Not piping hot as it should be but I think it was ok . Price was about the same as most buffets but given the choices I would say it is overpriced. The interior of the restaurant is clean, the buffets well lighted, and even after a lunch time rush, there was still fresh food out. I liked the various sauces available for the grill and the variety of vegetables. The sesame chicken, nigiri, sushi rolls, and egg rolls were my favorites from the other buffets, but all the food tasted good. I would return. First the positives. Restaurant was clean, cheery. Buffet has lots of variety. But, the food had no flavor. I requested spicy on my Mongolian pork and its was without any taste and no spice. Strangely, no sweet taste which I have never experienced with Mongolian beef. Dishes from the buffet were also without taste. My Son and I went to dine here this past Sunday and received the worst service and experience. When we first walked in, no greetings, not an hello or anything. The dishwasher told us we can take a seat. None of the food was filled, 90% of the food trays was empty and took very long for them to refill it. The restaurant was also not clean, it was dirty. For all my indecisive foodies, 짬짜면 "jjam-jjah-myun" (jjajangmyun + jjampong) is finally available in Alaska If you have a hard time choosing between savory saucy noodles or a spicy seafood noodle soup... why not both? (As promised) In-depth review below: ---- Terminology: 짬뽕 / Jjampong / Champong = Spicy Seafood Noodle Soup 짜장면 / Jjajangmyun / Jjajangmyeon = Noodles with Black Bean Sauce Both are Korean-Chinese noodle dishes. ----- Pros: Some places don't offer these meals except on weekends because of the low demand. This combo meal was available on a random Wednesday at Filling portion sizes. Because you're ordering a combination of two different noodle dishes, you might expect the meal to be 1/2 jjampong + 1/2 jjajangmyun = 1 total noodle combo. I got pretty fully and had to take some leftovers. It's not quite 2x a meal but at least 1.5. Felt like good amount of noodles. Comes with small side of pickled radish and onions to dip with black bean paste Yes! They used the right asian noodles. Not udon noodles or spaghetti. Also both noodles were cooked to the right consistency-- not soggy or uncooked. Jjajangmyeon was savory and slightly on the sweater side. Veggies were cooked well and the cucumber was fresh. Perfect sauce that you can take home and mix in with some rice for leftovers! Was not as heavy with the MSG and oil compared to some other restaurants. Jjampong was a good level of spice and richness. Loved that the seafood was not overly cooked and rubbery. Came with 2 muscles, 1 fat scallop, and 2ish(?) shrimp. Felt like a reasonable ratio of noodles to veggies to seafood to broth. Didn't feel like they were skimpy on the portion sizes for the noodles. There is Mongolian beef station and a reasonably priced buffet available throughout the day (see attached photos for menu). Received complimentary plate of fresh fruit from the buffet. Cons: $26.95 for the meal. But with one bowl of either being around $23 at competing restaurants, getting both for roughly $27 is reasonable given that you're getting about 1.5 portions. Separately, both dishes passed individually. However, the true test often comes once you keep eating both dishes, one after the other. The flavor profile of one dish can offset or emphasize the flavor profile of another. While at some other restaurants (like Silk) the jjampong can eventually start to taste a bit acidic compared to the jjajjangmyun, I didn't really notice that here (positive.) However, the jjampong did start to get outshined a bit by the jjajangmyun and started to feel like the jjampong needed just a splash more of fish sauce for added umami and salt. Can't remember if there was meat in the jjajangmyun. At worst, there was none. At the least, it was very tiny. I think it's likely the former, in which I wish it could have been more present in the meal for texture and flavor. Overall Experience: Welcoming environment with cozy vibes: I was welcomed in by a kind and friendly women. She gave me water right away. I appreciated her service as well as that of the other male staff (maybe her husband or relative) who gave me a complementary plate of fruit after I was done eating. I loved that I had the option to order both types of noodle dishes without paying double the price. Other restaurants frequently add way more msg and oil to their meal which (although delicious) often leaves me feeling extremely lethargic afterwards. I liked that the noodles here weren't too heavy. This place has mixed reviews from people, but I'm glad I gave it a shot. I liked that this meal was not too heavy, had good flavors, and was reasonably priced (albeit still pricey) for the type of meal and its portion size. Did takeout from here and have to say it's... alright. Expedient and friendly. The beef was very oddly shaped and extremely chewy... but the veggies that came with it were plentiful, not soggy, and fresh! We just pushed the 'beef' to the side and went