Our go-to favorites are the yellow curry chicken, the prik king chicken (better order 2) and their chicken bowls....simple and they come with 3 potstickers! We order takeout often, and it's always ready on time and just as amazing at home as it is in the restaurant. If you're craving incredible Thai food, Elephant Thai never disappoints. A trip to Thai Elephant is a short jaunt from our Paso neighborhood eateries, but a nice getaway to something different (and a much needed Yelp review!). The menu has all the usual Thai items. The gf and I opted for Green Curry (with Chicken) and Spicy Eggplant (with Shrimp) along with 2 sides of steamed rice. It was good, but not great. Green curry was flavorful, but sauce was lumpy. Eggplant was nice, but shrimp was overcooked. A little in need of a make-over (patio is in great need), but it smelled and looked clean. Very nice and sweet service. Both pluses. Thai Elephant has a casual, welcoming atmosphere. Customers are greeted as they enter and service is prompt. Since we enjoyed our previous meal here, a return visit was in order. We began with a bowl of their delicious Tom Yum Shrimp soup, along the Combination Appetizers plate which consisted of Fresh Spring Roll, three Cheese Puffs, two Deep Fried Rolls and two Shrimp Tempura. All were excellent. For our mains, we chose the Crab Fried Rice, Chicken Yellow Curry and a Fish Yellow Curry. The Crab Fried Rice was very good but it could have had a little more crab mixed in. There was a decent amount topping the dish though. Their Yellow Curry dishes comes with potatos, carrots and onions in a yellow coconut curry that has a medium heat. Both the chicken and fish curries were very flavorful. The chicken curry had a decent portion of protein, but the fish curry was lacking. Came here 2 times 1.5 years apart. I live in SF and have had work projects down here and this was a solid Thai place. Extremely large portions and one of the best lunch specials! The pricing is so affordable and the times I've been here they are always busy and slammed with Togo orders. Just cuz it's a lunch order they don't skimp on the protein. O how i wish we had this place at home i would be a regular all the time. Will definitely be back again when im in town! Service is great super attentive pleasant and efficient. I called in an order for pickup and, since they were busy, the wait time was about 30 minutes, which was understandable. I ordered the spicy noodles with shrimp, but unfortunately, the dish was disappointing. The noodles themselves were good, but there was almost no spice to them. In the past, this dish has always had a noticeable kick, so this was a letdown. The shrimp was also not up to par. The texture seemed off--it lacked the usual firm, chewy bite and tasted less fresh than expected. Based on this experience, I'll probably skip this dish in the future and may think twice before ordering from here again. read more

First off, we've been eating at thai elephant for 18 years. They catered my son's bar mitzvah. We've always like the way they treat us when we visit for dinner. We can't go out that often but we always try and go to t e at least 5 or 6 times a year. I recommend the mango fish, crab fried rice and the yellow curry. Although everything is excellent. My wife loves the thai I ed tea. The one item you should always order is the tom ka seafood soup. Best in california. read more

Passing through and was very hungry! We wanted Thai food and found this place on Yelp (of course). It's family owned from what I could tell. Very welcoming and friendly. Staff was efficient from the moment we sat down. Took our orders and it came out within 5-10minutes. I blinked and food came out. LOL I could tell this place is a local favorite because they had a lot of takeouts waiting to be picked up. Great prices and portion-- importantly, the food tastes like authentic Thai. The people working spoke in Thai, so that's why I concluded how authentic the food tasted. Restaurant was clean and tidy. They had lots of different types of Thai decor throughout the restaurant and a big fish tank in front if I recalled correctly. This is an awesome stop for anyone who wants a hearty meal. All of their food is usually amazing. And the people who work there are lovely. Tonight, 2 out of 3 of the items I got there were blah. The fried crispy spring rolls were just flavorless and stale. I think all the restaurants here buy their spring rolls from the same food purveyor and nobody makes them homemade. You can tell they're all just kind of stale. I don't think I've had a good crispy spring roll probably since I moved here 7 years ago (Baht is the rare exception that actually has really crispy spring rolls that are flavorful imo). Also, THREE frigging spring rolls for $10?!? Highway robbery!!! Secondly, the rice ....... it seems like it should be hard to mess up. It's straight up just jasmine rice, which if you are a Thai restaurant seems like it should be be good there, but it was old and dry and stale. And it was like 6 o'clock on a friday night, so you would think they would have had a fresh batch of rice for the upcoming busy shift, but no, it was definitely from probably the beginning of their work shift. THREE STRIKES AND THEY ARE O-U-T!!! Service, Price, Food = AWFUL STRIKE 1: A bowl of tofu and curry soup with a side of four 3-inch egg rolls was $30!!! GTFOH!!! STRIKE 2: Food was poorly and cheaply prepared! Requested extra veggies instead of noodles and I was charged extra, plus there was hardly any tofu, and no evidence of extra veggies in the soup!!! Taste was good but portion was 100% insulting for the price. STRIKE 3: The cherry on top of this Thai-Tragedy was that this was a pickup order handed off in a tied bag: when I open the bag, there was no utensils or napkins! I had to go to another fast food place and ask for a napkins and a fork and a spoon! Save you $$ and go ANYWHERE else when in Atascadero! read more

