My friend asked me if I ever had a Pupusa? I was like no. She was craving that so we headed to the South Side on a Sunday afternoon. We walked in and it was packed! Every seat in restaurant was taken except for table by the door. We sat and waited for our food which took an hour, not sure why? As we waited by the door, so many people came in and out of the restaurant. There was a lot of to go orders. They use, Door Dash, Uber eats and Grub hub. Every time someone left, the door would stay open and we would freeze our butts off. I had to keep getting up to close the door. Then, when I would close the door, someone would come in! Our takeout container was filled with a variety of papusas, tamales, empanadas, and yuca. The pricing is super affordable so feel free to stock up! I wasn't super into the tamales. The chicken tamale had some fatty pieces of meat and a half of a potato- which I wasn't expecting. I was introduced to this place by a coworker who swore by the papusas and I have to tell you she was right now! What can I say other than WOW! Inconspicuous from the outside and a wee bit tiny on the inside. I unfortunately have never dined in. I'm always heading someplace and need to take my order to go. The first time I visited I asked for their most popular which is the Mixta (Chicarrón, Frijoles, y Queso) and I selected Frijoles y Queso. I was blown away by the flavor and wonderful texture of the Mixta. Their chicarrón was al dente. Not mushy nor break a tooth hard. The sauce/salsa wasn't too much where it becomes a hand painting fest. Think hand full of sauce, yuck. It was perfect. Don't get me wrong. I needed a fork and knife to eat mine while my friend's hands were big enough to hold and contain all that yumminess. I just don't like getting my hands messy while eating. The frijoles and cheese was also tasty, it really was. However, you should start with everything else first because you'll be thinking about the Mixta the entire time. Is not in a good location, the parking is not good either. The inside is dated. Is like a hole in the wall but the food is plenty and flavorful. The soups are huge, the pupusas are inexpensive and yummy. The service is a hit or miss. One server was super nice and attentive and the other one couldn't care less. I was a little thrown off at first by not having the traditional salsa roja I am used to with the curtido for my pupusas. The taste is definitely there. I would say my only complaint was lack of filling on mine. I got way more masa than anything. Don't get me wrong they were delicious and the curtido was perfect. First and last time. Our waitress was rude and had an attitude. Our waitress proceeded to argue with my brother in law when he told her that his drink is not what he wanted. Her attitude was condescending and unprofessional. Two of our four orders were wrong. Our waitress did not attempt to do anything to correct the wrong orders. As we were checking out, we witnessed our waitress preparing someone's order in the kitchen as she dropped a plastic fork and she simply picked it up and placed it back in the green plastic bin where she was grabbing the forks that she was placing on the plates. I came to this restaurant with my parents on Sunday and I was very disappointed. They were pretty busy, however they should coordinate or have a game plan put in place for when they get busy. No one made eye contact, my dad had to get up to tell the girl at the register that we had been waiting for awhile. The cheese one was good, the jalapeño one was not very good. It's labeled as a, "queso con rajas de jalapeño" which translates to cheese and jalapeños slices. That is not what I got at all. The pupusa had a weird green color to it, it looked like it was avocado in my pupusa. It lacked flavor and I did not even finish it. There was no sense of urgency, no one ever apologized to us having to wait so long. The only reason I did not walk out was because I was with my parents. Orders were also being returned, not sure what was going on. I would not recommend this place & I will not be a customer again. If you want pupusa's I recommend going elsewhere. read more

I tried all 6 of the pupusas and both tamales. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach because I was full with about 3 pupusas and a tamale leftover. I highly recommend the cheese & jalapeno, and one of their meat filled offerings. The chicken tamale was also very good. I enjoyed the elote tamale, but it was more of a dessert due to its sweetness. Be sure to try the different sauces on the table and the big jar of cole slaw. Be careful though- here are a lot of little red peppers in the slaw that burn if you ingest it. My SO learned that the hard way! I also thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary punch. Today's flavor was pineapple and apple. It was so refreshing and delicious, I think I had about 4 refills!
