I spoke to the tow company before my car even left the property at Novatos Americas Best Value. I explained it was our home it was all we had and that I was working on getting it towed. Thanks to a lifetime AAA subscription I've never had the need to choose a towing company but if your car gets towed - another situation entirely - Downtown Ignacio Tow (DIT) seems to handle the task with efficiency. Having mistakenly wound up in Dillon Beach when aiming for Inverness (don't ask) my day only grew more farcical. I returned from a hike to find that I'd parked two car lengths in front of a "no parking beyond this point" sign and the good citizens of Dillon Beach stuck it to me. A phone call to DIT (their contact info as well as that of the local police department is on a nearby sign) confirmed the obvious. Clear instructions were given as to where I could get my car (it's in Novato, but not at the address listed on yelp) and the costs involved. Oddly, even if your car is towed on Sunday, picking it up on Monday before 10 a.m. is the cheaper alternative. I appreciated being told that as the cost of the towing was already ridiculous. In response to the pandemic, DIT is set up to do business without customers having to come inside. All transactions are conducted through an open window. A yelp check-in discount of "20% off Tow Services" is offered by DIT but, despite no wording that says otherwise, they wouldn't honor it for the situation I found myself in. It's apparently of use only when you're self-requesting DIT's towing services and they really ought to clarify that in the wording of their check-in offer. I could've saved $124 had they honored their offer. Yes, you read that right. Being towed from Dillon Beach to Novato cost $620 (and would have been more than $700 had I picked the car up on Sunday). Moral of this story: Getting your car towed from anywhere is likely expensive and ire-inducing. Getting it towed from Dillon Beach (billed at 2 hours round-trip from DIT's Novato location) is all of that and probably about $300 more. read more

I recently sold a Suburban to someone who a. Didn't register it right away and b. Doesn't understand no parking signs. So he called me up and needed me to get his truck out of impound because I was still technically the registered owner. I'm giving three stars because the tow and storage fees are just absolutely ludicrous. I know it's a business and businesses exist to make money - heck, I'm a business owner myself. But just because this industry tends to overcharge doesn't mean Downtown Ignacio Tow has to do the same thing. Otherwise, they were very accommodating regarding the situation, and although they did miss an appointment I made with them to get the truck out, we worked it out and I didn't have to make a second trip. Downtown Ignacio Tow illegally towed a family member's car from a parking space with no signage or pavement markings to indicate that it was restricted parking subject to towing. They did so at the request of Barbier Security, who was working under contract for View at Marin apartment complex at 300 Channing Way in San Rafael. Having contacted the police to report the car stolen, he was informed that the car had been towed and was directed to call Downtown Ignacio Tow. The person who answered his call confirmed they had his car and told him that if he wanted to get it right away, it would be an additional $200 on top of the $400 fee. They also volunteered that they'd picked up quite a few other cars from the same parking lot that night. Obviously, it was not clear to others that it was restricted parking either. How could it have been, seeing as there were no signs or marking in the spaces. While being extorted out of $400 to retrieve the car, the guy at Downtown Ignacio Tow assured us he had every right to tow the car despite the lack of signage and unmarked spaces, and that he'd confirm he'd "met the letter of the law" with his attorney prior to doing so. He'd obviously given forethought to how he"d respond to being called out for engaging in predatory towing practices to pad his wallet. Bottom line... The guy is a smarmy crook, and this business is not worthy of your trust. read more

My car was stolen, found by the sheriffs department, and towed by these guys. They gave me the runaround, and would t accept the paperwork and cash that the sherries department gave me. I had to go back to the sherif to get paperwork to say that I didn't need the paperwork the tow company wanted. And they were total jerks about the whole situation, literally laughing at me and telling me I hadn't really made a police report at all. I had my van towed by this company. During transit while braking my vehicle broke off the straps and slammed into the cab of the vehicle with my son and I as passengers. The van is a custom made 4x4 vehicle. Insurance would only cover factory replacements. I'm out thousands of dollars. Heartbreaking experience. I was not able to get to Navoto because I live in grass valley after my vehicle was gone and I had no place to live .. that's why It took me that long to go try to get the bike. I had called and asked how much it would be to get it that's when I tried to tell them what happened they didn't have time to listen and hung