I got a haircut from Nettie and my hair was uneven. Several times throughout my haircut, she walked away from me for a few minutes. I think she had another client in the processing of dying their hair. She must have forgotten where she left off because the layers on one side of my face were longer than the other side. I didn't notice it at first because she told me to take my glasses off during the haircut and then curled my hair after. I noticed my haircut was uneven the next day when my hair was straight again. I called the salon to see if I could get my hair fixed, and they offered to give me another stylist. I agreed, because I didn't want to go back to Nettie. When I got to the salon, they tried to get me to go back to Nettie for the fix. When I said that I was not comfortable with that, a different stylist, an older man, helped me. He was very nice and checked my hair properly, and said that it was very obvious my hair was uneven. Although the man who cut my hair was very nice, and good at his job, I will not be coming back to this salon. read more

Just to preface, this was my first time getting my haircut in New York City since moving here three months ago. Only giving 3 stars because of my horrible experience here the first time with Disco, 5 stars for Dita though. I was nervous about getting my hair cut somewhere new and I didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for a haircut. I found Dramatics 34th St through the recommendation of a friend of a friend and made a same-day appointment. I walked in and was given Disco. She was a sweet lady, but apparently very new to the salon ("senior stylist" here means entry level - very misleading). All I asked for was a trim for my hair and just touching up the layers in a v-shape, not just cutting straight across. Oh wow, it was the worst, most disastrous haircut I ever received. It looked like she hacked away at my hair with kitchen shears, it was chopped so unevenly, but I couldn't tell until the next morning since she had curled my hair. I really hope that Disco gets reprimanded and talked to for chopping away at my hair. Luckily, I called and spoke with Moody, the receptionist. She was so sweet and set me up with Dita, the manager and most experienced stylist. DITA WAS AMAZING - highly recommend!! She was so sweet and reassuring and fixed my hair right away. Thankfully, Dita understood how to work with my hair and fixed it. It's now beautiful with very light layers. Thank you Dita!! She's such a hard working, talented stylist. I would come back to her again. But I really hope someone talks to Disco and makes her complete another haircut lesson. read more

I walked in for a haircut and they took me in right away. Disco did a great job cutting my hair. Note they don't accept the yelp coupon for walk in customers. Would have given 5 stars if they didn't try to upsell their services so much. I specified I just wanted a haircut but they kept trying to push other services. They tried to get me to color my hair (multiple times), get a hair treatment, and blow dry my hair. The atmosphere at the salon is average. I had two haircuts at this location. The first one with Ocean with whom I did not identify. The second was with Sky and I loved his energy, professionalism and technique (reason why I'm giving a 3 stars review). Came back as expected after three years for a haircut with Matrix. I tried many other hairdressers with outrageous prices hoping that my hair can improve in style the minute I walk out of the salon. I am very confident in saying that no one in the city understands how to cut my thin hair other than Matrix. I finally found my hair stylist soulmate in Capri. I first came to this Dramatics location after a bad experience somewhere else and she's been taking care of my locks most of the time since then. Mostly I wanted a better style and to keep my natural dark brown color. But earlier this year I decided to go pink, and Capri did a wonderful job. I was not happy that the hair salon did not take my coupon-which they claimed on Yelp that you would get 20% off for your first visit. The price is DECISIVE！Before my visit, I called them, asking for the price of a regular haircut. However, I got charged way more than what I expected-I have short hair and I only needed a very basic trim. I told them I was looking for a regular haircut at their starting price but they charged me at a way higher price. When I was trying to tip my stylist, the receptionist dismissively told me they do not take tips on card and there was an ATM across the street so I can just go there and come back. Her tone was condescending. Update: my hair stylist iron curled my hair after the haircut and it looked fine. However, after I washed my hair when I got home, I realized the length of my hair is NOT EVEN--left side hair is longer than right side. This review is not to complain about my stylist Glamour, who was amazing and gave me the exact balayage color I was looking for. No, this is to talk about the horrible customer service from Siren and charges that totally ruined my experience and is making me hesitate about going back. First of all, I had a 20% off salon service for signing up for the newsletter. Nowhere on the email did it say I needed to print it out, but she snottily told me I needed to print it next time and didn't even believe me about the 20% off when I initially told her even though I was showing her the email. The price was way higher then I had expected by almost 100%, based on the prices online, and I was a little frazzled because of it and felt really bad because they don't take tip on card, which I didn't know since it was my first time there. I only got $20 out of the ATM earlier and had planned to pay the rest of the tip on card. When I informed her so because I felt bad, she didn't look at me and dismissively told me there was an ATM across