Best sushi in Monrovia, uncontested, the Dozo Wagyu roll is a piece of art.
    Yifu P.

The best sushi in Monrovia, from Service to food, applause and please make sure to try this

AYCE Sashimi. (Says 1 per order) I ordered 6 salmon, 5 bluefin, 1 albacore 1 yellowtail.

This is a conflicted review. I think for many people this may be a 3. But for specific sushi diners this may be a 4/4.5. Dined for Dinner on a Friday night 5/29/26. Pretty empty. Went for AYCE $39.99 per person. $19.99 for kids. I'll start with the highlights. The main waiter cares and wants to get things right. But I think the procedures set up seem inexperienced for a sushi restaurant. Example: No dish given to dispose of edamame shells. We ordered 5 miso soups, he gave 4 to the adults and skipped my son, then brought the 2 extra to another table I had to ask the waiter for a 5th for my son. 5/5 They use fresh wasabi. I was given a small quarter sized marble of wasabi. Noticed that it was chunky, not smooth. Tasted it and noticed it was fragrant but more subtle. I don't have too much experience with fresh wasabi, outside of restaurants that put it in the fish already for you. I asked the waiter and he said yes. Fresh wasabi. For an ayce? Wow. *Tip for owners* I read a review where they negatively judged the wasabi cause they though it was a cheaper version of the normally horseradish fake. sigh. the AYCE clientele, myself included may not full appreciate the subtlety that is freshly grated wasabi. I would give an optional charge for a fresh wasabi upgrade. $1-2 dollars. The fans will LOVE it for that price. Everyone else will happily enjoy their standard wasabi and it'll save you on the margins. 4/5 Homemade soy sauce? I believe this is what I was told. Again, like the wasabi, less punch, less salty, more fragrant. But also because I wasn't used it to, figuring out the wasabi soy sauce ratio for the fish was difficult --- cause at the higher end places they do this for you. 5/5 Sashimi Salad, big hit for my dad and wife. Basically a poke salad. Large chunks of Salmon, albacore and tuna on lettuce with a nice sauce. Easy to eat, good servings of fish. My dad ate a full dish by himself then shared with my wife. Size, big enough to share, small enough to finish on your own with no problem if no one else wanted some. I don't see myself ever leaving this place w/o ordering this more than once. 5/5 AYCE Sashimi. I thought there was limit at first. It said 1 per order. What it means is tell us how many you want, you get 1 for each you order. So, as pictured, my last round I order 6 salmon, 5 bluefin, 1 albacore, 1 yellowtail. I am normally not a fan on tuna I get in the US. It often tastes bland and watery, like a tuna popsicle. My wife loved the salmon, so think and fatty and buttery. Normal pieces, tasted almost like belly pieces. The bluefin though... oh wow, it was actually good. very good. Best pieces of fish the whole night. 5/5 Bluefish Tuna sashimi 4.5/5 Salmon Sashimi (my wife would give it a 5/5) I just had to rate the bluefin higher 4/5 Yellowtail 3/5 Albacore 4/5 Overall sushi was fine. Octopus was a bit think so a bit more chew but was fine. Rice serving is definitely on the smaller end. Fish size is medium but rice is small. *Feedback for owners* The no so goods. 3/5 Rolls. Sorry, I wish these were better. I tried to order things my parents and son would like, but honestly i didn't really enjoy most of them. Tried to find a salmon topped one for my wife and son, but almost all of them had spicy tuna or spicy salmon inside. If someone likes the taste of fish, why cover it up? If the fish is good, why cover it up? They have a soy mustard sauce on many of them. I'm not sure if this is standard or new to this restaurant. The flavor was fine... but overwhelming. My general critique on the rolls were the recipes were not balanced. Many foods has 2-4 subtle flavors paired with a sauce too strong or a flavor too strong. The bites didn't harmonize in my mouth. They often felt confusing or unclear. Yellowtail carpaccio had a jalapeno on it. The fish flavor lasted 1 sec, the jalapeno lasted 10. Just a spritz of spice was enough. It was a jalapeno seasoned with yellowtail. 2/5 Pacing was off. I saw this in another review and this is a good description. Miso soup and Edamame came out. Good. Then 3-4 rolls came out. Short ribs + beef teriyaki (son and mom). Udon came on. No sushi yet Tempura came out. 2nd Tempura came out. More rolls. long pause. Then once most of the hot stuff was cleared, the nigiri came out. I understand its an AYCE, but its a $40 meal. As a japanese sushi meal where the peak meal is a Omakase, it can go a long for the diner's experience to have a balance to the meal. 3.5/5 Short ribs and 2/5 Beef teriyaki was over seasoned in my option. Most will get them as sides, while they serve rice and udon, I would accompany them with rice generally. So being over sauced and over salted made it unappetizing to eat. Ribs were okay. 2.5/5 Edamame was overcooked? I think. Beans were missing a crunch. Not sure the cause. More mushy then crunch. Sashimi/Fish fan 4/5 - Try it. Rolls Fan 2.5/5 - Not yet.

