The mixed reviews from a few years back are deceiving. This diner is a dream come true for breakfast lovers! Delicious meals sans the heart burn you'd get from the typical greasy spoon. The menu consists of an extensive omelet selection with all the trimmings. My omelet was cooked perfectly, light and fluffy with plenty of spinach, cheese, and mushrooms inside. The sweet potato pancake was to die for, the coffee worked, and the home fries were great. Our waiter, Brett, made us feel very welcomed upon our first visit. First off let me say my kids enjoyed their meals. My son had the Texas toast french toast and my daughter had a hamburger and fries. I on the other hand did not enjoy my meal at all. I ordered a sausage, cheese and tomato omelette with home fries, corned beef hash and wheat toast. The eggs where very very thin. reminded me of the eggs I had in basic training for the Army. The home fries were not my favorite. Very soft and buttery. I prefer a bit of a crunch to them. Maybe keep them on the grill a bit longer and brown them next time. Bridget has been our waitress each time we have been to the Dream Diner. We always get quick and wonderful service. Each table gets the VIP treatment. You get treated like you're family. The oldies are always playing, and I sing along every time. Today my husband had the pastrami Benedict and I had the Musi omelette with cheese, onions, and kielbasa. I had a little sweet tooth so ordered a single banana pancake that we both shared. It was delicious with a lot if banana slices in it. I love that! So I have been driving by this place for years and I finally decided to stop in on a beautiful Sunday morning there was a huge line and a small wait. They had the typical 50s music playing in the background and the place was completely packed. First off if you ask for ice water the water taste like straight chlorine from the pool and if you don't believe me ask for a cup of water and taste it yourself because it tasted like just Chorine with water and chlorine water. For breakfast I got the dream with the eggs bacon and French toast I got the extra strawberries and whip cream which was a dollar extra which to me the strawberries were just frozen strawberries from Market Basket that of been just de thawed for the last three days. The eggs were OK and home fries were the ones that were boiled and then baked so if you don't like those you want my come however I loved him. Was very loud inside and the waitresses kept yelling party of three party of two across the whole diner which was quite annoying when you're trying to eat at least walk over and quietly say next party please. Food filled it up but it was nothing out of the ordinary that stood out I'd give it a three because they don't even have filtered water which is something very basic you're going to get a two star. The bacon was decent but you could tell the ingredients for very cheap cheap ingredients here if you're looking for breakfast that is top notch I highly recommend Rosie's diner in North Chelmsford. I like breakfast. I like the breakfast here at the Dream Diner. They use real butter in their home fries. Their omelets are totally stuffed (see my posted picture). The coffee is hot and fresh. The only thing that doesn't make this 4 stars is that unless you come in close to when they open, you're not going to get great service unless you are a crony/regular. I understand about taking care of your regulars... I am one elsewhere and enjoy the perks, but you have to take care of the rest of us folks that stop in once in a while too! This places doesn't look great when you drive by it. Which I have been doing for about two years now. Finally, one morning, the wife and I decided to try this establishment out. Curb side appeal is kinda low. Place Looks small and out of date. However, that is far from what you get inside. It's very "vibey". Looks like a diner straight out of the "Fallout" games. ( For all my gamers out there. You'll know what I mean). This is the kind of establishment that you can clearly tell is family owned and has been family owned for a long time. While there, we noticed that the two waitresses were related( mother and daughter). The grand-children were also there. This is the kind of places where you become a regular quickly. I could see there was some regulars in attendance that day. However, warm and welcoming to everyone. It's nice to see that establishments like this can still thrive in today's world. As far as the food and drinks. Let me start by saying.. they serve Alcohol!!! I mean.. yes!! I got the Bloody Mary. Not great, but not horrible either. It was alcohol. We both got eggs Florentine. As odd as it may sound this place took my Eggs Benedict virginity! It was really yummy! I went with the Irish Benedict (corn beef hash) it was so good, I would eat it every day if I could! The other person in my party went with the Sausage Benedict. The side of home fries made for the perfect combination!. Ice Coffee was spot on...not to strong not too weak! The service as fast and friendly (as always). Food comes out fast and fresh although it is not that busy on the weekdays... The diner looks amazing after the renovation!! All the tables were being sat every other in order to provide social distancing precautions and the place was stocked with sanitation stations. I was also very happy with the hand sanitizer bottle at each table. Outdoor dinning is also available but with the heat today...we decided to sit inside. All in all Dream Diner is a staple in the New England area. I have mixed feelings about the Dream Diner as it's far from a Dream! The owner is rude & unprofessional!! This afternoon was my second visit here, I was visiting my my sister & her family as they live in town and frequent it, & I have to say I was less an impressed & it's likely my last visit. My experience went down hill after our meal and after we