I never do this, but my experience was so horrible I had to let ppl know. I recently moved back to NYC and needed a touchup on color. When I lived here before, I went to Dramatics on 64th & 2nd for years and loved it, so I thought I would try it out again...only this time, a different location. I was scheduled w/ Picasso....terrible nickname for someone who knows nothing about color. During our brief consultation I told him I wanted to go darker (I have blonde/honey colored highlights) but I guess he wasn't listening b/c what I got was WHITE highlights, nothing dark about it! He thought this was better b/c it's summer, but the problem is that it's NOT what I asked for. Not only did he not do what I asked, he took forever! He took more than an hr. to put my partial foils in, which is WAY too long. I had to be somewhere, so I couldn't even get the hair cut I was scheudled for and he actually didn't even comb my hair after the shampoo before he blew it dry. I could go on and on, but bottom line-don't go to Picasso for color!!!!! read more

A few weeks ago I had my hair done at dramatics on the ues by Sasha. She did such a great job. I did the new client special where I reviewed a cut and half head of highlights for $99. It was unreal. Probably one of the best deals on the ues. Sasha took the time to really figure out what I wanted. The color was perfect and she put so much care into making sure my highlights were fine and natural looking. None of that chunky stuff. She was a perfectionist. The cut (which I'm always nervous about) was great. The angles and layers contoured my face wonderfully and even weeks after my hair falls effortlessly into place. She recommended a purple shampoo to use with my normal shampoo a few times a week and my color still looks so fresh. I will definitely be back next time I need a cut or color and highly recommend. They whole staff is super friendly and lastly which I forgot to mention, the blowout was awesome! read more

Mimi does a great cut on curly hair. $39.99 for wash, cut, & blow dry for medium hair, which is a great deal considering the UES and its overprices hair salons. I've never gotten a style change there, just a basic cut with long layers/angles. However, my hair is really curly and not many stylists cut it well. The only annoying thing is it took 3 times for me to find out that a blow dry was included in the price. All three times I had declined, thinking it was extra. When I called to make the appointment, they also ask if I want to include a blow dry with the cut so I assumed it would be more. Finally after the third time the cashier asked me why I didn't want the blow dry (after I had already gotten the cut and paid). Oh well! read more

Paris is awesome. I've been dying my hair with bottle die for about 1.5 years to save $, but it just came time to treat myself to something fresh. I saw Paris on the Dramatics website and read some reviews on her as well. I called Saturday at 10am, and they got me an appt with her at 2pm, same day. The outcome is exactly what I wanted - though I couldn't articulate it myself: dramatic red with dimension. At first, she suggested ombre color, and showed me several examples of it in tabloids, but I opted not so she came up with another suggestion. She told me what everything would cost before she started, which was great. Though I'm in LOVE with my color, she even said that it didn't take as much as she'd liked it to (probably due to me using the wrong kind of dye on my hair at home), so to just call her if it faded to quickly after a few weeks. It's rare to walk in and find someone so efficient and proficient, and pleasant on top of that! I'm thrilled and will certainly return to Paris for my cut and color. read more

Am absolutely thrilled with my haircut by Angel. I typically have short hair and I went to get a trim and some colour damage taken off elsewhere last week (my usual place being in DC and not having the time to get there) and was not at all pleased. I took my time looking at Yelp reviews, mostly the pictures posted to find a place that also featured pixie cuts and short hairstyles for women. This was the one that caught my eye. Came here to get my highlights fixed after someone else royally messed them up, and Sasha did a great job. She listened to what I said, repeated it back and showed me color samples so I really felt like we were on the same page, and then took the corrective process step by step. We did half lowlights first, dried a section to look at it, then put in a toner. Turned out way more natural looking than before :) Only reason I didn't do 5 stars is because there was a surprise $40 blowout charge, which I didn't ask for and would have have appreciated being able to opt out of. read more

