I had not been to this casino in years (since before it changed names) but my friend wanted to go there on our way out of town. The staff was helpful. The casino was clean. There's a parking garage across from the front entrance. They have some new slots and lots of old favorites and some table games, including baccarat. They have a small area with comfy seating and lots of TV's for watching/betting on sports. There's also a small but nice Asian restaurant upstairs. They were pretty empty with less than a dozen other patrons but I'm sure they get busy later in the evening and on weekends. It was a fun place to spend some time. read more

My fiancé and I were trying to go upstairs to the restaurant for lunch, we're both 20 and didnt even get close to the machines. Security immediately came up to us and asked for our IDs and I told her we're not 21 we're just passing through to get to the restaurant. Security barely spoke any english. She insisted to see IDs. I said okay and gave her my ID that shows I am 20 years old. She insisted it was fake and made me walk all the way through the casino to the back to take my ID to the manager. The manager hardcore inspected my ID (why would i give them a fake ID that's ynder the age of 21 LMAO). These people need to seriously work on their security. read more

I was at the Dragon Casino on Saturday 03/21/26 and was on a winning streak happy as can be playing my favorite game (Whales of Cash) when Jen an employee walked over to me and said I was being too loud and that she got complaints and I needed to keep quite. Yes I was happy and excited but not loud to the point where an employee has to come and ask me to be quite. The lady next to me even said that was rude of Jen to come over and say anything especially when you are winning. I will never visit this place again. The Saratoga had 5 guys yelling loud and screaming with joy and not once were they asked to be quite. I will be spending my money elsewhere and will not give this place another dime. Moose the pit boss on the lower level needs to work on his customer service. He is incredibly rude and in my opinion shouldn't be a pit boss. He was being friendly and talking to the table intermittently, after 4 dealer changes of sitting with my boyfriend while he was actively playing blackjack he told me I needed to leave the table I was sitting at with my boyfriend so other people could play in the dead casino. Even the other party at the table felt this was rude of Moose. Will never spend money at the Dragon Tiger if Moose is on duty and would recommend you not either! Yes yes yes!!!!! For someone like me, who is hard and tricky to come out to the casinos, I fell in love with this little Mexican themed machine slot here. I think I spent the most time being charmed by the sounds, bells and whistles of the hot jalapeño game. It was only a penny to play, and I was being too stubborn to get out of my seat. I used to get so hot headed when someone else would take a whip at this little slot!! It's that much fun. When I wasn't around the fave slot, I enjoyed playing other penny games with butterflies on them. It was overall one the least pushy casinos I've been to. I have been to Johnny Z's twice now and will probably be back. Be aware, I am not a regular at the casinos in our fair state, but we make it to Black Hawk or Central City once or twice a year. I read about this place and was attracted to it because of the $3 craps table limit with $100 odds. That is about as good as it gets to a cheap craps player like me :-). This casino is kind of like Cheers, it seems like everyone knows your name. The dealers and other staff are extremely friendly. There is a coffee bar upstairs with Starbucks coffee and a regular bar on the main floor with a good selection of draft beers and other libations. This review is aimed at the Z Grill upstairs more than the Casino and the games. I've been coming here for a couple years now and I've always enjoyed the prime rib dinner they had. Tonight however has been horrible. The prime rib looks more boiled than it does baked. Too bad. Alex to change it out for ribeye steaks ..... nice enough lady said fine but she would have to charge us for it as well as the crappy prime rib. (Casinos make a ton on money so I don't know why they would have to charge us on top for the bad prime rib) I gambled here enough to become a "VIP" had their Black card and all. Don't currently have that anymore. But the point of all this is.... i was very upset about the service at the Z grill and being charged for a returned item. Do not patronize this place. The dealer, I am not sure his name but he is flamboyantly gay (not that there is anything wrong with that) and easy to distinguish, made an error. He gave an elderly woman a hit when she signaled stay. We asked for the floor and he refused. Then, after a second ask he begrudgingly yelled across the room not even explaining what happened properly. The lazy pit boss did not even get up from his seat, gazing at the World Series on tv instead. And said to play on. Horrible service!!! Would NEVER recommend this casino to anyone! As a frequent gambler, I have never been treated with so much disrespect by one of the craps dealers there. After making my bet (high-low), it hit a 2. I was waiting to get paid , but the dealer never placed it and was trying not to pay me out. With the entire table supporting my bet, they finally started to pay me. The stick guy was trying to say I never did place the bet (while me telling him to check the cameras), was whining and complaining due to it being his error. A close friend of mine likes to gamble but can't drive anymore. So I offered to take him to central city and Blackhawk for the day. That's what close friends do because I am not a gambler. Disgusted by the customer service in this place. I gambled for over an hour with no cocktail service. Finally went to the bartender and requested a drink. She very rudely informed me I was standing at the rail and not gambling, refused to serve me a drink. The shift manager backed her up when I approached her about the issue, and threw me out. We went to Johnny Z's last night because I had been there before and they sent me a postcard for $7.00. We had dinner there (I had the prime rib which was very good, and the wife had chicken fried chicken which she liked) and headed down to the craps table which was empty on a Tuesday night. We played cheap $3.00 craps for about half an hour or so while I lost money the whole time. My losses, however, were mitigated by the fact that the dealers were so much fun! The table was empty, so they had only us to entertain. Finally, down to about $30 or so, the dealers suggested that the "other side of the table was the lucky side." We switched sides, played on that side for about another hour, and ended up breaking even. Then, we spent another $200.00 on slots before we left. Oh well, at least the craps was fun. I find Johnny Z's has friendly dealers who want to have fun as much as the players do. Even the pit boss was making the occasional wisecrack. I like it there, and I'll go there again. Let me just say this, I only played the slot machines at this establishment so I can not give a review of tables. I usually play Texas Hold 'em on the tables but this machine here was calling my name. The casino was clean but more importantly the bathrooms were clean. Wow, I cant believe the experience my husband and I had here. We were regulars, but not anymore. First, the cashiers and servers are great. We are not high rollers, but have come here often. This last time, as usual, we played slots and then went to the bar to play poker and get a drink. As anyone knows, in Blackhawk and Central City drinks are free when playing. As we sat there, no one was serving the bar, and someone went to get someone and the Director of Casino Operations came over to serve, not sure he really wanted to though. My husband and I know most of the servers, and never saw him before. He told us he would have to charge us because we were not playing the maximum number of coins on our slot and we were playing nickels. So we were looking for a "new casino" looked at the bill board where it said get a $100 on them. First we get our cards and they worked only after about the 7th try. The standard answer was that it was demagnatized and we had just got the cards. Went to the counter to get help and their answer was "it works just fine." Used to be great, then they hired a new casino manager and he ruined the Blackjack game. First, it was changing splitting from 4x to 3x. Then it was dealing only half the cards in the deck. I used the ATM down the road advertising that they would reimburse me my fees. Waited in line because there was only one person behind the counter. Have played here for a number of years, but will not be going back. The quality of the dealers they've hired for their table games used to be quite high, and I've had a lot of fun playing there in the past. Now it seems like they only employ either the most inexperienced dealers in CO, or those that have no respect for the players and no interest in making gambling at their tables an enjoyable experience. On a recent Friday night, there were players at only 2 of 5 open card tables (blackjack and 3-card poker). After being insulted repeatedly by my dealer, I brought the abuse to the attention the pit supervisor, whose only response was "What do you want me to do? Yell at her?". Having had more than enough attitude, I visited two other establishments that were so busy, I could hardly find a seat at a table. You'd think by now Johnny would GET A CLUE and make some changes, but until he does, there are plenty of other casinos in Central City and Black Hawk that are a better choice. read more

