6:00 Friday night, Easter weekend and I can't remember ever seeing it this busy here???!!! Food was good as always but tonight's service was the worst we have ever experienced! We were a party of four, seated quickly and our server came up after 5 minutes or so, asked about drinks. We ordered he brought them and then disappeared...didn't ask if we wanted appetizers. We stopped him on his next lap passing by and asked for edamame, he brought one order and left. Had to stop him again and asked for another order as he didn't wait long enough for us to say two orders the first time...he dropped it off and gone againWe were ready to order so we had to flag him down again. Finally ordered and he brings one order...then 5 minutes later another order...and then 5 minutes for the next order and then closer to 10 minutes for the last order. No apparent thought given to bringing everything at the same time so we can all eat together? We hadn't been here in years, particularly after their big norovirus issue. Service: Great. Not super surprising since we were the only customers at ~11:45 AM on a Saturday, but our server was attentive, helpful, and great. Ambiance: It's alright. Food: It was okay. I was expecting langostino on the "lobster" roll, and it indeed was- but these were the weirdest, most rubbery and gristly tiny little guys that I've ever seen. Way downhill from years ago. My husband's katsudon was under-seasoned but meh, okay. The hot night roll was fine, if something was a little unusual in the spicy ahi. So, why a two-star review? A sushi chef (I assume- one of two guys standing directly at the sushi bar) was visibly and audibly hacking/coughing, sneezing, and blowing his nose while standing directly at the sushi bar. Having heard a lot of coughing and being sort of alert to it, I watched after he blew his nose into a paper, and he did not leave to wash his hands- instead working on prep, handling plates and utensils for customers. No problem with the service. It's more of a roll type sushi place and pretty basic stuff with a bunch of other non sushi options. They were out of gyoza and takoyaki which was disappointing. Sushi: generous portions, yellowtail and salmon were very good, octopus was awful. Way overcooked and tough. Barely chewable. The rice was just ok. The spider hand roll was great. A lot of crab and fresh. Didn't really like the sauce but it was not bad. So an ok experience as I was craving sushi. Service and ambience nice. This is the Sushi place we go almost once every 2 weeks before we had our baby. Food is good but the older lady just does not like kids. She would not give regular table for older kid and forces bigger toddler to use high chair even thought they don't fit in it. We had to leave the place after waiting 30 minutes in line to get in because she refused to sit my baby on regular chair. This place has gone down pretty bad, all they care about is number of people in and out, gather plates as your people are still enjoying the meal. Make you feel rushed to finish and leave. Good note: there's Shushi place name Umi sushi couple blocks from Yanagi and they are top notch. Open space, great service, people who work there look happy and do not rush you out. read more

I understand that we're in Paso Robles, and choices are very limited, but this place is okay at best but overpriced. The service and ambiance were really good. I have no complaints about that. The restaurant is very clean, and the server was attentive and ensured we had our drinks and refilled them on time. My issue was with the prices and quality of food. Chicken Teriyaki Bowl: The chicken was tough and probably not fresh, as it did not taste fresh. Also, $15 for this is overpriced. There was nothing special about this bowl. Rainbow Roll: The price could have been better for the quality of the fish used. I tried to look for something decently priced, and this was one of the closest ones. The vibes at this location was pretty chill as it was in the heart of downtown Paso Robles. The location had plenty of parking and the inside was quite spacious. The staff was very kind and attentive. My boyfriend and I came an hour before closing, but were seated immediately and treated very kindly. Since we did come an hour before closing, we ordered quickly and served swiftly. We've gone to the Yanagi location in Pismo Beach, and knew of their sushi boat and wanted to give the Paso location a try ... THEY DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The sashimi and nigiri tasted fresh and the rolls (which were Chef picked) were pretty dang good too. The boat came with miso soup and salad, though I didn't care much for the salad, the miso was a perfect little appetizer. We had also ordered a Dragon Roll and a Golden California Roll- both being yummy and though basic rolls, still tasted great. To be honest, I somewhat prefer the Paso location over the Pismo location - the staff was kinder and more attentive even though we came in an hour before closing. First two hours are free parking which I loved! We were greeted and sat down right away. Hubby ordered a Sapporo beer and I ordered a Shirley temple. The Shirley temple was way too sweet for my liking and needed some water to dilute the taste. For our meal, we ordered 3 sushi rolls which we shared. We ordered the Crunchy roll, Red dragon roll and the Tarantula roll. All the rolls were delicious and our favorite was the red dragon roll since they used a red chili oil that paired perfectly . The cost overall was $75 with tip. Inside it felt very family friendly and not crazy loud or anything. The service was good and our waitress was attentive.
