Found this place on Yelp last minute. Dropped off a pair of Johnston & Murphy men's dress shoes here to have them re-soled. The shoes were ~6 years old and had never been repaired. I didn't really know what they needed done but the cobbler made his recommendation and I trusted him. He took the time to educate me on my different options and price ranges. I dropped them off on a Friday morning and with a turn-around date of Monday morning. He asked for at least 50% payment upfront but I paid-in-full $50. The new soles are perfect! They honestly look like new and yet you can't tell they've been altered from their original appearance. The shoes have much better traction now and are just more comfortable to walk in. He gave them a nice polish as well. I'm not sure how $50 compares to anyone else but with this quality of work, it seems super fair to me. I'll be back with other shoes for sure!

I've never actually personally had to repair a pair of shoes. At least not until I've moved to NYC and had to walk everywhere. Usually the shoes we get are too cheap to repair and not worth the cost to repair. My boo had a pair of aerosoles boots and her heels always drag and as a result, the rubber on the tip was totally worn down. She had another pair of shoes with worn heels as well. We searched high and low at Target and other stores for DIY kits, but they didn't have the proper sizes. She was crushed because we read plenty of horror stories on Yelp about how expensive shoe repair would be, but I figure it shouldn't cost THAT much to just nail on a new heel. Come on, there's not much materials needed to put on a 1 cm tip, and it shouldn't take that long to nail something in. If it were to cost 20 bucks to fix some shoes, you might as well get new ones. So wasteful, but true. Low and behold, I woke up early this morning because I had a conference near John Jay College and figured I can be a hero and drop off shoes and have them fixed by the time my conference was done in the evening. Yelp listings showed a few shoe repair places nearby that I could go to and here's what happened: YA Shoe repair http://www.yelp.com/biz/ya-shoe-repair-new-york on 10th ave was closed for good. Sad to say but Yelp failed me. Either that or people in the hood don't yelp and correct listings. If you see CLOSED next to the name, you can thank me. David shoe repair - http://www.yelp.com/biz/david-shoe-repair-new-york Still there, but on a saturday, they were closed. I kept walking and was heading toward Rostelle's http://www.yelp.com/biz/rostelle-shoe-repair-new-york on 8th ave. Luckily I spotted Yanza (which wasn't on Yelp) on 9th ave before I had to waste any more calories. I walked in and it was a tiny shop with 2 spots for shoe shining and a small workshop where 2 guys work laboriously to fix your kicks. I brought out the boots and heels and he said it would cost 6 bucks to fix the heels and I thought it was per heel, but nope, it's 6 for the pair. Not a bad deal at all. He charged 7 bucks for the boots because the heels were much bigger and there was more wear on one of them that wore past the plastic. Don't neglect your heels, or else they'll have to do more work and charge you for it. He asked if I wanted to wait, or pick up later that day. I paid and told him I'd be back before they closed. I came back about 5 hours later and the shoes were ready for pickup. The heels looked perfect and probably better than what they came with. For the price and workmanship, I think they did an excellent job. Not a bad deal at all. $13 bucks to have the heels replaced on a pair of women's shoes and boots. That's 4 heels in all, and I don't think I could have done it for cheaper myself. Or if I did, I would have spent $13 on raw materials and have a bucket full of replacement heel tips cluttering up my apartment. But what's best is me being able to come home as a hero to my boo.

First time Ive gone here, on recommendation from Allen Edmonds. This is a tiny shop, with a small cramped entry. Work space is also tiny strictly a 1 person gig. He is quite friendly and helpful. I brought in a worn pair of my Johnston Murphy Oxfords. He did everything perfectly. Full sole replacement (Goodyear Welted) I didn't request the JR soles but went 1 step down, re-corking, and add rubber soles and heel. He took care of some scratches and scuffs, re-tacked one of the tongues and put a near mirror polish on the caps. Best thing: the shoe didnt shrink! One shoe repair shop near my home, when he repaired them, they got 1/4 to 1/2 size smaller. Had to throw them.out after the 2nd resoling. Now I have to get new shoe trees. Lets see how long these go. Added before and after photos.

I went in for belts. My first, what I call, "country" belt. When one has to purchase the belt and buckle separate. Very nice small, quaint space. Professional staff, all 2 of them, on this day. Quick service.

