The welt stitching was not very clean.

B Nelson has a wonderful reputation around the country. I corresponded with Nick the owner, before I sent in my Aldens. He was very kind and helpful. However, when I got them back the stitching was pretty sloppy looking and frayed. This was not the standard I was expecting. When I wrote in I got no response.

Great repair to my Birkenstock's by B. Nelson Shoes. I spent $80 for a complete reconstruction in which everything but the straps was replaced. I love seeing the character of the leather after three years. Will return with future repairs.

    Really good resoling job

Totally surprised by all of these bad reviews. I needed to resole a pair of Alden semi brogues and took them to B. Nelson based on their reputation as one of the best men's shoe repair places in the city (and in the US). I hesitated because of the Yelp rating and the catalog of bad experiences, but I decided to roll the dice (and didn't really feel like mailing the shoes to Alden or to my old place in Chicago). Went in on a Friday, requested a J Rendenbach resole, and flush metal toe taps. Total damage was $195 ($150 for the resole and $45 for the taps). This is not cheap. Resole at my old place in Chicago (Brooks Shoe Service) was $100 or $125 for J Rendenbach, but hey, beers also cost six bucks in the Windy City, everything is more expensive here. And for what it's worth, B Nelson is one of the only places that I know of that will do flush metal toe taps, which I like a lot more than the kind that are just nailed to the sole. Picked up the shoes a week later and they are absolutely perfect. Could not be happier with the both the resole and the taps. The proof is in the pictures. I will definitely be bringing all of my shoe work here. It is high quality work and fast turnaround, but you have to pay for it.

Alden shell cordovan in ravello. Incredible job bringing these shoes back to life.

Sent in a pair of Alden shell cordovan in ravello that had tearing at the welt and were in desperate need of a resole. They weren't able to help at the Alden factory but Nick took on the job and did an incredible job. They were able to fix the tear, resole, and flush toe taps. I thought one of my rare, favorite shoes were done but they did a great job in bringing life back to them.

I'm not sure what's up with the bad reviews. I didn't have any issues whatsoever. My shoes were returned to me in a timely-manner after having the soles replaced. They look great! I would definitely use this company again.

As I walked past today I remembered I need an additional hole in my belt to hold my pants up! The very nice young man said they can take care of it and he didn't charge me. He said for something like that there's no charge. The hole is in the exact spot I told him and it looks very professional. I'm definitely going to check my other belts and make sure I give him a tip next time. I'm highly recommending for shoes and a shine too. This definitely appears to be a Mom and Pop business. He took the belt to someone in the back who made the hole. There's a young lady who is ready to assist and was busy working on a pair of ladies shoes. My husband bought them in Argentina about that long ago. When I picked them up I almost didn't recognize them. The stitching was done perfect, clean, and shined! They looked nearly brand new. They also repaired the zipper on my Duluth crossbody leather bag (as the company wouldn't do it), cleaned it, and oiled it. The service is timely. The repair work is SUPERB! and fabulous customer service. Great sense of humor. I'm delighted to have found this place. Highly recommend!!

Shoutouts to Leather Spa bringing it back to life! On top of that, the turnaround time was so fast which meant so much to me. I'm beyond grateful to have my sentimental piece restored so beautifully. I first brought the boots to the Grand Central location and was turned away because apparently only 55th Street (the least accessible NYC location for me) does calf alterations. My boots were 1-1.5" too wide in the calves as I have very narrow legs, and while I was clear that I didn't want them to be tight, I did want them to look more fitted and neater around my legs. I went to 55th Street and intentionally had the boots fitted over jeans, repeatedly telling the store employee that he was cutting off my circulation and needed to loosen the boots. Rather than listen to me and do what I asked, he told me that they could stretch them if they turned out too small. I very adamantly said no, I will not compromise the integrity of the leather by stretching them nor will I agree to have the boots made too small so that additional work will be required. I finally asked him to provide the final measurement and was told it was 13". The boots were originally 14.5" for reference. The boots were ready in just over a week, which already had me concerned since I hadn't requested a rush job. Upon receiving them, I could immediately see that they were two different sizes. The left boot is 12.5" and the right boot is just barely 12.25". They are nearly impossible to zip, the seams were done VERY poorly and not straight, and most importantly, they do not fit without severe pain. I cannot walk in them. I literally can't even move my right ankle. And that's on my bare legs without jeans. I immediately contacted Leather Spa and received a response from Vincent who said it's very common for boots with this type of repair to require additional treatment and that I should bring them back for stretching. Did I not already have this conversation BEFORE I paid $300+ to ruin $2k+ boots??? Vincent insists they are not ruined even after I sent photos showing that they very much are. Further, they didn't even send them back to me nicely - they threw shreds of cut leather pieces inside one of the boots and just sent them off that way as further evidence of the total rush job. I used to frequent Leather Spa 55th and my patronage fell off years ago after they did something very similar to a pair of $300 boots. I was very clear during my visit this time that that could not happen again with my brand new Louboutin boots that were significantly more expensive. Had the employee just told me on the spot that they were going to cut my boots too small and require stretching thereafter, I would've taken the boots, walked out and gotten them repaired elsewhere. Literally the only reason I returned to Leather Spa is because Christian Louboutin recommends them. Never again.
