This is a four-star review relative to the fact that it is very hard to find good Chinese (Chinese-American) food in SLO County. In San Francisco this would be three stars on my scale. That being said, we had a pleasant experience here. It's clean. It's bright from sunlight (not industrial lighting) inside. There are booths and tables so small or large party-flexible. Got a friendly greeting from the owner (maybe?). You pay when you go in, before you sit down, so there's no waiting for your check. If you'd like beer or wine (only wine by the bottle, but it's $16.10 a bottle - Copper Ridge), you buy that at the front, too. I had a Tsing Tao beer for $4.50. Self-serve tea in plastic mugs, which is just okay. It's a multi- row buffet with a lot of choices. We went for Friday night dinner, at 5:30. It had a few big tables of families and some small groups at the booths. I most enjoyed the salt and peppered pork, sesame balls, veggie spring rolls, and all the wok-cooked dishes with vegetables (like beef with broccoli and the wok-cooked green beans), which were perfectly cooked, fresh, and not too salty. The house special rib (a flat cut, not like a spare rib) was in a very exotic magenta sweet/spicy sauce and was worth a taste. There was a dish of fried salt and pepper in-shell shrimp, which I would have tried if I had felt like shelling shrimp. My partner said the steamed peel-and-eat shrimp were also very good. I was impressed with the fresh salad bar's cucumber slices, and fresh honeydew and cantaloupe, which all looked very nice. I would skip the noodles and the egg flower soup. Oh, and the soft-serve vanilla ice cream with sauces was very fun. There were many kinds of cookies that I wasn't familiar with that were fun to try: a vanilla wafer with cream cookie, and an almond cookie. The empty dishes were cleared quickly. It was a good value at $23(ish) per adult for dinner on the weekend. Different prices for lunch. We will be back! read more

Walked hoping to have a great Chinese buffet, unfortunately our experience didn't come close to great. To begin with this establishment is extremely overpriced for the selection of food. To continue the food isn't great lacked in flavor on most of their choices. Staff is friendly and come to clean off the tables in a timely manner. This AYCE Chinese food spot is located in a medium-sized shopping center with ample parking in and around the shopping center. Yelp had me split on the reviews, but I'm glad I stopped in. You can smell the place from outside, and it smelt yummy! This Dragon has plenty of options available too, especially if you love shrimp. They must have served it at least 5 different ways, including shrimp cocktail style next to a big bowl of tartar sauce. Everything I had was hot and good. Smart & Final dessert section and the always clutch soft serve ice cream machine. Budget Chinese food for sure, but a step up based on the variety of choices. Stacks of clean plates, silverware, and napkins are available. It was a nice touch. Self-serve soda machines. I went for lunch on a Tuesday at 12:30 and it was packed by 1:30, yes an hour, don't judge me! Could have been a little longer, actually. Noticed the charge was $8 higher than what was on the receipt. Contacted the manager and was told it "happens all the time" and that it just means it's "pending". When I said no, it's not pending, it was charged, he then said he'd have to look into it. Manager then called back and said the "new" hostess just made a mistake and added an extra tip on the bill. I asked how many times this has happened since he previously said it happens all the time. Manager said he didn't care if I told my family and friends, losing customers wouldn't bother him. I told him I'm working a review and he said he didn't care about that either. So here it is, they tried to steal money and gaslight me. The food was very fresh and delicious. Their salad bar is super good and the fruit is fresh and cut to perfection. I noticed there was always a staff member either checking the supply or cleaning the trays/counters. All the staff are super helpful and kind. The restroom is pretty clean also. The only downside is there soda machines were terrible. Multiple people tried to enjoy their soda and they were all flat or lacking syrup. I'm up in the area visiting family and I got the craving for Chinese food. Reading the recent reviews was enough to scare some people off, but I decided to experience it for myself. Lunch was $20.61 with tax for 1 adult. The lady at the cash register wasn't rude at all, but she wasn't personable either. All business. She escorted me to my table, posted my receipt in a little holder thingy, and went back to work. I saw a lot of food options that I've never seen before and I was anxious to try them all, so I wound up taking lots of samples. The short version is the food was good! Not great, definitely not bad. Nothing that I tried tasted unpleasant. They have a small salad bar area, fruit, large fried foods bar, 2 hot main dish bars and a large dessert and condiments bar. Some of the more unusual selections that I tried and really liked: 1. Black pepper chicken 2. Pork fried green beans. The pork was really good! 3. 5 flavor chicken. Probably their take on General Tso's. A touch citrus-y and it was yummy. 4. Mongolian Pork. I've had Mongolian Chicken before and this pork dish was very tasty. What looked good and I did not try: 1. House ribs. They were swimming in red sauce and I've never been a huge fan of the stuff. 