    Dinner Bento Box

Honestly, new favorite spot for bento boxes and sushi! I came with a family of 9 and we called 20 minutes ahead of time and they were happy to save us a table. We were seated in a sort of intimate spot in the corner of the restaurant that "isolates" us from the rest of the restaurant. We were checked on so many times and it never felt like service was short. We were given recommendations since it was our first time here and they were all delicious! We ordered 5 bento boxes and upgraded 2 of them to the sashimi. We also shared 1 noodle dish and 3 different rolls. Before all of our entrees came, we were also given a complimentary corn soup that was magnificent. The Monrovia Roll was one of my favorites since there were so many pieces of salmon with each bite. The portions were perfect and the quality of the fish was excellent.

Sushi Kyo Japanese Restaurant is located in Old Town Monorovia. The place was very busy, but we were seated promptly. The staff were very attentive and genuinely warm. It was clear that there was a very positive staff dynamic. The restaurant had cozy vibes and nice decor. It is spacious and organized. They served us a complimentary corn soup upon arrival. It was exceptional. We tried chicken yakitori skewer, fried squid leg Baked green mussel as well as a couple of rolls. We ordered Bora bora, Salmon with blue crab, Double hamachi roll, Zen roll,Albacore tataki roll, and Popcorn roll. My goodness! All the rolls were so savory, very fresh, high quality and the portion was generous. We also got Halibut carpaccio with black truffle. It was creamy, aromatic and savory. For desserts, we got: Chocolate truffle, but the server recommended Pistachio truffle too. We ended up ordering both. I am glad we did! Pistachio is not my favorite choice, but at Sushi Kyo is a must! It was the Best! I am still craving it since we left the restaurant. The service was excellent and fast. Sushi Kyo has become my favorite sushi place. Definitely, we will come back very soon.

I returned for the 5th time in 6 months. Sushi Kyo in Monrovia has quickly become my favorite local sushi spot. This time we were there to celebrate Father's Day and had a larger group so we were able to sample more dishes. The place was almost full at 5pm and more people showed up afterwards. 1. Kyo Sashimi - this was beautifully presented and had the WOW factor. Every piece of seafood tasted fresh. This entree was definitely the STAR of the dinner. 5/5 2. Seaweed Salad - refreshing 5/5 3. Mixed Tempura - good 5/5 4. Garlic Green Beans - simple and delicious 5/5 5. Dragon roll with eel - I would have preferred a long plate for the presentation instead of cutting the roll in half 4/5 6. Stir-fried yaki udon noodles - a bit too sweet 3/5 7. Inari - spicy salmon, yellow tail - I loved these 5/5 8. French fries and fried chicken = standard 5/5 9. Asparagus roll with tuna = beautiful presentation but the texture was too mushy 3/5 10. Red-bean ice cream = 5/5 This place offers a huge menu selection and pretty much something for everyone! Service was excellent. Free parking outside.

I didnt have any expectation when I came in, just finish up the gym and was just super hungry! Surprisingly, the sushi quality are way better than I expected. The portions are way generous! For $12 dollar fried baby octopus they give like 8 pieces, for the salmon skin salad, i thought I would see this small bowl but it's actually so huge that I can be full just by eating alone. And of course the main sashimi bowl, with gorgeous display~ Look at the picture and you'll see!! Happy happy stomach! Easy parking, spacious tables, yummy food, you got all the reasons to come!!!

Much better than Mikomi Sushi if I have to be honest. Just make the walk over here instead and you won't have any regrets! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. But overall just felt the sushi was a bit more authentic (as authentic as American sushi can be I guess) and higher quality. Everything was fresh and delicious. Good variety in the menu too and the kid's meal is huge, such a great value! Will be coming here from now whenever I'm in Monrovia! We came here last time after visiting the Monrovia's farmer's market.

Huge servings and fresh sushi for a good price! We ordered the bento box with mixed tempura, with takoyaki, and karage chicken. All of the sides were incredibly well served. We also ordered 2 speciality roles and both were delicious with very fresh fish. For 2 people this was a ton of food and we took leftovers home. We will definitely be coming back to this spot! Tons of free parking in nearby parking lots.

Keeping it short and sweet. Good ambiance, staff, and food. Price is a bit high for dinner but lunch time special looks great. Sushi feels fresh enough, curry had sufficient flavor, and my high ball was very refreshing. Would definitely come again. Only negative experience here was a family next to me. Restaurant can't do anything about that and it's more of a personal want for me to either establish kid/ family section because everything else was nice and for the price I'm paying to enjoy this food, my experiences gets a little sour when parents aren't doing anything when their kids are being unruly, watching iPad to loud, or making a slight mess in a more upscale adult oriented establishment

Finally found a new favorite sushi spot in the area! Great quality and variety of different rolls. I was surprised by the yakiudon, and it might've been my favorite dish. We had 4 rolls, okonomiyaki, Yakiudon, and 4 skewers for 6 people. Good amount and staff was really nice. would def come back for the bento set next time! Also if you have AMEX PLATINUM this is on Resy, $100 off!