paid our bill. The diners hours as Stated on the door are until 2PM. We were sitting finishing our beverages and just talking, as was another table. Our waiter brought the check and told us no rush, I take that to mean no rush. We settled the bill & were still talking. All of a sudden the lights start flashing, I thought someone leaned against a switch. Then a voice says "Last Call, you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!" My face must have made a look of horror, because the same person then comes to my table & says "I promised to take my kids horse back riding this afternoon, they've been off for 3 days and I couldn't do anything with them because I've had to be here." Come to find out this person was the OWNER!! How do you tell your customers they have to leave 15 minutes before closing. Normally you can walk in at this hours and still be seated. If this was your priority today then you shouldn't have come in! They could have left the closing in the capable hands of their staff, & if you don't trust your staff then you have a different problem. Or at the very least they should have posted a sign on the door stating they were closing early; perhaps then we would have chosen a different location where we wouldn't be rushed out the door. The manner in which she handled this early closing left me feeling angry at spending my hard earned money in an establishment that doesn't value its customers first. You never know who you are talking too, but you should always speak to them the way you'd want to be spoken to!! There were small issues like they didn't bring placemats for two of the people in my party until after the food was served, they didn't bring silverware Until after the food was served & then when it was brought it wasn't wrapped but instead in the servers hands and then just put down on the table. Then the food was just ok. The up point is The weight staff is very pleasant. I think there are other restaurants in the area where you will feel that you are an asset to the owner, instead of a bother!! read more

Great breakfast however I'm super perturbed at the fact that it's cash only for a tip. I was forced to go to their ATM, pay the fee to take out money for the tip. Of course, the ATM only dispenses 20's. I asked the waitress for change and wouldn't you know she didn't have any ones. This soured my experience and I won't be back. I assume a lot the waitstaff get no tips at all because of this "rule". Owners need to change this. Also- although masks are mandatory- there was no hand sanitizer to be seen. Had breakfast for lunch here today. First time here. Have to say the service was great. Bridget, our waitress was great and certainly made us feel really welcome. We both had omelettes which were quite large, neither of us could finish them, and really delicious. We were given a sample of the pastrami to try, if you like pastrami, you should get it here. It was nice and lean, and very tasty. All in all a really pleasant experience. And they serve alcohol as well if youd like a drink with your lunch or dinner. My girlfriend and I were very disappointed with our breakfast this morning. Everything on the menu seemed to be 5 dollars higher than most places. It would of been okay if the food been good , but it wasn't even okay. Bacon was dripping with grease. Eggs were flavorless, hash browns lacked even a hint of seasoning. To make it worse we pushed two very full plates to the edge of the table and the server didn't have the courtesy to ask why didn't enjoy our food. While thinking about all the good experiences a few other bad ones came to mind. Dream Diner was one that stuck out. My dad has early stages of dementia and one of the waitresses at dream diner had preyed on him to saw him as a sucker to buy into her pyramid scheme business. It was actually two separate occasions. I had went with him and she had mentioned it several times while we were eating, after showing her several times that we weren't interested she had left us alone. My dad had gone back the following weekend and she had brought it up again to him sucking him into spending over $3,000 to buy into this pyramid business. It took me several hours on the phone explaining to this company that my dad has dementia and had no idea what he was signing up for and had no use for this business. I finally got our money back but it was a terrible experience. I believe this was roughly 2 years ago, sorry for the late review but I hadn't thought to do this. I thought it would be good to make sure other people were aware that things like this went there. I find them to be overpriced and the quality of food to be lacking. They are a staple in town and I think provide a sense of nostalgia to many so that is why it continues to be so popular. There are better breakfast places in neighboring towns if you want a good sized breakfast that won't cost you an arm and a leg. read more

Will never return. Ever. Which is sad, because I was a new regular. Although, if I'm ever training as a boxer, this'll be my first stop! First of all, After being sat for breakfast on a very busy day (and being told they were out of OJ unless we wanted mimosas, and out of large cinnamon rolls for French toast, but would happily give us two orders of small cinnamon roll French toast to make up for it), one of the waitresses passed by our table with a massive tray and slammed my 12 year old daughter in the side of the head with it. The woman shot a 'sorry' over her shoulder, then was gone. No, 'oh my god, are you ok?' Nothing. Understandable, given this woman clearly thought my daughter was training as a ninja and should've not only seen the right cross coming, but should've dodged and parried with a left handed back fist. I'm of the opinion that if my daughter knew the waitresses of the dream diner were there to prepare her for the cruel world of dog eat dog bare knuckle boxing, she'd've