Icho Izakaya is my new favorite place for late lunches. Their $16.99 menu is good all day from lunch to dinner. It includes two entries, soup, salad, and a little plate of edamame. Service is excellent, seating is comfortable, food is very delicious! Their hand rolls are very good too. Highly recommend!
Came here with my parents and this place was packed for dinner time. Luckily it is located in a plaza with plenty of parking so we were able to park close by. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look like anything special, but once inside, this is a very roudy place. High ceilings with lots of marble makes this place very noisy and lively. Lots of big parties were already seated and drinking shots of alcohol. It seemed like many of the sushi chefs knew the tables as well since they were constantly being called over. This was a very fun environment but might not be suited for serious of intimate conversations since the place gets pretty loud. Despite how busy everyone was, we were still well taken care of by our server and enjoyed our meal. We ordered: Yellowtail sashimi - super fresh and sweet. Definitely have to get their sashimi Salmon skin handroll - really can't go wrong with this. It was perfect and delicious Bento box with maceral - the tempura was perfectly cooked and the fish was very fresh
Amazing experience here. Prices are reasonable and taste is on par, you will not be disappointed. you will be amazed and surprised. you will even come back smelling like a Japanese restaurant authentic. They have edamame waiting for you and salad and miso soup along with hot tea part of complimentary amenities upon ordering. Again you will be pleased with the service attentiveness and if needby they have plenty of VIP rooms as well. Next time we will try the sushi boat definitely an experience!
More like a 4.5 but my whole family enjoyed their experience here. Not a very conventional Japanese restaurant--what Japanese restaurant have you been to with a Lazy Susan in the middle of the table lol Similarly, you will find a combination of Chinese and Japanese dishes here. Where else other than a buffet can you order sashimi and mapo tofu at the same time? The main draw here is their daily specials and their combinations (not bentos, everything comes out separately). I enjoyed the fact they gave us unlimited salad in a salad bowl like Olive Garden and rice. The food came out pretty darn fast and our teapot was constantly refreshed. The food itself wasn't much to write home about. The Chinese food had better reception than the Japanese food we got. The salmon collar came in two pieces. The beef teriyaki was tender but kind of a lunch size portion. The salt and pepper shrimp had Thai basil so kinda tasted like popcorn chicken seasoning. The mapo tofu had a good mala flavor. Green beans had good wok hei. Wednesday is their busiest because of half-off lobster, so we ended up waiting about 40 min for a table of 7, and then it was sold out by the time we were sat around 8. So just a heads up to avoid Wednesdays if you don't care about half-off lobster. Plenty of parking in the plaza. A very unique experience indeed.
Bang for your buck premium chirashi bowl. Their sushi is always super thick cut slices with good enough quality fish. It's like eating double a normal chirashi bowl. Minus one star cause they almost forgot our second bowl of chirashi takeout, good thing we double checked before leaving.
Their $16.99 combo is very good deal, it includes miso soup, salad and rice, you choose two items from the list, I choosed sashimi and eel roll, we also order tempura, salmon and saba, sushi, they are all delicious, the place is comfortable and can sit many, they have many private room to accommodate large groups, the service is good too, they refill my tea couple times. The check out is quick too. I am full and satisfy. I would come back for more. There is a 15 minutes wait for the table on weekends around six pm.

We ordered the sashimi boat, which turned into a pretty fun, multi-course experience. After finishing the uni, sashimi, scallops, and raw shrimp, the kitchen repurposes the ingredients: the shrimp heads get fried (super crispy and flavorful), the lobster is cooked with noodles, and the fish is turned into a comforting soup. The toro was especially good--fatty, fresh, and just melts in your mouth. Overall, a solid spot if you're looking for good value, variety, and a fun group dining experience.
Four stars vs Five because we waited about 45 min for the lobster entree on wednesday lobster special day $20.99 had to ask for a bowl of white rice cane with small miso soup, salad with a peanut dressing sesame seeds, free hot tea and edamame. But at least they didn't run out like the first time I tried this place. There's $16.99 lunch specials too. I mentioned they need to have menu with English not all in Chinese (sigh).
arrived around 11:30am, lots of people waiting for seats already. our friend made reservations and already had a seat for 6. we ordered some lunch specials and some à la carts to share. they had a special for 50% off=$20/lb lobster dishes, each lobster is roughly 1.5lb. so we've ordered a lobster noodle. we noticed other tables all had 1 lobster dish per person. must be a good deal. although they are Japanese restaurants and sashimi is fresh enough, they also have a list of chinese dishes to choose from and lunch specials are reasonably priced at $16.99 with choices of 2 out of 20 some dishes. overall the flavor is ok. sashimi portions are on the small size. chawan mushi was pretty bland, not much flavor or saltiness. grilled yellowtail collar and mackerel were pretty standard. salmon collars looked a little dry. soft shell crabs were nicely fried and flavorful. service was also ok, empty dishes were left on the table for a long time before someone came over to clean them off. as we leave around 1:30, there're still people waiting in the lobby to be seated. maybe for the nicely priced specials?!
Icho Izakaya has a variety of food ranging from sushi, Sashimi, hot dishes, Shabu Shabu, and more. We had a party of four people - one chose to order chicken katsu and the other three shared the sushi boat. The chicken katsu was pretty standard. Can't go wrong with that. The sushi boat was a pretty good experience. The sashimi portion was pretty good and was the star of the boat. The other sushi rolls were good. I think if you have a group of people, it may be worth trying the boat just for the experience. Overall, this was a pretty decent restaurant. I would want to give their hot dishes a try in the future. If you're in the mood for Japanese food, there is definitely enough variety here to satisfy your cravings!