the street and I should just come back. Her tone was condescending, and she seemed annoyed at me for no good reason since I hadn't been rude. On top of that, she didn't even take 20% off and simply took an item off that did not add up to the 20%. At this point, I just wanted to leave so I didn't even try to argue. Later, when I came home, I realized she had charged me once for the balayage and blow dry, which is what I originally booked, and again separately for the blow dry so I got charged twice for the blow dry, according to the receipt. How is it that I paid almost $40 alone to have someone blow dry my hair? That is almost the equivalent to one of their haircuts and blow drys and nearly 1/3 of the balayage. I would of just left with my hair wet if I knew I was going to be charged that much for a blow dry. In hindsight, I should of taken out more money to tip Glamour because I always try to tip appropriately, but I honestly didn't know it was going to cost so much and that they wouldn't take card tip. My whole experience was ruined by the deceiving pricing (should be updated to reflect realistic pricing), 20% off, and horrible customer service. I was so upset that I didn't even feel like going to the ATM and coming back and just gave Glamor the tip and apologized before leaving. I'm willingly to pay for good service but pricing was not transparent whatsoever. All and all, It was my first time but it may be my last. read more

She did basically color correction double processing and cut and style all in one session for me. The salon was clean and not to many people at once, everyone wore masks. I've been coming to this location for the last year and a half getting haircuts every 3 months or so with the wonderful Lace. I had an awful experience at the last salon I frequented so decided to give Lace a chance per my coworkers referral. I am beyond relieved I did! She has been so amazing ever since the first haircut. In January when she last cut my hair, she told me she'd love to balayage my hair. I told her about my horrific experience and told her I was very hesitant to do anything to it ever again. Instead of pressuring me to have her do it she said she'd wait until I was ready. Well I'm so happy I trusted her today to finally color my hair after 2+ years of it never being touched. Yes, I agree with other reviewer. Ruby is a find! Had a series of mishaps with my hair. I've had my hair cut by three different people since my stylist moved out of state. Ruby's the one who is a keeper! She knows angles and is well trained and is just a pleasure to be around. I am very particular about my hair and we spoke about every last detail, of which layers will fall where or what will happen if we cut the length a little. It was quite the hour session. I responded to an ad on salonapprentice.com looking for hair models so stylist can test out of the cutting class. The test was today, 12/18/17 and it was the cut of your choice, after a consultation with the stylist and a blow-out for free, in exchange for letting someone inexperience cut your hair. I was told by Spirit the instructor, to be at the salon at 10:15AM. I have been a hair model many times before and know it is very important that you are on time so I arrived 15 minutes early. The salon was closed when I arrived at 10:00AM but after 10 minutes an older women arrived and unlocked the door. Before I could tell her I was a hair model, she just started yelling "another 30 minutes". I never got a word out, as she would cut me off , yelling "30 minutes" repeatedly. She then went inside locking the door and LEAVING ME OUTSIDE IN THE COLD!!! What a bizarre way to start this experience. Fortunately after 20 minutes someone else arrived and let in the small group of people that had gathered as I waited "another 30 minutes". i It took another 10-15 minutes or so before the class was ready to begin. At this point there was about 8-10 models but there was only one stylist, London and Spirit the instructor. Luckily since I was there first, I got to go right away. The stylist London was a lovely young women, and wanted to do a good job but she was also clearly inexperienced, seemed to be rushing and nervous, traits that are NOT reassuring when that person has scissors near your long hair. The part was not done straight, she had no tension when pulling the hair to cut the layers, and she did not hold her finders correctly. The instructor kept interrupting the cut to redo it herself. She even showed London a video on how to do hold her fingers while London was cutting my hair. What compounded the issue was I could not understand London when she spoke because of her heavy accent and limited English. The instructor Spirit and London would discuss my cut in Russian while I sat there because of London's English issues. As a customer this is only an issue because it was not translated to me in English so I would know what is being decided and can comment if I disagree. After the cut portion of the experience was done, she kept asking me if I liked it but I could not tell if it was good or not. My hair was half wet and with its bushy, frizzy texture I had no idea what the shape was. After a few minutes, I finally realized she was not going to dry my hair. She told me it was because they booked too many models. I was a surprised, as stylist normally blowout the hair straight to check for errors. There is always a few more cuts to be done when the hair is dry. London and Spirit wanted me to sit under a dryer "helmet" with no curlers or product. My hair just would have gotten even bushier and frizzier, a fact they both should have known. So I asked Spirit if I could use a hair dryer and dry it myself but I was told emphatically told "No, it is not allowed". I was surprised and a bit stunned that I would be leaving the salon with half dry bushy frizzy hair, and with no hat to