Best coffee in Simi! All of the employees are amazing. They always are happy to me and even remember my regular order! I recommend trying their seasonal blends. I think the winter blend is my favorite. Their fudge is always made fresh and is delicious. I've also tried some of their truffles which are also tasty. The special thing about this shop is the "extras" around the store. There are tons of unique decorations, cards, toys and trinkets. You keep it in your wallet, feeling "protected" and invincible, so ready to try your first experience. When the moment "comes" you're disappointed at the fact you didn't prepare, you didn't think it through. Your "brain" was elsewhere. You open the door and realize your excitement was "premature". That is the feeling I get coming to Dr Conkey's. I was excited because my friend raves about this place, and the moment I step it, the excitement drains from my body. I realize its like an old person's pharmacy selling knick knacks and polywacks. The "candy" is mostly prepackaged candy I can get at Walmart or Target, albeit a few items are made in house including (ridonkulously rich and sweet) fudge. The "coffee" drinks are all high school kids drinks, mostly fraps and sugary concoctions I don't drink anymore. I asked my friend what her favorite drink was and that's what I got, it was some strange crazily sweet frappucino that tasted like a cup of sugar (not in a good way) I guess this place just wasn't for me? I remember going to this place as a teen! Always loved the old school candy shoppe vibe they got goin on. Tucked away in a lil strip mall, this place is a hidden gym. It was closed for a bit but i'm glad they're back. I had a craving for something banana and something chocolate and coffee. And icy. Didn't see it on the menu but the guy behind the counter offered to make me a special concoction. Since I don't like a whole bunch of syrup in my drink- he subbed the banana syrup for a fresh whole banana. And when I tell you that thing was the bomb?!....it was THE BOMB! Good prices too! Went to get a coffee this morning there was a line. Someone in front of me. Her order was taken. I was next but wasn't helped. In fact I was looked right over and three others behind me had their orders taken. They blatantly didn't take my order. A woman behind me told them I was next and had been waiting but at that point I realized they were intentionally not helping me. I couldn't help notice everyone inside besides me was not a person of color. Everyone else in the store today was white but myself. It was hurtful. It's a different type of hurt being left out because of your ethnicity and the color of your skin. They did lose my business today for good. I wanted to share my story and you can make your own decision to go, but if you are a person of color there's a chance you'll be skipped over like I was today. read more

This review reflects not only the quality of the products I purchased but the atmosphere of the entire store. The "cafe" or so to speak is in the back. You have to walk through shelves of candy and piles of American propaganda to get there. I ordered a few iced vanilla lattes with soy milk which tasted like sugary vanilla water. The coffee itself isn't too pricy but the pickings are slim, especially if you're dairy-free or vegan. To my disappointment, they didn't offer oat milk or any vegan pastries, which was really surprising, as Sprouts is their next-door neighbor, and the demographic they cater to is quite young. Needless to say, being in this store feels like being trapped in some rural souvenir shop in some little patriotic town in the late 80s. I was hesitant to even enter because there was a swarm of unmasked c*ps at the entrance shaking their heads at my party and myself. I was convinced they were going to bar us from entering for a stop and frisk. I asked one of the employees what the deal with all the cops was and they told me they frequent the place for discount coffee. I should have figured with the entire city of Simi Valley being a shrine to retired law enforcement and vets but it made my experience ridiculously uncomfortable. As much as I prefer to shop and dine at small, locally-owned stores and restaurants, I won't ever return to this place. Hoping someone in Simi opens a minority-owned coffee shop soon. I'll support it in a heartbeat. read more

I just moved to Simi and I have only been to Dr Conkey's twice but both times were great. The first time I just stopped by to buy some pastries for my parents on the way to their house. They LOVED them. The second time I stopped for a Cosmic Blizzard (AMAZING) and a cranberry scone.