2. Lemon sauced bone-in wings. I love lemon chicken, but when I eat bone-in-wings I really like them to be well cooked, and I'm not sure if they were. But by that time I was full anyway. The rest of the food was standard Chinese buffet fare (chow mein, fried rice, orange chicken, egg rolls, sweet & sour pork/chicken) and they were all yummy. If I had anything negative to say, it would be their dessert bar. Mostly comprised of cookies still in their original packaging. First Street chocolate chip cookies (Smart & Final) and others that were probably from Food-4-Less. Serving them in their store packaging and not arranging them in trays felt a bit tacky, but not a big deal. I didn't see any beef) and 6 sides plus a salad bar and desert. The desert is just packaged off brand cookies and soft serve ice cream. There may be a discount for cash... I was confused by the "cash discount" on my receipt because there was a charge and no discount. So why it was on the receipt, I don't know. Overall I was satisfied but not impressed. For the price I can get something that I'm really happy with. Four stars for the options and the taste, three stars for the price and the desert options. Ok. We do not have many options for Chinese food in Paso. For a buffet it's good. It's not Vegas buffets good but it's ok. It actually has gotten better since the last time I was here. It's clean and peaceful. Well stocked with many options. Prices have gone up but when I did the math it still is reasonable price. I believe it was $16.99 for lunch. So that's all you can eat food and soda and a nice little dessert bar. Considering most places are now charging $3-4 just for soda the price evens out. I just love this place. Everything is so fresh and nothing ever sits for long because the food is that good. There is something for even the pickiest eaters. The desserts are so devious and who doesn't like ice cream. The bus person is always so attentive and ready to pick up your plate so you can go get more food on a clean plate. This is a standby kind of default place when we don't know where else to go restaurant. But one that I feel I know well enough after all of these years of going to, that I can write a fair review. Each time it is hit and miss. Last night was good. The food was hot and fresh. The servers are always on top of things. Refilling drinks and clearing away empty plates. However sometimes the food is out. Which there were one or two items that needed to be refilled last night. And it was early (before 6). Sometimes the food is cold & dried out. At lunch especially. It feels as if the overall message is: "it is what it is" when you come too late. Last night for two for dinner & one drink (I just had water) we were surprised that the total came to $34.00. They raised their prices) now the price is 15.00 a pop. Which is about the average we pay to go out and eat. But that is with nicer atmosphere & full service. I teetered between 3 & 4 stars & I would give them 3 & a half rather than 4 because of the inconsistency & price hike, but because the food was hot, I gave it to them. We always pay 20% tip everywhere we go if the service is good. Even if it's self serve. But I'm afraid the servers are going to eat it on this one. Which I know is not fair but we definitely did not eat $15 worth of food. Granted some people pig out at places like these. But making us all absorb their extra plates is not fair. Not sure we'll be back too soon. I'd rather go out for sushi if we are going to pay for dinner out. read more

I enjoy eating here, the servings on the buffet line are small and continuously changed out for fresh hot items. The staff are always courteous and quick to remove dirty dishes. The food flavor is about what you would expect from a Chinese buffet. I particularly enjoy the hot n sour soup and the lemon chicken wings here! The food was pretty typical average Chinese food. But with a premium at $20+ per person. What disappointed me is you had to pay before you sat down. So if you have a credit card then you take care of the tip then as well. Well her is a little tip for everyone. Even when they are slow they will not get your drink or refill your drinks for you. There isn't any service going on there. So don't pay tips in advance. They did actively monitor replenishing food well. But I still can't figure out why the lunch buffet was $20+ with no special kicker like crabs or anything as though it was a dinner price. Again, the food wasn't terrible. So I get there and there's a woman who was sitting at a chair. She looked either really sick or exhausted. Thought it was a customer but she was the one to ring me up. Ok, I can deal with that. Maybe she's having a rough day. I pay, grab my plate and start gathering some of this and that. I tried everything. Now, I love me some Chinese food. I've been to many Chinese restaurants and I've always liked something. But let me tell you, I've never and I mean NEVER found one that was a complete disappointment. This is by far the worst buffet I had ever been to. I normally don't write reviews, but this one felt necessary. I'm new in town and was craving some Chinese food, saw this place and decided to try it out with my family. If I could give it 0 or negative stars I would. Their rice was undercooked, some bits of rice was still raw. The noodles tasted old and the vegetables was over cooked. The beef was extremely chewy (like gum chewy), the fried rice had no flavor. Nothing has flavor and if it does it's so subtle you can't even tell. The hot and sour soup tasted like it's been there for a week, and ice cream tasted like ice and some sugar. Don't come here and waste your money and time. It gave me and my family stomach aches for a couple days. The only good thing was the drinks. read more