The oysters we got were huge and very good. I also liked the quality of the sashimi and nigiri we got. The rolls were a little messy and kept falling apart a bit. Huge parking lot. Quick service as well.
I went on a Friday around 1:30 PM and it wasn't too busy. I tried the lunch combination, which includes tea, salad, miso soup, rice, and your choice of two options. I chose the mixed sashimi and mixed sushi, which had 5 pieces each -- 2 salmon, 2 yellowtail, and 1 whitefish. The fish was all very fresh and good, and everything was very tasty. I just wish there was a little more, but at $16.99, this seems pretty well priced. Also, service was very good and quick!
This is my go-to for sushi in the area- $16.99 is the popular 2 entree meal - which you can pick from an assortment of dishes- curry, California roll, tempura roll, 5 piece sashimi, tempura, etc. There are also daily deals as well. There's complimentary miso soup, garden salad, edamame, and dessert (usually). Previously they used to give a 10% discount but they have since taken it away due to oil prices. Weekends are usually busy- so I would suggest dining earlier to avoid large crowds. Overall, staff is friendly and attentive. read more
Second time dining here! I came for lunch on my first visit, and this time decided to try their dinner set. The offerings felt pretty similar, though I'm not entirely sure if the pricing differs between lunch and dinner. The food arrived hot, fresh, and satisfying, just like I remembered. Service was decent overall, but we did have to flag someone down a couple of times for water and a missing item. Nothing major--just something to keep in mind. The restaurant tends to stay pretty busy, so a little patience goes a long way. Luckily, there are TVs to keep you entertained while you wait. The ambiance has a modern Chinese aesthetic with tasteful décor that gives the space a cozy, welcoming vibe. There's also plenty of parking, and it's conveniently located near other shops if you feel like strolling around after your meal. The dinner sets are reasonably priced for the average appetite. If you're a big eater, you may want to add a couple of extra dishes, but overall it's a solid value. Definitely worth checking out if you haven't been yet! read more

You know how good the food here is when you come in on a weekday and there is a long waiting list. My children loved the food here so much that we had to bring the rest of the family here for a good sushi meal. The staff is so amazing. The interior is gorgeous. I'm pretty sure their private rooms are as well. You can have a group of 8 to 10 in the small rooms so you won't be disturbed. My next step...bring the extended family! Will update once I do exactly that. read more
Fresh seafood elegantly prepared, courtesy and responsive service, enjoyed in a private room, that's a perfect ingredient for a special occasion party. We ordered the $558 party menu for 10, it was excellent. Everyone enjoyed the food, even the guest who doesn't eat raw fish had a good variety. Both Lobster and Tai fish were prepared in two ways, partially as sashimi and partially as cooked soup or noodles. read more

