This place is delicious! I really enjoyed it. I've been here twice and tried the fresh sashimi roll ( this one is rolled in cucumber no rice which I love!), Red dragon roll, BSC Roll, ribeye skewer and my daughter got the kids meal. I try to eat low carb keto and I like that this restaurant has a lot of options like the fresh sashimi roll, poke bowls, meat skewers and a very delicious looking menu of sashimi. I will be back to try the poke bowl and sashimi next! I would recommend trying this place out. Also, the atmosphere is nice and the servers and staff are amazing!

Great location for a quick bite to eat, the service was very fast on a Saturday afternoon. The location is roomy, and I sat at the bar with lots of space to myself. The sushi was fresh and every bite was delicious, especially the complementary corn chowder.

Sushi Kyo has been such a great addition to old town Monrovia! My friend and I stopped by for lunch and promptly started with the Kyo Sashimi, which came out beautifully presented! Our favorites from that dish were the otoro, salmon, and yellowtail but everyone else was also fresh and delicious! We also ordered the seared lime pepper salmon roll and the paradise roll and both were really good! But the seared lime pepper salmon roll was the standout for us as it had so much flavor in every bite and was generously filled with lots of fish! Everything came out fresh and beautifully plated, and the whole meal was perfect for lunch -we'll definitely be back! :)

This restaurant was great! I ate here on July 4 for lunch & it wasn't so packed that day. I walked by around dinner time & it was a full house! They start you out with free corn soup - delicious I ordered the bento box with 3 options I ordered chicken katsu, spicy tuna & fried tempura Omg this was such a large bento box I couldn't finish it but so delicious. My friends & I shared a sashimi salad which was really tasty We also got the furikake fries to share I highly recommend Service is great & since it was July 4, there wasn't any parking so we parked at the shopping center and walked over.

Sushi Kyo Japanese Restaurant is located in Old Town Monorovia. The place was very busy, but we were seated promptly. The staff were very attentive and genuinely warm. It was clear that there was a very positive staff dynamic. The restaurant had cozy vibes and nice decor. It is spacious and organized. They served us a complimentary corn soup upon arrival. It was exceptional. We tried chicken yakitori skewer, fried squid leg Baked green mussel as well as a couple of rolls. We ordered Bora bora, Salmon with blue crab, Double hamachi roll, Zen roll,Albacore tataki roll, and Popcorn roll. My goodness! All the rolls were so savory, very fresh, high quality and the portion was generous. We also got Halibut carpaccio with black truffle. It was creamy, aromatic and savory. For desserts, we got: Chocolate truffle, but the server recommended Pistachio truffle too. We ended up ordering both. I am glad we did! Pistachio is not my favorite choice, but at Sushi Kyo is a must! It was the Best! I am still craving it since we left the restaurant. The service was excellent and fast. Sushi Kyo has become my favorite sushi place. Definitely, we will come back very soon.

Honestly, new favorite spot for bento boxes and sushi! I came with a family of 9 and we called 20 minutes ahead of time and they were happy to save us a table. We were seated in a sort of intimate spot in the corner of the restaurant that "isolates" us from the rest of the restaurant. We were checked on so many times and it never felt like service was short. We were given recommendations since it was our first time here and they were all delicious! We ordered 5 bento boxes and upgraded 2 of them to the sashimi. We also shared 1 noodle dish and 3 different rolls. Before all of our entrees came, we were also given a complimentary corn soup that was magnificent. The Monrovia Roll was one of my favorites since there were so many pieces of salmon with each bite. The portions were perfect and the quality of the fish was excellent.

I returned for the 5th time in 6 months. Sushi Kyo in Monrovia has quickly become my favorite local sushi spot. This time we were there to celebrate Father's Day and had a larger group so we were able to sample more dishes. The place was almost full at 5pm and more people showed up afterwards. 1. Kyo Sashimi - this was beautifully presented and had the WOW factor. Every piece of seafood tasted fresh. This entree was definitely the STAR of the dinner. 5/5 2. Seaweed Salad - refreshing 5/5 3. Mixed Tempura - good 5/5 4. Garlic Green Beans - simple and delicious 5/5 5. Dragon roll with eel - I would have preferred a long plate for the presentation instead of cutting the roll in half 4/5 6. Stir-fried yaki udon noodles - a bit too sweet 3/5 7. Inari - spicy salmon, yellow tail - I loved these 5/5 8. French fries and fried chicken = standard 5/5 9. Asparagus roll with tuna = beautiful presentation but the texture was too mushy 3/5 10. Red-bean ice cream = 5/5 This place offers a huge menu selection and pretty much something for everyone! Service was excellent. Free parking outside.

I didnt have any expectation when I came in, just finish up the gym and was just super hungry! Surprisingly, the sushi quality are way better than I expected. The portions are way generous! For $12 dollar fried baby octopus they give like 8 pieces, for the salmon skin salad, i thought I would see this small bowl but it's actually so huge that I can be full just by eating alone. And of course the main sashimi bowl, with gorgeous display~ Look at the picture and you'll see!! Happy happy stomach! Easy parking, spacious tables, yummy food, you got all the reasons to come!!!