to work on the veggies. The sesame chicken was delicious, in the same way that any chicken breaded and fried served with a sweet sesame sauce will be. Wasn't dry, had nice crunchiness to it and was not quite over the limit of 'too sweet' although it was testing that boundary. The fresh rolls came with sweet Thai chili sauce, gotta have peanut sauce! My favorite compliment for sure to a nice fresh roll. The fresh rolls were fine, if they came with my preferred sauce I'd get them again! Rice was done well, no complaints there. Gave a solid portion size that fit with the size of the entrees. This is for the newly owned/ named Dragon Palace. When we got there we told the gal working we hadn't been there before, and she walked us to the hot buffet and also showed us the buffet for raw veggies/noodles/meat where you fill a bowl for them to cook up for you on the spot over a large circular grill. It was all SO delicious and the service was excellent, very responsive and friendly. The Mongolian BBQ was fun to watch and tasted fresh, and everything else we tried was fantastic as well. We loved the various seafood and chicken offerings, as well as the Mongolian beef. We were too full for the salad bar, but we all really enjoyed the fruit in December, that was quite good--fresh pineapple, honeydew, watermelon, cara oranges and grapefruit. My kids reported the cake tasted good, too, and as we were wrapping up our meal requested that we go there again soon. It was also clean and my kids noted the inside was decorated in a fun way. Disclaimer here, this building is RUN DOWN! The decor is decidedly 1980s movie set Chinese. The wall paper is peeling, it smells damp. It can't be ignored and definitely cost a star. I came in tonight expecting to treat myself and my son to a trashy Chinese buffet. They're not running the buffet due to COVID and I think that worked in my favor. Dragon seems to be a mom and pop place these days. As in mom waits tables and pop cooks. Mom is attentive, gave menu recommendations when solicited, kept water glasses full and brought the check without being asked but at the correct "meal is winding down" moment. Full marks for service from mom. Pop was watching a basketball game in the kitchen and turned out our appetizers and meals in short order. No complaints about pop. Speaking of the food, I went expecting to sample multiple dishes on a buffet, but ended up ordering two bento boxes with two entrees each. Broccoli beef, sesame chicken, Szechuan pork and spicy beef were plated simply with fried rice. The portions were large for the price. Flavors were good, if a bit heavy on the salt (or MSG?). The sesame chicken wasn't overly breaded or too sweet. The vegetables were fresh and plentiful in the beef and pork. Overall, a solid slightly better than average American Chinese meal, served in a building that's in need of serious attention. This place is absolutely awful. I've been here twice for work functions (obviously not by my choice). The decor is incredibly tacky and looks like a cheap Chinese restaurant movie set. The service is average at best. I could get past those two things if the food was good, but it was hardly edible. Unfortunately they do not serve alcohol of any kind, which may have made the food more palatable. I didn't like it the first time so when I went a second time I thought maybe it would be better. But no, it was actually worse. Unlike the first time, the long table we sat at in the back of the restaurant had a green plastic covering. The kind you would expect at a kid's birthday party. I don't know if that was there because they didn't want to clean the tables or what. Anyway, onto the food. There's several buffets lined up, each with a different variety of food. There's Korean vegetables, sushi rolls, fish, and typical Chinese restaurant foods. I don't understand why Asian restaurants try to serve so many types of food at once, but I digress. I tried a little bit of everything, none of which had any flavor. The sushi tastes like the cheap kind you can buy at a grocery store. Even the ginger tasted off. The Korean vegetables weren't very fresh. The kimchi tasted like the kind you can buy in a jar. The japchae, a Korean noodle dish, lacked variety in texture and had no flavor. There were two rice cookers with steamed white rice, but only one of them was filled whenever I went there. The last time there was some burned pieces of rice, so who knows how long it had been sitting there. Somewhat ironically, I thought the Chinese food was the worst of all. The Kung Pao chicken had less spice than if I covered chicken in Sriracha, which would have been better because the quality of he meat wasn't good either. Worst of all was the Mongolian beef, some terrible concoction of a gravy-like sauce, soggy broccoli, and the most disgusting beef I've ever tasted. I physically cringed eating this, much to my coworker's amusement. I wouldn't know what kind of meat it was supposed to be if I hadn't seen it. I'd rather have whatever meat they're serving at Taco Bell or McDonald's or the nearest gas station than have to see that on my plate again. I cannot willfully recommend Dragon Seafood in any capacity. You're better off going to the grocery store and buying one of the entrees there. My coworker said her husband got diarrhea when he went there, so don't let that (or worse) happen to you. read more

