Decided to give Black Bear another go since my last review wasnt stellar. This visit was much better! The service was quick and friendly! The food was yummy and we were checked on through out the service. Yay, they redeemed themselves! I would come back again as I do think they have a lot of great menu options.

I started this last month and I'm back again. We got breakfast the last time and took the biscuits home. I love their biscuits! Today's choice is an open faced turkey sandwich. Sit in Lacey's section she's great!

We ate lunch here after arriving in Vancouver since it was close to our hotel. The front desk person at our hotel recommended this place so off we went. The restaurant's ambiance is a cross between a restaurant and a lodge, and the effect works. There is ample free parking although in retrospect we should have just walked from the hotel, but we did not know. We were starving after our flight. Our waitress recommended the pot roast so I went with that. I had intended to eat only fresh fish while in the Northwest but I was not sure this diner was the place for fish. The pot roast was excellent! The meat was fall apart tender, the mashed potatoes were fresh and not from a box, and the brown gravy tied everything together. Everything was well seasoned and very flavorful. That was a great recommendation! The fresh corn on the cob was sweet and cooked perfectly. The wife opted for cod which came as large fried pieces like fish sticks, except triangular. The cod was fresh and she loved it. The fries were a disappointment, however, because they were not crispy. The kid had chocolate chip pancakes (they serve breakfast all day) and said they were the best she ever had. We finished with apple pie which was good but not quite as good as I expected. Our server was super friendly and helpful. Excellent service. The four stars are for soggy fries and a good but not great apple pie. The rest of the experience was excellent. I am not sure we will return because we have just a few days and lots of other places to try. But if we do return, I will not object.

This is a standard American food restaurant with a black bear theme. Its rustic decor is pretty kitschy but the 4 year old that was with us loved it. We went for breakfast and it was pretty good. I had the Shasta scramble which was full of veggies and came with hash browns and a biscuit. The biscuit was huge, dry and heavy. I wouldn't choose that option again. The 4 year old had the teddy bear pancake and loved it. It was pretty cute. One person with us ordered the chicken and waffles with poached eggs. The waitress for got to bring them. She finally did and apologized for forgetting. Other than that, the service was fine. This isn't an upscale spot but if you want rustic and "American" you might like this place.

Goiing out for Christmas breakfast is a huge tradition for us, and Black Bear Diner absolutely saved the day! After our previous go-to spot Shari's went downhill with all the mass closures, we were thrilled to find Black Bear open. The service was incredibly quick and friendly, and the overall ambiance was normal, even for a holiday. They were running a limited menu, but it had all our favorites. We've officially found our new Christmas tradition!

Nice clean and attractive restaurant lobby. Greeted immediately by their hostess. Party of 5 on New Year's Day seated quickly. Waitress was very attentive and friendly. Our food came on a timely manner, looked great and was delicious.

Best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. I'm 325lbs eat out 5-7 times a week, mostly breakfast. First time I e had black bear, but it won't be the last. Food was delicious, lower price then all the others places I've eaten at.

The rating remains the same. I enjoyed their breakfast. Unlike other breakfast restaurants, they don't overcook their meat. Of course, I forgot that I could split my bacon with sausage. My husband upgraded his meat to two patty sausages for an extra $1.99. They are very good. I think I will get them next time. I know their pancakes are denser than other breakfast places. This time, they seemed even denser. My husband tried their French toast instead, which is better than their pancakes. We both agree that we should try the biscuit and gravy next time. Their coffee is very good. I wish i could buy the cup :) However, getting the server to give me refills was rather difficult.

Photo speaks for itself absolutely delicious. Check out her biscuit for biscuit and gravy gigantic

Let's start off with saying the little waitress was excellent and always coming over to check to make sure we had everything. The food was fantastic. My friend and I had breakfast and it was very delicious. I recommend black bear diner definitely for breakfast. My friend had chicken fried steak Country potatoes, eggs, and oh my gosh, the biscuits were huge!!! for the biscuits and gravy. I had your basic eggs, bacon and hashbrowns, but the flavor was amazing. We will be back was not disappointed at all.

It was supposed to be a blackberry pie. Potpie instead.

I don't hand out lower reviews without much pause and consideration. We stopped in here a few weeks ago for the first time for a Sunday morning breakfast. We all know my #1 favorite meal of the week is my Sunday brunch. I need eggs cooked correctly, food served hot, good coffee, and at minimum - a smile. We walked in and met with a look of disgust. I was actually uncomfortable at how unwelcome we felt. We were nearly shooed away into an uncomfortable booth and provided with sticky and dirty menus. We very obviously inconveniencing the waitress when we asked for coffees and water. Ice-less water arrived with lukewarm coffee. He ordered an omelette. I ordered a standard breakfast with ham. The one-star review was redeemed with the fact they did cook my eggs correctly. The rest was just rubbish. The hash browns were cold and mushy. The ham was tough and served cold. The "toast" seemed to lack being toasted... odd. He took about 6 bites of his omelette and put down his fork. We both declined a box to take home the leftovers. Ridiculously overpriced but they were sure happy to point out where and how to tip for their three visits to our table. This is a hard no. We won't be back. It was disappointing enough that it isn't worth trying a second time to see if it gets better. It's hrad to fail at breakfast but they have mastered the art.

We ordered their "go-to" item which is the ribeye steak: 12 full ounces of tasty tender boneless beef served on a bed of mashed potatoes. Accompaniments were a large pickled onion slice & grilled cauliflower & broccoli crowns. We ordered the steak medium but it was cooked more like medium rare. The soup & salad were some of the best openers I've had. And the chocolate mousse dessert did not disappoint. Portions were enormous. So why not 5 stars? The setting while nice, can't compare to other fine dining places that look out on rivers, fields, etc. Here we get views of a busy intersection and a strip mall parking lot. For the prices charge, one would hope for a better setting. And the extreme prices will set most folks back over $100 per diner (assuming full meals, drinks, dessert, tax & gratuities). As initially stated, this restaurant is worth it for special occasions or if cost is not a concern.

I would prefer something a little bit more done. But their steaks definitely do not disappoint. I have been to other steak houses in the Portland area. Roots beats other famous Portland steak houses by their flavor, tenderness, service, atmosphere and portion size. However, their menu items are quite pricey. My steak was nicely cooked and seasoned. The mashed potato and veggies were excellent. They topped the steak with couple pickled onion rings which was quite refreshing. And don't forget the garlic infused butter served with the steak. It was wonderful. I had my wedge salad while my husband had their soup of the day. It was a big salad which Ai appreciate. The blue cheese crumbles and salad dressing was fantastic. The chocolate mousse dessert was a piece of art. It was quite big and can be easily shared with another person. The atmosphere inside was nice and modern in a warm sense. The servers were very attentive. I am not sure what brand of root beer do they serve but it was very good.

They did replace it with a fresh one which was good. Recently though, I ordered some Halibut Fish & Chips. Again, they were overcooked, burnt, and barely edible.
