This company stole my car from a lot with very unclear signage for parking violations. I get that they have a job to do, but the property did a terrible job of marking. What really got me was when I went to pay my $700 30 minute ransom one of the guys working said "if you used your eyes and read you would have seen the sign". Not only did he question my ability to read, most likely because I'm a minority, but he also attacked my visual disability. I only have one functional eye. Last night at about 11pm, I had to call ATA Towing after getting two flat tires on Highway 101 in heavy rain. I must have run over something on the highway. They answered the phone right away, unlike the other company who didn't answer, and showed up quickly despite the weather. the driver was friendly, and clearly knew what he was doing. He carefully loaded my EV on a flat bed truck and suggested towing it to a nearby tire shop so I could deal with repairs in the morning. That allowed me to grab a hotel for the night instead of trying to figure everything out on the side of the road at midnight. Really appreciated the professionalism and help when I needed it most. I'd definitely recommend ATA Towing if you ever find yourself stuck in Marin County. read more

Let's acknowledge, nobody enjoys having their car towed... fine. One Monday morning, I discovered my car had been towed overnight, I took an uber to their yard, and met I'm guessing, the owner. Vehicle wasn't in my name, so he walked me through the process, and what documents were needed for release. While I waited for the registered owner to send over a notarized release form, the owner of ATA was kind enough to let me slum it in their office lobby space. I charged my phone, and waited until it was released. I took responsibility for my vehicle being towed and the consequences associated- thus, my experience was fine. They were respectful and helpful. They are all condescending scammers that think because they have a contract with the worthless Novato Police they are above the law and can treat people any way they want. They were very rude and take great pleasure in treating people awfully. When asked to tow the vehicle just outside the gate, he put it a mile down the road when there was five spots he could have put it less than 75 feet away. DO NOT choose this SCAM of a business and I use that term business very loosely!! Too bad I can't give ZERO stars! I too had to pay $720 and a $32 fee which was not disclosed ahead of time, just for an overnight stay. It was definitely a ransom situation. This place is a terrible place, and even worse is the abuse of power exercised by the employee or owner, not named Hector, he charged me a fee of 30 dollars for using the debit card, and I don't think it's legal, I explained my situation. He didn't do anything, right now my economic conditions are very bad, and I got upset and I know I didn't have the best attitude, but that doesn't give him the right to abuse the power. Yes, when I realized I had money in the bank, that's where he decided to charge me more. He also told me they closed at 4 and if I wanted to withdraw it today, they would have to charge me more because the staff had to stay. The scoundrel. When I got there, the business was still operating, even auto repairs. The website says it's open 24/7. These fraudulent people shouldn't have a business. On December 23 my 10 year old granddaughter and I were met with such intense hostile behavior from a worker at this establishment. Upon arrival we were quoted a price. As we arrived we were greeted with bright flash lights in our faces, when I asked if he could lower the light or if he needed help he said no. We proceeded into his gates. He asked if I could place my granddaughter in the car alone and lock the door I replied she's 10 I don't fill comfortable leaving her in a car. He said he would allow it this time. We preceded in he asked me to get my registration out of the car. I looked puzzled because I didn't know where my car even was at this point. He pointed with his flashlight over there. I get it out and follow him into the building. He then asked me if I was paying with cash or card. I said card he said that would be an extra 4%. I asked what was the total as I began to read what was printing on the wall. I noticed The charges did not match the prices he was quoting me, it jumped up almost double. I was confused I asked him why was it so much and his reply "I don't answer to you, do you want the car or not?" I asked Sir why the hostility? I asked if I can I see the breakdown of the charges? He said no "I don't answer to you". Now I'm confuse. I asked where was this coming from? I then pulled out my phone to record. I asked Sir what is your name? He said I don't answer to you we went back and fourth I then asked for my paperwork and DL back he refused then. He told me to call the police I said I am I asked to be let out because I did not feel safe. I called Novato Police. They were no help. Said it is a civil matter. Then a Officer radio the Officer I was talking to and I was asked once more does she want her car. I asked them to ask at what price. it had tripled in 20 minute. I told the Officer this can't be right, he said it was nothing he could do they laughed and said sorry. I left defeated and defenseless and without my vehicle. I've had three experiences with ATA towing, not by choice and never would I choose to work with them. First experience was when I tried to retrieve my motorcycle after having been in an accident and myself being hospitalized for several days. As I walked in the office, the woman was yelling and cussing out my friend who had driven me there, then as I approached the desk she turned her rage towards me. I left without my motorcycle and she followed me out the door cussing me out. I returned a couple days later with a police escort to retrieve my motorcycle and the man at the desk greeted the officer by first name and exchanged friendly hellos as if they had been long time friends. The man was cooperative and released my motorcycle at a very large price, which would have been less had the woman not been so mean. The ATA employee and the officer stood and watched, smiling, as my 70 year old father tried to push the motorcycle up the ramp into the bed of my pick up truck. They refused to help, stating liability. I was unable to help because I had broken my hand in the accident. For this most recent interaction, I had gone to the police to get a release of property so I could get my house keys, which were on the keyring of my truck key. They wanted to charge me over $600 to release the truck. I told them I do not want the truck I just need my house keys. They wanted me to call insurance and I said I would; they wanted me to call at that moment. I restated that I do not want the truck, I only want my house keys and this form given to me by the Novato Police Department is giving me permission to do so. Bobby, who was helping another gentleman at the time (and not being very considerate with him), chimed in and told Hector to report that I was refusing to call insurance, but I was not refusing to call insurance, I told them multiple times that I would. I told them they could keep the truck until I talk with my insurance I just need my house keys. After some back and forth Hector simply said ok and pointed outside. I asked are the keys in the truck? He claimed to not know. I left the office, found the keys in my truck and left the property. ATA Towing has contract with all Marin County Law Enforcement agencies. our car got towed from the hospital by police so not exactly the tow company's fault but Bobby and his crew were very nice given then circumstances and gave us plenty of time to get some personal belongings out with the property release and I'm sure if they had more time they would let us get it all but it was closing time and they let us get the rest out by appt and so all in all they were pretty nice about it which is less than I can say about other places. nice guys and were pretty accommodating. read more