We've eaten here twice now and both times were excellent. Nicely decorated interior space that is quite small - and will fit up at peak times. The flavors of the items we ordered have all been very authentic and delicious. Service is pretty quick, and prices are reasonable. I definitely recommend this place, and will return next time we are in Morro. read more

everything here was DELISH!! param chicken - very peanut flavor heavy, yet mixed well with the other flavors. huge hit with the table, the ones who took us there to eat said it's their favorite, and we see why! pad see ew- always my favorite dish, basically a thai version of chow fun. good balance with the amount of well cooked broccoli, meat & noodles (we usually get beef, the meat wasn't tough) bbq beef short ribs: yummmmyy tender and not too much fat. not pictured: chicken larb, crab wontons larb was sooo tasty, right amount of sour & fish sauce and onion/ cilantro/ mint. wontons had that good crunch and perfect amount of crab/ cheese filling. service was quick and attentive, even though it was packed-- which is a great sign, goes to show that this place is quite popular. well deserved crowd, really. dreaming of the next time we visit atascadero to hit this spot again! read more

I've been visiting this location as well as the Morro Bay location for a few years now, and Thai Elephant has slowly become my go to spot for Thai Food in the Central Coast. The staff is always super kind and very engaging, as well as super attentive when it came to any needs and checking in on you. This specific location is pretty spacious and is right off El Camino- I love sitting by the window and people watch/ car watch. OKAY THE FOOD: Their pad see ew and pad Thai are pretty good, I usually pair them with either chicken or pork, but you can't go wrong with beef or tofu. If you're feeling soupy, their curry dishes are pretty good as well as their Tom Kha. You can't go wrong with their fried calamari, and their Mango Salad with Shrimp is pretty tasty. I like to order their satay chicken since it's a nice addition to the meal, however I also like their honey ribs & sesame chicken. 20/10 would recommend this spot! :-) read more

Pros: Rolls were good and red curry was good. Cons: Scallops tasted fake to me as they did not have any striations like normal real scallops would. I ordered the fried noodle dish just for the scallops but it seems like they tried to save money by giving me imitation ones, for vegetarians. I've eaten real scallops all my life so I definitely know what they taste like. Why they'd want to ruin their reputation and lose a customer just to save 10-20$ is beyond me. Am not coming back. We ate here on a weekend during the middle of the day while the temperature was 112F outside! Initially we ordered to go since we were on our way to Santa Barbara from The Bay and we had our dog with us. After we received our 2 orders of the Short rib rice bowl and fresh shrimp roll, instead of continuing with our road trip. We decided to just eat inside to stay kool While one of us waited in the shade , since pets are not allowed inside or in the alfresco area. So we sat down at an empty table and began to eat. One of the staff members came over to us, with an attitude. To notify them if we change our minds about dining in. What difference did it make? The restaurant was not full. There were only 4 tables with customers on one side of the restaurant. Also, she didn't even ask if we wanted anything to drink. Was it because I didn't tip for our take out order or that we changed our mind about where we're eating our take out? Whatever her problem was, we're glad that we don't live here. If your menu clearly states that all your soups are gluten free and I make it quite clear twice that I have to have GF, don't bring me seafood soup with battered fish in it. It's a shame because the food and wine are excellent. FYI, when I sent the soup back, I asked them to switch the order to chicken. My husband thinks the look on the server's face was disappointment that he wouldn't be able to take the soup back to the kitchen and just pull out the contaminated fish. read more

Went to this area to go look at sensorio and was not expecting good asian food tbh, since this is near slo. But this place was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, I only remember 2 of the dishes (khao soi and tom yum seafood, think we also ordered pad thai with beef). The Khao soi was amazing, but I will say the curry broth was a bit overpowering for me although my family really enjoyed it. The tom yum seafood (o wow) definitely worth a try and my favorite dish BUT I will say the broth tastes strongly of lime (which I personally really loved but just be aware of this). The pad thai? was really good and tasted amazing, good solid staple for pretty much anyone to enjoy. The food was a bit pricey for me when looking at other Thai places, but definitely worth it for me considering I was just passing through so won't eat this for a while. Came during New Years time and restaurant still had decorations up from Christmas, pretty nice family ambiance (gave me vibes similar to a hole in the wall restaurant) Overall, I give this a place a 6 out of 5 stars, and if you just passing through, definitely worth a try. read more