up. When I did get there they told me $4600. All they did was store a motorcycle for a little over a month . I tried again telling them what I just went through they again didn't want to here it . Sunday really didn't go as planned. I took my pups for a nice walk out along highway 37 and then came back and made a really dumb mistake (refer to photo for evidence). I tried calling two other local tow companies and was referred to Downtown Ignacio Tow. Tony answered the phone promptly (despite Yelp saying they are closed Sundays) and he was able to have a truck out to me in about 40 minutes. My son used my car and parked it by the community pool at contempo marin around 11:30 pm on May 3rd. He thought since he'd only be there a few hours, it would be ok to park there; but sadly, contempo had my car towed around 1:20 am by Downtown Ignacio tow. I called the place a little after 2:00 am. Ryan answered the phone, said my car would be there within the hour as his tech was out on the field, hmmm.. BS! I decided to drive there anyways. Note to self: They are located at 106-A Galli Drive, Novato and not at 25 Paramon Way as stated on their page (Ryan never mentioned that detail) My car was there indeed... When it was time to pay the bill, I expressed I had not worked in 6 weeks #COVID-19 and since my car was only there for less than an hour, I kindly asked if I could get a break. Dude points his finger over the counter, to the right and tells me that the fee is posted on the board, which indirectly meant: "FUBiatch, you aint getting a discount!" Fee goes as follow: ~ $275 for Towing ~ $125 for Gate Fee (was that for them to open and close the gate?!!) ~ $70 for 1 day Storage (my car was there for less than an hour) A grand total of $470 :( Today, I decided to go on Yelp! to read about what people had to say about this place. I had no intention to write a review until I saw that the company actually offered a 20% check'in online discount, I was dumbfounded & felt inspired to write a review just to say: "Shame on you Ryan! Good for you for working & having an income, not everyone has that privilege right now. You could have offered that discount. Considering the circumstances, it would have been a beautiful act of kindness." While I wish I would have caught the driver's name, I can tell you that they recently saved my bacon in a stalled rental car. For unknown reasons, the car died in the middle of the intersection off 101 and Ignacio Blvd . It was 1 in the morning, we were lost near my hotel, some sketchy guy was walking toward our vehicle when a tow driver happened by and let me know my headlights were off. When I let him know, not only were the headlights off but the car was dead, he stopped and assist us in getting the car restarted, he scared off the sketchy guy and then waited to make sure the car was moving and gave directions before he drove off. We called before 8am & they wouldn't confirm if they had my vehicle until they opened. Understandable policy, as no one was likely on site until that time. If they take calls 24/7 to provide road side assistance aka make a profit, why can't they also provide a decent customer experience 24/7 also? Robert Taylor, the owner, was at the front desk & I politely asked him how my car had been transported. I discovered it had not been put on a flatbed, I expressed concern as my car sits low to the ground. He condescendingly remarked to contact the car manufacturer to verify his remarks at which time I stated I had worked for them for years & had never seen our cars towed other than via flatbed. During further explanation he was interrupted/undermined by a woman who took over with a very aggressive & rude tone. That interaction over, I was waiting for them to process payment. During which I made a comment to my partner; that "it was Bullsh!@ that the single time he didn't get a guest parking permit I was towed". I typically don't use cuss words, yet I was frustrated because we were be gouged $345 during this pandemic, for towing my car all of 5.9 miles & holding it for only 9.5hrs. Granted I shouldn't have cursed, the woman barked at me not to cuss in her office. I said I was having a private conversation, it was not directed at them & that this was not the 1st time she had been rude & aggressive toward me. I stated I should be allowed to inquire how my property was transported without having to endure her rude behavior. She called me "a child" (I'm in my late 30's) & said I needed to leave the office. I told her I refused to do so until my property (license & registration) & copies of the paperwork I had signed (which I had been asked to sign prior to inspecting my car) were provided to me. She said the copies would be in my car & to leave, I had to repeat myself again before Robert handed them to me. She threateningly stood and started to approach, so I walked out, as I did so she made a derogatory personal remark about me to my partner. They brought my car, I looked it over & noticed one of my 2 tail pipe covers was missing. I walked to the door of the office did not enter & politely asked if someone could come look at my car. The same woman started hysterically laughing & saying "I told you she'd be back" repeatedly, & continued to laugh loudly as I walked