With all the restaurants to choose from in Anchorage, I don't know why this place is still in business. They serve a lot of questionable dish that I don't recognize. I see The Chinese decor however the normal Chinese favs are nowhere to be seen. The sushi and cabbage/egg drop soup was ok. The rest of the buffet looks like it will make you sick. I enjoy fish as much as the next guy, but two large baked fish with the head on and the beady eyes staring at me....I think I'll pass! This place is practically an Anchorage staple. I've had a few meals here from a small party to 2 tops. It's okay, nothing special. I haven't had poor service here, so it sucks for those who've had. Nothing makes food taste worse than when you receive bad service. I don't think any of the food was bad, just average and filling. Isn't that what buffet food is all about? Gut full of food without anything stellar but just good enough, even from back in the day of the Royal Fork, so why would this place be any different? Don't do it. Go anywhere else. So I walk in this place by mistake I'm actually looking for a local sushi joint but I wasn't looking at the addresses correctly. Walked in and asked do you also serve sushi the woman points at a few minor Sushi items on the buffet. I then made the mistake of sitting down. It's hard to describe all the items that are wrong with this place but it just didn't seem clean and unfortunately my table had a view of the kitchen. And older gentleman basically sat in the kitchen and occasionally stood up to cook something. I slept pretty unsanitary practices. I ultimately left though I did pay my bill and realized oh crap the sushi place I'm looking for is right next door. This has to be the worst food in Anchorage. Came here for lunch today, and was immediately put off by all the fingerprints and dirty smudges all over the fish tank less than 6 inches from where I sat in a booth. The sweet and sour chicken was barely warm and soggy in a flavorless sauce. The teriyaki chicken was a little better, but the fresh rolls, ohmygod! The fresh rolls are literally romaine lettuce wrapped with a little bit of shredded carrots in rice paper. I'm not joking. I'm generally not a fan of buffets because "pigging out" isn't my idea of a good time. But this was just horrible. Even the sushi rolls were Carrs quality, and their ginger tasted like it had come out of a can sitting on the shelf for 4 years. This is, the WORST. my family's favorite pig-out joint. This is a no -nonsense Chinese/Korean buffet feast. I've lost count on how many items there are but they do have an extensive buffet line. I especially enjoy their Korean section where you can indulge in authentic Korean little dishes. Their Chinese section is also quite good, I really enjoy the flavorful baked jaw of the cod in a mayonnaise sauce. Some of their items are quite exotic such as pig's ears, tripe, fish with its head and tail still attached, etc. The point is it is very authentic and true. What isn't so original is the sushi selection. However, there are many other items to satisfy your hunger. If you are a soup person, be sure to sample a bowl of the chili infused, Korean-inspired seafood soup. I personally love the bulgogi seaweed soup that is rich and aromatic. Be sure to give Dragon a try. They are next door to the Tokyo Garden. read more

I recently dined at this restaurant with some family. I was quite puzzled because the parking lot was full but only 4 tables had folks eating there. A person dining at the restaurant then told me that, next door is also a buffet restaurant. After tasting the food at the Dragon, I knew why there were hardly any patrons there. The hot food on the buffet line looked old and many entrees were less then half full. The vegetable dishes were over cooked and did not look fresh and appetizing. The sushi rolls that I ate were hard because of them sitting out too long. Our dining experience there was horrible there. The last straw came when my dinner companion noticed a dead spider in the fried rice that was on his plate. We immeditately notified the waitress, who then took the plate to the owner. The owner was in the kitchen watching television. We never got an apology for this spider being in the fried rice. We left without getting anyone talking to us as to why or how this happend. I was sure the owner would come out to talk to us, but he yelled at someone in the kitchen ( I assume it was the cook) and never made aneffort to come talk to us. What kind of owner would not even attempt to explain something to a customer? Obviously he did not care! I will never return to this restaurant and I will tell all my friends, family and co- workers of this unacceptable incident... Diners, beware of this restaurant! read more