knocked that lady on her backside without breaking a sweat. Sadly, the trainers at dream diner don't fight fair. Five minutes later, the same woman came at us with the same tray, and as she careened toward my daughter's head for the second time, I leaned over and pulled my wee one out of the way. Had I not, she'd have been double slammed. Sadly, my baby's ninja skills clearly need work. Still, no apology. Because Mike Tyson doesn't apologize. Bill comes and not only have they nickel and dimed us for the two mini French toasts (their offer, but we were expected to pay the 2 dollar difference), but my daughter's pancakes are on the bill as well. Having worked in the service industry, I was surprised to see it, given I thought the woman that hit my daughter was the owner. (Because what server would be that blasé about nailing a kid?) I mean, I realize they were giving her street fighting lessons, free of charge, but still. That wasn't what we ordered. Asked our server to fix it and all hell breaks loose. The owner comes over and proceeds to try to tell us why we're being charged more ('well two minis are more food than one large.' The fact I had to say 'that's irrelevant' astounded me.) Then when I mentioned that I didn't think my daughter's pancakes should be on the bill after she was cold cocked by a tray, the tray wielding waitress shows up and proceeds to say to the owner in her defense, I kid you not, 'it was just a tap. It was really just a tap.' Followed by, 'I said I was sorry like five times, give me a break.' This lady was cold blooded. Rocky would rue the day he crossed her. Hulk tray smash!!! Again, I had to say irrelevant (even though it was both a lie, AND RIDICULOUS! I don't care if it was a feather light graze, you smacked a customer in the head. Are you kidding me? Like it was my daughter's fault for daring to sit in her seat without her spidey senses on full alert for frontal lobe assault from a serving platter of eggs Benedict. Anyway, the owner's response to my comment that her breakfast should be comped was, 'but she ate the pancakes.' At this point, ladies and gentlemen, I couldn't summon the strength to say 'irrelevant' again. I was beaten. The owner then ran off to fix the price difference of their overcharging us, and then returned with the magnanimous words, 'I took your syrup off the bill.' $1.50 for the real maple syrup. Comped. My god, the charity!!! For a diner that just had a massive expansion, the nickel and diming behavior was a surprise. Though after that free surprise sparring match, I don't know why. Needless to say, if you like your mediocre eggs Benedict with a side of bruised forehead, the Dream Diner is the place for you. But don't expect an apology thereafter. That costs extra. read more

I wanted to give Dream Diner 2 stars, but decided to bump it up to 3 because the staff are super friendly and pleasant. They go out of their way to be friendly and accommodating and are working super hard. The ambiance inside is ok. I usually love 1950's inspired diners, but in my opinion it's a bit stark and could benefit from some additional vintage photos or memorabilia. Unfortunately I don't think that high quality/fresh ingredients are their priority. If you order a dish with spinach, expect it to be from a can with zero seasoning. I had not been to the Dream Diner since they expanded. One of the reasons I always avoided this place was the long lines. The food here is good, but not so good that it warrants waiting an hour to get in. For Father's Day my wife thought we should go, because maybe the recent expansion would get us in quicker. It was still a 30 minute wait, for a party of 6, which was not terrible. Inside, the obnoxious kitsch that had previously littered the place was mostly gone. Does anyone really want to look at James Dean and Marilyn playing pool? What replaces it is a streamlined, subtle diner deco that is actually pleasant. What was not pleasant was the incredible amount of noise inside. The new addition seems specifically designed to bounce as much noise as it can back at you. This is not helped by the staff who feel the need to yell at the top of their lungs every time they get a first timer, or parade a hapless victim around the diner for his birthday lap. It is almost as if they exchanged the visual noise for actual noise. Our server was a woman who proudly stated that she was the owner's mother. She tries to give off a friendly grandma vibe, but in reality she is loud and has no idea about personal space. She continued to put her hand on my shoulder, at one time actually leaning on it with her elbow. When it came time to order she pushed up against me, and stepped on my feet beneath the table. When my son's food arrived, she got so close to him that her fanny pack touched his plate of bacon and started to pull it off the table. I noticed that they have the glass-bottle Coke and asked for one, she said, "oh you want the poison?" uuuh yeah, ok. When my Breakfast Burrito came out without salsa, I asked for it and she brought out a Costco-sized bottle of Chi-chi's salsa and poured an enormous amount on my plate. It made the 84 degree dining room that much more uncomfortable. That's not all that is off about this place. According to the menu they charge you $3 to split a plate. They now take credit cards, but you can't put the tip on a card. They ran out of glasses so they refilled the kid's chocolate milk by pouring syrup right into each glass on the table, then pouring the milk out of a gallon container. A drink was forgotten, so we asked for it to go. On the way out the server found the drink and caught up to us, saying Merry Christmas, and stepping on my toe once again. The food is actually very good at the Dream Diner. But it's not that much better than any of the dozens of mom and pop diners in the area that would provide for a much better dining experience. read more