back to my car. Robert & the other employee came out & I explained the tail pipe cover was there the last time I washed my car & asked they look into it. He returned stating it was missing in the photo they had taken when they picked up my car. I asked to see the photo they refused & told me to contact security at the apartment complex. This was a bad experience was made worse by utter rudeness. I doubt they would treat people like this if we were customers at will rather than by default. If I'm paying for something, in my book, I'm the customer & should be treated at the very least with some decency. If I could give zero stars I would. This afternoon my car broke down on 101 South. I called AAA and told them my exact location and waited for the driver to show up. About 10 minutes later, a Freeway Service Patrol truck came to help me. The guy was REALLY nice. He offered to tow me off of the freeway, but since it was about the same time as when AAA was supposed to arrive, and my boyfriend was only an exit up on his way with the AAA card, I decided to stay where I was. Although I was parked on the freeway, I was on the shoulder and not obstructing traffic. So my boyfriend arrives and parks literally 300 yards away from my car so that there would be plenty of space for AAA tow truck to park in front of me. The jack-ass from Ignacio Tow shows up - and drives past me... past the FSP and past my boyfriend. And then sits in his truck. For 5 minutes. Finally, the FSP guy decided to walk over and see what the problem was. The tow truck driver finally backed up and started hooking up my car. As you walked past me without even looking at me, he demands my AAA card - which my boyfriend has in his car. I tell him that and he says, " What?? Oh my god." and sighs a really long, irritated sigh. I called my boyfriend (who is park 300 yards away... and the tow dude knows this... ) and he backs up and hands him the card. Two minutes later, my boyfriend and I are still standing on the side of the freeway and the driver starts to get in his truck. We stopped him and asked if he needed to know where we wanted the truck towed (duh). He said yeah and we told him and then he shut the door and left. We didnt get a receipt. He didnt ask if we needed anything else. He didnt see if I needed a ride. So a few minutes later, my boyfriend and I are on our way home, shocked and decide to call AAA to complain. They connected us to Ignacio Tow and the "manager" or whoever it was that we talked to basically called my boyfriend a liar and said that the driver left abruptly for our safety because its dangerous to have the car on the shoulder of the freeway. I made sure to point out that the driver LEFT US ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY!!!! Anyway, the manager continually insulted my boyfriend and I and then hung up. After being hospitalized/ICU for a week 1/2/21- 1/7/21 due to being in a serious roll over car accident, I tried to get my personal property from my car and was unsuccessful the 1st time being the fact I just got out the hospital and wasn't going to argue with nobody at the tow office and left crying after refusal of releasing my personal property. Not only was the rude employees were disrespectful from start to finish but denied me my property threatening me to pay the fees for towing storage before I was able to get mystuff (against the law). Worst service and most unprofessional I've ever encountered. My daughter "thought she had" purchased a decent car from them. BAD MOVE. As per CA Law the seller is REQUIRED to provide​ the SMOG test upon sale of the vehicle -- they did not. They didn't even have the right documentation and my daughter discovered the DMV would cost her more than $700 if she were to even try to register the vehicle -- which she could not. On top of this the car broke down and when she had it inspected the vehicle had a shotty radiator. Because that failed so did the head gasket... so did the car... We tried calling to get the matter resolved by informing them it was their responsibility to have the SMOG test done. Bobbie was rude, unprofessional, and didn't even want to discuss what happened nor hear what I had to say. My daughter was also on the line and we told him this was not a legal sale because of the SMOG test and known damaged radiator (they did not disclose at the time of sale). Bobbie roared at me, telling me the seller does not have to provide the SMOG test and I didn't know what I was talking about. Well, Bobbie, here's the wording right from the DMV website (no, I'm not stupid): "When a car is sold, who is responsible for the inspection? The seller is required to provide the buyer with a valid smog inspection certification at the time of the sale or transfer. Smog certifications are good for 90 days from the date of issuance." Seems pretty clear to me... In any event, we will be bringing the vehicle back to them -- it's still theirs, and we will be asking for all our money back. They took advantage of a young lady who is only trying to get to work by selling a car they KNEW was bad, by not performing the SMOG test (likely because they already knew it would fail), and by their rude, unprofessional loud-mouthing on the phone. It had some more issues and wasn't able