After an abysmal experience at the right next door buffet, this place saved the day. The service was very friendly. The sushi was very average, but it makes up for it with the other selections' quality. One entire table was Korean dishes, another was Chinese, another seafood and sushi, and a dessert table. The tempura was excellent. The sautéed shrimp in garlic, beef/chicken dishes were the quality you'd find in good chinese restos. Fried rice was tasty. The last time I was at this location was maybe 2 years ago when it was Tokyo Garden (which seems to have switched places with Dragon.) I never thought to go try this despite having passed by it on many occasions. I didn't know what to expect. But it was a slightly better than terrible choice. Maybe the worst dining choice of 2012. Dragon is a little further back than golden corral, despite Golden Corral being as crappy as it is. Let me just say, it's been about 5 hours since I left the place, and my stomach feels much regret. "Couldn't you have made a better choice? Like a crappy chili cheese dog from the gas station? Why? WHY?" Feeling semi-full, but not in a "that was a good choice," kind of way. Some queasiness followed. The service is pretty good, staff is nice. Unfortunately the same can't be said to describe the food. When making choices at Dragon it's a fun guessing game, as things may look more palatable than they actually are. The "This-is-good-given-the-options-I-have-and-everything-after-will-be-graded on a curve": -Fruit (on this occasion) -Salad Bar -Chicken Skewers (but these are always good) -Jap Chae -- of course there's Korean food here, that's a given :) -Fried dumplings -Pigs Feet -Tofu dishes The "Well I guess this is so-so": -Steamed version of the same dumplings -Kim Chi -fish -fish soup Avoid: -The fried rice that tastes like mexican rice you get with enchilada combos -Sushi: I have to disagree with some users. Carrs Sushi quite high on the scale in comparison to Dragon's sushi. It's constantly under those track lights that have been installed directly above the buffet tables, so they're pretty dry. Given that Tokyo Garden's sushi had been "kind of so-so" under the same lights, I gave them a go. I regret this decision. Of the options available, don't go for the one with tuna on top. It was like a tasteless swedish fish that somehow perched itself onto some rice. Though I was eating plastic food for a moment. The Crunchy Roll-esque variety was better than the tuna, but the shrimp inside was incredibly rubbery and arid tasting. The one that looked like it had baked scallops w/sauce on top (turned out to be cooked shredded salmon) was probably the best ot the 3 (still not very good) although I hadn't tried the Korean Kim-Bap and the California Roll(?) It might be good? Did not try: -Shellfish -Pork Ribs Environment-wise, it was interesting but a bit melancholic. The quality of the food overall (even though it's a buffet, yadda yadda medium expecations for the price point etc.) was lacking. It would be a much better idea to have one entree that tastes decent, rather than gorging yourself (or trying to) with the less than spectacular variety of options. Dragon is for the most part a buffet but also has a menu and to-order entrees. I've ordered the hot and sour soup there, which is not to be found in the buffet, and found it acceptable. It is normally served with about 5 shrimps. The buffet can have good fish, I've been there for red snapper and also salmon. The kung pao chicken is okay. they have a Korean bar with lots of raw/ parboiled fresh squid/ seaweed and kim-che. Their fruit bar didn't impress me for variety, but seemed fresh. Their tea was oolong and hot. Service was brisk and friendly. This review might seem rather lukewarm. I found the buffet acceptable for lunch. First of all, I don't like Chinese food and I don't visit all-you-can-eat buffets. I first learned about Dragon Seafood when my husband and I were passing through Anchorage and he was hungry for Chinese. Not being hungry myself, I drank a pot of hot green tea while I watched him consume one interesting dish after another from the steaming trays. I vowed that the next time I visited Anchorage, I would be sure to save my appetite for a trip to Dragon Seafood. Baked Pacific salmon, green lipped New Zealand mussels, bock choy in a spicy pepper sauce, green spinach egg drop soup, succulent eel sushi, sweet black beans, spicy sesame noodles sauteed with cremini mushrooms, steamed and seasoned prawns, and an endless selection of Asian salads as well as a fresh fruit bar; all of this without the greasy, MSG laden sauces and unnatural colors that most "Chinese" restaurants serve. You can indulge at the Dragon Sea food buffet without experiencing that queasy, zoned out feeling and after-taste associated with eating at most Chinese restaurants. I would bet that the crybabies who says otherwise were reared on junk food and wouldn't know a fresh vegetable if it wacked them in the face. And if you want alcohol, then go to a bar because quite frankly, alcohol would ruin the culture of this food; and I'm a beer and wine drinker.