After what started out as a hectic start to the appointment I have to say Serge and Spirit were beyond accommodating and polite after squeezing me in after a double booking error on Serge's last day (just my luck, he's off an his next adventure as soon as I find him). She saw me immediately at the time we scheduled, gave me an in depth consultation and addressed all of my concerns. She colored my hair exactly the way I wanted and kept my curls in tact. Went there last month for my color touch up. Since I have a full head of hair my salon appointments often take a whole morning or afternoon. I was in the area that morning and came as a walk in. June met me and guided me through the process of doing a balayage on my already color treated hair. It was a very positive experience. She listened to what I wanted and then suggested slight changes (Like since I like to wear my hair both curly (natural) and straight to not cut as much off.) She had other suggestions for products I could use, I did not feel pressure to buy or have any additional treatments. She even sent me home with free samples. I walked in based on the reviews online. Safe to say I am a super anxious haircut and most stylists dread a cut like me, but Vogue (Lydia) didn't blink an eye. She took me and my anxiety on and didn't miss a step. She didn't baby me, but stayed attentive to my concern. I left having a wash cut and blow dry and feel like a million dollars... The prices are good. Walk-ins are good. Trims are good. I have been there several times for trims on long hair and they have all been okay. Recently I went for an actual haircut with layers. To be honest, in my 63 years, I have never had such a bad haircut. I even brought a photo of what I wanted. It looked nothing at all like it...wasn't even close. Back in July, I decided that since I was starting a new chapter in my life, I was going to cut my hair short. I walked into the Dramatics salon and got Serge as my stylist. He did an absolutely amazing job! Six months later I came back to Dramatics and asked for Serge to cut my hair again -- once again I was incredibly happy with my haircut. Today, was the third time Serge cut my hair and I couldn't be happier. In the past, when I have gotten my hair cut at a salon, I usually walk out feeling meh. Each and every time I get my hair cut by Serge, I walk out feeling fabulous. What's even more important, is that somehow his haircuts requires minimal maintenance-- no need to blow dry or put in product for it to look amazing. I got a halfshave with design from Natasha. This was my first time ever getting a halfshave. I am happy with the results :) Natasha constantly asked me whether I liked how everything looked and if I wanted to have anything differently, which is reassuring when you decide to have a new haircut for the first time. She was gentle with my hair and added to the design I brought to her (after asking me of course) which improved the cut. Her suggestions and willingness to do the extra things I asked for made the whole experience a pleasant one. I must add that after looking at the cut more closely at home, I would have liked more delineation on the design, but I may just go back and ask for it when my hair grows . I'm really disappointed with my experience here. I brought reference photos in and everything, and the stylist (I don't want to say who it was here because I feel bad being as upset about this cut as I am) completely ignored what I showed them. My hair was about chin length and I wanted a medium-short cut, as was shown in my reference images... I have an undercut now, which is completely not what I asked for. They didn't even really do the top like I wanted it, but the sides are the real issue. Admittedly, I got pretty confused when they started using the clippers for anything aside from the back of my neck... I don't know if they messed up and just didn't communicate that with me, and decided to "rectify" it by giving me a decent haircut that was completely not what I wanted, but I am really, really unhappy with how it turned out. After some researching and asking around, I needed a place that was descent in price and had great reviews. Who wants to go to a hair salon with 2 or 3 stars? Nobody!!!!! I had Soho as my hairstylist and wanted to do the the whole short on one side and long in the other. Saw this girl on TV with the hairstyle and was obsessed with it. I showed the photo to Soho and after she figured out my hair texture and my neckline, she was super honest and told me that we can do something similar, but not the same because let's be honest again, the girl on TV had hair of a luscious stallion and my hair was like of fine silk. My first time here, I called "Dramatics" after work this past Friday and the receptionist was very vibrant which I absolutely loved because I am huge fan of outstanding hospitality. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Kudos to not sounding like you hate your job which usually deters me from even walking into a business. She said walk-ins are accepted but I decided to book an appointment, the same day (45 minutes after I called), to assure myself a spot to get my hair trimmed...YAY! My once long layers have grown into unflattering, weighed down, dead end hanging strands and I definitely needed to style this mess asap. My hair stylist, Scarlett, introduced herself immediately in a friendly manner. She then took the time to hear out exactly how I wanted my layers to be cut and shared her thoughts and soon after.... My hair was washed (the girl who washed my hair was friendly and we had a couple of good laughs), cut, blown out and then my hair was happy again. I'm impressed with Scarlett's styling skills and to top it off she was gentle with my hair, no blow dryer hair tugging here..ugh! My layers were cascading just as i wanted and I absolutely loved it. Two days later, I washed it myself and used the flat iron and I'm pleased to say it doesn't have that weird I just got a hair cut look (some of you know what I'm talking about). My stylist was friendly and professional throughout the whole process and did an absolutely amazing job. Nice young lady who knows how to take care of her clients. I was a client of their for a while & saw the same stylist I think her name was Caramel before going to the airport I popped in for a color & blowdry. I clearly asked her for an ashy brown and she turned my hair orange! I was extremely upset and bought it to her attention but she didn't say much & had a confused look on her face. Katt is truly amazing at what she does. I have never met a hair stylist who is so effortlessly good at doing hair. I came in because I had gotten a blondish ombré a couple years back and then dyed it expresso brown when I got tired of the blonde ends. I had terrible split ends and a reddish/orangish pigment. I explained to Katt that I did not feel it was necessary to dye my hair from root to end and that I wanted to keep length(since I am growing my hair out). That's all I had to say. She matched my natural color perfectly, it was incredible. She cut the split ends, gave me more of a V cut which complimented my face shape and gave me killer beach waves. My bf could not keep his hands off me. Not to mention how incredibly sweet and down to earth she is. I have gone to Dramatics in the past because the price was reasonable and they always did a fine job with my haircuts. However, I made an appointment today for a cut. It is advertised that a shampoo & cut is approximately $30 and a shampoo, cut, and style is $50. I decided to only get a shampoo and cut in order to save money and assumed I'd be charged $30. However, when I went to pay, I was charged $50. When I asked why it was $50 when the advertised price is $30 for the job they did, it was explained that if you make an appointment, they schedule it as all 3. Thus, even though I did not get it styled nor did I request it be styled when I made the appointment, I would be charged as if I did. I then asked if I had walked in if I would have been charged $50 for the exact same service I received. She explained that it would be then $30. Therefore, there is essentially a $20 surcharge for booking ahead that is not advertised or explained until you are charged after the service. What a sneaky low way to make customers pay more for less services. I will not be returning to this salon. $50 is way too much for a simple cut from an average salon and the dishonest ways of charging customers is shameful. read more

So I decided to try another Dramatics Saloon as I cannot afford to spent more than $200 on my hair.Don't overcook my steak or I'll be forced to kill you. I went to NYC Dramatics on 3rd Avenue and 84th street and Sting (Manager) did my hair, and the highlights turned out to be great! I told him I was here for the first time,.. what I wanted and he kinda nailed it! He just did a little cut, nothing special like I usually want it.. and he just dried my hair coz I told him to, but i acutally just wanted to save money.. that's why I said just a neccessary cut and blowdry not fancy.. didn't take him much time... Still in the end I paid $220 for color and "full service" although in my opinion full service is a fancy haircut and blowdry... Anyway... turned out to be more expensive than I thought BUT the color was really good and natural!