    New soles for my Chanel's!

Yanza Shoe Repair is located on 9th ave between 57 and 58 and if you blink, you'll miss it. It's a no-frills nothing-like-Leather-Spa type of place, but you definitely get your bang for your buck. For $25 (even, if you pay cash, but including tax if you pay with a credit card), I got the soles and heel of my Chanel ballerina flats replaced in 2 days. They also used Vibram rubber, which I'm sure if that was supposed to cost extra since I specifically asked when I dropped them off and they said it did. I got it anyways! Great quality and craftmanship - my Chanels looked brand new after they finished shining the leather. The scuff marks that were on the patent leather part on the toe completely vanished! It's really a no frills place like I said - you're in, you get quoted, you leave your shoes, and you pick them up in a couple days. That's that. However for the price and quality, this place is top notch and I will be bringing my other shoes to them.

    Cracked Leather Shoes after "Reconditioning"
    Mickey D.

Used to be good now a Ripoff. The guy who's behind the counter. Said. They could recondition a pair of shoes I insisted were too old. They came backed with the leather cracking. Ok if you want a shoe shine or rubber taps but beware of doing any substantial jobs here. Btw, my father was a shoe manufacturer for 40 years and I spent 15 years in the business.

So as I was walking down the street from this place my shoe literally just came apart. Luckily I was right next to this place and stopped right in thinking I'd be able to get a quick fix of glue just to slap it back on and get me back on my way home. I showed the gentleman in the store my shoe and asked if there was anything he could do, he looked at it and said, I can glue it but it will just come right back off eventually. Of course I said that'd be fine as it was an emergency and had no other options. Yet, he blatantly refused to do it! I asked if there was anything he had...any glue...adhesive..anything! And he flat out refused. There was even a tube of adhesive sitting on the counter he could've slapped on there just to bind it together but still...no luck. Didn't even offer any advice or suggestions on what to do, just ignored the fact that I was standing there with 1 shoe on. Save yourself the trouble and go around the corner to Davids repair shop, he at least has some decency to help someone out who's clearly in a situation

Great work and service. We went in to get a belt adjusted and were in and out in less that 5 minutes. Exactly what was needed and on point.

I first brought the boots to the Grand Central location and was turned away because apparently only 55th Street (the least accessible NYC location for me) does calf alterations. My boots were 1-1.5" too wide in the calves as I have very narrow legs, and while I was clear that I didn't want them to be tight, I did want them to look more fitted and neater around my legs. I went to 55th Street and intentionally had the boots fitted over jeans, repeatedly telling the store employee that he was cutting off my circulation and needed to loosen the boots. Rather than listen to me and do what I asked, he told me that they could stretch them if they turned out too small. I very adamantly said no, I will not compromise the integrity of the leather by stretching them nor will I agree to have the boots made too small so that additional work will be required. I finally asked him to provide the final measurement and was told it was 13". The boots were originally 14.5" for reference. The boots were ready in just over a week, which already had me concerned since I hadn't requested a rush job. Upon receiving them, I could immediately see that they were two different sizes. The left boot is 12.5" and the right boot is just barely 12.25". They are nearly impossible to zip, the seams were done VERY poorly and not straight, and most importantly, they do not fit without severe pain. I cannot walk in them. I literally can't even move my right ankle. And that's on my bare legs without jeans. I immediately contacted Leather Spa and received a response from Vincent who said it's very common for boots with this type of repair to require additional treatment and that I should bring them back for stretching. Did I not already have this conversation BEFORE I paid $300+ to ruin $2k+ boots??? Vincent insists they are not ruined even after I sent photos showing that they very much are. Further, they didn't even send them back to me nicely - they threw shreds of cut leather pieces inside one of the boots and just sent them off that way as further evidence of the total rush job. I used to frequent Leather Spa 55th and my patronage fell off years ago after they did something very similar to a pair of $300 boots. I was very clear during my visit this time that that could not happen again with my brand new Louboutin boots that were significantly more expensive. Had the employee just told me on the spot that they were going to cut my boots too small and require stretching thereafter, I would've taken the boots, walked out and gotten them repaired elsewhere. Literally the only reason I returned to Leather Spa is because Christian Louboutin recommends them. Never again.
