Though the damage was small, I knew that most mechanics squeeze every penny they can out of you. He fixed my bumper in about 5-10 minutes and when I asked him how much he said "free." Let me start by saying I am so glad to finally finding an honest and respectable mechanic. Not only is Mario a good mechanic but also a good man. I've known about this shop for years. I've even recommended quite a few people here ever since my towing days. And usually I do my own auto repairs but being so busy with work these days I don't have time to really work on my cars. So last week my Honda started to miss fire so I decided to give DPS a try. I took it in and right away Mario started working his magic. He diagnosed the problem really quickly. Mario has performed multiple repairs to multiple cars for me from simple spark plug replacement to replacing broken axels. As a young female with very little car-related knowledge, I love Mario's honest and straight forward approach. Any time I call, I can explain what the car is doing and he can give me an idea of what the problem may be. When my check engine light came on, he ran the diagnostic test for free and called promptly with the results and an estimate. He will explain the cost of parts and labor without ever trying to up-sell me. After a repair, I have never had a problem with the car or the cost unlike the times I've used Firestone. In one year, I managed to break both axels on my car. Firestone told me it was the same axel Mario had replaced, so I brought it back to Mario. He put my car on the lift and showed me the axel he had replaced in the front and the broken axel I now had in the back. Had the axel been the same one, he had said he would offer a discount on repair. And when he did repair the second axel, his price was $50 less than what Firestone quoted me. I live in San Jose but since my Dad suggested DPS I took my car in to have the starter checked. It was turning over slowly but I didn't think it needed to be replaced, I just wanted an opinion. After the car was dropped off, the shop didn't call and consult or give a quote before changing the starter. They just did it and expected payment upon pick up. I'm reluctant to give this 5-star rating because I feel like Mario is one of little secrets best kept to myself. Mario has been so fair and generous that I almost feel obligated to leave this review and share him with the rest of the internet. My first visit here was in attempt to get an answer about a whining noise coming from my car when in park and neutral. I'd first taken it to one mechanic who my dad swore - this mechanic listened to different parts of my car for about a minute or so before telling me the noise was coming from my alternator. He also charged me for the diagnosis. Based on what I'd read online about the noise I was pretty torn about the diagnosis so I then took it to Mario at DPS Auto for a second opinion. He listened to a few different parts of my car, took some notes and then told me he needed to do some research and make some phone calls to see what it could be. He called me back a couple days later to let me know the sound was coming from my transmission - he let me know that it wasn't a dire issue, but explained to me what I should lookout for that would make it dire. He also explained to me what it would cost to fix the issue should I choose to fix it later on down the line. Since then I've taken my car back to Mario for checkups and routine maintenance on a regular basis. *WARNING* THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!!! Not sure if the good reviews are family related or paid buddies. But do not trust this guy Mario. I had to drive back to LA. But my car was lagging acceleration. So, I bring by car to his shop for what I thought was a bad sensor issue. He calls me back a day later saying my car will not be drivable unless I come up with 3000 dollars for a new transmission?! I was pretty shocked. I actually believed him. I told him I obviously wasn't expecting that and that I will have to take it home to my family mechanic in LA. After paying him almost 100$ in labor fees. I end up paying for a $600 tow to LA. My uncle hits me back the same day I drop it off to say my car will be ready tomorrow. Hmm? So what was really wrong with my car..I had no engine oil..which had my transmission slipping. Also my rods were trashed. I am assuming Mario has no schooling on repairing vehicles and or is just a money sucking vampire. Either way, had like 4 issues resolved for under a 500$ job. Gave my uncle $800. Yeah. No family discount I paid for honesty. I mean damn dude. You could have made some easy cash and got a 5 star review, but you think we are all idiots out here. Not today. Mario is very trustworthy and an amazing mechanic!! He has been my mechanic for the last 5 years. For convenience (inexpensive, close to my house), I used to take my car to Walmart for oil changes . One time, at exactly 3,000 miles after a Walmart oil change, the check engine light came on but the car was running just fine. Very weird, considering that Infiniti recommends oil changes at 7,500 miles. I usually change my oil at 6,000-6,500 miles. I took the car to Mario to get it checked out. Mario found nothing wrong and explained that some one had reset the computer to turn on the check engine light at 3,000 miles, EVEN THOUGH NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. He has always gone the extra step to ensure I've had the best service possible, and he never tries to add stuff I don't need. I've had places tell me I need struts, shock, brakes, etc, just when getting my oil done, but Mario always tells me, two or three years on those struts, check the brakes again in six months, etc. He really works with my schedule to get work done, and is always willing to give a ride. read more
