My first visit at Dr. Jon's was a while back. It was a new patient consultation. The visit was good - Dr. Jon and his team were very kind and very thorough. He told me every thing I needed to know, good and bad. I decided to go to him not only because of his Yelp reviews but because my in-laws also recommended his office. However, I held off on writing a review until after yesterday's visit. I needed a Deep Cleaning (root cleaning) done, two of them actually, and my first of the two visits was yesterday. I was very anxious about the whole appointment. So anxious, I got my appointment time mixed up and showed up ten minutes late. Upon arriving, Sarah greeted me right away and asked if it was okay to have a dental student shadow the procedure. My gums need a lot of work so I thought to myself, at least one person could benefit from my shortcomings - I agreed. This procedure required anesthesia that made me even more anxious that I could feel my heart beat outside my chest even before we began. BUT, from the moment I put those tinted glasses on to the time I sat up out of the chair, Sarah made that visit one hundred times easier than I had built it up to be. Ironically, all the educating she was doing during my procedure was really calming to me. Maybe when I go for round two, she'll have another student. :) So after that novel I just wrote, here's my true review: I would highly recommend Dr. Jon and his team of professionals for your dental needs. Why? In part because I was extremely satisfied with the care that I received during a procedure that made me anxious; not to mention, I'm hoping to get the second round sooner than scheduled just to have my whole mouth "cleaned". But mostly because after my visit there, caring for my teeth has become much more to me than it ever has. After my visit, I look forward to my five minute (sometimes longer) sessions of brushing my teeth, flossing, brushing again (because I love my Sonicare - which I bought from them), then rinsing with Listerine. So much, I even play Pandora while I do so just so I can use my toothbrush longer. Because of them I am no longer afraid to floss...and that says a lot. Absolutely love this office! read more

Wow! Dr. Jon is awesome! I am in the camp of loathing going to the dentist. I had a dental emergency, of course, and they got me in right away (even though I was a new patient). Dr. Jon has a very calm demeanor and that helped me feel at ease immediately. He was very gentle and knew right away that I would need a root canal on my excruciatingly painful tooth. Today was my first visit there and I loved it. I had been there before for my kids and I liked it. Everything is very clean, the staff is really nice and friendly and dr.Jon is excellent. I highly recommend this office. I got my first exam, X-rays,pics and the cleaning today and they did an awesome job. I couldn't be happier. Six months ago I went to see Dr. Jon to have a tooth removed. He recommended I replace the tooth with an implant. Dr. Jon explained the procedure to me step-by-step. When I called with questions his staff got right back to me with answers. Everyone in the office is professional and courteous. I cannot thank Dr. Jonathan Vongschanphen enough! I had a "dental emergency" on a Sunday, panicked, I immediately went on to yelp trying to find a dentist who can help me etc. I stumbled upon all the great reviews Dr. Jon already had, so I thought if I was to go to any dentist, I would want it to be with him and his team. I was able to locate him on facebook, so I wrote him a message about my dental emergency in hopes of him responding... he responded promptly and was able to go out of his way to help me out (Remember it was a Sunday..his day off.. and he was still willing to help)..He was able to see me first thing the very next morning, and he finished quicker than he said he would! He was very professional and precise. He took his time and did a wonderful job. I WASN'T EVEN A PATIENT OF HIS, and he took his time to reach out to me in my time of "crisis" basically, and he let me know that everything was going to be alright, and I really felt at ease. Overall, I feel as though Dr. Jon went above and beyond, and I would highly recommend him and his friendly staff. read more

