When the seasons start to change like now, I get in the mood for new shoes. This is my reason for venturing into Doc Martens in Valley Fair. Never owned a pair, but heard of this brand and the type of shoes they sell. Both sales associates were attentive and welcoming which is a plus. There are a few styles that caught my attention. In fact, I slipped on one of the boots and to my surprise was very comfortable. I am still considering getting a pair but not too sure on the color. Finally got myself a pair of Doc Martens! Took a trip to valley fair to complete some errands on a Tuesday afternoon around 3 pm. There weren't many other customers while I was there. I knew exactly what I needed to try on and the acting manager for the shift was assisting me. Sadly, their shoes don't do half sizes, so I had try a size down and a size up. With a few steps, I was impressed by the quality and finalized my purchase. The manager was nice, despite trying to upsell me insoles and wax to break in the shoes. Witnessed a mugging yesterday in the mall parking lot. Upsetting, went in the mall to report, this was the first store that we went in. The staff refused to call security for us. Asked for mall security phone number and they said they didn't have it. Staff told us to leave and walk around the mall to find a security guard. We went into another store and were immediately helped to reach security. Security was helpful after we did connect. They say, " Good shoes will take you places." The older I get, the more I want to invest in quality products that'll last a long time. I'm glad I finally took the leap and got myself a pair of Docs! I went in on a weekday and there were maybe 1-2 other people in the store, along with 2 associates. Upon reading other reviews, it sounds like a customer's experience is dependent on the sales associate. Luckily, I had a wonderful staff member helping me (I forgot to ask for her name but she looked maybe? middle eastern)! I came in looking for a similar style to Lazy Oaf x DM and she pulled out various options for me to try on. After trying 3 different styles, a couple of different sizes, and colors, I settled on the Devon Heart platforms. My petite legs have never looked so nice and long, hah! Because this is my first pair of Docs, the sales associate also informed me on how to take care of them. They have maintenance kits and other options available for things, like making your boots waterproof, protecting them from scuffing, and everyday damage. Usually head into the Docs in San Francisco , not sure if I've missed this place or it is new. Went in looking for a specific canvas high top , knew it was long shot but wanted to check it out. Small store , average selection for those Marten fans like myself. Was looking around and quickly realized what I wanted wasn't available. That was no problems , but after 20 minutes of checking out the usual stock , no support from the staff. Don't get me wrong , im the kind of person who does not like the sales person on me minute one. But no greeting and no ask if help needed after 20 min. Probably would of bought something but decided just to leave. Giving it a 3 star instead of 2 due to the well use of display space and overall nice but small mall store. Rude sales people with a blank stare in their eyes. My husband and I came here to purchase a pair of shoes for him. We've waited about 15 minutes at the door, because of COVID19 restrictions. Finally, a family of 3 has complete their purchase and came out. Sales representative asked us NOT to come in anyway and wait some more. I'm 9 months pregnant, and no-one offered me to sit down in or outside of the store. It was difficult for me to wait standing at the door of the store. No-one asked me if I was ok to wait some more. This reflects poorly on the brand, and this location, since Dr. Martens clearly doesn't care about the well being of their customers. Sure, COVID19 restrictions are valid and it is great that the team is caring about their own health. However, simple kindness and common sense aren't their strong suit, if it seems ok to them for a pregnant lady to stand at the door for an extensive period of time. I have never owned a pair of Doc Martens in my life and was excited to see what the hype was all about surrounding their shoes. Entering this location with no prior knowledge of the company, I was super curious to hear all about the quality and why their shoes were so special. As I walked around the store, my first interaction with an employee went well! He greeted me as I entered and asked if there was a particular style I was interested in trying on. He grabbed me some platform shoes and I quickly realized that I wanted something more subtle for my first pair. Unfortunately, he was helping another customer so I decided to ask another employee for a pair of shoes to try on. Her name was Grecia. She was as difficult to work with as it was pronouncing her name. When I approached and greeted her, I pointed to a pair of shoes on the wall that I was interested in trying on. After seeing the confusion on her face, I then described where the shoes were located. "Far-right, bottom row". As simple as that sounded, she was still confused. After finally identifying the shoes, she asked me, "the ones with the white shoe?". They looked like clear soles to me but apparently, they are referred to as "white". I responded, "yes". It was almost like she was irritated that I didn't have a basic understanding of the shoes already. She then left to the back room to see if they were in stock. I sat down and kept asking myself if I had done something wrong to be treated like that. There wasn't anything I could identify that justified her attitude and arrogance. As I waited, she came back and they were all sold out. In the same manner, I identified another pair of shoes to see if they were available. "Far-left, second to bottom row". Again, she made me physically touch the shoes so she could figure out which one I was talking about. Maybe it was too much for me to assume she knew her right from her left. Again to the backroom she left. Finally, something in my size. I bought the shoes and informed the manager about how unsatisfactory my first visit was at their location. He was attentive, recommended different styles, and he really went out of his way to look for our