I went during the soft opening so they were still working things out (paper cups) and not everything was available but I will say that they are off to a good start. I went here for dinner and the interiors are beautiful. Really nice and clean look. The staff instantly greeted us and walked through the ordering process, which is on an iPad like nearby Little Skewer. Once they fully open they are going to have a large menu, so I'm looking forward to that. The dishes we got were interesting. Some like my udon tasted like most Japanese restaurants except the dashi flavor was strong and the udon were really nice and chewy. Then some of the dishes like the beef tataki sort of tasted like it had a Chinese spin on it. What I really appreciated is the staff were very open to feedback and asked us how they could improve. I thought it was nice they want to make sure the customer is happy and even when I had suggestions that may not have made sense now that I think about it, they still listened to me haha. Plenty of parking. I hope this place does well, it's nice to have a Japanese place in this plaza.

    Sashimi B Set

I was craving sushi tonight, so decided to try Dozo since it was pretty close to my house. I ordered their Sashimi B Set for $48 dollars. For the price, the selection was pretty good and pretty fresh. I know they're on a soft opening right now because they're fairly new but I think they're a pretty decent place. Give them a try when you're craving some sushi.

    Naruto roll
    Brandon K.

New restaurant in the plaza with little skewers and jims burgers. Staff was attentive and wasn't a wait to sit down. Prices were reasonable for a sushi place. Didn't do a full 5 star just because some pieces of sushi was okay and the chicken bento was okay. The chicken bento would say if they want to make it better to grill or cook the chicken skin a bit more so there is some crispness or a bit if char to it. That way it gives it a better texture that would make it better. Lots of parking in the plaza. The Naruto roll was my favorite roll that I got.

I recently visited this spot during their soft opening, and I was thoroughly impressed! Even though they are just getting started, they already have a solid menu with lots of great options. The food quality is excellent. We tried a variety of dishes, including the Gyudon (beef bowl), which was flavorful and generous with the meat. The tempura was perfectly fried-light, crispy, and not greasy at all. The sashimi salad was incredibly fresh, and the presentation on the Salmon Carpaccio and the Sashimi bowl (love the fried shrimp head detail haha) was beautiful. On top of the food, the service was awesome-very attentive. The dining area is also spotless and has a nice, clean ambiance. Highly recommend checking them out.

This Japanese restaurant on the corner really exceeded my expectations. I originally thought it was just an ordinary place, but once I looked at the menu, I got really excited. There's a wide variety of options, the prices are very reasonable, and the quality is comparable to high-end Japanese restaurants in Old Town Pasadena. It's amazing--now I don't have to travel far anymore to enjoy great Japanese food!

    Tempura Udon Soup $18.00

We went during their soft opening so the menus options were limited. The food quality was good. I liked the udon soup because of the lite flavor. The staff is very nice and open to feedback.