Love love coming here for their kyo sushi set! Very filling and fish quality is always fresh and yummy. My favorites are the oratorio, sweet shrimp and blue fin tuna. I also enjoyed their appetizer - Golden hanpen cheese which is basically this soft fish that is fried on the outside with cheese. Super soft and subtle taste of cheese which was perfect. Definitely come check them out if you're in Monrovia!

Might be my new favorite sushi place. Service is quick and all the servers are friendly. Sushi is fresh and relatively good deal for the quality you get. You also get free corn soup right when you sit down. Place is pretty spacious. I've come for lunch and the lunch special was decent. Loved the dressing on the side salad they give you. And the lunch bento comes with miso soup. I came again tonight for dinner to try their yakitori which is only available after 4pm and food was spot on again. I saw them putting our reserved signs on tables so I'm assuming they take reservations. Yakitori was decent. I wasn't blown away but it was good. The chicken was just cooked. Like I saw a tiny bit of pink from what could just be how they cook it but I mean I wasn't sure but it tasted fine and I haven't gotten sick yet so yes I rolled the dice with that one. My son got the poke bowl and it was pretty big. Nothing special other than the size. I got the maki bento - salmon, fatty tuna, yellowtail and crab - and I added the sushi. I could have just done with two rolls but my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The salmon and fatty tuna were the best. Yellowtail was pretty good. Crab was mildly disappointing. My favorite is the sweet shrimp sushi. Fresh and they deep fry the head. I got it automatically the first time I came but had to ask for it the second time. That was my only complaint. Well that and they only have two single stall restrooms which is always a pet peeve of mine for restaurants but I did see a line for the men's restroom (total surprise since it's always the women who have to wait) and a waitress told the men they could just use the women's one. Definitely coming back again to try more of the menu.

~ Best TORO ~ High quality fish! Yummy appetizers! Great price! (only had it to go) The Toro & Salmon is amazing! The spicy albacore roll is also great! I luv their jalapeño poppers! The service is nice with lots of seating inside.

This has become one of my favorite spots for casual sushi in the SGV. I've been here a few times now and they consistently serve quality sushi and sashimi. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and pretty spacious, so I've never had to wait for a table. I've tried a good mix of items here. The lemon roll was solid, and the Kyo sashimi mix has a nice variety of fish. We also tried both the Osaka chirashi and the Kyo chirashi. The Osaka is more of your standard chirashi with a good variety and solid portion. If you're feeling a little fancier, go for the Kyo chirashi. It comes with higher quality cuts and a more premium selection overall. Both were really good, and the sushi rice here is on point. I've also had their bento box where you can choose 2 to 3 items. We went with tempura, salmon kama, and albacore, and everything was delicious. One thing I really like is they give nice thick cuts of sashimi, even for pricier items like toro. The servers are always super nice which makes the experience even better. Overall, I think this place hits a really good balance. Good quality without being overly expensive, which is hard to find in the SGV. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to.

    Delicious Bento Box!

Upon the recommendation of a family member, we decided to try Sushi Kyo. As usual, before we made reservations, we did verify via Yelp, that it had a good rating. Yelp certainly didn't let us down. The food was delicious and the service was excellent! I enjoyed Kyo's bento box, and would certainly recommend it. The salmon was tender and the tempura was lightly fried to perfection. We will be returning, and forsaking our previous go to Japanese restaurant.

Free corn soup given upon arrival. Delicious, creamy and thick. Warms you up.

(: How it started: I showed up a couple min prior to their 5:30pm opening time and got welcomed in. Before I even sat down, a stranger at the corner table asked if I liked beer, to which I said yes, so he recommended the Suntory premium malt draft beer. I decided to go ahead & order it and liked it quite a bit & let the table of friends know. Before I knew it, I'd be introduced to Stan, one of the sunniest people you'll ever meet. He & his friends pretty much make the big decisions for the mall and are somewhat more involved w/ a handful of places like Tokyo Soul. It was such a privilege to be on the receiving end of their warmth, generosity, and openness. My friend & I ended up getting to try some of the items they're planning to introduce the following week (which I won't post pics of, just to keep it a surprise :P) as we continued getting to learn s'more about our new friends, interspersed by the continuation of my & my friend's own convos. We felt lucky that we got to be served by Edward too (a mentee of Stan's), who usually doesn't work that shift, but his friendliness was definitely one of the first things I noted as I got seated. The hospitality that night outshined the food only because it was like nothing I've experienced in LA. However, the food can hold its own, and though my conversations w/ my friend + Stan & co. meant I was eating my pork katsu curry rice way past its prime state, the dish was still so flavorful that it was a delight to eat even cold. What a Monday night to remember. Thank you Stan & co. for taking care of us so well!

It came with miso soup on the side and bc of the cyclospora outbreak, they weren't serving salad so refunded me $4. The beef in the curry rice was too beefy and chewy. The medium spice didn't really have a kick to it. The meat in the hayashi rice tastes like hot pot meats and the flavoring in that didn't have enough OOOMPHH if you know what I mean.