sizes in the back and found everything we needed. Avoid this Doc Martens location at all costs. *Long review and detailed for a reason. I do not usually write such yelp reviews, but if I could give this store 0 stars, I would. My boyfriend and I went to buy a pair each a couple days ago. The mall was busy and the line to wait for the store was not well marked and was a 40 minute wait. Preface to my list of complaints below, I bought women's platform chelsea's and my boyfriend bought the men's 2976 smooth leather chelsea's. He is a first time Docs owner and had no idea how the boot should fit and how sizing should be. The first pair is brought out by an ignorant manager who did not help whatsoever (but did say "just shove your foot in" when my boyfriend said they are too small and hard to get on). The manager brings out another pair that fits him almost too snug, but he buys them because they feel like they had 1/8 of an inch of room for toes. We get to the checkout and the manager said he accidentally brought out a women's size 10 pair for the first ones he tried on. My boyfriend is normally a 12 size shoe for reference. The manager checking us out said he could exchange them if they were too small and even after he wore them out of the store. The next day my boyfriend felt pain from his Docs. They were too small on one of his feet in the toe area. He calls the store to which a female manager talks to him stating that she can exchange them for a bigger size and provide insoles to make a half size. Why this was not suggested as an option the previous day is beyond me. We drive one hour to make the exchange, but get to the store and the manager claims she "would never allow or accommodate an exchange for his situation." Complete frustration, dishonesty, and unprofessional conduct led to us spending a huge chunk of time, travel, and money to this terrible store. We went to the Haight location in SF directly after, and they accommodated us with positive feedback, insight into sizing and insole types, and a seamless checkout experience. The store is much larger with a wider selection and they take COVID-19 rules seriously to protect customers and employees and provide for a safe shopping experience. This store is 10/10, amazing! Problems with Valley Fair location: 1. Lack of customer service--the employees are the most unhelpful, pretentious, and rude people I have ever encountered in retail. 2. Lack of knowledge--they do not seem to know anything about the shoes they are selling. Docs are not cheap and customers deserve to know what they are buying and to have their questions answered. 3. Lack of communication--employees were standing in the doorway staring at customers. I myself was struggling with getting the platforms on (I own classic chelsea's too) but no help or tips were offered. I've been to this store twice to buy boots. I was excited to see our mall finally got a stand alone Dr. Martens store. It's not a huge store but they have a decent selection. The first time I went to purchase boots as a gift for someone. The staff were nice and friendly, I got what I needed and it was an overall pleasant experience. The second time I went to exchange boots I received as a gift. There was quite a line going which was fine to keep the store from becoming overcrowded especially during COVID. The manager (as noted on her name tag) let us in when it was our turn and she was pretty rude. She seemed to be helping people with their selections and was extremely annoyed when I asked for a size. I understand that it was a busy day which must have been stressful but I was disappointed. When I asked to try a second pair she was extra annoyed and didn't even come back to tell me they didn't have them in stock. She passed me off to an associate who (nicely) delivered the news. Does anyone else find it bizarre that all the 5 star rating have been left in the last 24 hours? Not sure what's going on there but whatever. I was so excited when this location opened up as I was traveling to the SF locations and it was so much closer for me to go to Valley Fair. I have purchased at this location a handful of times now and I must say, the lack of customer service or even pleasant-ness is astonishing considering the brand. I can recount only one time that I had a semi-enjoyable experience in this location. I agree with the other negative reviews claiming that even the managers seem to be disgruntled. Now, I must acknowledge here that it is the holiday season AND COVID. I recognize that there is a store capacity and it can be frustrating when you need to get customers in and out. I believe their capacity is only 3. That being said I was extremely rushed when I went in and there was absolutely no line or other customers in the store. I definitely was on the receiving end of some major passive aggressiveness. Most of the employees seem to lack any sort of awareness for the needs of any given customer. Honestly, I don't really care if you're nice... just be helpful at the very least! I didn't even receive that. My final thoughts are that if you want to get a pair of docs close by I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend going to Stevens Creek Surplus (its only a minute down the road!) you will be supporting a local business and the employees and owner will treat you like family. This store is seriously a hidden gem! Located right across from Zara in the Valley Fair mall, it's a perfect store to find the best pair of Docs. I appreciate that there is a store capacity limit; I feel safe to shop. There is tremendous help from the staff, who are calm, collected, and provide helpful advice. I showed a picture of the shoe/style I was interested in and got not only that option, but 2 more. I know Docs can be difficult to break in, but with the Chelsea boots I purchased, the size and fit were amazing, (so comfy!) My experience at the shop was great due to the location, amazing customer service, and wide variety of styles available. I went in around 3 o'clock before or after a rush. But, when it did get busy (10 minutes after I arrived) the staff did a great job at crowd control and making sure each customer was helped. The last time I purchased Docs was about 5 years ago at the SF location. Now that there is a store in my hometown, I am excited to make this store my new go-to. read more
