DO NOT take your pet to this vet. She caused deafness to my dog who was already blind by using an unnecessary ear treatment! I had my regular vet back in Chicago verify that the treatment she used is not safe for all dogs and can cause deafness in some. My dog had exceptional hearing the day I walked in, and despite his blindness was able to live a pretty normal life. Following the sound of my voice he was able to run and play with no problem. After Dr. Kate treated him (all I went in for was an allergy shot for him but she "upsold" me saying he could use ear cleaning!!). I walked out of there with a deaf dog and his hearing never came back. It changed both our worlds for the worse!! He has never been the same. If I could give NEGATIVE amount of stars I would! To top it off when I tried to speak to her about it AND sent a letter, I was completely ignored. I did get a "welcome to our practice" card in the mail a couple weeks later which only infuriated me. Do yourself a favor ...find ANY other Veterinarian in the area. Not Kate. Her license should be taken away. If I had the time and finances I'd have gone after her legally. read more

My healthy beautiful 7 year old dog was exhibiting some issues with blood in his urine, without actually examining his prostrate ( physically, anally probing the dog and seeing if it was enlarged) Dr Kate recommended him getting neutered. ( when he was just given a clean bill of health 3 months previously during an annual exam) Days before his surgery he began yelping out when he was pet, an obvious sign of a back issue, and an erect penis that wouldn't retract ( another very obvious sign of a back issue) We were assured that he would be thoroughly checked before the neuter to see if there were any issues before putting him through surgery. Dr Kate did an xray and said everything including his spine/back looked great, just mild hip dysplasia/arthritis. 48 hours after his surgery my dogs hind legs went completely paralyzed. We were heartbroken and left all weekend with no answers from Dr Kate whose office was closed and never answered our emails or phone calls. That monday we brought him into the office and he was deemed paralyzed with no guarantee of recovery so we put him down. After spending 1,000$ to get him neutered and putting our complete trust in Dr Kate our dog was dead 4 days later. When we went to pick up the ashes we really thought there would be some compassion because Dr Kate never caught those Spine/Back issues, which was told to us by Dr. Andrea Pace from UrgentVet-Sarasota were OBVIOUS when we took him that weekend to an urgent care while we were being ignored. We were told it was 400$ for his ashes and were completely blindsided we were being charged considering our dog just died days later after a 1,000$ bill for neutering.. Dr Kate physically ripped the ashes from my husband's hands and refused to let us have them. Yelling at us that it was a coincidental disc issue (which is his back and spine) even though no MRI was ever performed to confirm this. We were also threatened by the "owner" of the clinic James, which is odd considering the owner isn't a licensed Veterinarian and told he would call the cops and not give us our dogs ashes, mocked us about not being able to afford a 400$ bill, and told us the office owes us no compassion. He went in for a simple neuter,2 days later paralyzed, 4 days later dead. read more

Been very busy last two months so my cat's nails were painfully long! Petco and Petsmart in the Sarasota area lack " licensed cat groomers "-- zero cat grooming svces. So I consulted Yelp and found Dr Kate in a great location. I am a new potential client walk in. I diligently filled out her two page questionnaire " registration" which indicated I am new to the area and also have a dog. It was almost 5 pm closing time my guess and the last patient left. I thought for SURE Dr Kate would walk out ( very small total space) and converse for 5 minutes, esp since I handed in this form pronto. Nope.... no sign of the doctor. Missed opportunity to market herself. Staff sat behind a high counter chatting to one another. There was a tiny frig of refreshments and a coffee maker. No invite to help myself, just zero interaction while I waited 30 minutes fr my appt. The one thing I found " uncomfortable" was the STRONG heavy sweet scent of Vanilla Pumpkin from the medium sized candle burning on the staff counter. I like candles, but there was zero ventilation and the scent was just too sweet, heavy and unfortunately gave me a head ache. No one volunteered to give me written information of the clinic or doctor.... I had to ask for it. read more