Much better than Mikomi Sushi if I have to be honest. Just make the walk over here instead and you won't have any regrets! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. But overall just felt the sushi was a bit more authentic (as authentic as American sushi can be I guess) and higher quality. Everything was fresh and delicious. Good variety in the menu too and the kid's meal is huge, such a great value! Will be coming here from now whenever I'm in Monrovia! We came here last time after visiting the Monrovia's farmer's market.

Keeping it short and sweet. Good ambiance, staff, and food. Price is a bit high for dinner but lunch time special looks great. Sushi feels fresh enough, curry had sufficient flavor, and my high ball was very refreshing. Would definitely come again. Only negative experience here was a family next to me. Restaurant can't do anything about that and it's more of a personal want for me to either establish kid/ family section because everything else was nice and for the price I'm paying to enjoy this food, my experiences gets a little sour when parents aren't doing anything when their kids are being unruly, watching iPad to loud, or making a slight mess in a more upscale adult oriented establishment

Finally found a new favorite sushi spot in the area! Great quality and variety of different rolls. I was surprised by the yakiudon, and it might've been my favorite dish. We had 4 rolls, okonomiyaki, Yakiudon, and 4 skewers for 6 people. Good amount and staff was really nice. would def come back for the bento set next time! Also if you have AMEX PLATINUM this is on Resy, $100 off!

3 item bento: beef teriyaki, shrimp tempura, and shrimp shumai - teriyaki was decent
    David C.

Been meaning to try this place for a long time, but I kept forgetting about it. Finally went, and unfortunately I was not impressed. The good - they are part of a large strip mall in Monrovia, so finding a parking spot is easy enough. Also, service is very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is also nicely designed and looks good overall. Too bad the food was so meh. We each got 3 item bento boxes. One bento was chicken katsu, chicken karaage, and calamari tempura. Everything was okay, but their tempura batter isn't very good and they do not have any white meat chicken, which is a minus for me. If you don't want the soup or salad, they will give you more rice. The second bento was salmon teriyaki, mixed tempura, and shrimp shumai. The teriyaki was okay. The tempura was the same disappointing batter, and the shrimp shumai are giant, overly fishy, and mushy. The final bento was beef teriyaki, shrimp tempura (give up the veggies and get a third shrimp tempura), along with the same yucky shrimp shumai. The beef teriyaki was actually just fine if nothing special. Still, I'd eat this again. The shrimp tempura had the same unsatisfactory batter. And, well the shumai were the same as the other ones - not good at all. They were so fishy and it was a Sunday, so I actually sent them back after one bite and just had them taken off the bill. Maybe there are better dishes. We don't eat sushi, so I can't speak to that. I just know that except for the beef teriyaki I doubt that I'd rush back for anything. Not the best, not the worst. Just mediocre.

Kind servers, yummy food, good ambiance. The otoro sushi was delicious. Pricey! But delicious! The paradise roll had fresh fish on top. The beef teriyaki bowl was delicious, could've used a bit more teriyaki sauce though. I would definitely return! Also I love that they give a creamed corn soup as an appetizer included in your meal. It was yummy! Also I know this is random but the women's bathroom had such a pleasant fragrance to it! It smelled like Le Labo perfume which is amazing.

They forgot entirely to bring my daughter's drink, did not bring everyone's order out even close to about at the same time (it was a large party of 7) and the server misidentified my meal so I thought they got it wrong. The chicken katsu curry and sushi were ok, but the ramen my daughter got had a strange flavor (we've had a lot of ramen) and my salmon shioyaki was not made the right way. Salmon shioyaki should be salted and grilled or broiled. The cut of salmon was wrong and it didn't taste salted at all, more like a piece of teriyaki salmon with the sauce scraped off. Lesson learned is that it's called Mikomi Sushi, so definitely stick with the sushi if you dine here. The atmosphere is nice with high ceilings and beautiful lighting and everyone working there is nice, I just found the experience disappointing and regretted that I didn't go to another Japanese restaurant.

The service was friendly and attentive without being overwhelming, and the staff kept everything moving smoothly even when the restaurant became busier later in the evening. The fish tasted fresh, which is always the most important part for me at a Japanese restaurant. The salads were also surprisingly good -- fresh, crisp, and balanced well with the rest of the meal. The sushi rolls were nicely prepared and flavorful without feeling overly heavy or overloaded with sauce. The agedashi tofu was decent but a little underwhelming compared to the rest of the dishes since the batter felt a bit too thick for my preference. I usually prefer very authentic Japanese restaurants and flavors, so the taste here felt more on the casual side for me, but it was still enjoyable overall. The pleasant vibe, fresh fish, and good service made it a comfortable place for dinner.

We got two katsu curries and 1 hamburg curry. The hamburg curry does take a little longer to prepare. Trying out the katsu curry, it was pretty salty overall. Mild spicy, but not spicy at all. The katsu is also pretty tough to eat at certain parts (usually the edge), and doesn't slice that cleanly when cutting it into smaller pieces. The miso soup was also a bit salty, but the salad was pretty nice and refreshing! We also got to try a bit of the hamburg curry and that one actually tasted better than the classic katsu curry... disappointing that even the signature misses the mark.