Very fresh and sweet Great atmosphere bright and vibrant Came here for new years dinner made reservations and easy to reserve through phone call.

Prices here are average. Katsu don was 12 and I think the tuna roll was 8-9? The tuna was different from other shops like a higher grade. The wasabi wasn't strong and nor was the ginger so no single ingredient was overtaking the other. Service was great, they have a grand opening on the 18th but I would come back 100% when their menu is fully opened. Or a soft opening with little present options, it was great.

They have a lot of tables inside so it is great for small and large groups. The waiters were also fast even though they were busy. We ordered their Kung Pao Chicken, Fried Tofu, Beef Noodle, Shrimp w Walnut, and Vegetable w Garlic. We decided not to get lobster since it was pricey. They took our order pretty fast and gave tea to drink. The pot of white rice is extra $1 if you order though. And their menu book doesn't have prices for some reason. Only the to-go menu has prices. Food was served in a decent amount of time, around 15 minutes. And all dishes arrived close together so we didn't have to wait long. The kung pao chicken is so good! Not spicy at all and very nice and crispy with good seasoning. It tasted delicious with some rice. The beef noodles were also delicious! It had good wok taste and was very flavorful. The tofu and shrimp were also good. None of the dishes were too salty and all were seasoned well and in pretty big portions, though I don't remember the exact price since they took the receipt away when we paid. But the meal was very worth and we had leftovers for lunch the next day. Such a yummy meal! I really enjoyed it! I am definitely coming back again!

Boston Lobster is officially my go-to location for any|all Asian lobster cravings!! Newport…read morewho?????!!! My family and I used to religiously eat lobster noodles whenever we made a trip down to SoCal. The pick of the bunch was 100% Newport Seafood- no negotiations, no contemplations. Unfortunately, the last handful of times have left me extremely disappointed and heavily annoyed. The cost and wait times do not reflect what is actually being provided and most of our food ends up being left behind because it simply isn't worth the calories. In all honestly, I've grown a phobia w/ that specific restaurant at this point because of the countless letdowns. My initial taste of Boston Lobster was about 3 years ago and I had the most enjoyable meal. Due to our LA trip coming to an end, my BD thought we should do it big with some lobster noodles- for good old time's sake. I absolutely refused to go anywhere unless we would be giving Boston Lobster a visit! Sure enough, they did not disappoint! Dinner for 3 adults and 1 toddler consisted of: *Boston House Special Lobster [no spice] + Garlic Noodles for an additional fee. Medium Size 5-6lbs minimally. *French Style Beef Cube *Sauteed Snow Pea Leaves We ate like mf'n KINGS!! Each and every dish was spectacular- even the greens! While we should have gone with the small sized lobster, I'm proud to say we went down with an honorable fight. Lmao!! The lobster was cooked to perfection- meat was sweet, succulent, and so darn tender. The garlic noodles soaked up all of the delicious lobster flavors and were not overcooked and mush. The bo luc lac was flavorful, juicy, and complimented the bed of lettuce, onions, & tomatoes so well. The snow pea leaves weren't tough and old- this truly was a simply yet magical dish. Service was on point and the staff continually came by to swap out our plates full of lobster shells. Above all, there was no wait with our initial arrival. Parking is easy given the fact that BL has a pretty big parking lot specifically for them. 5/5 stars!! We dropped over 3 bills here and it didn't even hurt. Lmao- this place is that damn good! Don't sleep on this joint, y'all. Boston Lobster is the real deal when it comes to authentic Chinese/Vietnamese cuisine. This spot should be so much more hyped than it actually is!