THE BEST. I can't think of enough good words to say about the entire place. The entire staff is amazing, professional, and so caring. Dr. Kate neutered our English bulldog and did a fantastic job not only with the surgery but keeping our doggie (and family) calm about what we expected to be an awful ordeal. It is cool, very informal home-like atmosphere, unfortunately already after two visits I realized that this facility is also quite disorganized. All communication happened in the waiting room, with dogs and resident pig running around. It might be charming, but not very effective. My dog has persisting liver problems, so I had a lot of questions and concerns I was not able to address in this very rush atmosphere. All that could be forgiven, but on top of it, there is a lack of good coordination between employees and doctor, so I was mislead, and got even wrong prescription. When asked for correction, there was no apology, but ridiculous lies - and I mean serious lie after lie. I was able to return and receive back my money for those items ($101) only after haggling over, and even then the refund was in the form of clinic credit, which would force me to come back for more of this kind of treatment. It was finally reversed to a true refund after unpleasant conversation with front desk. Funny thing: to my similar review on Google dr. First visit they told me to call ahead and they would wear masks but when I arrived they were not wearing them and one of the staff simply walked away into an open doorway nearby? The second visit they said one of the staff members doesn't wear masks due to a health issue but instead told me they would come out to have the appointment at my vehicle, when I arrived they waited 10 minutes and came out saying that they changed their mind and wanted to take my pet inside alone. I said no and explained that would make me and my pet very uncomfortable and the two staff members immediately began to walk away while I was sitting in my car. I've had many vets for many cats and dogs over the years. All were wonderful, dedicated, concerned doctors. But Dr. Kate takes it to another level, making sure the pets are comfortable and unstressed while she examines them in a living room setting-- complete with leather couches-- so they feel at home. Her knowledge kept our almost 16 year old springer spaniel with us longer than we ever thought possible-- with a high quality of life. This week she operated on our new puppy, and he's back to his devilish self two days later. We have her emergency number, always, if any problems were to come up. What more can you ask? Very unprofessional. My dog was sick and Dr Kate never even came out to talk to me about it. The office staff was very unprofessional and bc I chose to do a few tests that were the least expensive option rather than what they wanted to do that started at around 400 dollars, the office staff called me and told me there was nothing they could do and to pick up my dog. Never once did Dr Kate talk to us. The last 2 check ups we had our bill was over 400 each time. They truly are about the dollar and not your pet. Also, never once did the office call just to check up on our dog. I regrettable wish I never would of brought my dog there. I hope this review helps others make a better choice than I did. My partner and I have two rescue dogs. One, Ziba, is very hard to "handle". She has a terrible past and is scared of everyone she meets. We had taken her to another vet to have her nails clipped and after about a split second the tech came out and said she would absolutely have to be sedated for them to deal with her.... We were extremely dishearten bc we know she is a good girl, she just is complicated and needs to be handled in a different way. Luckily, a friend recommended Dr.Kate. We were told that Dr Kate has more of a home feeling and is comfortable with "difficult" cases. It took about a minute for me to see the recommendation was perfect. She met our girl and immediately saw the issue and dealt with it head on. It wasn't just a nail clipping for us, it was a promise that Ziba would be in good hands from now on. Dr. Kate assured us in that one act of kindness that she would make sure Ziba would always be taken care of and she would always be safe. She didn't see her as different. She understood she was an abused dog and knows she needs special attention. A few months later Ziba started having blood in her urine. Dr Kate was able to give her xrays without sedation and let us know she had a severe case of kidney stones but we should try antibiotics rather than immediately giving her surgery! Long story short, after weeks of medicine and lots of rechecks, she was clear of stones! I honestly can't talk highly enough about this office. They go out of their way. Dr.kate called and texted us throughout the entire time we were dealing w the stones. She was NEVER unavailable to us for our questions or concerns. Thank you Dr Kate and staff. Dr Kate and staff were a unique experience all together. I was surprised to see a contemporary comfortable salon coffee bar look when I walked in... I felt like I could hang out there and feel more at home than any Starbucks. Our Lab and Golden Retriever were greeted by Piper the pig and a very sweet chocolate lab which added a special experience for myself and our dogs both. Their staff was able to answer all of our strange questions relating to diet and our efforts with homemade dog treats as well as our routine checkup needs. They even went so far as to match a competitors price on a specific medicine. You can tell there is a lot of passion from her staff about what they do. Dr Kate seems very perceptive and socially adept both towards our dogs and us. She knew my male dog needed a little extra dominance with the other animals around and to my surprise Dr Kate didn't miss a beat. She also was understanding about a personal loss in our family and how it related to one of our dogs chewing a spot on his leg out of stress. Meanwhile she was able to check ears, teeth, give a shot and clipped my dogs nails all happened very fast because he was comfortable with the attention and positive fun setting. After the fancy office and all of the special treatment I was expecting to see a huge bill for everything and it was actually priced very competitively.