My wife and myself had a day off and decided to go play some blackjack and video poker. We stopped in Johnny Z's to play some blackjack, as I was told the dealer stays on soft 17. The dealers were funny and we were having some luck and are the only two people paying in the entire pit. As we are getting up to leave, the floor points out that they are offering a hot seat drawing for those people playing blackjack or craps at 1pm. Since in is 12:30, we decide to keep on playing to see if we can win the drawing. At 1, we are still the only two people playing in the entire pit and we are feeling pretty good about are chances. We ask the floor if we win as it is one and we are still the only people playing in the pit. The floor responds now by clarifying that a different group runs this hot seat promotion, but they are normally right on time. Well at 1:13, three people come in, from outside the street and straight to the blackjack table. Apparently, a different drawing from a neighboring casino had just ended and they hurried over to Johnny Zs to try to get on this drawing as well. So as we waited for the dealer to change into chips the three new customers money, the person running the promotion shows up to inform us that one of the new customers who just sat down had won the hot seat drawing, even though none of the three customers had even played a single hand of blackjack. I pointed out to the floor that I thought these drawings were for people actually playing blackjack, that they had awarded the prize to someone who had not played a hand, and that they were not eligble to win since they were not playing at 1 when the drawing, according to their promotional banner stated it was to occur. Also, immediately after the drawing, the three players left leaving a completely empty pit. Management did agree to add $25 to our free play account for the "Misunderstanding". I read more

Most horrible customer service in Colorado! I have lived in Central City for several years now, so I am pretty familiar with all of the casinos in this area. I have had my fair share of poor customer service experiences at various properties up here, but my experience with Johnny Z's this evening easily puts them at the top of the DO NOT GO THERE! list. I received a promotional $10 table games match play coupon via email from the casino, so decided to go in and use it. The email CLEARLY stated that it should be redeemed at the table games pit. When I tried to use the coupon the dealer informed me that, no, I would have to go to the player's club to redeem the coupon for another coupon and then come back to the table to use that coupon. Even after pointing out that the coupon emailed to me clearly said to redeem it at the pit, I was once again directed to the player's club. I went to the player's club to find a line of around 10 people, so I went back to the pit to see if a floor supervisor could help me faster. The only 'supervisor' working was sitting box on the craps game and was not paying any attention to the other games or customers. After a couple of unsuccessful efforts to get his attention, I reluctantly headed back to the player's club. When I was finally able to speak to someone in the player's club, they were apologetic about the situation and suggested I fill out a comment card. Instead I asked to speak to the manager on duty. After several minutes I was informed he was currently in the table games pit. I again head back to the pit, only to discover that the MOD was the person sitting box whom I couldn't get help from earlier. I had to end up hollering at him to finally get his attention. When I confronted him about the email he repeated it had to be turned in to the player's club despite the fact he was looking directly at the email that said to redeem it at the pit. He never once apologized for the confusion or irritation, he simply looked annoyed and told me that, "apparently you are just looking for a fight, and I'm not going to give it to you". I was aghast at that and commented that he apparently didn't care about my concern at all, to which he simply stared at me as if to indicate that was exactly correct! Not only does this casino not have their marketing promos worked out and the top level employee treated me with horrendous customer service, but they don't even run their table games pit well! Anyone who knows anything about casino table games knows you should never have a pit on a Friday night with one supervisor who is being given a break by the MOD. Horrible game protection, and it made the MOD unavailable to handle a customer problem when I complained at the player's club. Bottom line - there are MANY other great choices in our town to spend your entertainment dollars. Don't spend them here! And FYI - Johnny Z's just took over Bullwhackers in Black Hawk.