Not only is he a TOP-NOTCH dentist, he has a wonderful, compassionate heart, and is simply an all around great guy. Oh did I mention this guy is an LVI trained DDS?! Meaning...he pays for himself and his staff, to fly out to the LVI institute and get advanced training in the latest, trusted and proven dental practices every year. Some times more than once. I'm not talking about the standard re-certs that all Drs have to get every year to maintain their license. I'm talking that, plus, plus, plus. Not to mention the handpicked, first-rate employees that meet any needs that may arise and really explain what to expect in a concise yet understandable way. His office manager Rosa (truly a gem btw) happens also be the one who answers your calls, schedules your appointments, and streamlines his schedule. What a smart idea. Every time I go in for my annual checkup I think to myself....if Barneys offered dental services...this would be it. Everything just seems to. . . .flow. Trust me when I say that he is worth the one (no more than 2) month wait. On a side note about that; being booked out is actually a great sign when looking for a dentist. Let's put it this way; if you can get in to see a new (new to you that is) dentist in one to two days for a non emergent , routine visit, including a cleaning, the dentist is either brand spanking new (not a bad thing if that's the case) or more likely it points to signs of mistrust/dissatisfaction by the patients they have seen. Otherwise those new paients would then become established and be returning year after year, therefore filling up his schedule. I hope that all made sense. I am nearly 68 years old, and began my very early adulthood with a mouthful of bad teeth, thanks to bad dentistry and genetics. Very few of my adult years have passed without at least ONE dental emergency. I've experienced a lot of pain, expense, and even bad health, inspite of practically living in the dentist's chair. I've had a number of dentists; some bad, and some quite good. So believe me, when I say that Dr. Jon is THE BEST, I have some experience as a dental patient to draw on. One of the things I appreciate the most about Dr. Jon is his willingness to take the time to explain the different options for treatment, and his honest assessment of how well each procedure will hold up. I'm never made to feel that I ask too many questions, or that I don't really need to know! Secondly, his equipment and office are state-of-the art. Dr Jon obviously has a passion for what he does. Most recently, he repaired some decay and replaced the failing fillings in my two upper front teeth, and bonded them. I teared up when I saw the result! He's really an artist. If you find a guy who loves his work, he'll be good at it. And oh, did I mention that he is incredibly gentle and compassionate? Last but not least, he has a wonderful staff. Especially, kudos to his admin assistant, Rose. She has many years experience working with billing and insurance, and has been great about helping me get the most out of my insurance. She really, really knows the ropes, and I've come to completely trust her in the two years that I've been with Dr. Jon. She's knowledgeable, pleasant, and fun to talk to. I came to Dr. Jon after the worst dental experience of my life, so I had a lot of anxiety going back to a dentist for major restorative work. He and his staff have been AMAZING. They are all warm, comforting, caring people who really are there to support you and improve your health, no matter where you're at when you start. They actually make sure you're numb before they start work, my injection sites have never hurt beyond the initial pinch, and Dr. Jon's filling work is masterful. I've been to many dentists in my forty-something years, and Dr. Jon is incredible at what he does. I learned long ago that you cannot put a price on skilled, quality dental work. You only have one set of teeth, and you better put their care in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing! I had many very old fillings that needed to be replaced, so I spent quite a bit of time on-line reading reviews of local dentists. I wanted to find someone who could remove my amalgam fillings safely and skillfully replace them - with as little pain as possible! We ALL hate pain, right?! My search led me to Dr. Jon, and I could not be MORE satisfied with him, his work, and his staff! His shots - painless! Now, that's not something I can say of the many other dentists I've had. I believe he replaced 2 filings in one visit and 3 in another. Both times he warned that I may have some (or perhaps quite a bit) of mouth soreness from all the work he did. I had NONE! He wastes no time but does excellent work. Dr, Jon takes the time to find out what concerns you about your teeth in order to find out what he can do to make your smile, well, ...something to smile about! He and his staff make sure you are comfortable and that you're doing OK during your dental work. Dr. Jon is hands down the best dentist I have ever been to! All of his work is beautiful. He takes great pride in making your teeth look fantastic. I actually had several fillings replaced by my previous dentist in the Bay Area who also got rave reviews on Yelp. Dr. Jon noted some decay around the edges of the fillings and replaced them again and I am so glad he did! I am now able to chew pain free, which I had not been able to do since the previous fillings had been done! And cosmetically, the results were far superior. I hate going to the dentist is general but Dr. Jon is great! I would agree with other reviewers who say that his receptionist is a bit snotty because at first I was a bit turned off by her attitude. But try not to hold it against him because he and the hygienist are great! read more

Wow, what a let down. I was excited to think that I had found a great dentist and staff for my family to switch to, but apparently I was wrong. When I filled out paperwork and spoke to Rose, I let them know that I had not been to the dentist for the past year and a half because of health reasons and surgeries. They recommended a deep cleaning to bring me back to up to speed. I gave my insurance and in return received an estimate for my portion of the cost. My portion of the cost was $343 that included my $50 co-pay. Pretty steep, but I wanted to get back on track. I paid my portion only to find out now that MetLife denied my claim because I had this procedure done in Nov 2014 and it will only be approved every 2 years. I was under the impression that the staff would contact Metlife to find out my benefits, which is how they came up with my portion. Every other dentist I have been to does exactly this. But not them, they say that if they contact the insurance carrier and confirm benefits for the procedure they are going to do, they would have to shut the office down because it is too much work and they would be on the phone all day. So in the end, I get to pay the portion that I thought MetLife would pay, which is an additional $484. What would have made the situation so much better, was not being told about 20 times throughout the conversation that it was all my fault for not disclosing that I had this done less than 2 years ago. Beware, if you are going to have "any" work done, ask them to pre-authorize the procedure with your insurance. I did not know that I had to ask, I thought that the person who has "insurance" or "administrator" in their title would take care of that. I spoke to Metlife and they said that the dentist office can call them and get information in less than a minute regarding the last time I had this procedure done, which would have avoided this situation. It is a shame, because Dr Jon was great as was the whole dental staff in the back. When I called the office and asked about the benefit denial, I was told that "these things happen" sometimes and unfortunately it happened to me. Wow. read more