hide it under! For me I risk a cut with an inexperienced stylist because of the payoff of a great blowout, which I never received. They knew how many models there were when I sat in the chair and could have told me before starting that there would be no blowout. I would have refused the cut as I had appointments that day and did not have time to go home to dry my hair. Instead I had to go down the block and pay for a blowout at the BARBER! Once he got over the shock of me asking to use his hairdryer, he quickly proved very capable of a great blowout. By the way, there were quite few correction cuts that needed to be done to clean up the cut. He actually brought them to my attention, showing them to me in a mirror so I could see the issues. The barber was nice enough to do the cut corrections for free. I assume if I was a paying customer, my experience would be different but then maybe not. The rude women who locked me out without knowing if I was a paying client or a model, would still be there. Being rudely discussed in a foreign language without translation, would happen. And probably if they were overbooked, I would still be rushed out, but with a half-ass blowout. The odds of me becoming a paying customer are zero. The way you treat a client, paying or not, should be the same. And if a service is promised, and I fulfilled my portion of the agreement, it should be given. read more

So yesterday, I made a last minute appointment because I needed a cut baaaaad. My hair was ROUGH, like totally dead, weighed down and frizzy as shit. But they were super sweet and made the appointment and were very professional over the phone. I go in for the appointment and meet Sugar who is a gorgeous sweetheart. I barely gave her any useful information but she gave me exactly what I was looking for. I'm telling you she's magic. She told me she'd give me that Victoria secret hair and honeyyyyy she delivered! I feel so fabulous and shiny and new. Everyone that works here is so professional. UPDATED REVIEW: I want to thank Safari and espeically Siren at the 34th St. location for going above and beyond in order to remedy my negative experience. I'm so grateful to Siren, who is just so pleasant and professional, for recommending that I come back to the salon to see Echo. Echo was absolutely amazing and honestly I will come back to the salon just for her (and Siren). Echo understood exactly what I wanted and how to make it work for my hair type. If you have thick hair, go see Echo. She is great. The staff was very friendly and I waited no more than 10 minutes as a walk-in appointment. It went downhill from there. My stylist would not cut my hair the way I had asked, and when I would persist, she would say, "okay, but I'm just going to do a little bit". Needless to say, I left with a haircut that is nothing like what I wanted (I showed her several pictures as examples). I'm so embarrassed by how my hair looks. On top of it all, I was also informed that the website was incorrect (it says the shampoo and cut service included a blow dry, but apparently it doesn't) and that my haircut would be $53 plus tax, almost double what the website listed ($27.95+). My hair is a bit past my shoulders so I figured it might be a bit more but I was shocked by the final amount charged. They gave me a free bottle of conditioner for the confusion, but I can't pay my bills with conditioner. If the stylist had cut my hair how I asked, maybe I wouldn't have been so upset about the price difference, but now I will have to spend even more money to get my hair fixed. I came to the 34th street location to follow my hair stylist, Ariel, who would cut and color my hair at the 5th Ave spot for the last 6+ years. Ariel has been my "go to" color expert and always does a nice job with finding the perfect color. She works with what I'm comfortable with shade wise and does a great job with the cut. I've had stylists over the years and she's hands down the best. Plus she's kind and looks out for you. If you're looking for a high-quality, decently priced hair cut, go here and ask for Diaz. He is amazing. I first met him three years ago after getting a long bob at another salon that turned out pretty awful looking. I read other Yelp reviews praising Diaz, and hoping he could somehow fix my catastrophic hair cut, I booked an appointment with him. I asked for the melted blonde (dark at roots but gets blonde slowly through the ends and gets totally blonde at the very tips, I showed her some photos to be very clear about what I want) but this is what I got; brown hair. I am extremely sad. When I asked why I did not get the hair I want, her answer was "your hair would get damaged if I dye your hair this color", but she said it after procedure. She did not say that I cannot get the hair color I want before the procedure. She was all positive and saying " oh yes I definitely can do this color" when I consulted her. I even asked her if my hair can survive this, she said "your hair is good, no need to worry about it". I was so happy until I saw what my hair looks like. There is no demarcation line, the color is well blended but this is not the color I want... Worst spent $260. Now I am looking for a good hair stylist to correct this problem, if possible.... Update: I added photos of my 1 day old hair. It is a DISASTER !! MY HAIR IS FALLING OFF !!!!!!! It is all damaged !!! I cannot even comb my hair because hundreds of hair falls off of my head when I do !!!! Please check the photo of my so called 'hair'. I consulted 2 hair stylist today and none of them wanted to touch my hair. All they said was "please do not even use hair straightener or curler, you may loose much more hair. Just wash it gently, condition and mask it. Only time and complete care can heal that." I am completely stuck with this hair and I am planning to shave it, seriously... You know who did this: Redd.
