This is my preferred stop for Chinese food in Carlsbad. I like the interior, I like the price, I like the service (most of the time), and the food is very good. We've been going here quite a bit throughout the years, and I enjoy it. Sometimes, you have to be a little proactive about catching the servers' attentions, but often, that's during busy times. We were hungry and looked on Yelp for some Chinese food only to find there were only two locations opened on a Saturday night. Got there about 11:15 AM and soon the whole parking lot was filled to capacity with both locals and Texas-plated trucks from the oil & gas industry. We routinely traveled from Cloudcroft, New Mexico to Sonora, Tx & Kerrville, Texas for over 3 years. We discovered this gem one trip looking for a quick, but not fast food, eatery with veggies that would please everyone. Our home in Kerrville has a terrific Asian Buffet & there are a couple of nice buffets in San Angelo on our route plus some large wonderful Chinese buffets in San Antonio & a Mongolian & Sushi Chinese buffet in El Paso that we frequent but this is my favorite for their #SaltandPepperChicken. It has a nice crispy slightly sweet & salty sear or pan fry without crust. Other places cannot make this simple, balanced chicken dish crunchy & it always disappoints, EXCEPT HERE in #Carlsbad. We have an 8.5 hour drive & plan to hit this restaurant if at all possible. We often travel with our dogs & cannot stop here when the temp is 90 degrees & over, so we enjoy the fall, winter & spring trips once a month. Now with changed assignments away from Sonora, we avoid the horrid construction between Pecos, TX & Carlsbad. Going through Hobbs, we MISS the Dragon Buffet, but I remain hopeful to visit again. I like the long green beans & they are often perfect while many buffets overcook before putting on steam tables. The yeast rolls are delightful & the salads & fruit are fresh. Good Bean Thread or Lo Mein & many shrimp, chicken or beef with veggies or sauces including regular to spicy. We always have some soft serve ice cream to finish off the meal. Better Crab Rangoon than most buffets. The bathrooms are clean but very busy after church on Sundays. I look forward longingly to my next visit. For a remote, small town buffet, it's quite good. No you aren't going to get Mongolian Grill Bowls or Tuna Rolls but if you want something other than signature New Mexican Cuisine with Hatch Green Chili or Chicken Fried Steak or fast food franchises in Carlsbad, enter the Dragon. We tell our guests coming up to Cloudcroft to try & eat at the Dragon. None have been disappointed. I wish we had the Dragon in Alamogordo. read more

So I honestly think they should label the sushi and what's all in it so that way nobody has an allergic reaction to it. A couple months back I ate sushi that had cucumber in it and I didn't know because there was nothing to tell me what was in this certain sushi roll. Price is affordable , service is good, we arrived around 2:45 pm, and lots of people inside and people keep coming. Food was ok. Egg drop soup was colored deep orange....never seen that before. There was also some strange ingredient in there that was also strange. They also colored other food yellow or orange. This buffet was surprisingly pretty good. For only $11 they had a large selection and the food tasted better than average. Normally we dont care for buffet food but there was not one food that we thought was bad. I absolutely love this restaurant!! The owners are super nice, they have a great staff, and the FOOD!!! Yes, the food is always AMAZING. They serve everything on their buffet that your heart desires, they have someone making freah sushi on their sushi bar/ buffet all day, there's lots of deserts to chose from and best of all EVERYTHING is made fresh. There is lots of space to sit, this place is always busy but they always seem to be able to keep up with the high demand. This is one of the best Chinese Buffets we have tried. The variety was very good, having cold sushi and warm Egg Foo Young in addition to the typical dishes and soups served. They had a few more especially delicious dishes that were unique to their location and a nice selection of desserts and fruits. There were few surprises. Some of it was rather tasty (sauteed mushrooms, mongolian beef, "butter chicken" (a deep fried thing). The service was reasonably pleasant and kept the soda full and the dirty plates off the table. Cons: some of the adequate food could have been held at warm temperatures longer ("salt and pepper shrimp" gone cold is kinda nast.). The American goodies were worse than the already low quality I expect at a Chinese buffet (the wings of all things!). There was a distinct lack of cooked vegetable dishes on my visits. After all the bad, trashy buffets we have tried at home in Los Angeles, this is actually a good, trashy buffet. It hits a home run on every single point: delicious fried food, great noodles, great soups, delicious veggie eggrolls, vegetarian selections (minimal but enough none the less, including the tastey veggie egg foo young). Every single item tasted good (even the fries) and the waitresses were polite and very attentive: our sodas were always filled and our finished plates always removed. We were impressed with the variety and quality of the food at this buffet. Almost everything we tried was delicious and perfectly prepared. We stopped here on our way through town after reading the reviews and were glad we did. For $10 per person we were very satisfied. It was busy but we were seated immediately, drinks were quickly delivered, fresh food was brought out as soon as a tray was almost empty, every dish tasted freshly prepared, empty plates were cleared fast, and the Bill was brought when we started dessert.
