Old style restaurant that is very clean and welcoming. Abbi is such a professional waitress. Date of visit: 05/13/2024 The service was excellent, and the coffee good. What ruined our dining experience here was that the scrambled eggs were overdone, flabby, and chopped to bits with the cook's spatula. (We know how to cut eggs ourselves; we are adults.) The pancakes were raw in the middle -- maybe the batter was too thick, but they arrived to the table cold and crumbly. I eat here often. It's always busy. Staff always friendly. Coffee never empty. Today there was a mistake with my order. They fixed it immediately. And above and beyond. They sent me a whole new plate. Most places just replace whatever was in error. Top notch. Thank u! read more

This place has great food and service. Prices are affordable. You can order off the entire menu morning or afternoon. I had the beef pot roast which was freshly made and delicious. The meat was tender. The mashed potatoes are real. My friend had the western omelette and it was loaded with cubes of ham and veggies. The upgrade for hash browns were worth it. Nice meal (lunch), affordable, and friendly staff. Oh, and it is a typical downtown diner where they offer traditional American food without a lot of frills. As I pulled into the parking lot, I could see the basic cinder block construction under the coat of blue paint. There was an covered area added to the building that probably keeps the sun off the windows and keeps the temperature from changing too much anytime someone entered. Note: The lot was nearly full! I entered into a basic dining area with a few decorations on the walls, but not much beyond that. A smaller dining area was to my right, a pie counter to my left, and the kitchen area was in the back of this 2-building into one business. I was told I could sit where I liked and grabbed a spot towards the rear. The waitress immediately noticed I was not from Frankfort (maybe my Brown County t shirt gave me away.) She brought my beverage and took my order. The special allowed me to get a salad and a half sandwich that also comes with a cookie. They all came out at the same time, so I worked on my salad first. Iceberg lettuce was chopped to bite sized pieces and served with red onion, tomatoes, croutons, and cheese. The Turkey and Swiss was served without any toppings, but they do offere some condiments. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more on the sandwich like tomato, lettuce, etc. So, although it was okay, it didn't have anything to lift it to another level of flavor. The cookie looked like it was a chip ahoy brand. Don't let the lack of frills on the outside keep you from giving this place a try. I enjoyed my meal and was treated very well by the staff. We go here often. It's small and sometimes you have to wait on a table. They are not open ling hours, so be sure to check before going. They have a solid menu, good food with large portions. I often get an omelette that I take half home because I can't eat that much! They have good servers and it's a friendly atmosphere. My husband and I had breakfast at the Downtown Diner and we both liked it. We waited longer than usual to order but the restaurant has only been open for a week and several people came in at the same time. Our waitress was a little flustered but I noticed the service was a little quicker with the other waitresses. I think she was just having a bad morning. My husband ordered the B&G's and I got a made to order omelette. Both were very good and once the order was placed the wait wasn't very long. We definately will go back again. Me and my friend were hanging out and decided to have breakfast here. We were really exited to try it for the first time but we were let down. The hash browns were very mushy and made us sick. The bacon was dry. We were VERY disappointed. (Also there were really creepy men staring at us) read more

The breakfast is fantastic. Their omelettes are made with three eggs and filled with your favorite items. The side of bacon was a quality that very few restaurants will serve. This is probably one of my most favorite places in this little slice of paradise I've been here several times and all the servers are very polite.