Service was attentive and they checked up on us regularly. We ordered 2 dozen oysters ($1.50 each), the fish and chips ($11.50), mussels and clams ($10.50), and a beer. The oysters were fresh, mostly clean, and came with the usual accompaniments. My only minor complaint is that small seafood forks would have been nice to have available. The mussels and clams were the disappointment of the meal. While the broth itself was flavorful, the portion was downright sad. We received only 4 mussels and 4 clams total, and the bowl felt almost empty. The standout was definitely the fish and chips. Dare I say the best fish and chips I've ever had? The batter was well-seasoned without being overly salty. The fish was crispy, hot, flaky, and surprisingly not too greasy. The fries were also excellent, with a crunchy exterior and fluffy, mashed potato-like interior. I would absolutely order this again. Overall, for happy hour, come for the fresh oysters and fish and chips. Skip the embarrassingly skimpy bowl of mussels and clams.

We came here around 5:30PM and the traffic to get to Shrimp House was pretty bad. Found out that you can enter from Myrtle and from Live Oak. We were on Myrtle and went onto Live Oak thinking that was the only entrance.. that was a mistake due to the backed up traffic during the time. When we got there, we were seated at a table. It was pretty crowded, full of older people. The guests were friendly and seemed to be regulars of the place. When the waitress came to us, she took our order. We ordered: Popcorn Shrimp - Loved this sooo much! Reminds me of Sizzler. Popcorn shrimp was hot, fresh, and had a crispy batter! The actual popcorn bedding added to the theme :) 9/10 Ceviche - We got the Mexican style and it was good. Not as good at Kickin Shrimp, but it was a good appetizer to start with. 7/10 Clam Chowder - This clam chowder reminds me of Sizzler's clam chowder. It was creamy and thick, and had a few bits of clams. 7/10 Grilled Seafood Sampler - The fish was nice and flaky. Very flavorful with the seasoning that they used. The shrimp was nicely grilled. We were not a fan of the bell pepper that was on the skewer that bled into the shrimp itself. The flavor was a bit intrusive considering shrimp already has a light flavor. Finally the scallops were a pass. Just grilled, nothing amazing. 7/10 overall Shrimp Scampi Linguine - Not sure what the hype was about, but this was the most forgetful dish I had here. The linguini was a bit soft/overcooked, the fettuccini sauce was thick and not too cheesy, but more creamy, if that makes sense, and the shrimp was just shrimp (possibly the grilled shrimp) and was just drowned in the fettuccini sauce and lost any natural flavors it would've had. 3/10 Chocolate Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream: Out of the disappointing Shrimp Scampi Linguini, the Lava cake made up for it. We do not usually get dessert, but we were sure glad we got this. Similar to the pazooki from BJ's, but a hot choco cake instead. I can do without the whipped cream though, since I don't like it too much. 8/10 Overall, this place is a small, quaint place for seafood. The appeal is the hometown feel, friendly service, all while providing good, affordable seafood.

However, it keeps falling apart as you try to pick it up with the chopsticks... BEEF RICE NOODLE ROLL: 8/10 It tastes fresh and I enjoyed this one m dish the most. However, the sauce came in a plastic sauce container and was on the bland side. I preferred dipping it with hot mustard and soy sauce... PORK & SHRIMP SIUMAI: 7/10 I only tried half a piece and stopped. I'm not sure why but, it tasted like it was too dry and it was small as well. The filling of the shrimp and pork wasn't as juicy as it should be so I stopped eating it... TARO CAKE: 6/10 I took one bite and had to stop because it was TOO SALTY. Did someone drop a bag of salt into this dish while making it? SERVICE: 9/10 Good Service. They also speak English! They are attentive and will come around if you need more napkins And Togo boxes... The service is great, fast friendly and attentive. I ordered the Thai Combo Chow fun and it was delicious. A bargain too! $20 buck plus tip not too shabby. The place is excellent but I shaved off a star because there is no warning that you can't order Dim Sum at dinner. Not cool!

Although I was a little confused on why some dishes were plated off centered. It made me think the dish was missing some parts or something. Their service was really good and attentive. Food was flavorful and portion was pretty generous. I sometimes leave restaurants with tasting menus still hungry but I left feeling pretty content this time. Best part was the price didn't break my wallet! I thought it was pretty affordable even though this restaurant is somewhat upscale. I would recommend coming to try their new menu!