This restaurant has really affordable, good quality, and delicious sushi!! It's open everyday except Monday Hours are 11am-10pm (closes at 9:30 on Sunday!) Parking was ok since there is plenty of parking but the parking structure is shared with many other businesses Service was ok but could have been more attentive and friendlier Inside was very spacious and had plenty of seating! Definitely recommend the "Combo - Choose any 2 items - $16.99" and best part is that it's available all day and daily! There are 10+ options to choose from, as well as complimentary salad, soup, and rice! I got the Combo - mixed sashimi & beef teriyaki and the sashimi had a good variety of fish and it was so fresh and delicious! The salmon was definitely my favorite! It literally melted in my mouth and was so fresh! The beef teriyaki was so tender and flavorful! The portion given was pretty generous and not too fatty! Both dishes were 9/10 The Kurotai Sa ($49.99) was amazing! The Kurotai was so juicy and fresh! Definitely recommend! It came with 2 sauces - one was tangy and the other was salty. This was 10/10! Really enjoyed the complimentary salad, soup, edamame, and dessert! The greens in the salad could have been more fresh but I really liked the sesame dressing! The dessert was a mung bean sago dessert and it was so yummy! Overall, I would definitely recommend and return! read more

If there's one thing I can say about Icho Izakaya, is that they know how to give great deals. If you have a craving for japanese, but don't want to break the bank, this is the place to go. Their 16.99 lunch special offers you two dishes ranging from sashimi, curry, katsu, and more. The meal also comes with complimentary rice, miso soup, and salad. (With free refills). The sashimi was fresh the chicken katsu and tonkatsu is decent. Salmon collar is very generous. We came on a Saturday for lunch and there wasn't a long wait. Inside looks like a dim japanese designed interior with both booths and tables. One outstanding part is their attentive service. Our servers came by many times to check on us and we've had our teas refilled multiple times without delay. If you don't expect luxury $$$$ but a decent meal and you'll be satisfied. read more
Came for dinner as a family of 3 and we were seated immediately. Service was amazing. We were immediately asked what we would like to drink and our drinks were brought out immediately afterwards. We ordered a deluxe chawashi bowl, a salmon collar, and a black dragon roll. We had plenty of food to share between 3 people and even had some leftovers to pack to go. The sushi was very fresh and fatty. They were also very generous with the eel on the roll. We will definitely be back to try their other menu items! read more

such good food here! I ordered their vegetable tempura and it's so crispy and fresh, really generous portions as well. their dragon roll is tasty as well and their ratios of all the ingredients is perfect. the food came out pretty quickly, with the exception of the salmon which came out about 10 minutes after everything else. I would recommend a reservation if you have a larger party, especially if it's the weekend. plenty of parking as it's in a big plaza. read more

I love sushi but I'm also picky. We got the combo where we picked 2 items and it came with a salad in sesame sauce, miso soup, edamame and a cup of rice. I got the eel roll and mixed sashimi. The various sashimi were cut in big fresh pieces. There was no ocean taste, which was perfect! However, the eel roll did not live up to my standards. There were large chunks of avocado and some eel skin. I felt like I was eating a roll of avocado with some eel sauce. The love boat was excellent. The eel roll here was great! The uni was good but it tasted quite bitter. The raw scallops tasted like the ocean even though they saturated it with lime sauce. The sashimi was fresh as usual. I thought the spicy tuna roll was pretty good. At the end of our meal, they served us some taro sago. I love that this is a Chinese Japanese fusion restaurant. Staff was also kind and patient. We finished all of our meals but we stayed a bit longer to chat. They came by a few times to check the table but didn't rush us to leave. Overall, it's a nice setting for families to eat and enjoy dinner for a good price. read more
3.5/5. Despite this place being called Icho Izakaya, they offer a variety of dishes, including Chinese dishes and sushi and sashimi. From the outside this place looks small, but the inside of the restaurant is actually large, comfortable and spacious. They even have rooms for larger parties. Service was mixed, some waiters were more attentive than others. Their menu offers daily specials, including a 50% off on lobster sashimi. This was my first time trying lobster sashimi, and it was pretty tasty with a similar texture to amaebi. For an additional charge, they can create a lobster porridge or lobster yakisoba with the remains of your lobster. We tried one of each, and I liked the lobster yakisoba better. As for their sushi and sashimi options, they were just okay. I got a tuna hand roll and a salmon hand roll only. They also offer specialty rolls and individual nigiris. If you order a variety of sashimi, the sushi Chef plates it on a nice boat for you, which is a nice touch. Lastly, I tried the beef tongue skewer and it comes with 3 thick pieces. I didn't see many people ordering skewers and it wasn't that great IMO, especially since it came out cold. I primarily saw people ordering Chinese food and sushi/ sashimi. Overall, the atmosphere is nice and gets the job done for a simple sushi craving but this is not an authentic Japanese Izakaya whatsoever and feels more like a Chinese restaurant. read more
Came here for the 50% off lobster deal they have on Wednesdays. I ordered the sashimi lobster, and the remaining meat was taken back to the kitchen to be made into porridge. The sashimi was very fresh and had a chewy texture, with a flavor similar to sweet shrimp. The porridge had a nice seafood flavor because of the added fish roe, but unfortunately the lobster meat itself was very salty and slimy. There were also a good amount of small lobster shell pieces mixed into the porridge. On the other hand, the lobster yi mein was excellent. It was well seasoned and aromatic. For the price, this place has great value. read more

