Quick service, clean tables and friendly staff. Can't say much about the sushi but we ordered the chicken teriyaki and sesame chicken plates (with fried rice) and both were very tasty. The egg rolls tasted homemade and were a good size. The fried rice had a really good smokey flavor and they used short grain rice which made it better. Love the food here! Every dish I have ordered is absolutely delicious. I had never tried sushi before and now love it, glad I tried it here for the first time. The service is good and the people are hospitable. I used to eat here twice a week before flying out and as soon as I came back. Great ambiance with a lot of TVs along the wall. Sushi On The Fly! What a cleaver lil play on words for sushi at the airport!! The prices where reasonable, too, considering it was an airport restaurant and NOT a fast food chain (ughhh). The menu was very well written, informative and clearly laid out. The worker (Scott) was very knowledgeable about the food he was cooking and the dishes he was serving. I even witnessed a customer get a lil out of hand over a mistake that they had obviously made when they ordered and Scott gracefully handled the situation with professionalism and emotional maturity that was surprising considering how the customer was making a big deal about blaming him for her own mistake. Overall the sushi was amazing, the service was second to none and Sushi On The Fly left me feeling great about dining there. I still think it is the best airport food in Anchorage. Tried a different spot recently, and while they tried, it just wasn't up to par. I appreciate the fact that Sushi on the Fly has gluten free soy sauce. I usually order a salmon roll with avocado and cucumber. Lately I've also begun to order some edamame and sake on longer layovers. My travel companions on my last trip did say their noodles were on the saltier side. Ambiance- The ambiance was nice, calm and relaxing which is great since it's an airport and I can feel anxious about traveling. Service-the hostess got our attention immediately and seated us. She told us in advance that it's cash only. She gave us some time to look over our menus. We finally ordered and the food came in good timing. We didn't feel rushed out at all. Food-My husband ordered the spicy udon, 9 piece sashimi (hamachi and salmon). The sashimi was a grand slam-all amazing (I had some too)! What a treat as I spent 16 hours at the Anchorage airport thanks to the primadonna Alaska Airlines pilots who are picketing around the west coast. Wow, I would not normally do a review of a sushi restaurant at an airport but this is some good stuff. I thought it would be a reheated meal to go. Couldn't be farther from the truth. We had Icy Bay IPA on draft, they have a nice selection, even sake. California roll was tasty and fresh, but the king pow chicken stole the show. Great spice and delicious. Service was great. Mom and I had a really late... or really early flight out ... depending on how you look at it .... one night in early August. The C terminal was slammed. So, much for my thinking that leaving late Saturday night / early Sunday morning would not be busy. The two eating places at the entrance of C were super busy with long lines. Mind you it's about 10:30pm. I remembered upon our arrival a couple weeks prior that there was 'something' farther down the terminal so I told Mom we'd just keep walking and look to see what was available. Lo and Behold... we came upon this place. They were NOT super busy and even had a couple tables open. The nice gentleman sat us quickly and gave us waters. What I didn't know was that they would be closing soon and we were one of the last to get a seat. He took our orders ... we got a chicken teriyaki and a noodle dish. Both were served hot and quickly. I was so very relieved that we were able to get something decent (and shockingly good) to eat before our 1:45am flight. I think they stop allowing new guests at 11pm. I'm not 100% sure on that tho. I just know we were there about 10:30pm and were able to get in. Thank Goodness! While they didn't kick us out, they were cleaning and closing up as we were finishing up. Mind you, they didn't rush us and even gave us hot tea refills in the midst of their closing procedures. It was much appreciated. So... if you see long lines at the 2 places close to the entrance of the terminal (from the security check point), keep walking. ( There's also a bar across from this place that had several seats open too in case you just want to hang out and grab a drink before you flight. Note, they closed up around 11pm too. ) read more

For those of you traveling through the Anchorage airport- if you decide to get sushi at sushi on the fly- watch your charges with them- check your receipt- and take a receipt when they ask. Even though I wrote on my credit card charges no tip- they still added a tip on there for themselves. I was there for 3 minutes getting a premade sushi and a soda - and remember specifically writing 25.00 on it cause I was upset with their service because she tried to add someone else's order on my charges. First of all, their menu selection is amazing: not only do they have sushi, but also a large selection of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese hot dishes. I *highly recommend* getting a bento, which is a great value (even at about $20 - it's an airport, right?). You'll get a California roll, gyoza, fried shrimp, veggies, and then your main dish of choice. I got spicy pork, and it tasted great. It was also presented nicely, in an actual to-go bento box (great for the plane). You can call ahead and place your order and then pick it up and carry it on your flight. During my long voyage from San Diego to the northern tip of Alaska, Sushi on the Fly provided me with an unexpected delightful meal! I ordered the California roll and it was one of the best roles I've had in a long time; it was plump, packed with flavor, and the price was fair for the amount of food. I don't fly until Alaska very often, but I would definitely stop in on any future trips to the area. I would also suggest trying one of they're delicious looking Bento boxes. read more

Food is not good. I ordered kung pao chicken and when I received my order, there were no peanuts in the dish, and the food tasted like just poured hot sauce over it. The worst Chinese food I have ever tasted. I also ordered chicken teriyaki and the chicken is dry and hard. I don't like it at all. I won't recommend it to anybody. Waitress did not provide the manual after she seated us and after a long wait she came to the table and asked whether we were ready to order. If I could give 5 stars to the bar across the way, I would. The young man working the bar was exceptionally friendly, conversational, attentive and pleasant. The options at this bar exceed expectations for the little size of it! However, we ordered some food from the restaurant and that's when things got weird. The "bbq pork" ($12) was about 6 small slices of warmed pork. I've had this dish many times before in other places throughout my life and this one was by far the weakest offering I've seen. There was gristly parts of the small slices and 2 of the slices were completely brown/grey and we didn't even want to eat them. It came with a sliver of hot mustard and nothing more. When our bartender asked if we liked it, we had to let him know we didn't and actually sent it away! We also got an "OMG Roll" ($19) that was edible, and okay, but just felt like a fast-food-sushi-roll. Nothing authentic or impressive about it. I'll post a pic. All in all I love that this little bar was open (around 1pm on a Saturday) during our layover in Anchorage, and loved the service and beer/drink selection, I wouldn't be in a hurry to get any food from here again. More than just Sushi in the airport, this was good Sushi in the Anchorage airport. Very nice staff took my order and checked me out quickly. Packed up my sushi to go with soy and chopsticks and my delicious Crunch roll. Fish tasted fresh, the rice delicious. There are a few items packaged and ready to go but they have sushi chefs standing by to create something for you as well. Bar and a few tables for sit down service while you wait. I honestly don't know if they have other storefronts, but for my personal amusement, I'm gonna say this is the only one. The food, as all the reviews allude to, was amazing and the best sushi I had in Alaska. There was lots of variety in rolls you could choose from, quick service, and friendly staff. I ordered the Flying Dragon roll, which has spicy crab, cucumber, and avocado on the inside and unagi on the outside, topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. Presentation of the sushi roll was very nice. It was satisfying but not worth the $18 price tag. Especially considering it's imitation crab meat (the only roll with real crab meat is the Spider roll, which comes with soft shell crab). Service was pretty good, albeit a bit slow. I would recommend eating here only if you have time to spare. One woman had to get her roll to go because her flight was already boarding. It was late, most of the bars at the airport were closed. Finally, we came upon this place, maybe the last open bar in the airport. But alas, they were out of one of the three ingredients.