to drive out of the lot. Hector is AMAZING. I really like these people, this is my go-to tow company. I work in insurance and sometimes call a tow for my insureds. Never had a problem with Downtown Ignacio Tow. Best point: they almost always give the fastest estimate for how quick they will arrive on-scene. Next best point: they are nice enough to bill the insurance company, even do some research sometimes so we can reimburse the driver, even though they would get paid quicker and with less work if the poor broken-down driver would pay directly. So when my car broke down a couple weeks ago, I called the Downtown Ignacio Tow to try to set up a tow for the next morning. I was advised to call back about an hour before I needed the tow, so I did. The truck was waiting for me at my failed car, driver was nice, and I billed my insurance. But I wasn't happy with the shop I picked, so almost a week later, I called for a second tow. Same deal: professional, prompt, and no complaints. read more

Bring a mechanic with you if you do decide to buy a car because it might break down within 24 hours of purchase. The owner may or may not refuse to help you with mechanical issues even though you're now coming back as a second time customer. The owner might refuse a refund after less than 24 hours of purchase and slam a garage door in your face. This was a real experience for me. I thought Dave to be a good and honest man when I first met him. He sent me and my daughter in this car he was "confident" would be a safe and reliable car. This is basically the real life version of Matildas dad as a car salesman. Please stray away from here. Look into the three used dealerships on Redwood blvd down town. A few weeks ago I was in San Rafael late one night after a show and when I got to my car it wouldnt start. I dont have AAA but I have tow reimbursement on my insurance so I called downtown ignacio tow. I waited for literally about 7 minutes and was out of there and on my way in about 15. The driver got there, jumped my car, I signed the paperwork and was back on the road again. In addition to being extremely fast and knowledgable he was very friendly and made me feel safe which was nice since it was about 2am on a side street and I was alone...not an ideal situation for a female. So having a nice, friendly tow truck driver who was not threatening or rude or anything and made me feel completely at ease and safe was the icing on the cake. I will definately be using Ignacio Tow again in the future. read more

Having a lowered/modified car presents its own issues, and after calling 4 other tow companies turn you down when ur in a jam is a terrible feeling. When you don't feel comfortable leaving your nice car in a questionable area, without a doubt, you better call DOWNTOWN IGNACIO TOW. I had an issue with a mis-placed car key and since my car has many modifications I was extremely concerned about leaving it anywhere but my driveway. My car IS EXTREMELY LOW, and i couldn't just get ANY tow truck or tow truck company to help. I made a call to BOBBY TAYLOR, an old friend who over the years has himself owned many higher performance cars and knows how to handle them with EXTREME CARE. Bobby was well aware of my concerns about towing my car and any potential damage that could occur. He re-assured me all would be taken care of with NO ISSUES. He sent his best help to me within an hr of the call. Not only did his associate show up before the time specified, he had my car up on the truck in about 5 mins, with NO DAMAGE. Bobby sent his truck with the BEAK-AWAY BED, that was the only way to get the car up. Clearly, DIT invests in the right equipment, as I was turned down by other companies because they did not have the capability to help me. I finally made it to the dealer in time to get another key, and to drive home to park my car in a safe place. I can't thank you enough Bobby. 5 STARS FOR YOU and your company. I could't have been more impressed with the help I rec'd. I was in a real jam and had NO HELP FROM ANYONE. You really saved the day and I'll never forget that. I was stranded on my bike , marin sheriff called Ignacio tow for me , no cell service . Driver showed up , said ,finally got here . He said they charge 275 n hr , I thought how many hours could they charge me ? when we got to my house he wanted 650 $ for a tow to petaluma from back road of petaluma novato rd , which took half n hour . He said , we charge from when u call us to when we get back to the garage . I figured 1 hr maybe , but he said I will do it for 480 $ , Im giving you a deal , I said an honest price if you're a trained lawyer ,wouldn't be 275 , he shrugged and said Y the attitude ? I said , this is how anybody reacts to being GOUGED by a tow truck co . Driver tried to appear human ,by giving me a deal instead go 650$ 480 $ is him being a nice human being and treating me how he would want to be treated . LOL , he said how all the guys ride bikes at IGNACIO TOW , its why I got a " DEAL". What a joke ! I would never use them ever again , will not let AAA lapse again ! I called the Marin District Attorney for some mediation , IGNACIO TOW isn't a very reasonable business , they responded , saying they charged me a "FAIR "price for job done , I disagree !