I normally go to Red 99 next door, but felt like trying something different. I wouldn't really call this place an izakaya but they do serve some grilled items. The dinner combination is a real value at $16.99 but don't expect huge portions. It was just enough for me - one small Asian girl. The sashimi was really fresh and tasty. I liked my grilled saba too but I would probably opt for the salmon collar next time. Service is fast and it was nice and quiet in the restaurant. They have rooms too for private parties. read more

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Temple City! The sashimi here is always super fresh -- especially the toro and uni, which just melt in your mouth. The sushi rolls are beautifully presented and full of flavor, and the portions are generous. The staff are polite and attentive, and the food comes out quickly even during busy hours. The restaurant has a nice, cozy vibe -- perfect for dinner with friends or family. Came here on a weekday for lunch and there was plenty of seating as a walk in, and there was already some edmame that was available. Got the option for a combination lunch that comes with salad, miso soup, and 2 different dishes. I had the mixed sashimi and tempura. Mixed sashimi was ok, with two pieces of salmon, two tuna, and one albacore. Tempura was also ok, with two shrimp, and also a whole bunch of different vegetable vempura including squash and potato. The veggies are a bit too starch, wish there was green been or broccoli tempura instead. There are also different specials on each day of the week, had the otoro hand roll which was half off, about $7 instead of the usual $14, and it was underwhelming, with the otoro not being as fresh or fatty as I would have liked. Even with the half off discount, don't think this was very worth it. read more
Came here with a party of 4 around 11AM on a Wednesday and had to wait around 5 minutes. Got the combo which came with a shared plate of salad and edamame, miso soup, and two dishes from their combo menu. I got the Mixed Sashimi and Alaska Roll. I also got to try the Tonkotsu and Lobster Sashimi (half off lobster on Wednesdays). The salad was delicious; I really enjoyed the dressing, but I wish they provided a bit more since the amount is typically the same as if there were a party of 2. The edamame was a bit hard and undercooked. The mixed sashimi was delicious, fresh, and evenly sliced. The only downside was that the rice didn't quite stick since it did fall apart easily. The Alaska Roll was also good. Glad they didn't skimp out on the salmon and the avocado. The lobster sashimi was okay. I thought it was an interesting take since I've never had it raw. To have it cooked with noodles, it was an additional $$ and they will use your leftover lobster. So, though they had it half off on Wednesday, the price is practically the same as if you were to order lobster noodles elsewhere. The tonkotsu surprised me the most. For places that focuses on raw and cooked dishes, it can either be a hit or miss. For this dish, the meat was around 1cm, but the thickness of the batter and the crispiness was perfect. Came here for a celebration with 20-25 people and so we had our own private room with two tables. I really didn't know what to expect but heard that we were going to have banquet style food since it was a set menu. As the dishes came out one after another I couldn't help but take pictures of all of them because of how beautiful and delicious they looked. As I tried each dish it made my experience at the restaurant even greater. The sushi might be one of the freshest I've ever had. The portions are so generous and there were so many dishes included in the set including lobster noodles and soup that they keep warm on portable stove top. I was told it is about $600 per table (10 people typically) but it could definitely feed more. The servers were really nice and attentive even when I know they were extremely busy with our room and the other customers in the restaurant. I love izakayas and can't wait to come back to try other items on their menu ! read more
This is our favorite izakaya restaurant in san Gabriel area. Spacious and modern dining area that we really enjoyed spent time with large group of friends. They also have lots of private rooms for events or parties. Foods are always good here, fresh quality sashimi, perfectly cooked BBQ skewers and our favorite has to be their spicy chicken wing. Its definitely not as spicy as it looks but very flavorful. They have alot of servers running around in the dining area so they always taken care of our requests very quickly. Staffs are super friendly too. We enjoyed our time here everytime we came so far. read more
This place has some of the BEST luxury dinner sets for big parties. I absolutely their selection of sashimi. The staff is super friendly, and there's plenty of seating so the wait is never too bad. There are also private rooms which you can reserve for big groups. They also have good deals and they're a fusion restaurant so there are plenty of good options for folks who don't like raw food. read more
